《The Bodyguard》| chapter - 25 |

Sebastian under the influence of truth fog was hilarious as he shared secrets after secrets before King held a sword to his neck and he was terrified to even utter a word. He started wailing in fear which was even more entertaining than the whole confession.

The others present listened to him saying how all the supposed attacks on the Prince was done by him under King's order, how he was in contact with mercenaries and how Prince's bodyguard threatened him multiple times. His words were more than enough to make people see how King was not the loving father he pretended he was.

There was an immediate outburst of ministers, both who were with the King and against him. I walked next to Elias and sat down on my knees beside him.

"What is the next move, Your Highness?" I asked still amused and proud of how his mind works.

"It's time to help my people now." He said with a small smile.

We walked out of the place as the discussion converted into an argument.

"What do you want to do?" He suddenly asked for my opinion and I felt my lips lifting in a smile.

No one asked for my opinion, ever. Because why would any gangster consider a girl useful.

"Well, in my time we have many ways for people at the higher position to connect with people who can't reach them. How about we try a letter booth?" I suggested already feeling weird for suggesting it.

"A letter booth?" He asked with confusion.

"It's a place where people can drop a direct letter to the Prince about their worries. You can put your trusted me to read the letter and one with an actual concern could reach you." I explained.

"Why can't I read them myself?" The Elias I knew was too naive for his own good.

I planted a kiss on his cheek just because he was adorable and then answered, "Because highness just like the rest of us you have limited hours in a day. You have practice, sessions with the council, studying and other responsibilities to take care of. And maybe some people who are always there to judge send stupid letters to waste your time."

"This seems like a great idea. You will make a great Queen." He said it casually like it was a fact.

Being his Queen means marrying him and for some reason, my heart reacts wildly to this.

Kirk was unhappy now, he should be we just made a solid move to contradict him. But angry Kirk meant an impending doom.

Elias, on the other hand, was really hardworking and spent most of his time practicing magic.

Three weeks went by in silence as ministers were divided now. King was dethroned and most of the evil minister team was backing Elias now since they loved their positions too much. Norman one and Norman two were being surprisingly friendly to each other and they were busy scouting a fresh council for Elias.

King was not thrown into prison, thanks to Norman one who begged Elias to keep his father out of there.

But what kept me awake at night was, why is Kirk silent? Agnes and the Queen were still in hiding but Agnes visited. Elias didn't want his mother out till he took over the throne.

"When is the crowning?" I asked Norman one while we all sat outside the palace on the sand while Elias was in the library.

"The astrologers said that it should by the end of the month when the sky is moonless." I don't blame them, even people in my century are superstitious why can't these guys be.

"How is your father doing?" I asked Norman one.

"Fine after all he has done."

"You are a really nice guy even after such a fucked up dad, maybe it's all in the name." Norman two said indirectly praising himself.

Norman one got the gist of his words and smiled, "My mother was a nice woman."

His mother as Elias told me was King's wife before he took over the throne. She died due to a plague that happened back when Elias' father was the King.

Suddenly Norman two coughed and we saw drops of blood on his hand.

His time here was taking a toll on his body. Without Kirk's help, he might die soon.

"He had been in this condition for a week now." Norman one confided and I stifled a gasp.

"Should we tell Elias about it? He is quite strong now." Norman one asked looking concerned.

The goodness in Norman amazed me.

"Let him be, it's not like my living would do any good." As soon as the words were out of Norman two's mouth I felt like slapping him, hard.

"So you want to die?" Before I could speak, Norman one glared at him with anger.

"No-no, I meant..." Norman two was at loss for words.

"We are saving you," I said with a tone of finality.

There was no winning against my stubbornness and boys knew that so they didn't say a word.

And then we sat there looking at the stars each of us thinking things we could not say out loud.

But the calm did not last long, as out of somewhere Agnes appeared in front of us.

We immediately stood up in defending mood but stopped when we saw her looking pale with fear. Her unruly blonde hair was caked with dirt and her face had the mark of blood. I ran to her worried that she might be hurt.

"Agnes?" I asked as she tried to control her breathing.

"Plague." She muttered out tears brimming in her eyes.

"What?" I asked again not sure what she meant.

"So this is his plan?" Elias' angry voice from behind us shocked me.

"What is happening?" Norman two asked venting out my frustration in his words.

"Kirk just caused a plague in the lower region of the kingdom." Agnes finally shared the information with us.

I immediately turned to look at Elias.

He seemed seething with anger, as I saw a nerve protrude on his forehead.

"How does it spread?" He asked.

"Air." She said the dreaded words.

That meant it is going to spread fast and wide.

"We will see about that," Elias said and started walking towards his room with large footsteps.

What was he thinking now?

I followed him signaling boys to remain outside for a moment.

"You are not going in a place contaminated with the plague," I said in a stiff tone.

"And let my people die?" He asked with a soft look in his eyes.

Now how can I answer that question? He is the King, he had responsibilities.

With great power... damn you spiderman!

"then I will come with you." I declared not sure what else to do.

His soft gaze transformed into an angry glare.

"No, you will do no such thing." His words were not even a surprise.

"And what will you do to stop me?" I asked with a dry smile.

"Give you a sleeping draft or an essence candle will be enough to make you unconscious."

This time I glared at him.

"Okay Prince take it this way, I am your bodyguard I need to accompany you everywhere."

"And you are the girl I love, I can't put you in danger zone."

Even though this was heart touching and all but I scoffed, "So I can't do anything to protect the man I love."

"You have done enough already." He was begging now.

But I was stubborn as hell, "Elias, if you want to spend the rest of your life with me remember I will always try to protect you before me and will not change in someone I am not, damsel in distress."

"You know it is better we don't waste time and start the journey so you both can come along." Norman two said coming out of the hiding from behind the door.

"You also?" Elias asked.

"I am dying anyways, maybe I can help a bit." He offered weakly.

Elias sighed and I sensed defeated in there somewhere.

"If you die, does he die too?" Norman two asked me in a whisper.

"No, that is only when he is in my time. This is his time, he does not need an anchor."

"And you, how do you survive in this time?" He asked the vital question.

"That I need to ask Agnes or Mel about," I muttered under my breath not sure I wanted Norman to hear that answer.

***

The lower region of the Kingdom was the part where the working people lived. It had the homes of carpenters, farmers, sweet makers and other things. They were the people who helped in the survival of the rest of the population.

It was intelligent on Kirk's part to target this portion.

We all had our noses covered with a cloth to avoid breathing in the air but I was still worried. It was Kirk and there had to be some magic involved.

As we crossed the grasslands, fear gripped my heart on seeing the black, withered grass. If this was how the grass is, I was scared to think about people.

"Why are we even here?" I said in a whisper for some reason.

"Too see what magic has done this and come up with a cure." Elias was calm about this like he knew what to do.

Agnes was silently mumbling some words, with her eyes in a trance.

"She has created a shield around us," Elias answered as he followed my gaze of observation.

"She can't do that for the whole place?" Norman two asked.

"We have no idea how far it is. And shielding might prevent it from spreading but the ones already affected will die." Elias has thought this through.

As we came closer to the town, my stomach started twisting painfully as the gruesome sight. The street was filled with dead bodies all black and purplish. Little kids were sobbing clutching on to the dead not caring about the contamination in that moment.

"This is brutal," I said out the words looking at crying families in every direction.

I have killed people, too many to even count now but never did I kill someone innocent. Being raised this way, Mel always made me see the difference between right and wrong. I will not justify killing someone and I will be in hell for it. But right now what Kirk was doing shook me from within.

I saw the tear of anger drop down from Elias' eyes. This is a truly terrible kind of plague and it will spread with air, something that had no barriers.

These were kind of people who did most for the kingdom but mattered the least. Even if they die no one will bother about them. Killing them will not harm Elias' reputation. Why was Kirk doing that?

"Let's make a deal Prince." As if Kirk could read my mind and stepped out of nothing but darkness.

We all went on our defensive mood.

"And that is?" Elias had the calmness in him to talk.

"I will stop the plague if you send this one back in time. And just because I do care about you I will let this man accompany her as well so that he lives." He wanted me gone and this way we can save both kingdom and Norman.

Elias might have seen the ideas forming in my head because he gave me his sternest look.

"And when she is gone? What good will that do?" Elias asked and I noticed all this while a white wisp forming at the tip of his hands.

"A part of you will remain incomplete as horribly romantic it sounds, but you souls are connected so without her you cannot access all the magic," Kirk explained the massiveness of the situation.

"You don't want anyone to threaten your position, is that it Kirk?" Elias was wasting time to build whatever he was building.

"You don't need the magic to be King Elias, let her go and I remain the god while you rule as King. I wanted to kill you but I have grown attached to the little boy I taught so I am letting you live." He was smiling like a predator and it took all my energy not to attack him even though I was useless here.

"What if he refuses?" Agnes spoke up and I noticed the tears in her eyes.

Her love story was tragic in every time, the evil husband being the cause of it.

"Then he will see his Kingdom perish in a way that will burn him from within for the rest of his lives."

"I will come with you," I said before anyone could make a suggestion

I know it will be tough for Elias to make such decisions and I hated being a liability.

Kirk smiled at my decision.

"I was being civil all this time Kirk, just being a Prince and nothing else. You had to corner me into this. And Alisha, you are mine now. You don't decide what happens with you." His tone was scathing and I would have rolled my eyes since I was not his property.

But like a fool, I was in love and when he called me his and declared that he didn't want me gone, I just let out a breath I was holding and the knot in my gut loosened.

"What will you with that little magic you have brewing since we started talking?" Kirk noticed it as well and he was mocking.

He nodded at Agnes as if this was a signal and then sparks of white light shot from his hands. It was too bright and I had to squeeze my eyes to the smallest size. I couldn't close them since I wanted to see what he was doing.

And, damn, it was magic.

The light spread kept spreading to the point where my eyes can't reach as Agnes mumbled even more vigorously. Kirk was taken aback as he tried to block the light everywhere. I could feel the air around us getting lighter as the light worked its way through whatever illness seeped into the air.

And I saw Kirk stumble with so much force.

"Fool!" He bellowed, 'You chose her over your own life, the life of your people?"

"Being a King allow me to make some selfish decisions, doesn't it? I just chose love over life, any sane man would." Elias answered with ease.

The month's practice improved his this much if he was allowed being his best I would reckon to imagine what will happen to Kirk or Matthews or anyone. I can clearly see why Kirk was so afraid of him.

Kirk vanished because Elias being Elias allowed him to live. Agnes dropped down to her knees, shedding tears. Norman two, on the other hand, looked less pale and a lot better.

"What was this, your highness?" I asked biting my lower lip afraid that he will be angry for me being the sacrificial lamb a few moments ago.

Instead, he just pulled me for a short, passionate kiss.

"Just a little healing magic." And I looked around to see the place that was trashed a few minutes ago was blooming with life.

The dead were still dead but the others were cured and filled with life.

"We need to leave before someone sees you here Elias," Agnes said in a strained voice.

It was Dark Knight over here, people too scared to believe in what they can't understand while magic saves their lives they still fear it.

After few moments of walking, I looked at him carefully, "You choose me."

It was neither a question nor an answer just an outburst of disbelief.

"Does that surprise you?" He asked with a small frown.

"Overall the people Elias." I was still under after effect of it.

"what would you have done?" He asked staring right into my eyes with a challenge.

That answered my question, I would do the same.

"A King needs to be selfless though," I mumbled keeping my head low feeling guilty for some reason.

"No," His lips lifted in a slow smile, "A King needs to be intelligent. I saved both you and the people, didn't I?"

"Yeah, that is cool dude. But that Kirk fellow still ran away." Norman two just had to remind us about the worst.
