《havoc | bellamy blake (book two)》10 | they weren't

As soon as it got dark enough, the three got up from their spot in the woods and started to sneak into the camp. Jovie led the way as she knew it best.
"Wait, Jo," Finn whispered. She turned around to see that he had a torch in his hand.
"What are you doing? This wasn't part of your plan," Murphy said.
"We're changing the plan," Finn said. Jovie didn't like the sound of that. Changing the plan was never a good idea unless their lives were in danger. So far, they were totally fine. "This is their food." Finn threw the torch into the shack and it immediately lit up.
Grounders screamed as a bell rang. Jovie, Murphy, and Finn ran away from the shack that was now on fire to take cover. As they hid behind a building, a Grounder turned the corner and saw them. Murphy slammed him in the head with the butt of the gun as he screamed to alarm the others.
"We need to run!" Murphy exclaimed.
"Can't. They'll kill our people," Finn said.
"They'll kill us!" Murphy shot back. Before Jovie could even say anything, Finn grabbed the Grounder and walked out with him as hostage as he rapidly shot his gun into the air. The Grounders jumped back as Finn approached them.
"Get back here, Finn!" Jovie yelled, following after her friend. It was obvious the Grounders were already scared. Firing his gun didn't do anything.
"Who's in charge here?" Finn asked the crowd. When no one stepped forward, he just got more mad. "I'll ask again. Who's in charge?" A man with long hair and tattoos on his face finally stepped forward.
"Our leader isn't here," he said. "You can deal with me."
"Nobody has to get hurt. We just want our people back," Finn told him.
"We don't have your people," the man said.
"Then you won't mind if we look around," Finn said. He dropped the man he was holding hostage to the ground and slowly backed up with his gun still raised. "Jo, Murphy, round them up."
"I'm sorry, I didn't realize I took orders from you now," Jovie snapped, feeling a sudden annoyance with Finn. He was acting like a completely different person, someone hostile and aggressive. Finn glanced over at her, his face softening a bit.
"Please, just do it," he said in a less demanding way and more in a way that made him sound almost desperate. Jovie stared at him for a brief second before nodding her head. It was probably better if she and her brother handled the Grounders anyway. For once Murphy wasn't the one who wanted violence. In fact, he was trying to avoid it. And Jovie always tried to find a way around it.

She walked over to the man that had spoken for his people. He looked over at her, and she gave him a look that as if she was trying to silently tell him that she was trying to help them.
"If everyone just stays calm no one will get hurt," she told him quietly. "We just want to find our friends."
"I told you, we don't have them," he said to her.
"Let my friend look around. If you're telling the truth then you have nothing to worry about," she said. He paused as he stared at her, like he was trying to figure out if she was being genuine or not. He also looked like he recognized her.
"You are Natstrecha," he said, more stating it than asking it, but she nodded nonetheless. "You were watching this village."
"Yes, so I know that your people are not a threat to us," she said.
"I'm Nyko. I'm our tribe's healer," he introduced himself.
"I wish I could say it was nice to meet you, but you know, under these circumstances..." she said, referring to the fact that she was currently herding him into a pen with his people like they were animals. He didn't say anything in return but instead gave her a look that seemed he understood that she didn't want it to be this way.
"I told you, we don't have your people," Nyko called out a few minutes later as Finn searched through their homes and buildings.
"Stop talking," Murphy said. "Find something?" When Finn didn't answer, he looked over at Jovie. "Finn? Finn, answer me! Are you all right?" One of the Grounders started to get up but Murphy quickly stopped them. "Hey, on your knees! On your knees, now! On your knees!" Jovie moved her attention from the Grounder to Finn who was rushing over to them with an angered look on his face.
"Hey, what's-" Jovie started to ask but stopped when Finn held up the gun to Nyko's head.
"What have you done with them?" Finn screamed.
"Hey, Finn, Finn! Come on!" Murphy said, trying to stop him from doing anything he would regret.
"Their clothes are here! They were here!" Finn screamed. Jovie put a hand on her head. She wanted to believe there was another explanation for why their clothes would be here, but it was a pretty convincing piece of evidence. For Finn, it was a definite piece of evidence. She didn't think she would be able to convince him otherwise.
"Finn," she said. "Put the gun down."

"You killed them!" Finn screamed at Nyko, completely ignoring both Murphy's attempts to get him to calm down.
"Your friends were not here. I saw one, Octavia. She was alone," Nyko said. Jovie looked over at Nyko when he mentioned Octavia. She could tell that he was telling the truth. Nyko was a healer, not a hunter.
"These people are scavengers, Finn. They could've just found that stuff," Murphy chipped in. Finn was forcing the pieces together to make a story about these Grounders having their friends. It didn't mean it was true. He just needed something to believe so he could stop wondering where Clarke really was.
Finn ignored Murphy as he slammed a girl down to the ground, stepping forcefully onto her back.
"Finn!" Jovie screamed, grabbing his arm to try to pull him off.
"Get off me!" He screamed as he pushed her off and pointed the gun at the girl's head.
"Don't do this," she said. "This is not who you are!"
"Let's just walk out of here while we still can, okay? Finn. Please," Murphy begged alongside his sister. Never once did Jovie think this scenario would be occurring, but here they were. Finn breathed heavily as he stared at the girl underneath his foot then finally stepped back and stared at the sky in desperation. He walked away from the pen in frustration, running his hands through his hair. Murphy and Jovie exchanged a brief look with each other before following after him. He was so close to losing his shit and they didn't know how to help him.
"Look, just because their clothes are here, doesn't mean anything," Murphy said.
"He told us our friends were here. Why would he do that?" Finn asked.
"The guy with one eye? Maybe because you had a gun to his head, Finn," Murphy suggested. It was something they kept bringing up but Finn refused to acknowledge.
"The man with one eye," Nyko spoke up. He went to stand but Finn held his gun up so he slowed down. "You saw Delano. A snake. A thief. He and his men were cast out. You are his revenge."
"It makes sense, okay? He knew sending us here meant putting them in danger," Jovie said, pointing to the village of Grounders who looked scared and helpless as they were trapped in the pen.
"We need to go. Now," Murphy said as he started to walk away. "Now, Finn! We need to go." They turned to walk away when an old man suddenly jumped over the fence and tried to make a run for it. Finn barely hesitated as he turned and shot the man dead. Jovie stared at the Grounder in shock as she tried to register what had just happened. She found herself moving closer to the pen, almost as if she felt like it was her way of trying to protect them from Finn.
"He was just trying to get away!" Nyko screamed. It was true. The man hadn't ran at them. He was running the other direction.
"Come on," Murphy said quietly. Another Grounder, a younger boy this time, leaped over the fence in attempts to escape just like the older man had done. Jovie's heart dropped when Finn shot the boy too. It was like that gunshot was the one that created the hysteria. Grounders all tried to flee the pen, pushing each other as they tried to leap over. Nyko tried his hardest to hold them all back but there were too many of them. Finn just lost control as he opened fire on the Grounders, hitting each one that tried to escape.
Jovie felt numb as she watched her friend turn into this killer. She felt so numb that she didn't even realize when a bullet accidentally struck her in her shoulder as she stood too close to the Grounders. It was only when Clarke, Bellamy, and Octavia showed up that she felt the pain. Her hand flew up to her shoulder that felt like it was on fire.
Octavia sprinted over to where Nyko was crouched down next to one of the boys that Finn had killed and Bellamy sprinted over to where Jovie was clutching onto her bleeding shoulder.
"Jo!" He said when he reached her. "You were shot." Jovie couldn't even find words as she looked around at the scene in front of her. She didn't even care that she had been shot because she was still alive. They weren't.
Jovie looked over at Finn who was staring at Clarke in disbelief, like she was a ghost standing in front of him. But she wasn't. She was alive. They weren't.
"I found you," Finn said. Clarke just shook her head as she stared at him like he was a monster. He had taken their lives without hesitation and there was no going back from that.
