《Long Way from Home | A Daredevil Fanfiction》Chapter 1

Matt's POV
I walked into my apartment, disappointed that I didn't hadn't caught Castle yet.
'Where could he be?' I think as I enter the kitchen. 'Every night he stands on the top of that building and waits, but why?'
I get out of my Daredevil outfit and open up my closet door. I pull the base of my closet out to reveal my Dad's trunk. I haven't even opened it yet, but the smell of his boxing robe resonates with me. When I pull the hood over, I feel along the letters and take in the memories flooding back. I get so lost in thought I don't realise the heartbeat coming from the other room; it's faint but I can hear it. I stand up and make my way towards my bedroom.
"Foggy, are you in here?" I shout as I open the sliding door leading to my room.
"Hey Red... " A oddly deep voice catches me by surprise. The low rumble of his voice is chilling, yet for some reason I find comfort in it. Their voice rings with familiarity that my mind clings onto.
'Frank? No... It couldn't be. How did he find my apartment?
"Hey'a Red, ya miss me?"
'How does he know? There's no way he could've figured it out.'
"I-I don't recall. Who's Red and what're you doing in my apartment?"
"Red don't play games with me, we all know it's you. Your glasses are a dead give away," he says taking them off of my face "Plus, no one would suspect a blind man."
At that moment I knew what I had to do. I threw the first punch, of course he grabbed it. He twisted my arm backwards but before he could make a quick decision I pushed my way out of his grip. I charged at him and he threw me on the bed.

Why hasn't he been on the offense? He's usually the one to throw the first punch, why not now?
I couldn't give up. This was the moment that I wanted to catch Frank Castle and turn him in. I stood from on the bed and grabbed the lamp that was right next to me. As I wrapped the cord around my arm I grew with confidence.
"I don't want to fight you Red."
"So what do you want to do Frank because last time I checked you aren't much for talking. I told you to get out of my city and yet, here you are. Haven't you caused enough blood shed or are you not done?'
He sighed. "You don't get it Murdock, do you?"
"Obviously I don't. But hey, maybe you can explain to me while in Rikers."
I took advantage of this moment and hit him in the head with the lamp. The lightbulb broke against his skull but he didn't seem to be shaken by it, instead he yanked the lamp out of my grasp and me with it. His hand was now up against my throat and my lamp in his other. The confidence that I had felt before was smothered out into nothingness.
"Tell me, Matt Murdock, are you really blind or is it just all an act?"
"Let me go." I demand, struggling to break free.
"Y'know I'm surprised at you. You're never this sloppy. If I knew any better I'd say you're city's givin' up on you."
"Are we done or do you need me to kick your ass a little more?" He chuckles and leans his head back. "Now I know you didn't just threaten me. Not with the position you're in anyways."
I feel agitated; useless. "Is there a point to all this or do you do this just for fun?"

Frank sighs. His grip loosens and let's me fall to my knees. He leaves me there, silently gasping for air. I know he expects me to say more but, all that's there is silence. The room is spinning but all I do is distract myself with the hum of my refrigerator. Anything's better than looking him in the eye. I can feel him staring down at me. Once I catch my breath, the tension around us becomes less apparent and so does the hum of my refrigerator.
"I need your help."
"You need help? This is coming from the guy who broke into my house-
"Your window was open, I just let myself. Not usually how I roll but I had to do it-"
"Tried to fight me-
"You threw the first punch. I was defending myself, not that you were gonna do anything, If anything I kicked your ass- "
"And trashed my room."
"You were the one messed up your own room. Don't you think the lamp was a little excessive?"
"I- I'm sorry Frank, but I don't help murderer's."
"Justified murders. The people that I kill deserve it. How many times do I have to explain this to you?"
I stand up and lean up against the wall. "Not all people deserve to die. You have to give them second chances. Frank, you can't just go around committing genocide and expect me, of all people, to help you."
"I just need a place to stay for now, just for two or three weeks and then I'll be out of your hair."
"And if I refuse...?"
"C'mon Red, I'm... I'm trying to get out of New York. I'll leave and you'll never have to see me ever again, I promise."
I rub the bridge of my nose in frustration. "What if- what if the cops find out that I have you here, I could lose my job or worse!"
I want to resist, say no. Yet I can't stop feeling like have to help him.
"Just for three weeks?" I ask.
"Mhmm."
'it's going to be fine.'
"Fine... "
'What have I gotten myself into... '
