😩

I yawned and laid my head on Summer's shoulder. "You know," I rubbed my eyes and looked up at her. "If they want to make sure your heart is okay then they should let you sleep until at least twelve."

She chuckled and rolled her eyes. "Nes, it's ten right now. That's not early at all."

"It is for me." I mumbled.

She shook her head. "Well go back to sleep, it'll be a minute before it's time for my surgery."

I looked around the hospital room before huffing. Shifting on the bed, I sat up and looked at Summer. "I have too much on my mind."

She looked over at me. "Like?"

"I don't know, I just feel like she's hiding something from me."

Summer hummed. "Why do you think that?"

I shrugged. "She's been acting weird for the past week, like she's scared or something."

She hummed again. "Remind you of anyone?"

I rolled my eyes. "Not at all."

She chuckled slightly and nodded. "Well, what do you think it is?"

"Honestly? Either she cheated or she fell out of love with me."

"Which do you prefer?"

Good question.

"Maybe cheating because...No Summer neither, I don't want neither of them to be true."

"Well maybe one of them is, what will you do?"

"Depends on how I'm feeling that day and how long ago it happened."

She hummed once more.

I chuckled looking at her. "Stoppp."

She raised a brow and smiled slightly. "Stop what?"

"Humming, I feel like your judging me."

"Maybe I am."

I squinted and she squinted back as we basically had a staring contest. As I continued to look at her I couldn't help but run my eyes over her face.

What?

Why haven't I noticed how pale she looks, or how skinny she's gotten? I trailed my eyes down her neck and realized that her collarbones were poking out.

Summer pulled up her gown causing me to snap out of it.

She cleared her throat and looked down. "Well, now you're making me feel like I'm being judged."

I shook my head and reached out grabbing the hand that was clenching her shirt. "Your getting worse?"

She sighed and slowly looked up at me. "It's just the new medicine, makes me lose my appetite."

I scoffed. "Don't fucking bullshit me Summer."

"Okay yes, I'm getting worse but, after this surgery, I should be back to normal."

I scoffed. "Normal? Right, since when is normal popping pills every day in fear that your heart might fucking stop."

She frowned slightly. "Well, thanks for making me feel like shit."

I sighed. "I didn't mean it like- Look I just need you to keep your promise. If your feeling shitty please immediately tell me."

She chuckled and nodded. "Yes, ma'am."

I reached over and squeezed her cheeks causing her lips to pout. I smiled and raised a brow. "I love you."

Summer nodded. "I wuv you voo."

I laughed and leaned closer. "What was that?"

She hummed. "Uhhh I vuink I said I wuv you voo."

I nodded. "That's what I thought but uh, I'm sorry you know I don't speak French."

She groaned and smacked my hand away as I chuckled. "I love you too Vanessa."

I gasped. "You said my full name, I kind of feel some type of way."

She squinted. "A good type?"

I sucked my teeth. "That's for me to know and you to never find out."

She bit her lip and stared at me for a few seconds. "So...How does your girlfriend feel about you acting like this with me?"

"Like what?"

She raised a brow and I chuckled as I shrugged. "I mean, I doubt it's a problem. Y/n is pretty understanding."

"But that's not fair to Y/n."

I nodded. "Essentially what your saying is like, if you had a boyfriend and he asked you to stop hanging with me because he was jealous. You wouldn't do it because we've known each other wayyy longer than you've known him. I won't stop 'acting like this' with you because it wouldn't be fair to you. I've known you long so what's fair to you comes first."

She nodded. "Right well, you should stop being such a hypocrite."

I sighed. "What do you mean Summer?"

She raised a brow. "How many times have you complained to me because Jasmine and Y/n were 'flirting'? Y/n has known Jasmine longer and if that's how they always act since before she knew you then you can't really say anything about it."

"I never said anything about it to her face," I shook my head. "Plus that's different from us."

She chuckled. "How?"

"Because they were in love." I instantly grimaced as the words left my mouth.

Summer hummed and looked away. "Oh of course, then that's completely different."

I grabbed her hand. "No, I didn't mean it like that I meant like...They're still in love."

She slowly looked at me and clenched her jaw.

"Summer I-"

There was a knock at the door and I sighed knowing she would be mad at me for a while.

"Summer, you ready for your surgery?" Dr. Khan asked with a smile on his face.

Summer nodded. "Yup, I'll see you later Vanessa."

"Sum-"

"Can you get off the bed?"

I sighed and slowly got off the bed as two nurses walked in and got Summer ready to leave.

I guess I'll talk to her later.

-

"So Summer, you'll need to be super cautious um, your not doing well."

I looked over at Summer who wouldn't look at me.

Dr. Khan looked at me. "We're going to up the dosage and amount of pills she has to take every week. Summer can not, and I repeat, can not be put under any serious stress or else the results could be fatal and lead to death."

My heart fell as I thought about Summer dying.

"I don't know what's been happening Summer but, your heart is really...Shriveled. You have to be careful before you reach the point of no return."

I nodded. "I'll be sure to help her."

Dr. Khan smiled softly. "I know you will," he cleared his throat and stood. "Well, I'll leave you two to it, I want Summer to stay for a day as usual and Vanessa your free to stay as usual."

"Thank you, Doctor."

He waved and walked out of the room shutting the door behind him.

"You knew?"

She shrugged as she clicked the tv on.

I sighed and stood walking over to her. "Summer, I'm sorry about what I said-"

"Were you not at least in love with me in the past?"

"Of course I was- You know that." I sat next to her.

"So what's different between what we do and what they do?"

I sighed looking down. "I don't know, I mean we've been like this since we first met, I didn't really think the way we act was based off of feelings just...love?"

Summer nodded and looked over at me. "Well, I'm not just like this with everyone."

I glanced at her heart monitor as it started to speed up. "Okay um- Does this stress you out?"

"A lot, yes."

I frowned. "Okay, next topic then."

"No, because that'll stress me out even more if I just keep thinking about it without answers- You don't have feelings for me any more right?"

Do I?

"I...I- Yes, slight feelings."

"And does Y/n know?"

I quickly nodded. "I told her a while back."

"And she told you she definitely has feelings for Jasmine right?"

I nodded again. "Right bu-"

"Then please stop coming to me complaining about Y/n and Jasmine okay?"

I nodded slightly wanting to drop the topic. "Yeah okay."

Summer sighed and ran a hand through her hair. "I swear you three stress me out more than the thought of death- Especially fucking Y/n."

I chuckled. "I'm sure she stresses everyone out so you're not special."

She chuckled and shook her head. "I haven't seen her in a while, I kind of miss her."

I hummed. "So she does have an effect on you too?"

Summer nodded. "If I wasn't in love with you I would definitely be head over heels for Y/n."

I shook my head and smiled softly at how nonchalant she is. "Your really fucking bold."

She shrugged glancing at me. "I mean if I die-"

"Shut the fuck up."

"Geez, don't be fucking rude."

I chuckled. "Are you kidding me?"

We both laughed and I looked down at our hands.

"Since we're on the Y/n topic and I'm being 'bold' as you say," she turned to look at me. "When are you going to tell Y/n that you were-"

"NEVER!" I cleared my throat and shook my head. "Never, I mean I had my chance to tell her but, I waited too long and now I feel like there isn't a point. If I tell her now that'd just ruin things...She'd probably want to break up and I-" I shook my head. "No, it's pointless."

I really don't want to lose Y/n.

"You can't have a relationship with a bunch of secrets." Summer shook her head.

I can if it means protecting our relationship.

I shrugged. "I guess but, like I said earlier I'm pretty sure she's hiding something from me."

Summer scoffed and shook her head. "Both of those 'secrets' are going to come back and bite you two in the ass," she nodded. "Everything in the dark must come to light no matter how hard you try to hide it, someone will always find out."

I gulped. "Well, I'll deal with that problem when the time comes."

"I can't fucking wait."
