《Affection》Chapter 25

It makes sense. Why Thierry hasn't been hounding me this past week. I thought it was strange, but dead? As much as I despised him, he was my first boyfriend and doesn't deserve to be dead. But how can the police think Kree is capable of murder? MURDER?!!! It's been hours and I've still not heard anything. I've tried to get ahold of Angel but he's not answering my calls. On top of that, I'm sure my mom and dad keep are wondering where I am. I'm pacing up and down his room when the bedroom door opens.
'Sage.'
'Oh, thank God.' I run into his arms.
'You've been here all this time?' He asks
I look at him, flabbergasted he'd ask me that. 'Of course. What did they say?'
He throws his keys down onto his table and sits on his bed. 'Well I was released without charge. They just wanted to ask me questions about where I was on the night Thierry died. My lawyer-'
'Lawyer?' I cut in. Why would he need a lawyer when he's done nothing wrong.
'Yeah.' He glances up at me. 'My lawyer soon put a stop to that because they had nothing to hold me for.' He finishes.
'When-when did he die?' I ask.
'How the fuck am I supposed to know?' He snaps his head up at me.
'No, I mean, did they not say when-when they took you in?' I ask timidly, not wanting to upset him any further.
'If they did, I can't remember. I was more concerned about getting out of there than anything they had to say.' He replies, with his head in his hands.
'I should call Thierry's mom.' I gather my things and put them in my bag.
'Why?' He raises his eyebrow.
'I always liked her, she was good to me, even after what her son did.' He stares at me skeptically, as I continue. 'She's going to be devastated.'
'Why do you seem so upset about him?' Kree stands up glaring at me.
'Well he was my boyfriend and-and before that, we were friends for years, since we were kids.' I say, sniffling as I rub my nose. 'I did care about him at some point, so I wouldn't want him dead.'
'AND YOU THINK I DID?' He yells.
'What?' I blink out. 'Where did you make that distinction?' I'm so confused by his outburst. We've just made up from his disappearing act for the past week and had the most amazing night last night, and now here he is, with his whiplash ways.
'Babe.' I step closer to him, putting my hands on his chest. 'There is no doubt in my mind that you had nothing to do with this. No doubt. But I am grieving the loss of someone who was above all, my friend and I need you to accept that.'
'I know Sage, fuck! Don't you think I know that? There's a part of me that knows you've lost someone, but the other part of me, the fucked up part just can't get over the jealously I feel whenever I hear you talking about someone else in that way.' He exhales. 'I'm sorry.' He laces his fingers through his hair.
I go on my tip-toes and kiss his chin, tucking my head under his and just hugging him. I feel his tense shoulders relax under my fingers and we just stand there embracing each other.

'And where have you been all night missy?' Shay shouts as soon as I walk through the door. I was hoping to sneak past and run upstairs before anyone noticed.
'And a Happy New Year to you too sister. Could you be any louder?' I whisper, pointing upstairs.
'Ohhh, yeah they're not here. They had to go into work.' She munches on a bowl of cereal.
'Well thanks for scaring me. Did they notice I wasn't here?' I lay my head down on the kitchen island.
'Don't think so, they were called in at 6 am, so in their mind you're still at Theia's.' Shay shrugs.
'Speaking of Theia...' I walk out the kitchen and start typing as I head upstairs.
YOU WILL NEVER BELIEVE WHAT HAPPENED THIS MORNING!!!
Almost simultaneously, I get replies from all three of them.
Video call?
I fall back onto my bed, answering the four way video call.
'TELL US!' They all shout.
'Kree was arrested this morning.'
'Wait, WHAT? He's back?' Angel grabs the phone from Kerrys and puts his face to the camera. 'When?'
'Oh Angel, I didn't know you were there...' I say.
'Is he alright? Is he out?' It looks like he's scrambling out of bed to put his clothes on.
'Yeah, he's fine, I've just left him.' I say.
'Babe I'm going.' I hear as Angel slams Kerrys' bedroom door.
'What the hell Kerrys? You could have told us he was there? Why would you suggest a video call if you were in bed with him?' I'm pissed at this point because he shouldn't have heard it like that.
'I'm sorry. I thought you were gonna tell us about you and Kree making up and your make-up sex, not an arrest.' Kerrys tries to justify.
'Even so sis.' Kayla chimes in.
'No volverá a pasar.' Kerrys mutters.
'Dunno what that means.' Theia shrugs in the camera. 'So, arrested? What for?'
'Murder.' I shake my head.
'Well, who is he supposed to have murdered?' Kerrys questions.
'Wait, you don't know?' Of course, how could they know the news.
'Know what?' Theia looks confused.
'Theirry's dead.'
'WHATTTTTTTTTT!'
'Yeah, I found out this morning.' I say sadly.
'How do you feel, Sage?' Kerrys asks me.
'I'm okay, it's just a shock to hear. Totally unexpected. The police seem to think Kree had something to do with it. You know, since they had that fight last week.'
'Babe, it wasn't a fight. From what we saw, Kree basically assaulted him and then stormed off...' Kayla starts.
'Yeah, and?' I start to get agitated.
'So, maybe it's not beyond the realms of possibility that-'
'Let me stop you right there.' I cut in. 'Kree didn't kill Thierry and the fact that you think he could...'
'Sage, she didn't mean anything by it, did you Kay?' Kerrys rushes out.
'I didn't mean to upset you Sage-'
'You know what? I call you guys later.' I end the call and flop back onto my bed. I didn't want to say anything I'd regret. Kree's not a murderer. He wouldn't. I know him!

My anger still hasn't dispersed. I'm sat on the couch, staring at the blank TV and I don't even notice when Angel rushes in and sits down.
'Bro, what the fuck?' He says.
'What?' I stand up and walk towards the fridge, grabbing a beer.
'Err you left, now you're back and to top it all off, you got arrested.' He stands behind me, waiting for a response.

'It's all sorted now.Just some bullshit about a death.' I walk pass him, gulping my beer and sit back down. 'Have you been taking your pills?'
'That's all you're worried about right now?' He asks exasperated.
'Yeah, have you?' I stare at him
'I'm not a baby Kree, I think I will survive without you checking up on me.'
'Do you need a re-fill? Do I need to call him?' I ask.
'I'm fine!' He grunts. 'So how did you get out anyway?'
'Some hot shot lawyer turned up, told me not to say anything and then I left.' I shrug, sipping my beer.
'How did he know you'd even gotten arrested?' Angel asks.
'Does it matter? I'm out now, so let's move on.' I reply.
'Sage was pretty upset. I kinda hijacked her video call with Kerrys. That's how I knew you were back.'
'Hmmm.' I focus back on the blank screen.
'So... anything you wanna tell me?' Angel asks.
'Nope. More importantly, anything you wanna tell me?' I raise my eyebrow.
'I haven't done anything, if that's what you're asking.' He glares at me.
I glare right back at him. 'Good!'

It's been six weeks and there's still an on-going investigation into Thierry's death. The police haven't been round much but I know they're investigating because I've been to see Thierry's mom over the past few weeks. She's distraught, bless her. After my tiny disagreement with the girls over Kree's involvement into Thierry's death, they all turned up the next day apologising for upsetting me and we managed to move on from that.
Now it is Valentine's Day and we're rushing to go and buy some dresses for tonight Valentine's dance.
'It'll be alright, she said. They'll be dresses she said.' Kerrys glares at Kayla as we walk into the last shop which could possibly have dresses for us.
'Hi, we are really desperate. We need four dresses for our school Valentine's dance tonight.' I huff out to the shop attendant.
'Left it a bit late haven't use?' The attendant says.
'Blame her.' Both twins point to each other.
'I'm sure I have some in the back.' She walks off and the twins start bickering.
'Guys, not now, I've got a headache and I'm hungry.' Theia rubs her temples.
'Not like you to not have food on you, Theia.' I tease her.
'Yeah well this what happens when I'm stressed, I forget to pack food on my travels.' I chuckle at her dramatics.
'Right, these are all I have left.' The attendant comes out with four beautiful dress. She's my new fairy godmother.
'I'm having the black one. You know me, anti-valentine's day celebrant over here.' Theia points to herself.
'Literally nobody is forcing you to come tonight.' Kayla counters.
'And miss out on the all the fun and possible hook ups? No thanks.' Theia says as she finds some mints in a bowl and starts unwrapping them.
'We'll take them.'
***
'Are you driving or shall I?' I say on the phone to Theia, at the same time Shay and Luna walk in.
'No I'm gonna catch a ride with Luca.' Theia rushes out.
'Oh. Well for someone who hates Valentine's day, you've sure gone to a lot of effort to have a date.'
'He asked, so I said yes.' She's quick to respond.
'Mmhmm.' I chuckle. 'I'll see you there then.' I hang up and grab my keys. 'Come on, let's go, Theia will meet us there.'
Driving to school, my phone chimes. 'Shay can you read that for me, it's probably one of the girls.'
'It's lover boy. He says your dress better not be too revealing or else. Or else what?' She questions.
'DON'T TYPE THAT! Just leave it.' I reply to her.
'Ok. Oh wait, I get it. Ew!' She puts the phone down and turns the radio back up.
I pull up to the school at the same time the twins get there. Also, getting out of another car it's Theia with Luca. This is the third time where she's been seen with him. It's three more than any other time. Hmmm.
'Hey Luca, nice to see you again, in this type of setting.' I smirk at Theia.
'Umm, you literally just saw me at lunch today.' He replies.
Theia, for once, looks flustered. Uh huh, I've marked your card.
'I'll meet you in there okay?' She says to Luca, letting go of his hand.
'Sure.' He walks inside.
'Girllllllll!' Kerrys and Kayla both say.
'Don't make a big deal out of it.' Theia cuts in.
Eager to reply, I rush out. 'How can we not, you look like this and he looks fine-'
'Oh does he now?' A dark voice cuts me off.
"Ooops. You're in trouble. Bye.' Theia and Kayla leave me stood there, whilst Kerrys walks off to embrace Angel. 'Hey baby.' She links arms with him and they walk into the auditorium.
I turn around and my jaw drops. Kree has never looked sexier.
He steps closer me, lowering his mouth to my ear and whispers, 'I asked you a question.'
'Mmhmm... no he-' He tugs on my earlobe, making me moan. 'Kree...' I clench my thighs.
'We should go inside.' He steps back from me, smirking.
I huff and step towards him, clasping his outreaching hand. He brings our laced hands to his mouth and kisses mine. 'You look sensational.' He exhales.
'So do you.' I smile.
***
Thank God Theia brought her alcohol stash to add to the punch because it's certainly livened up this dance. These teachers mean well but without it, there'd be more atmosphere in a phone box.
Everyone is dancing around me except for Kree but I plan on changing that. 'Are you just going to stand there looking all brooding and sexy or are you going to dance with me?' I ask my man, as I step onto the dance floor, motioning him to follow me. Kree leans off the wall and stalks towards me.
'You think I'm sexy?' He smirks.
I shrug. 'Ehh, you're alright.'
He grabs my waist and places me in front of him as we move seductively to the music.
Baby, you know I'm a different type of freak (yeah, yeah, yeah)
So what you trynna do to me?
Don't be shy, talk dirty to me
Now take a shot of Hennessy
Tell me what you want (how you want it)
Kree's placing butterfly kisses along my neck, whilst sliding his hand up my right leg. The music stops and Kree stops his assault on my neck. We both look up and see those two detectives that hassled Kree a few weeks back, approach our group.
'There's been a development. We're going to need you all to come down to the station and answer some questions.' Detective Dawson says to us all.
'Why?' Kerrys asks, leaning against Angel.
'Well, after our initial inquiry, we've been able to connect the deaths of Thierry Harrison and Mrs. Anna Lewandowska, as well as the disappearance of Beatrice Lewandowska to the same person.'
'So what you're saying is, there's a killer on the loose?' Detective Dawson does not respond to Kayla's question.
'And you think it's one of us?'
