《Smile》Eighty eight

I yawned as I walked into Jasmine's house. A smile instantly spread onto my face as I heard my song 'Trust' blasting through the house.
I walked further into the house to see Jasmine dancing around the kitchen as she cleaned.
"HOOD FAME EVERYBODY KNOW MY NAME WHEN I COME THROUGH!" She sang- well yelled along. "BUT DONT NOBODY SCREAM IT LIKE YOU! I WAS HAVING VISIONS WITH YOU-" She spun around with the broom in her hand and jumped when she saw me. She blushed and instantly grabbed her phone pausing the song.
"Second time I caught you lacking because of your blasting music," I chuckled walking towards the island and sitting. "I won't lie though I'm flattered your singing my song."
She shrugged. "Well, of course, I'm your biggest fan." I smiled as she grabbed the dustpan. "I forgot to ask you something last night."
"Yeah?"
She walked over to the garbage can and dumped the trash. "Which song was about me?"
I raised a brow.
"You said one of the songs was about me so which one was it?"
I chuckled and clicked my tongue. "Maybe, possibly, sorta all of them."
She gasped as she sat across from me. "Even 'Trust'?!"
I laughed and nodded. "Don't get flattered those are all old slightly tweaked songs."
"You were writing like that back then?!" She swooned. "If you weren't you, I would totally fall in love."
"Rightttt."
She chuckled and rested her chin on her palm. "Why are you here so early? The twins aren't back yet."
I shrugged. "Maybe I just wanted to spend time with you."
She raised a brow not believing me.
I chuckled. "Look, we're both moving on right?"
She nodded. "Right?"
"Well, I want my woman best friend back. I need a girl to talk to about relationships."
She hummed and looked down at the island. "Anddd what if I wanted to sabotage you."
"You wouldn't do that."
She looked up at me and nodded slightly. "Your right, go ahead. I'm guessing you want advice about Vanessa?"
I nodded. "I'm going to ask her to be my girlfriend today."
Jasmine's mouth gaped open and her eyebrows frowned as she stared at me.
I gulped and shifted under her stare not liking the look she was giving me. "Jazzy?"
She blinked and shook her head before chuckling softly. "Wow."
"What?"
"You know um...I've played you saying that in my head a thousand times before and to finally hear you say it..." She looked up at me and shook her head putting on a fake smile. "What do you need advice on?"
I bit my lip. "Ummm...I-I just want it to be special I guess? I like to think I'm pretty romantic or whatever but, I'm drawing blanks on how I should ask her."
She nodded and hummed. "Personally, asking someone to be your girlfriend shouldn't have to be spectacular or anything. Um, if it were me I would just want you to say a few sweet sentences and then you would ask me to be your girlfriend. We wouldn't have to go on a date or anything."
I nodded. "Well, I already know that, we've talked about how you would want to be asked- even asked to be married, a long time ago."
She squinted. "No way you remember what I said about getting proposed to."
I raised a brow. "We literally pulled a Norbit remember? I snuck into your room with two ring pops and proposed."

She laughed. "You broke your finger and passed out so I had to say "I do" after you woke up in the hospital."
We both laughed and I shook my head. "Oh shit so are we still married?"
Jasmine shook her head. "Not technically since you never said I do."
"Right I didn't say that."
She chuckled as she looked down with a big small on her face.
My smile slowly fell as I realized...I'd probably never say "I do" with Jasmine.
And that's fine...
I cleared my throat. "Asking you to be my girlfriend would be so easy and I could do it perfectly."
She looked up meeting my eyes.
"However, I'm not asking you I'm asking Vanessa so..."
Jasmine cleared her throat and nodded. "Right right-"
"You know if it's too weird I can go ask Quincy-"
"Oh God please don't do that, I'll help."
I chuckled and nodded. "Cool, so what do I do?"
Jasmine thought for a second and then shook her head. "This might not seem helpful but, Vanessa knows you which means she knows what you're comfortable with. If you ask her in a Burger King I'm sure she wouldn't mind because it's you so, just go with your gut. If you feel like you want to do some big gesture then you do that. If you feel like you should just ask her, then you do that. Just be you and I guarantee she won't mind and say yes."
I sighed a nodded. "That did help um, thank you Jazzy."
"That's what friends are for."
-
The door opened and Vanessa chuckled as she quickly reached out and helped me with the many many bags filled with snacks.
We walked into the house and she raised a brow. "What's with all this?"
I shook my head. "Summer here?"
"No, she's doing her yearly visit with her family."
"Yearly?"
"Long story."
I nodded. "Well, let's go...to the living room "
She shrugged and started into the living room as I followed closely behind. Once we got into the living room we threw the bags onto the couch.
Vanessa went to sit and I quickly reach out wrapping my arm around her waist and pulling her into me.
She chuckled and raised a brow. "Yes?"
I smiled down at her as my heart pounded. "Let's build a fort first."
"A fort?"
I nodded. "Go upstairs and grab some covers and pillows while I set up the cushions."
She bit her lip and smiled before nodding. "Okay."
"Okay." I pecked her forehead and slowly let go of her as she squinted at me before starting out of the living room.
I wiped my sweaty palms onto my jeans as I gulped.
Why was I so nervous? I know Vanessa wouldn't reject me so...I don't know.
I kicked off my shoes and set them to the side. Then I moved the bags over and grabbed the cushions as I started to set them up.
Eventually, Vanessa came back downstairs and chuckled. "You fucking big kid."
I chuckled and took the pile from her arms before throwing them onto the ground. I grabbed Vanessa's hand and walked to the center of the living room before turning her to face the cushions.
"Okay, today your the Queen of this kingdom so...How does your castle look?"
She glanced over her shoulder at me and smiled softly. "Well," she looked back at the cushions. "A Queen deserves a big castle right?"

I nodded. "Definitely."
"Then we better use every cushion, pillow, and cover in this damn house."
I whooped. "Let's get to work then."
-
Vanessa laughed as we laid back under the covers. I clicked the remote turning the Christmas lights on.
"I'm serious, this wasn't my brightest idea. There could be a serial killer sneaking up on us because we're trapped under these damn covers."
Vanessa shook her head and shrugged. "Well if we get murder at least..."
I raised a brow waiting for her to continue.
She chuckled. "I was trying to be positive but I literally have nothing."
I rolled my eyes. "Dummy," I shifted in my spot and held my arms open. "Come here."
She scooted over to me and laid her back against my chest. I wrapped my arms around her neck and rested my chin on her shoulder.
"You know I love you right?"
She nodded and reached up grabbing my arm. "Yeah, I love you too."
I nodded. "You know this whole relationship thing for me is super complicated. It's taken a long ass time and I'm just now realizing that I need to make up my mind because all this jumping back and forth shit isn't it. Now you know about Jasmine and I, you know that she's rejected me. I don't want to ask you to be mines and have you think that I'd leave you for her at the first chance I get."
She turned her head and met my eyes.
"I need you to know that you aren't a rebound or whatever you're...you're my realization I guess? You're the one I decided to be with after realizing that I don't deserve to waste my time waiting for a girl who isn't ready to be with me. Moral of the story, I want you to know that I will be the best girlfriend ever and I won't hurt you."
She tilted her head. "Girlfriend?"
Dammit.
I groaned. "Fuckkkk, I had this whole speech planned out in my head and I forgot to fucking ask you to be my girlfriend."
She chuckled and turned around still holding eye contact. "Well?"
I smiled softly. "Vanessa Moe, if this is what you want, will you be my girlfriend?"
Vanessa smiled and cupped my cheeks leaning in as she kissed me softly. My heart fluttered as I reached forward and pulled her to straddle my waist.
She pulled away with a big smile and nodded. "I would love to be your girlfriend."
"Of course you would."
She rolled her eyes and leaned down pecking my lips once more.
"Well girlfriend, you ready for our first surprise?"
She hummed.
"We have a double date with Jasmine and her "boyfriend" tomorrow."
"Oh, oka- WHAT?!"
I grimaced. "Surprise!"
-
All four of us were now sat at a booth in IHOP.
We were actually having a good time talking and joking.
I expected this to be awkward as fuck but, I'm cool.
"Did you guys know that IHOP means International House of Pancakes?" I raised a brow.
Vanessa rolled her eyes. "Nooo really?"
I smacked my lips as Jasmine leaned forward. "How old are you again."
Rain shook his head and cut in. "Bro don't worry this is news to me too."
I nodded. "Thank you, us men have to stick together."
"You're not a man." Vanessa said.
I hummed. "Well, us humans with dicks have to stick together."
Rain nodded and held out his hand for a high five. "Definitely."
I high fived him as the girls chuckled. I threw my arm over Vanessa's shoulder and laid my head on her shoulder as we looked at the menu I held.
"Want to be cute and share some waffles?"
She scoffed. "That won't fill me up."
She looked down at me and I met her eyes raising a brow. "I know some-"
"Don't you-"
"Something that can-"
"Y/n-"
"Fill you up."
Rain laughed and Vanessa rolled her eyes smiling.
"Get off of me you horndog."
"Make me, no balls."
She squeezed my cheeks. "Your right."
My eyes widened. "Wow...I didn't expect that, what do I say now?"
She chuckled. "Exactly."
I gasped and sat up straight. "Ouch, she got me."
Rain nodded. "You fell for it."
I looked over at Jasmine who was looking down at her menu.
Rain looked over at her and leaned down whispering something into her ear. She instantly smiled brightly and turned her head making her nose bump against his.
I smiled softly and looked back down at the menu.
At least she's found someone other than me...Ugh fml.
"So are you two together or..." Vanessa looked between Jasmine and Rain.
Jasmine shook her head. "We're not boyfriend and girlfriend if that's what you mean."
Rain nodded. "What about you two?"
"Ew, I'd never date her." I shook my head still looking at the menu.
"Right we definitely didn't get into a relationship yesterday."
I looked up just as Jasmine did. "Oh, you did it?"
I nodded and she hummed before reaching over and giving me a high five.
"Thanks, Jazzy."
She smiled and nodded before laying her head on Rain's shoulder.
I looked over at Vanessa who was looking down at her phone.
Sorry Quincy, I think your ship has...stopped sailing.
"So Rain, how was your audition?" I raised a brow meeting his eyes.
He nodded and smiled softly. "It was actually pretty good, thanks for asking."
Why is this asshole so nice? I really don't have a reason not to like him huh?
I glanced at Jasmine who quickly looked away from me.
"Um V, how's Summer?" Jasmine cleared her throat.
Vanessa looked up and nodded. "She's okay, I mean as good as she can be you know."
"Right."
We all sat in the booth in silence.
What happened? The conversations were flowing and now...Where the hell is the waitress?
"Well I have to pee so," I scooted out the booth. "I'll be back-"
"I'll come with," Rain stood. "Kill two birds with one stone right?"
I chuckled slightly. "Right yeah, let's go."
We both started to the bathroom and once we got in Rain hummed. "Is it just me or is there some tension?"
I shrugged deciding I didn't have to pee anymore. I walked over to the sink and leaned back as he walked over to the urinal. "Is there really?"
He chuckled as he started to do his business. "Didn't you and Jasmine start to date after I...yeah didn't you?"
So he regrets cheating? He fucking better.
"Um no, we didn't date per se- I mean we went on a few 'dates' but because Jasmine is so stubborn she didn't call them dates. Also, I was a pussy so I never asked her to be my girlfriend."
He chuckled as he flushed and zipped up his pants. "Missed opportunity but, man tell me about it she is stubborn as hell," he walked over to the sink and turned it on as he started to wash his hands. "She won't even let me sleep over."
I nodded. "Well granted we do have two babies so...I don't know maybe she just doesn't-"
"Yeah no no no I completely understand that I just mean when the babies aren't there."
I chuckled and nodded. "Ohh right yeah well, maybe you need to build up more trust."
"Definitely," he turned off the sink and looked at me. "So do you two still have something going on-"
"Oh no, I um- I'm with Vanessa now."
He quickly nodded. "Yeah but, that doesn't mean you can't still have feelings for her right?"
I hummed and shrugged. "Well yeah, I do still have feelings for her."
He nodded. "Your girlfriend know?"
"Definitely."
He hummed. "So does that mean I have some competition or not?"
I chuckled. "Considering the fact that she rejected me a bunch of times I'll say your good."
He let out a sigh of relief. "Well thank God," he turned and walked to the door pulling it open. "With the way she looks at you, I don't think I'd win."
He walked out and I frowned slightly as I ran my hand through my hair. "That was the most aggressive, non-aggressive conversation I ever had."
I walked out the bathroom and back to the booth. Sitting down I noticed the menus were gone. "You order for me?"
Vanessa rested her cheek on her palm and shook her head. "I was going to but, Jasmine handled it. I didn't know you liked onions in your eggs."
I chuckled and glanced at Jasmine before shrugging. "Only in my eggs, anything else is gross."
Jasmine scoffed. "Did you also know that she prefers shredded cheese over square cheese?"
Vanessa frowned. "It's the same thing though."
"No, it's not." I shook my head.
"It's the consistency and the way the cheese is spread out." Jasmine and I said at the same time.
I glared at her. "Nobody asked you."
She raised her hands. "My bad G."
I smiled softly and looked over at Vanessa who was watching both of us.
I leaned down. "Jealous?"
She scoffed. "Of?"
I shrugged. "Your right, no need to be jealous since you're my girlfriend."
She smiled softly and rolled her eyes. "Nice one."
"I try."
