After the Grounder had drawn the map, they had to figure out what to do with him. They couldn't just let him go because then he would get the other Grounders and go after them. They couldn't just leave him here alone because he could escape or die. And they couldn't just kill him because that would be wrong.

"Gather up the gear. We're leaving," Bellamy said.

"What are we going to do with him?" Jovie reminded them.

"We leave him, deal with him when we're done," Bellamy said.

"And what if he escapes? He knows exactly where we're going," Murphy pointed out, speaking Jovie's thoughts.

"We're not killing him!" Bellamy said, speaking Jovie's other thoughts.

"I don't really see another option. If we don't take care of this now, it'll blow back on us and you know that," Murphy said. He was probably right, but Jovie didn't think murdering him was the right solution. Sometimes down here killing would be necessary, but not if there was another way first.

"He's unarmed, Murphy," Bellamy said.

"He's a Grounder," Murphy said. He looked over to the others and saw that they were just as hesitant. "Really? Come on, tell him!"

"Bellamy's right. We can't just kill him," Jovie said. "We're not murderers. Well, not all of us at least." She narrowed her eyes at her brother as she said the last part, reminding him of what's he done. She didn't think of how that would backfire on her.

"You can't be one to talk, Jo. I think Atom would have something different to say about you," he snapped back, finally having enough with her snide comments towards him. She lunged out to punch him for bringing that up, but Bellamy quickly grabbed her to stop her.

"You don't know what you're talking about!" She screamed at her brother. She had to kill Atom. He was suffering and was going to die anyway. But he was still right, she was a murderer.

"Jo, calm down," Bellamy said quietly to her, making sure she wasn't going to attack her brother again before he finally let her go. He knew how much killing Atom had affected her and he felt slightly guilty about it too. He hadn't been able to do it, so she did. Now she carried that burden.

"He's gonna tell his people everything, we're as good as dead. Our friends too," Murphy continued to plead his case about killing the Grounder.

"We're not doing this, end of discussion. You want him, you go through me," Bellamy said to Murphy.

"What exactly happened to you? You're acting like you've never killed a Grounder before," Murphy pointed out. Bellamy had been for killing Grounders not too long ago and now he was trying to save one.

"That was in battle," Bellamy stated. "This would be an execution-" Just as he finished the last word, a gunshot fired through the depot. They all flinched as they had not been expecting it. Jovie looked over, her stomach dropping when she realized it had been Finn. She had thought that she had gotten through to him, convinced him that he didn't have to turn into someone he wasn't. But she had just failed. Now she felt the weight of the Grounder's death. It was less the fact that the Grounder was dead that bothered her and more that it was Finn who had killed him. It was obviously not her fault that he had done it, but she still felt it. Guilt was a bitch.

"Let's get moving," Finn said dully before walking past them, grabbing the map on the way out. The rest of them slowly filed out after him, but Jovie felt stuck there as she stared at the Grounder's dead body.

"Jo," Bellamy said, reaching out to put a hand on her shoulder. She moved her eyes over to his, an expressionless look on her face. In the beginning Bellamy would have just thought that she was showing no emotion because she didn't care. Now Bellamy knew that she was showing no emotion because she cared too much. Jovie felt everything so deeply. "We need to go."

"Everyone, eyes peeled. We're in Grounder territory," Bellamy said as they walked through the woods.

"Everything is Grounder territory, all right? I can't keep running," Murphy said. "We don't even know if the guy Finn killed was telling the truth." Jovie had thought about that too. He had a gun to his head, so it was likely that he would just say whatever he thought they wanted to hear. He probably knew that Finn was going to kill him anyway too, so why would it matter if he lied to them?

"Keep moving," Finn ordered.

"We can take a quick break," Jovie said. They would be better off if they caught their breath rather than kept pushing.

"No, we can't! You heard what that Grounder said... 'They'll outlive their usefulness'," Finn reminded them.

"I heard what he said when you had a gun to his head," Bellamy said.

"Look, you think I wanted to do that? He would have told his people we're coming, and by the time we got there, our people would be dead. Maybe that's something you can live with, but I can't!" Finn yelled.

"None of us would be able to live with it," Jovie cut in. Finn couldn't act like he was the one who cared. They were all out here to find their friends. Just because they weren't all flying off the handle didn't mean they didn't care as much as he did.

"Hey, you did what you think you had to do, but you are not yourself right now, and I can't be out here with another loose cannon," Bellamy said. They already had to worry about Murphy pulling something. They didn't need to worry about Finn too.

"Guys," Sterling interrupted, pointing out some debris and dead bodies up ahead.

"Fall in," Bellamy said.

"Where the hell did they come from?" Finn asked. Jovie leaned down to get a better look, trying not to gag as the smell from the dead body filled her nose.

"They came from the Ark," she said, glancing back up at Bellamy. He nodded his head slightly before slowly walking forward to see what else there was.

"It's a rough landing," Murphy commented as they walked through the crash site.

"There's nothing we can do for these people. We got to go," Finn said. A distant scream caught Jovie's attention.

"Did you hear that?" Bellamy asked. Jovie quickly rushed over to the source of the sound and looked over the edge to see a girl clinging onto the wall of the cliff a good amount down.

"There's a girl down there!" Jovie shouted.

"Please, help me!" The girl screamed.

"Hold on!" Jovie told her.

"Mel?" Sterling called out from next to Jovie.

"You know her?" Murphy asked.

"Shut up, Murphy. She's my friend. We have to do something," Sterling said.

"Help me! Sterling, please!" Mel continued to scream.

"We can't stop," Finn said.

"This isn't a Grounder, Finn. We have a rope," Bellamy said.

"You saw her. She'd never be able to hold on to it. We'd have to lower somebody down. It'll take time that we don't have. I hate this as much as you," Finn replied.

"I know... Okay, I know," Bellamy said. He was hesitant about helping the girl, but this was one of their people.

"We can't just leave her!" Jovie said, stepping forward to get Finn and Bellamy's attention. "You're telling me you're okay with walking away from a girl that needs our help just to possibly find our friends at some Grounder camp we know nothing about?"

"We'll come back for her, okay?" Finn tried to compromise.

"We're here now," Jovie argued. Bellamy sighed.

"We're moving out," he said.

"Bell, come on!" Jovie said. Jovie wanted to find her friends too, but she refused to just leave Mel like that. Jovie looked around to try to figure out what she could do to convince them when she realized something. "Guys, where's Sterling?" Bellamy and Finn looked around to see that he was gone. They all ran over to the edge and leaned over to see Sterling starting to climb down to Mel.

"Wait! Sterling! Hey!" Finn screamed.

"I'm almost there! Once I have her, pull us up!" Sterling called up to them.

"Well, I'd say he's heard one too many of your motivational speeches," Murphy commented. Jovie rolled her eyes. This was not the time to make a joke. There was too much on the line.

"Shut up, Murphy," Bellamy said in annoyance.

Sterling reached over to grab Mel, but the rock crumbled from underneath their feet. Mel was quick to grab onto the small tree branch that was growing out from the wall, and Sterling just dangled there with only the rope to hold him up.

"Alright, hold on! We'll pull you up!" Jovie called down. The second she turned to grab the rope, it snapped out of its knot. She fumbled to grab the rope but it was going too fast. "No!" She screamed as Sterling fell straight down to the ground below. It reminded her too much of how Charlotte had died. "Dammit!" She stood up and put her hands in her face. If they had just helped him when they could have instead of arguing whether to stay or not, this might not have happened.

"Well, it looks like we're taking that break after all, huh?" Murphy said.
