《Daredevil: Born Again》Chapter 12: Job for a Job

Matt woke up with blood splattered all over his face. He tasted it, it was his blood. He sat down, trying to recover what happened until two people started running towards him. One male and one female. She crouched and started asking Matt if he was ok while he stood there.
"My name is Jean Grey," She said and pointed at Scott, "He's Scott Summers."
"Wait..." Matt coughed, "Jean Grey and Cyclops of the X-Men?"
"Yes, we are. We were patrolling New York until we heard gunshots and stabbing. Are you the overrated lawyer?"
Matt stopped and looked at her for a second. No one has called him overrated until now. After a while, they found out that they were sending each other's mind.
"You might want to stop reading each other's minds before it gets creepy." Scott said.
"Yeah sure." Jean stood up and looked at Scott, "Should we bring him back to the Professor?"
"That's not necessary." Matt groaned, "I can handle myself."
"He can't." Jean sighed, "If we didn't pull you out, you would be bleeding to death. I think you need to see Charles Xavier."
"Ms. Grey, seeing Xavier will not impact me. I'm not a mutant like you. I just lost my sight which doesn't make me special."
"So you're calling us special now?" Scott interrupted.
"Do you prefer the word special or mutants? I can't tell." Matt sarcastically said.
"Like I told you Jean, we should have left him in the water." Scott whispered, "He's stubborn as hell."
"Well, you already pulled me out of the water so it's your problem."
"We didn't pull you out of the water." Jean corrected as a man appeared around the corner, "He did."
"I've been waiting to meet the Man without Fear." The man said, "Erik Lehnsherr."

"Magneto. Seen you on the news before. You seem like a good guy."
"Mistreated as a villain." Erik chuckled. He looked at Jean and Scott, "You can return to Charles now. I can handle the rest."
"He can be an asshole, Erik. Don't let him fool you." Scott reminded.
Scott and Jean disappeared into the dark until a large ship hovered above them and flew away. Erik and Matt then walked on the bridge that connects New York and Hell's Kitchen.
"Where did you place my suit? And how did you get me these clothes?" Matt asked.
"You're suit was destroyed. The clothes were extra ones for Cyclops that are in the ship." Erik smiled.
"How did you get me out of the water. I remember drowning in rubble."
"The knife that was stuck in your chest was metal."
"So you can control metal. Does it bore you that much?"
"It doesn't. If I wanted to, I can lift this entire bridge. I can do many things, Murdock." Erik smirked.
"You know that the blind lawyer of Hell's Kitchen is the Man Without Fear. What a surprise."
"Jean told me while I was watching the news. I was very fascinated with it."
"You want something, don't you?"
"There is this A.I.M. facility not too far from here that wants to capture mutants. I was hoping you could lend me a hand."
"I need the practice anyway."
After several minutes of knocking the door, Foggy knew that something was wrong. Grabbing the key behind the fire extinguisher, Foggy unlocked it and slowly opened it. There was no trace of Daredevil except a lot of drinks on the floor. He initially thought that Matt had a bad night but heard a moan in his bedroom.
He grabbed a pistol inside his bag and slowly aimed it around the corner. The bathroom lights were open and after a few seconds, it closed. The door opened to reveal a sleepy Jessica.

"What the fuck- Jessica Jones?!" Foggy asked in confusion.
"Who the hell? Nelson? What the fuck are you doing up so early?" Jessica said.
"Early? It's about to become evening. Are you okay? Did your powers wear off because you were drunk?"
"Probably because I'm sleepy. Whatever you were going to do with Matt, you can hold it for tomorrow."
"I just have files. We don't have a affair." Foggy scoffed and placed the files neatly on his coffee table, "Unless you have a affair with Matt."
"Fuck off you asshole!" Jessica shouted as she heard Foggy close the door.
Two A.I.M. officers were having their break near the entrance of the facility. They had a nice day, opening the barricade to allow the workers so that they can enter, no fighting and accidents until now. Two men, one in a suit with a scarf on and the other with a metal suit, cape and a unusual shaped helmet.
"Sir, May I have your I.D's scanned?" The officer asked, opening his holster.
"Those won't be needed." Erik said, making the guns shoot the men on the knees. He turned the guns around so it shot all of the communication devices, "No calls will be made."
"That's easy." Matt scoffed as they entered the facility, "What are we looking for exactly?"
"Twelve mutants are here. We must find the control room to deactivate the locks." Erik explained as Matt looked at him, "The cells are made of concrete and it deactivates their powers."
"Sounds fun."
As they turned the corridor, a lot of men were approaching them in the distance. Erik knew that Matt couldn't handle that many so he tipped over the container of acid so it created a blockade. They continued their search for the control room.
"I got it." Matt lowered Erik's hand as two men were running at them.
Matt kicked the first man's leg so he could deal with the farthest one. He did moves to dodge as many bullets as possible until he was in range to kick the gun out of his hands. He followed it with a punch to a jaw and a knockout kick to the second person. Several men crouched on front of Matt and aimed their rifles at him. Erik turned it into a ball of scrap and threw it aside. Matt easily dismantled the helpless team of A.I.M.
"Better fighter than I expected." Erik smiled.
"Better suit than I expected as well." Matt chuckled as they approached the control room, "Were you going for yellow tights?"
"So that I could look like a killing machine with healing factors? No."
"Sure sounds like it."
Erik ripped the door apart as two men were shocked to what they were going to do. The three officers in the room were immediately held onto the wall by their bent guns.
"Move or you'll be moved." Matt threatened the two men as they ran away.
"Such a overused quote." Erik shook his head, "Does that even show fear anymore."
"The helmet says yes." Matt said.
"Fuck off." Erik laughed.
After a few more typing, Erik sent the prisoners free from their cells. The mutants did their own work and they watched it comfortably. Once Erik knew they were fine, he ripped open the facility roof and looked back at Matt.
"It's been a pleasure meeting you, Mr. Murdock but I best be going." Erik said, hovering.
"You too, Lehnsherr. I hope we will be doing business soon enough."
"I do hope as well. Goodbye." Erik smiled, flying away.
"Fisk is next." Matt muttered as a whole squad of A.I.M. soldiers ran towards him, "But practice won't hurt."

Hazelsong: A LitRPG Novel
Release Schedule: I will be moving to a set release schedule as of 1/1/2022. A new chapter will be released every Saturday at Noon EST. If I have time that week for a second chapter, I will leave a note on the Saturday chapter and post the second chapter on Sunday at Noon EST. An up to date character sheet for the MC Erik will also be posted on Sundays at 12:15 PM. If life happens and I am for some reason unable to write that week, I will post a blank chapter giving you an update on where I am with my writing. Saturday Noon EST: First weekly chapter Sunday Noon EST: Second weekly chapter (if I have the time) Sunday 12:15 EST: Updated character sheet Synopsis: Years after surviving a deadly accident, Erik struggles to come to terms with his painful disability. When offered the chance to playtest the world's first full immersion VRMMO, he wants nothing more than to retreat back into his secluded life, until he learns what Hazelsong really offers. An escape from the pain. Hazelsong is a world of magic and adventure, a place where friendships are formed, loot is won, and glory and fame are there for the taking. While the threats feel real and the stakes are always high, there is only one thing Erik is really in danger of. Forgetting which world is actually real. Story Themes: Hazelsong is a LitRPG novel that not only explores the fictional world of a realistic online fantasy realm but the life of a man suffering in silence from chronic pain and PTSD due to a significant physical injury and disability. Mental health is an important subject and we all know at least one person in our lives who has or is dealing with some form of mental illness. I plan on putting my best effort forward to represent these illnesses in a fair and accurate manner. Not as a cheap plot device to help make the protagonist more unique, but to help paint an accurate picture for those of us who have been lucky enough to not have to suffer in silence. About the Author: I am Ash Durra, general video game nerd and a connoisseur of fantasy and sci-fi of all shapes and sizes. Needless to say, I am not a professional author (B.S. and M.S. in Education, 8 years teaching). After really getting into LitRPG novels over the past several years, I found my way to Royal Road, which has inspired me to use my spare time to begin writing a story of my own creation. As this is a hobby, I am not writing and posting chapters on any kind of specific schedule at the moment, though my goal is to post on average 1-2 chapters a week. I am incredibly excited to share this story with others as I write it, and I look forward to any constructive feedback about how I can improve in my writing.

They are not meant to be the explicit focus of Unbind, but they will be recurring elements, albeit with scarce frequency. As a warning, there will be a note added before a chapter should it contain mature content. Updates will be posted every Sunday. As a fledgling writer, I appreciate any commentary!
