New A/N: omg good ol' times. It's so long ago this had 2K. Thanks everyone!
---------
Some days later I finally got a call from the manager of the newspaper publishing company telling me to meet up with him in 15 minutes.
Of course, I went to the meeting and talked with the manager. At his office he told me to sit down and talked a lot about my application. Then he got up and held his hand to me.
"Congratulations, Miss Gibson. You got the job." He said while smiling at me.
I immediately got up and shook his hand, thanking him a few times. Mister Colan, my new boss, chuckled and handed the contract for the job to me. Then he told me that I can read it at home so I got some time to think about everything.
I thanked him one last time and then I left building. I was still so excited about my new job that I wanted to tell someone really badly so I pulled out my phone and called Matt but he didn't pick up.
On my way home I tried twice to call him but still he didn't pick up. I told myself that he maybe just forgot where he put his phone so I wouldn't start worrying. As I arrived at the apartment block I walked inside, to the door of Matthew's flat and knocked. I waited a few minutes but the door stayed closed. Then I turned around to my door and walked inside - spending the rest of the day in the living room reading the work contract and eating some junk food. After I finished reading it I signed the contract.
In the evening I suddenly heard a loud noise coming from Matt's flat. I immediately got up and walked to outside and knocked on his door.

"Matt?" I said while pressing my ear to the door, trying to hear what's going on. "Matt? Is everything okay?"
I heard steps getting louder and just a moment later the door got opened. Matthew was standing right in front of me and smiled, but there was something else. He had a big graze under his right eye and one on his nose.
"Oh no. What happened?"
"This?" He moved a hand to his scar but didn't touch it. "It's nothing. I-...I just feel down."
"This isn't 'nothing', Matt." I frowned and carefully put a hand on his jaw and turned his head so I had a better view at the graze on his cheek. Matt put his hand on mine and moved it away from his face. Then he turned his head back to face me.
We talked a while and after some time I convinced him to disinfect his wound at least. I walked back in my flat to get a sanitizer because Matt hadn't got one at home and he walked in my living room. I took a small towel and the sanitizer out of a cupboard in the bathroom and walked to Matthew.
He was standing in the middle of the room with his hands lying on the hilt of his blind man's stick and waited patiently. Seeing him stand like this made me smile because he looked like the calmest person I ever met.
I took his hand and leaded him to the couch. I told him to sit down and after he did so I sat down as well. Then I poured a bit of the disinfectant on the towel.
"This might hurt a bit." I said and carefully dapped with the towel on his wound which made him hiss.

"Didn't you say just 'a bit'." he joked. I chuckled and shook my head a bit.
"Sorry."
Matthew chuckled and I continued cleaning his scars.
After I finished this I put the towel away and looked smiling at him for a while without saying anything.
"Are you watching me? It feels as if you'd be watching me."
I blushed lightly but luckily he couldn't see this so I chuckled and admitted that I was watching him.
I really liked spending time with Matt. He's a very kind person and funny. Always when I met up with him then I tried to stay as long as possible because I felt comfortable with him but he was always quite busy. I maybe didn't know him that long yet but I already realized that if he isn't at work then he's somewhere else. I didn't know where he was but he was barely at home.
I would have loved to spend more time with him. That's why I asked him if he wants to do something together tomorrow and, luckily, he said yes, because I told him he could choose where we are going.
The rest of this day passed quickly and late at night I went to bed.
On the next day I still was terribly tired because I didn't get enough sleep at night but I was already styled because I'd meet up with Matt in a few minutes.
Before leaving my flat I quickly ate an apple. Then I knocked on Matthew's door and he opened it a few seconds later.
"Do you already know where are going today?" I asked him while he walked out of his flat and locked the door.
"Yes. There is a fun fair today and believe me, you'll love it. I used to go there as a child."
He smiled at me and we left the building. Afterwards we walked through some streets and to the fun fair.
There were loads of balloons, a Ferris wheel, some carrousels and even a roller coaster. There were many people who bought some stuff at the stalls and their kids were amazed by the clowns. I actually was afraid of clowns because I saw too many horror movies so I did my best to avoid them.
Matt and I walked through the fun fair and after a while I bought some candy floss for us. We didn't try out any of the attractions because I didn't want to. I knew that it wouldn't make any sense because Matt couldn't see it anyways and even though he told me he would be okay with it, I still didn't want to. In the end we just walked around and talked.
I told Matt to wait while I'd get us something to drink and was just about to order two lemonades at a stall as there was a loud bang. Now everything happened within a few seconds. I turned my head and saw a big fireball which got bigger rapidly. Then the blast of the explosion ruined all the stalls and people were screaming. I looked at Matt. Right afterwards the shock wave threw me to the ground and splinters of the stalls and even a wooden plank landed on me.
My body hurt and I had a few little scars because of the splinters but after I managed to get the plank off, there was only one thing that was bothering me. I needed to know if Matthew is okay.

Ancient Bones: The Changed Ones book 1 (Post-Post Apocalypse LitRPG)
Is it truly an RPG Apocalypse... if no one can see the RPG? Generations after the Fall, Mankind has achieved a balance in a world it is no longer the master of. But your prospects in this Malthusian world are limited. Johanna Milton and her friends have an answer: delve into Ancient ruins, avoid Changed beasts and mana pockets, and salvage Ancient materials, collectibles, and trinkets to sell. It pays well if you avoid the perils of the Ancient world. But when they find the skeleton of an Ancient, their lives take a strange turn. Suddenly, Talents straight out of fantasy novels become theirs. While they try to make sense of what happens, eyes turn to them, to the four who seem to break all rules. Or are they merely following them? Because, in the Beyond where he's spent 150 years waiting, one dead Ancient knows the truth. Douglas Moore has played those games often enough when he was alive to make sense of the System that rules the Changed world. He can no longer act on his own, but he has access to the Interface. And four people for which he can bring whatever it takes to face the world. Change is coming. The Changed Ones is a slow-burn litrpg fantasy trilogy (Ancient Bones, Ancient Books, Ancient Bonds) set on Earth, 150 years after the RPG Apocalypse... which mostly failed. It is an homage to the venerable ancient RPGs of the Golden Box era, the Baldur's Gates, and many others, offering adventure where You must gather your party before venturing forth. Keywords: LitRPG, realistic setting, low-leveling, post-post-apocalypse, fantasy earth, slow-burn, secondary POVs, female primary MC, team adventure, worldbuilding. Trigger warnings: casual swearing, adult innuendo (no explicit scenes whatsoever, though). Oh, and potentially a bit of politics. Bonus content: a Litrpg Easter Egg hunt. With lots of eggs across the book, some easy, some hard to find. Current score: 6/20 (20 eggs, 6 found) Publication schedule: on hold until September for book 2.
