"We tracked the line and got a destination. You can wait here; we will be back with your fiancé Mr. Wills," said detective Danes.

"No no no... I will join you. I can't just stay here."

"Sir, I don't take witnesses or victim's family to the field with me. And apparently you're both. We will go get her and arrest the suspect in no time. Just wait here. I promise you that she will be safe and sound, if you stay here."

"I promise I won't interfere with you work, officer. But I really can't just wait here. I need to be there when she gets help. I need to comfort her and comfort myself. Please sir. I can even be of a use... I mean you never really know what can happen. Just please!"

"..."

"I will appreciate that so much, sir."

"Fine. But you don't step out of the vehicle, unless ordered to. If you take a single step without a clear permission from me and only me, you will be out of my guard, and this means if you get into any trouble, I won't give a single damn nor will any of my men."

"Yes, sir."

He nodded and signaled me to follow his lead. We got into the vehicle, and hit the road. Two other cars followed our tail; each car held three armed cops. I still didn't feel like this is going to work. I felt like I won't go home with her tonight. Like I won't even see her tonight. Something feels wrong. And I know well to follow my instincts; they never fooled me. They told me she was trouble, and now I know what they meant with trouble. But I would never regret that trouble I've got myself in. and I don't know what she does to me, or why did I fall for her that bad. But if something I know well, it's that I want to go back with her in my hands, tug her in her bed, pat her dark hair, place a kiss on her forehead, and watch her all night long as she falls asleep. And what I feel now is too far from comforting. What if I really don't find her tonight? Or what if I never do? Or what if I do but after it's already too late? God no... I would die out of agony. She keeps me alive, and life without her isn't even bearable.

We stopped.

"This is the building. I don't think the apartment's number matters to you. I need not repeat what I said about you staying where you are, do I?"

"No, sir."

Detective Danes left the vehicle, and fire snakes started a BBQ party in the back of my head. Is this how fear feels like?

The cops followed Danes into the building and took the stairs to their destination. I thought staying in the car would be the easy job here, but it seems like I was way too unexperienced to assume anything. I count the people in the street, surrounding the police cars and waiting for the big show. I count the stars in this starless sky. I count the blocks in that building. The numbers increase just at the same acceleration as my heart rate. 345...346...347... and then I stopped the counting, and went back to the questions. Will the detective come out of that door with a maniac and my Hazel? Or will he come out with Maggie and the man she loves? Or will he even find any of them? I think I suffer from shitty-questions syndrome.

And then Detective Mike Danes comes out with cuffed man who looks too submissive and perplexed to be a psychopath. No girl though. No Hazel. No Maggie. Nothing. I just couldn't do this anymore. I kicked the door open and raced toward that jerk. I grabbed him from his shirt, and cops interfered, separating us and advising me with some legal/illegal bullshit. But all I could do was struggle towards him again.

"Where is she you crazy piece of shit? Where is she?" I cried, hearing an unfamiliar crack in my voice.

"Richard, stop! You're not helping here. Go back to the car, now! He can accuse you of assault right now, and I would be more than glad to be a first witness. You were ordered to stay in the damn car!"

"YOU SAID YOU WILL FIND HER!! YOU SAID SHE WILL COME BACK SAFE AND SOUND!" I don't recognize myself anymore. Neither does he.

"She's not up there, Richard. We've searched in every corner, but found nothing. Now he's the only hope we have. We will take him to the station and start a proper interrogation. So if you can please stop attacking our only suspect and get a hold of yourself, I would be thankful," he said with a sorry-sarcastic-shocked-defensive-impatient tone that for some reason had the authority to paralyze me for a couple of seconds. I then I walked mutely back to the vehicle and took my seat. Danes was back and on the run in less than five minutes.

I hope I see you again Hazel. Now I don't even know if that is possible...
