《Prince's Assassin Mate ✔》Chapter 52

"What are you so engrossed in?" Aiden inquired as he sat on the lounge chair next to Seraphina. She raised her head in surprise when she heard his voice.
"When did you return?" With a smile, she asked. He loosened his tie and sat down on the chair.
"Just a few moments ago. What are you reading?" He questioned, leaning in to read the title of the book she held in her hand.
"The history of Drinealia and Auhesraivia. You know, it was very harmonious back then." She sighed and closed the book.
"What do you mean?"
"What I mean is...come in!" When someone knocked on the door, she paused to let them in.
Freya walked in with a cheerful smile and a tray in her hand. When she saw Aiden, her eyes widened in shock, and she instantaneously bowed her head. Seraphina had persuaded Freya not to curtsey to her, and Freya had agreed.
"Your Highnesses!" Seraphina gladly accepted the mug she offered.
"Thank you!" Seraphina thanked her, and Freya walked out, head bowed. She took a sip, and Aiden asked,
"You were saying?" She nodded her head and began to speak,
"Back when my father was still a prince, the Demons, Wolves, and most other supernaturals were in conflict with one another. Demons and Wolves were at peace only when he met my mother and they mated. They also signed treaties with other realms, to ensure that everyone could live in peace. The warriors did not have to die, and young mates did not have to lose their soulmate to an untimely passing." Aiden nodded as she finished speaking.
"Yes, they were honorable rulers. It was the only time when both of our realms were at peace."
"After their deaths, Drinealia and Auhesraivia descended into anarchy. And it took years of more conflicts to get to where we are now." She sighed, her gaze fixed on the mug in her hand. Aiden took her hands in his and compelled her to look at him.
"Tell me what's bothering you. Tell me." He urged, but she remained silent.
"No more hiding, remember? Please tell me, love." He urged again, and she sighed.
"It's just...I'm afraid I'll ruin the harmony. What if I wreak even more havoc? More fatalities? What if I'm not a good ruler?" With frenzied eyes, she inquired.
"Conflicts and untimely deaths are inevitable; there isn't much we can do," he curdled her face and kissed her forehead. "But we can do our best to keep the peace and protect our people. And you'll be fantastic at ruling our Kingdom, and I'll always be by your side. No matter the obstacles, we will overcome them together." He smiled and his words calmed down the turmoil inside her. She smiled at him and hugged him rigidly. It's truly incredible how just a few reassuring words can transiently make someone forget their worries.
"Yes, I'll get started on the preparations!" Aiden hung up the phone, his gaze fixed on his mate, who had been struggling mightily to keep her shift under control. Even though she could control her lycan shift, she was still having a tough time controlling and shifting into her Demon. He noticed Emmerich nearing and standing beside him out of the corner of his eye.

"I see you haven't been training her today." Aiden attempted to strike up a conversation, but the Demon beside him remained deafeningly silent. After a brief pause, Aiden spoke again.
"May I ask you a question?"
"You just did." The Demon grimaced and Aiden sighed.
"I never thought a hybrid existed, but I was proven wrong when I learned about Queen Evangeline. She was a demon-angel hybrid, she could carry the two genetic variants, that was possible. But how did Seraphina end up inheriting all three types of Lycan, Demon, and Angel? I had no idea it was possible!" He stared at the demon, but he didn't respond, instead snarling because Aiden had been staring at him for too long. Aiden sighed again and averted his gaze.
Aiden took a deep breath and, after a brief silence, began speaking courteously.
"I'm quite certain you've grunges over me for what I did. And I apologize that you had to witness our interaction for the first time while we were fighting. I was a fool to believe something I shouldn't have, and I'm very remorseful for that. I'm doing my best to treat her like the queen she is and to lavish her with affection. We're doing our utmost to make work." Emmerich could see the sincerity in his words, so he turned to his Granddaughter and began speaking slowly after a while.
"When I met my Queen Armaita and she conceived my heir, we assumed that my genetics would dominate and the heir would be a demon. It was unheard of at that time for a child to inherit the mother's genetics if the father had superior ascendancy by birth. Evangelina showed signs of being a demon when she was born, but as she grew older, Armaita and I noticed changes and differences. She had her genetics too. I had neglected the fact that Armaita was Araqiel's firstborn and the heir to the Angel realm on Earth. Our genetics couldn't dominate each other, so they fused, making Evangelina a hybrid. We, too, had no idea Seraphina could inherit all three; we assumed she'd only obtain two or less. She did, however, inherit her mother's genetics, and her body bound the Lycan, demon, and angel." He finished explaining, and Aiden looked at him in disbelief.
"But she only has Cora?"
"As I previously stated, all three are intricately bound. She, like her mother, can shift into all three at the same time. But first, she must seize control of all three forms." Emmerich said as he extended his legs to move towards his granddaughter.
"My parents will be here later today to talk about the coronation." From behind, Aiden said, and Emmerich nodded as he walked towards Seraphina. She smiled at her grandfather as she turned her head to greet him. With a smile on his face, Aiden's eyes followed her every motion. Feeling his gaze on her, she turned her eyes to him and smiled. She went on to train, and he left to attend to his duties.
Aiden sat on his swivel chair behind the piles of paperwork. He still had a lot to do even after working nonstop for hours.
"Come in!" As someone knocked on the door, his gruff voice said, Seraphina walked in with a smile on her lips as the doors were pushed open. As soon as he saw her, his face lit up.

"Come here," he urged softly, and she approached him. Pulling her on his lap, he captured her lips in a persisting kiss. Her hands were draped over his neck, and he had a firm grip on her waist. He breathed a sigh of relief as he drew her closer into his arms.
"You seem to be overworked and exhausted." Her muffled voice said.
"Yes, I am."
"You should take a break."
"I will, once I finish this." She lifted her head as he spoke.
"Let me help you," she said as her eyes scanned the piles of paperwork.
"No, let it be. You must be exhausted after hours of training. You should get some rest." He shook his head.
"I'm fine, let me assist you so we can finish this quickly and we can nap together later." She leaps from his lap and walks around the table, taking a seat directly in front of him. He smiles as she takes a stack of paper and begins to read the content; he, too, returns to work.
"And done!" She smiled as she placed the last piece of paper on the table.
"I told you it would be easy if I assisted." She said this while turning her gaze to the male resting comfortably on the couch. After a while, they had moved to his office's large couch. Aiden's suit jacket lay on the couch handle, the top few buttons of his shirt undone, his hair tousled, and his eyes fatigued.
"Yes, you did, thank you very much, love." He kissed her cheek before wrapping his arms around her waist and resting his head on her shoulder, sighing and he closed his eyes.
"I heard your parents are coming?" He nodded when she asked. She remained silent for a few moments as she pondered her thoughts.
"Remember how I mentioned how peaceful our kingdoms were a few centuries ago?" He lifted his head to look at her, as she said.
"Yes?"
"I believe I know why, and I wish to restore peace. However, I'm not sure if what I'm thinking is justified. I'm not sure if the decision I'll be proposing today will be welcomed. Whether or not it will benefit our people." She stared at him as she said. In a sweet innocent kiss, he captured her lips.
"I am always here for you, no matter what decision you make. I will always support you and stand by you." He smiled and she pressed her lips on his.
"Let's go, my parents should be here any moment now!" He said as he pulled back. She smiled and they got off of the couch and walked out of the door.
"Your Highness!" He stopped when he heard Liam calling him. He frowned as he turned around to face him.
"There is something you need to know!"
"Anything wrong?" Seraphina asked.
"You go get dressed, I'll be right back." Aiden kissed her forehead and she nodded her head. They walked into Aiden's office as Seraphina left towards their chamber.
"Tell me, Liam. What is it?"
"Zedan is dead!"
"The introduction ceremony, I believe, should take place next week, followed by the coronation the following week. We can't afford to wait any longer." King Bruce responded curtly. They'd arrived about an hour before, and everyone was seated in the packhouse's conference hall. The King and Queen sat at the head of the table, with Seraphina and Aiden to their right, and the Beta and Gamma couples beside them. The King of Demon, dressed in his Royal Mantle and Crown, sat to the left.
"It would be difficult to complete all of the preparations in such a short period of time, but I believe we can pull it off." They nodded as Beta Nicholas said.
"So that settles it. We will inform the pack and Auhesraivia about this after this meeting." King Bruce concluded the meeting and was about to stand up when Seraphina meddled.
"I would like to say something." Bruce sat down and nodded his head, allowing her to express her thoughts. Emmerich and the others looked at her, perplexed. She gave Aiden a brief glance, and he smiled and encouraged her to express herself.
"Over the years, our Kingdoms have been through many conflicts and wars, and we have lost many brave warriors and innocent citizens. Even though there is some peace now, Drinealia still has many enemies, and the people must live every day in fear of an attack. Auhesraivia also lives in constant fear of being attacked. After all, they had done, this was not how my parents had envisioned us living. They spent the majority of their lives working to ensure freedom and harmony. They had convinced majority of the realms to sign a treaty so that the people could live in peace and their children could grow up to have a brighter future. Their sole goal in life was to provide tranquility and a beautiful life for future generations. But their assassination, their noble goal was ended too and the realms fell apart, fighting each other and causing more bloodshed. I had fled because I was cowered, and let my parents down. But now I wish to establish peace, I wish to achieve what my parents died for. And I'd like to begin in the same way that my parents did." She paused and glanced at the faces sitting around the table. Taking a deep breath she said,
"I wish to bind the Demons and Wolves. I wish to bind Drinealia and Auhesraivia together as one." Emmerich stared at Seraphina with proud eyes. He stood up, his chest puffed with pride,
"Mano Princesė..." his face fell, and the demon within him stirred awake at the evil desires saturating the air. He snarled as he hurled the massive table towards the door, and at that very moment, a massive explosion ripped through the wall on the side of the main door of the conference hall. They all ducked in an attempt to avoid the impact. The windows' panes shattered, and they heard a growling voice say,
"After all, I've done over the centuries, you believe you can destroy my life's work just like that?"

Saga of Fallen Kings, Book I: The Revenant Prince
The Philosopher King once conquered the known world, his power seemingly unlimited and his armies inexhaustible. Since that time his might has slowly unravelled, and his once steadfast empire has begun to crack, splinter and devour itself. In the isolated Southern Realms, where even magic has abandoned them, none of that matters. For years it has been filled with warring kingdoms, where as many kings die to the blade as to old age, and constant battles tear apart the land. When one such kingdom invades its old enemy, the King and his heir, Prince Caden, are killed. Unable to accept the loss of his family Prince Arian is broken, and when the Philosopher King stretches out his hand in aid, Arian takes it without a second thought. When Caden wakes from death, he's different. His eyes and soul have changed, and he finds a world filled with friends who no longer trust he's even human. Suddenly thrust onto the throne and indebted to the Philosopher King, Caden has no choice but to keep going - he must finish what his father started, and try to survive the machinations of the figure who now owns his fealty. Meanwhile something beyond death stirs for him, desiring nothing more than to drag him back into its embrace. Author's Note: This story used to be known as "A King of his Own", but after some consideration I have decided to rebrand it. The first reason is that I was growing increasingly dissatisfied with the title. The second is that I have come increasingly to view this story as a 'saga' containing multiple 'books' rather than one long, continuous publication, and as I did so I realized that as I was quickly getting to a point in the story where I wanted the first 'book' to end. This doesn't mean I'm going back on the things I said below - they're just going to continue in the next book of the Saga of Fallen Kings. :) Also, be aware that I do plan to edit this at some point. Though I take care to squash out any obvious errors when I proof-read, and do simple edits in that process, at some point I'm almost certainly going to do large edits that might significantly change parts of the story. Old author's notes: This started as a completely random writing session. There was no purpose or direction, but as I kept typing an entire world began to form in my mind that I knew I had to write about. My plan is to turn this story into a veritable medieval fantasy epic that spans an entire world, follows multiple character and storylines, and takes place over many years. The story has quite a grounded, almost 'realistic' start, but many more fantastical elements will be introduced, expanded upon and become central to the narrative. I have ideas for this story that make me genuinely excited and I hope you enjoy my work as much as I enjoy writing it, and join me on what will hopefully become a truly massive fantasy epic. If you do enjoy this story please consider following, rating and leaving a review. I'm also happy to answer any questions or comments you have.
