《Affection || Lee Know》여덟 - Crashing Down

"Hey Dad-" I said, before he had even spoken once the last phone call had been picked up.
There was silence on the end of the line.
"I was just ringing to see how you are, what you've been up to?" I said.
There was no answer.
I kept talking, knowing he was probably there and listening because I heard breathing on the end of the line.
"I wanted to apologize for being a bitch since Mum died-" I started, and carried on with a weak apology because I believed I had done nothing wrong, but to make our relationship work I will have to admit to things too.
There was STILL no answer.
After 15 minutes of talking, I heard a sigh.
"Hi Annie-darling, it's Areum, your step-mother. You're dad isn't around- please don't phone this number again..." She said.
And she fucking hung up.
"Bitch-" I said, slamming my phone on the countertop, cracking the screen slightly.
I rested my head in my hands, and held back tears, realizing my period started today too.
"Annie?" Minho's voice said softly from the doorway as he saw me looking into space at the kitchen table.
He put his hands on my shoulders and rubbed them slightly to 'soothe' whatever was giving me the grief, but it couldn't be solved, and definitely not with a massage.
"Did you have a talk?" He asked, looking over at my phone and his face changed expression when he saw the crack down it.
"No- he wasn't available." I said, getting up and going to the toilet.
I put on a sanitary towel and felt slightly less anxious, then left the bathroom not really wanting to speak to any of them.
"Do you want to go on a walk?" Minho asked me, leaning on the wall of the kitchen, arms folded with a weak smile on his face.
I shook my head but he seemed to be asking a rhetorical question as he grabbed my hand and handed me a coat.
"DAMI-AH!" He shouted.
"YES!"
"GRAB YOUR COAT! WE'RE GOING ON A WALK!" He shouted again, and within 10 seconds Dami was running into the kitchen, grabbing her coat from the rack.

Dami held her dad's hand as we left the house.
I wore my coat and folded my arms, why did my step-Mum actually have to be a witch?
Minho soon, well, after a few minutes, held my hand as Dami ran off ahead of us.
"Dami-ah!" I shouted as we walked down the Han river, the sky was grey, like my soul.
"It's a Saturday! Come on baby, lighten up!" Minho said, swinging our hands back and forth, making me smile a tiny bit.
"You're so cute-" He said, kissing my cheek before I pulled away from him.
"DAMI-AH! BE CAREFUL!" I shouted as she stood close to the barrier, though I knew the barrier stopped her from falling, I didn't want her to climb over it and be stupid.
"Ok Annie-"
"I'm Miss Wang thank you very much Lee Dami-" I said, eventually getting over to where she was and tickling her which made her giggle.
"Aww- you are all very cute-" An old dear said as we walked past her, Dami running ahead as Minho held my hand.
"Thank you very much ahjumma-" Minho said, bowing which earned him a slap on the head from me. I was looking at him for such a long time that I didn't notice what was going on in front of me.
"DAMI-AH!" Minho shouted suddenly, as she walked along the sidewalk, on the curb, near the cars.
"No- no- no..." I said as a car drove quickly down the road.
We were about 20 meters away from her, the car was less than that.
It was wet, so the brakes weren't working even though the lights were showing that the driver was pressing hard on them.
"DAMI!" I screamed as there was impact.
"Fuck-" I swore, tears in my eyes as I sprinted towards her, Minho following behind me quickly.
"DAMI! DAMI!" I continuously shouted as I saw her lying unconsciously on the road, the car having stopped and the driver getting out.
Minho has a hand on my shoulder as I was hysterically screaming for her to wake up, as both he and the driver were on the phone to the ambulance service.

"Annie- you've got to calm down... Dami will be ok." He said, how could he be so calm when his daughter is lying on the ground, unconscious after being hit by a car, accidentally.
"Fuck Minho- no... look." I said, pointing at Dami who lay limp on the floor, some members of the public holding me back from seeing her because I was so hysterical.
"We've got to trust her ok-" I said, his voice breaking slightly and his eyes looked sad, though he was trying to be strong.
I wept as the ambulance took her away, Minho going with her because he was her family and no one else was allowed to go.
I sat on the edge of the sidewalk, talking to officers for hours before finally being left alone.
"Changbin-" I said to myself, getting out my phone.
Why Changbin?
I was in no state to drive, and I need to get to the hospital now.
"CHANGBIN! GET YOUR GAY ASS OUT OF BED AND TAKE ME TO THE HOSPITAL! COME COLLECT ME NOW!"
"Ngg- where are you?" He asked, groggily.
"Han River, by the 7Eleven convenience store by my house, please come quickly." I said.
He hung up, not even asking what had happened which was actually considerate of him.
He came after 10 minutes and I sat shotgun as it was easier.
"What on earth happened here?" He asked, seeing the police tape.
"Dami got hit by a fucking car-" I cried and Changbin looked shocked before hitting the accelerate.
"Which Hospital?"
"Seoul National University Hospital." I said, and he hurried there, though not breaking the speed limit which was good.
"Thank you Changbin-" I said, jumping out of the car at lightning speed before sprinting inside the hospital.
"Hello- there is a patient called Lee Dami- just admitted, a car accident involving pedestrian-" I said, and the receptionist nodded quickly, sensing my nervousness and frantic behavior.
"She's in Ward 8B, Critical care. She's with her dad- your husband?"
"Yes- I'm Mrs Lee-" I said quickly, not caring whether I told the truth but I wanted to see her no matter what, even lying about this was a chance.
"I'll buzz you up- here's a card, bring it back when you leave." She said, handing me a card.
I thanked her then took a lift up to floor 8 and hurried to Ward 8B, where I saw Minho sitting outside a room, room 3.
"Minho-" I whispered, pulling him into a hug.
"Where is she?" I whispered into his ear, and he pointed to the door beside him.
"She's asleep- not a coma thankfully. But she sustained injuries, a broken leg, broken arm and wrist, lacerations and internal bleeding on the stomach.
"Oh god-" I said, burying my head into his neck, and he brushed my hair.
"She's going to be alright- I told you." He said, chuckling a little.
"Fuck you-" I chuckled back and kissed his cheek.
"The doctors said if all goes well, she can come home in a few days but for a few weeks she'll have to stay at home to rest, due to the internal bleeding and obviously her broken limbs." He said, pulling me onto his lap.
"Oh god- thank the lord." I said, looking up to the sky and smiling.
"When- when you saw Dami like l- like that... I was shocked as to how much you cared.."
"I love her- she's amazing, and god, the world would be depressing and horrible if she had died, jeez-" I said, and Minho smiled so widely.
"You're amazing-" He said.
"Not the point- I love her, and I'm glad she isn't too badly injured." I admitted, he nodded, pressing his cheek to mine.
"We can see her when she wakes up- but I suggest we go home and get some of her things before coming back so her stay is more bearable-" Minho said, I nodded immediately.
"I came here in the ambulance- so we'll take your car." Minho said.
"I came here with Changbin-"
Fuck. Again.
