《The Bodyguard》| chapter - 14 |

Even though I came from a gangster's family but I hated stealing from someone who didn't have enough. But right now I had no option but to steal from a maid since I cannot show up in a princess' outfit. I was 'undercover' as per Elias' letter.

So I was dressed in maid's simple dress and waited for Elias who I left a few moments ago as a bodyguard. The market was indeed beautiful. The fragrance of food was alluring me, there was a colourful piece of clothing all over with some girly pins and shoe shops.

There were a lot of handicraft stuff and also wishing well stop. It was a date alright just like in modern times but on a historical movie set up.

"It was my idea." Elias' voice caught my attention.

"What?"

"Market. It benefits the people who work on such beautiful crafts with their own hands."

He was a great Prince for sure, something I didn't expect at first. And he will make a great King without any doubt but with so many enemies I was scared for his life.

"I love your hair colour." He said suddenly and I looked at him with an arched brow.

"Just an observation."

Yes, maybe for you but little things like this was unsettling for me and my heart.

"So you are buying something for me, right?" I asked to start a normal conversation which I was really bad at.

He laughed out loud and it felt good to hear him laugh freely.

"Anything you want." He said and smoothly interlaced his fingers through mine.

Heat spread all over my face and I was helpless in this situation.

"Alisha." He said it like a thought to himself.

"Huh?"

"It just feels great to say your name out loud." And he smiled at me.

The market was really crowded and I had to be on double alert to keep him safe.

"You seem distracted." He pointed out correctly.

"I am since you have a lot of enemies."

"And does my having enemies offend you or make you uncomfortable somehow?"He wanted to know if him being the King could make me not like him.

"As long as you can handle the enemies and not let them near me, I am fine," I said in the most princess-y manner possible.

"Yeah, I will make sure of that but as I have seen you could handle enemies on your own quite well." He seemed cheered up at my answer.

"I have heard rumours about you," I said in an attempt to tease him.

"What rumours?" He was immediately on defense mood.

"You get bored with once girl easily." Well, this was a lie but isn't that the usual rumour about a good looking guy.

"I did." He said after much thought.

"Don't worry I am not easily heartbroken," I said with an attempt at being a cool non-clingy girl.

"Who said I am bored of you?" He asked with a frown of worry.

"You are not, yet but maybe after few meetings."

"Then let me decide after few meetings?" He asked hopefully.

I was conflicted that should I be worried that he didn't outright refuse that he will be bored of me or happy that he was asking for more dates.

"We will see how you do today and then decide," I answered him in a playful manner.

We were in a pottery section and Prince' s eyes must have spotted something nice because he stopped. There was a small tea light with intricate patterns and it looked beautiful even to me.

"This will be good to remind you of me. You can keep it as the last light in your room before going to sleep."

And that will Elias' room now.

Suddenly my eyes caught a shop for a future telling guy and I was very interested.

"Can we go to that stall?" I asked and he seemed surprised by my demand.

"Fine." He nodded and I excitedly moved towards the shop.

The guy looked normal and sans any weird accessories or orbs or anything. He did have rosemary beads, few cards and a flask of water. As I approached him, he smiled and gestured me to sit.

"Ask any three questions you are most curious about."He said solemnly.

I can't ask about future time things in front of Elias.

"When will I go home?" I asked putting all my thought on home as my dad's place.

He grabbed my hand and the warmth in his hand shocked me. He closed his eyes and murmured something. His eyes opened and he answered, "Soon."

He was a fake, Elias was right. This guy was just making business here.

But now I was here so I asked another question just for fun, "Will I always be a princess or do I have hopes of becoming a queen?"

Elias rolled his eyes at my question.

This time he chuckled and letting go of my hand he said,"You are not a princess."

Of course, I was not, I was in maid's outfit you scam artist.

"You are a protector." He said and I inhaled sharply.

I am a bodyguard right now. He could not have guessed that. Females in this time were not bodyguards.

"Then answer my last question, does the one I protect come to any harm?" This question came out of the blue.

I didn't plan it or even thought about it.

"Take him wherever you go and he will be fine." He said putting force on wherever.

Was he for real? How did he know I was protecting a he?

Mumbling a thank you I got up and looked at baffled Prince.

"What was he talking about? Who are you protecting?" He asked.

"My kingdom's pride." Another apt-for-a-princess reply came out.

"Do you want to eat something?" He asked but I was still in a haze.

The future seeing guy did say I would go home soon, was I going back to my time?

"Are you alright, Alisha?" My name from his mouth pulled me out of reverie.

"I am fine. Let's try some games." I said giving him a big smile but he looked unconvinced.

There was a game in which we had to hit the target with a dagger and not bow and arrow. I choose that but Prince refused to play to avoid any unnecessary attention on him.

But I played and hit the target surprising people around me.

"I have never seen a girl like you," Elias whispered in awe.

Because you have never been in my time.

"Like what?" I wanted him to elaborate.

He gave me a sheepish smile and said, "Someone who makes me feel safe like all my worries and burden is easy when you are around."

Maybe because he is a Prince, he was articulate.

I couldn't answer so I just smiled.

Suddenly someone bumped against my shoulder and I winced out loud since I had injuries all over me now.

"What happened?" Elias asked on my loud wince.

"Nothing, someone strong bumped past me."

But I had an easy unfeeling about the person.

"So what kind of a man do you like?" He asked not sure if I had a type.

"I don't know, someone who can appeal me with his charms."

"And what do that charms include?" He probed further.

"Since I haven't met very kind people in my life, kindness is one of them." Besides that whatever Elias did nowadays had a charm for me.

"You tell me what kind of girl do you like?"

"Like you."

"Very smooth Your Highness. But honestly what kind of girl?"

"Honestly, I had no definite character list for my ideal girl but now are my ideal list. Now if I meet someone I will compare them with you." He answered and like I said, good with words.

I felt someone's eyes on us and carefully checking the area around us I realised what a bodyguard should. We were surrounded for an attack.

Can they not let me live in peace? Should I protect him as a princess like I did during the ball or should I pretend to be the damsel and hide somewhere and let the bodyguard me do the job?

All my problems were solved when someone familiar came on the scene, Kirk. He blinked in my direction and I stepped aside taking his signal as he now protected the Prince.

The fight didn't last for long since the market was in commotion and soon the official market guards joined in. Before that Kirk knocked down most of the attackers. He came next to me since Prince was still clearing few attackers on him. I wanted to move ahead and help the Prince but Kirk stopped me.

"What?" I asked slightly agitated.

"He is a Prince and there will always be someone to protect him." He said it like it should mean something.

"So, should I just leave him then?"I asked rather harshly.

Kirk chuckled at my question or maybe at my temper right now.

"I am just giving you an option. He might have died if you were not here, there were many opportunities. But you also have a life. I am trying to correct my wife's mistake here." He offered.

That meant he had an option, a method that could lead me back to my time. It was tempting but before I could say a word Elias came towards us.

"How did you know about this attack?" He asked Kirk.

"I know many things, Eli." And smirked at me.

The nerve of this old man.

"Thank you." He said sincerely and then towards me,"Are you fine?"

I nodded and gave him a small smile.

"I think I need to go back now Prince," I said looking carefully at amused Kirk.

"Not before I show a beautiful place." He said taking hold of my hand again.

"It was nice meeting you, Princess. I am your side." He said to clarify that it was my choice if I stayed back or not.

And it felt heart aching to remember my dad back at home and to leave Elias here. Kirk destroyed my mood.

"Whatever," I said coldly.

But both the males around me looked amused.

"I wonder where Arthur went."

Shit, as a bodyguard he should be here when Elias was attacked.

"Maybe he is injured." I put a lame reason.

"Not by people like these. He is excellent." Elias said with pride.

Thank you.

"Well, then he might have fought when you didn't notice and is still following us." He nodded with a hum but looked a little concerned.

"You seem close to your bodyguard," I commented just to know what he thought.

"He is my only friend." He said with sincerity.

Wow.

I noticed while talking we reached a lake.

"You wanted to show me a lake?" I wanted to laugh a little.

"Just come." He said and we walked further and I noticed a cave, well hidden by rocks and trees, at the end of the path.

"A Cave?" Now I was interested.

"No one knows about this not even my bodyguard, just my mother." He with a cute smirk.

"And what is inside the cave? Something magical?" I couldn't help but tease.

"You could say that." He said and as we entered amazing fragrance filled my senses.

It was filled with books, candles, a lot of bottles and jars, weapons, blueprints. I walked closer and noticed there were a lot of scrolls with weird calligraphy on them.

"Magical Scroll." He said from behind him.

Warm breath caressed the back of my neck and I felt goosebumps all over my body. He was too close right then and I was scared he will hear the drums beating in my chest.

"I came here with my mother." He explained and I realised he was telling me a secret no one knew.

A secret only I saw as Arthur. Her mother was a witch.

"If I want to be with you I will start with the truth." He confided in me and I was immensely touched by this.

He was really serious about me.

"I have my secrets so I will force you with yours," I told him with a gentle smile.

"My mother was put in a prison because she worked a little ... magic." He said uncomfortably.

"So are you saying you learned all the tricks from her?" I asked and looked at him.

Elias was already perfect for me, if he knew magic I think I will like him even more.

His smirk told me he knew magic.

"Do you hate me or find it repulsive as rest of the population?" He asked looking really worried.

I laughed out loud on his question.

"Tell me if you find this repulsive Prince." And I leaned in for a kiss surprising both of us.
