Afterwards he finally told me what happened to him.
...
It was about an hour ago. Matthew found out where the bomb-man was living at the moment and went there. It was a small house with a even smaller yard.
He broke the door and got in the living room where a lot of newspapers where laying on the floor. All of them included articles about the man with the black mask. On the wall were many pictures of him and some strings leading to other pictures but it didn't make sense at all.
Matt was standing in the middle of the room as he suddenly felt a sharp pain on his head and fell on the ground. Glass shattered and dropped on and beside his body. The man had hit a beer bottle against Matt's head - luckily there weren't any pieces of the glass under his skin.
Matt jumped up and they started fighting but the man was stronger than he thought and had some mean tricks - like a taser and dagger. Both of them gave their best but just one would be able to win this fight.
The whole living room was messed up by their fight already but still no one of them thought about giving up. All in sudden the man got to throw Matt on the floor and punched him in the face again and again.
"You killed my father!" the man yelled while punching him.
Matt couldn't think clear because of the pain but he was sure about one thing. "I don't-...I don't even know your father. I didn't kill anyone!"
The man stopped abruptly and looked at Matthew. Obviously he wasn't sure if he could trust him but he stopped doubting it just a moment later - he didn't believe the man with the mask. He pulled out a gun and held it to his head.

Then he shouted while loading the gun "I know you killed him! You are the murderer of my father!"
Matthew managed to grab the gun while breaking the man's arm and shot in his shoulder afterwards. The man fell to the floor right beside Matt and groaned loudly. He knew that the neighbours must have heard the shot so he had to leave as fast as possible before the police arrives.
He was bleeding strongly and on his way home he already felt dizzy. As he arrived in his flat he walked to the bathroom.
Once he fell down in the living room but he got up again and walked the last few steps to the bathroom where he took a bandage out of the cupboard. Matt wanted to wrap the bandage around his wounds but he broke down right beside the sink - just the way I found him.
Some months later the police finally discovered why the man did all this. We was suffering a mental disease and after his father passed away he had gone totally insane. He tried to find someone who he could blame for the death of his father but since there wasn't anyone he made something up in his head. He was sure that the man with the black mask - who was known as "Daredevil" by now - killed his father. He wasn't a bad person, just the victim of a disease.
Matt and I? We got together two weeks after he told me his secret. The first week I avoided him but the second week we spent some time together again - and one evening he asked me if I'd like to be in a relationship with him.
We're together since six months now and even plan on moving together in one of our flats or turning them into one big flat. All in all we are happy together. Sometimes it's hard for me to see him after one of his fights because I don't like it when he's hurt - but I can accept all because of one simple reason.

Because I love him.

The Girl from the Mountain
Alexandra Bedford is a weapon, a young woman with telekinetic powers capable of leveling entire cities, born to fight in the desolate remains of post-apocalyptic North America. There is only one problem: she may be losing control of her abilities. Sixteen years after a global pandemic devastated the earth’s population, the lines in the old United States have been drawn between the Cheyenne Directorate in Colorado and the New England Alliance on the East Coast. The Directorate, of which Alexandra is a part, is a small but powerful organization dedicated to returning the country to its former glory. However, when a diplomatic mission to the New England Alliance goes wrong, Alexandra finds herself at the center of a bloody civil war. Battles are fought on the old highways and in dilapidated towns and once-great cities. And as the conflict escalates, all of North America faces the threat of being burnt away by nuclear fire. Against this backdrop of war, Alexandra tries to uncover the long-hidden secrets behind the plague, her abilities, and the two men fighting to decide the fate of the United States - Henry Bedford, Alexandra's father and leader of the Directorate, and John Martin, the mysterious figure at the heart of the New England Alliance who may hold the key to everything she seeks. None of this will matter, however, unless Alexandra can prevent the power growing inside her from taking over and consuming the very world she is fighting to save. Author's Notes: I appreciate you taking a look at my novel, The Girl from the Mountain. If you're a fan of post-apocalyptic fiction, military thrillers, and/or cosmic horror, I think you'll enjoy this story. I completed the novel's first draft back in 2011 and made significant changes in 2016. Since then, I've more-or-less sat on the manuscript while working on other projects. Thanks to a bit of prodding, I've decided to send this story out into the wild with some touch-ups and additional revisions. I welcome any comments or criticisms, and I hope you enjoy The Girl from the Mountain!
