Chapter 6:
I was finally getting settled into Alex's three story mansion. It had been two weeksish since we had arrived and I found I was fitting in perfectly. I personally loved it here. Everyone was so nice and welcoming and for such a big pack they were like a huge family. I also found that I slipped into Luna duties just as well. Alex even said it was like I was born to be a Luna. As for Alex and I, we couldn't be closer either.
"Luna," A woman, who was helping in our house, called.
"In here, Una!" The old woman shuffled into the kitchen where I was making a pie.
"The Alpha wants you to meet him in the clearing by the waterfall. He said he had a picnic he wanted to take you on?"
"Oh! Thanks Una. You don't mind finishing my pie, do you?"
"Anything for you, darling." She kissed my forehead. "Now, you'd better hurry up." I laughed. She was so motherly when it came to me.
I quickly changed into my snow white wolf and ran all the way across our territory to a waterfall on the eastern edge of our pack lands. It was where Alex and I normally came to get away from the pack when we needed our space. It was right near the border so normally only the patrol went there. When I arrived Alex was standing there. He had a huge grin on his face and in one hand he held a picnic basket and in the other, he held a blanket. I changed behind a tree and ran to join him. He picked me up and spun me around with a laugh.
"Ohhhh...I missed you." He murmured into my brown hair.
"I missed you too."
"You hungry? I made all of your favorites."
"Of course I'm hungry!" I laughed. We both sat down at the edge of the water and just enjoyed each other's company. As we lay there I decided that I wanted to go for a run and Alex was eager to comply. It'd be the first time we've let our wolves out together and Saira had been itching to be introduced. I turned into my beautiful white wolf and he shifted into his large black one. They sniffed each other for a little be and circled checking each other out.
"Dang, you're hot!" Alex mind linked me. I gave a wolf smile.
"Yeah, you're not so bad yourself." I nodded. Then I quickly pushed my body into his setting him off balance and into the pond the waterfall poured into, Saira and I laughed at them.
"Oh, you are going to pay for that." He growled playfully, and we played a game of chase for a good three hours.
Finally, when we both had tired out, we walked back to the lake. Saira wasn't ready to go yet so I just laid down in my wolf form. Alex's wolf, Quill, came over and laid by our side and put his head on our back. We sighed. It was so intimate and loving that I just couldn't help but lean into him. Then he lifted his head and sniffed the air, his head snapped to me.
"Shit!" He yelled through our mind link.
"What?"
"How long has it been since I marked you?" His eyes turned black.
"What?"
"Baila! How long has it been since I marked you?"

"I don't know, two weeks?"
"Shit!" He cursed again.
"What?!?"
"Baila, you're in heat."
My eyes went wide. All of a sudden, growling was heard to our left. Alex placed his body on top of mine. I was still laying down but now he stood, towering over my wolf's body. I could hear him call for his beta, Jacob, and other fighters. He was specific about them needing to be mated aside from Jacob, who could control himself. He told them all what was going on and where we were. Just as he finished mind linking them, four brown wolves came out of the forest and into the clearing.
"Baila. I need you to stay quiet. Trust me, I won't let anything happen to you." Alex promised me.
"Okay,"
Alex eyed the wolves carefully before he let out a growl to warn them he wasn't happy. They were a lot smaller then him and it was obvious by their smell that they were rogues--wolves that didn't belong to any pact. They normally did whatever they wanted and took whatever they wanted. That posed a huge problem because right now, they wanted me. The center wolf shifted and pulled on a pair of shorts.
"It seems like we have an unmated female in heat boys...." They all grinned in their wolf forms. One of them was even drooling at my scent. Alex growled again when they took a step forward. "Oh, come now Alpha Alexander. Surely, you can share?" We heard Jacob and the others approach behind Alex, who shifted and pulled on some shorts.
"No. I don't share anything. Furthermore, you're trespassing on my territory. I won't hesitate to have you killed."
"Well, aren't you welcoming. We just came for that pretty little wolf with the great scent. She can't be much to you, your mate rejected you and your sister's off and married, we hear."
"Jacob?" Jacob walked up beside him, still in wolf form. "I'm taking Baila home. Take care of these rats would you?" Jacob nodded with a smile. Alex changed into his wolf once more, shredding the shorts, as he walked up to me. He pushed me up and in the direction of the house.
"Run. NOW!" He growled through the mind link. "We don't know how many wolves can smell you right now." I ran in the direction of the mansion and two mated wolves from the pack took up positions on my left and just behind my while Alex stayed to my right, the opposite direction the wind was blowing. However, he still kept true to his promise and didn't leave my side once, until we got home. We both changed behind trees and he came out, slightly panting. I knew he was struggling. His eyes were pitch black and every now and then he'd sniff the air and shake his head violently. He couldn't hold the urge to mate me for much longer.
I felt it too. My body burned for him. It craved his touch and my wolf was screaming at me to just let him have us. My head throbbed and it didn't take a brain surgeon to tell me what would make it stop. I was getting sweaty and warm from my heat and I looked at my struggling mate to see he wasn't faring much better.
"Baila, you need to choose now. If you aren't ready to mate then I need to leave. I don't want to do something we'll both regret and have you end up hating me." He whimpered. It was causing him physical pain to keep his wolf back.

"Alex. I'm not ready to be pregnant. We're both Alphas decedents. The odds are really high that I will be."
"Baila, no you won't. There are ways to prevent that from happening." I nodded.
"Okay."
"Okay?"
I ran over to him and put my lips on his. I jumped up and he caught my legs, wrapping them around his waist as he carried us into the house, shutting the front door. Then he ran up to our bedroom. It took him less than three seconds to get my clothes off and me less that five to get his. He pushed me down onto the bed and muttered something about waiting way too long for this.

I woke up the next morning and the first thing I felt was soreness. Everything was sore, especially the area in between my legs. I groaned and rolled over, snuggling up to Alex. He had a cheeky grin on his face. I knew he was thinking about last night, I could feel his happiness coming through the bond. I smiled at him. He'd probably been waiting for that since his first mate. I gently put my lips to his and kissed him, it took him a second but finally, he kissed me back.
"Mmmm...best way to wake up in the world."
"Good." I grinned, and leaned back. My grin turned to a cringe quickly when I moved.
"How do you feel?" He asked, concerned.
"I'm sore, that's for sure."
"I'm sorry..." He apologised. I smiled.
"It's not your fault."
"Baila, do I need to explain it to you?"
"No, if it's something I wanted then it's not your fault."
"Fine."
"But there is something you can do to help me." His face perked up.
"Anything!"
"Can you run me a bath?"
"Yeah, I'll start the tub. Then, I'll go get that medicine for you."
"What medicine?"
"You said you didn't want pups right now. I'm respecting your decision. They make a medicine that the female can take that prevents her from getting pregnant for a week. It should cover your whole heat, should we decide to...mate again." He said with a goofy grin. I smiled and started crying. Quickly, I threw my hands over my face, I didn't want him to see. To late. "Baila, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you cry, what did I say? I swear I didn't mean to offend you, it's completely your decision when we have pups. I don't mind waiting for you. Hell, I'd wait for you forever if that's what you needed." He leaned over me and uncovered my face. "Please, baby, tell me what's wrong."
"Oh gosh, absolutely nothing." I replied, smiling. He looked at me confused. "How did I get so lucky?"
"Pardon me?"
"You are the poster child for perfect mates, Alex. You're patient, you don't mind waiting, you take care of me, you respect me, you love me. How did I get so lucky?"
"Because, you're just as perfect." He said kissing my nose. I giggled. He got up and pulled on his discarded boxers from the night before. "I'll go run you that bath. I would be an awful mate if I let you sit there sore." He chuckled.
"You're something else, aren't you."
"Just for you."
He drew me the bath and even helped me get into it. Then he went down to make us both breakfast. As I sat there I couldn't help but think about my home. I'd have to go visit them with Alex soon. Let my parents know that I'm alright. I can't wait to see Kelsey again. Let her and Alex meet. Then I thought of her being mateless. She was eighteen going on nineteen and she still hadn't found her mate. I was worried for her. Suddenly, going home didn't sound like such a good idea. I didn't want to rub my mate in her face.
"Breakfast is served." Alex walked in with a cart full of food.
"Sweetie, I doubt we could eat this all."
"So, leftovers." He laughed. Alex set up a floating tray in the huge bathtub and started undressing.
"What are you doing?" He climbed into my hot bath on the other side of the tray.
"I've always wanted to do this." The bubbles gathered around him as well and I almost started drooling then and there.
"What, eat in the bathtub?"
"No. I wanted to eat breakfast with my mate, after making love all night, in the bathtub." I laughed which caused waves of soap to move the tray. "Woman, do not get soap in my food!" Alex joked. I smirked.
"You're lucky this looks so good, or I would."
We both dug into the food into comfortable conversation. Every once in a while Alex would drain the tub a little and put fresh warm water into it. We must have sat there for hours just eating breakfast and talking. It wasn't until he grabbed the last plate on the cart that we both fell into an uncomfortable silence. On the plate sat a large white pill and a slightly smaller blue one. I looked up at him with uncertainty.
"I told you it'd be your choice. I don't want you to have to deal with anything you're not ready for." I nodded, knowing he met what he said.
"Why are there two?"
"You looked really unsure when we were talking in the bedroom, so I had the pack doctor bring over some different options. The larger white one is what I was telling you about. That will work for the whole week. That way we don't have to worry about it, or think about you needing to take it if we," my face blushed. Get it together Baila, you just slept with him and are now in the bath together. "well yeah you know." he finished, sensing my insecurity. "The blue one is a single day option. I thought since you weren't so sure, I didn't know if that meant you wouldn't mind having a pup right now or trying for one later in the week. I wasn't sure."
"What would you want?"
"Baila," He touched me cheek. "This isn't about what I want. This is about what you want."
"Please Alex?"
"I don't want you to make the decision just to make me happy."
"Just tell me."
"I want what every male wolf wants. I want a few pups to carrying on what I've built. However, I also want what every loving, respectful mate wants. I want my mate to be happy, and if she doesn't want a pup right now then that's okay. There is nothing but time." I nodded. Artemis's voice came into my head at that moment. It surprised me a bit but I still heard her out.
Just remember, there aren't any promises you're pregnant right now anyway. In fact I can tell you you aren't from this try right now. Don't worry about it, let the fates handle it and just work with it naturally. I smiled, she was right.
"Wolf?"
"No, an old friend."
By the way, keep the ring. You might find, it comes in handy when you need to travel. She laughed.
Thank you,
Anything for you, Baila. You save a lot of people. You deserve it.
I nodded. Then I took the plate from Alex. He looked at me expectantly to see which pill I would take. Instead, I just slid the pills into my glass of water. We both watched as the pills evaporated in the glass. When they were gone I looked up at him with a grin.
"What does this mean?"
"I decided to let the fates decide. According to Artemis, I'm not pregnant off of this try." He looked down, slightly disappointed. I laughed and picked up his chin. "The week isn't over Alex." This brought a knowing smile to his face. "On one condition."
"What?"
"We go visit my family next week."
"Baila, that's two weeks that we'd be there."
"No, Artemis gave me this ring and said I could keep it. It helps me transport myself and two others anywhere in the country I want to go."
"Nifty."
"So do we have a deal?"
"I'd take you either way." He joked with the double meaning. I bit my lip. He was an interesting mate, that was for sure.
