Flashback
After practice Jennie waved goodbye to her teammates. She was meeting Irene by her car for their ritual Friday dinner. It was their thing. As she passed through the front door she realized that she forgot her homework in her locker. She peeked out to the parking lot to check if her girlfriend was already there waiting. Irene hated waiting. When she saw no sign of the girl she decided to run to her locker quickly to retrieve the assignment.
Jennie wore a smile on her face just thinking about the dinner with Irene. The couple hasn't been getting along lately to the point where Jennie had thought about the possibility of the other girl cheating on her. She shrugged it off and believed that Irene would never do that to her.
"Come over..." Jennie heard muffled voices as she rounded the corner to her locker.
"I can't. I have to go to dinner with my girlfriend." A soft murmur responded. The volleyball player froze in her tracks when she recognized that voice. She pressed her body against the wall and craned her head to inspect the voices. Jennie clenched her jaw when she saw her girlfriend pinned on the wall her legs wrapped around another girl, which she identified to be Seulgi.
Seulgi was an upperclassman that played soccer for their school. Jennie knew this because she had heard the girl's name in the morning announcements as the MVP of most games. She had also seen Irene and the cheerleaders hang around with her during school hours. She turned her head quickly and settled on eavesdropping.
"What was her name?" Seulgi snorted.
"Jennie." Irene shook her head in disapproval. "She's probably waiting for me right now."
"Good. Make her wait." Jennie choked on her own spit as she tried to hold down a sob. She wanted to stay strong but her tear streaked face would beg the differ.
"I have to go..." Irene whined.
"No." The soccer player said firmly. There was silence in the air followed by a series of sloppy kiss noises and heavy moans. Jennie couldn't bear to hear anymore and established that her homework was not so important anymore.
-
"Babe, are you listening to me?" Irene waved her hand in front of her girlfriend, who had seemed to zone out. Jennie lifted her gaze to meet the cheerleader's. "I said I'm going to have to cancel tonight's dinner plans. I know it's kind off our thing but I am so swamped with-"
"That's fine. You don't have to explain." Jennie interrupted flashing a small smile at the girl. Irene grinned widely and pecked her cheek, mumbling 'i love you' before turning back to talk to her friend in their table. The volleyball player bowed her head and played with her fries.
Friday dinners weren't their thing anymore, every since the day she had witnessed her girlfriend kiss another during sophomore year. Either Jennie or Irene would make up an excuse to skip the day.
"JEN!" Lisa shouted from across the lunch hall, catching Jennie's attention. "COME SIT WITH US!"
Jennie turned to Irene for approval that happily nodded and encouraged the girl to go. She gave her a chaste kiss on the lips before picking her tray up and walking over to her team.
"About time." Yeri muttered under her breath as Jennie planted herself on the seat next to her. "We were getting worried. Thought you abandoned us, Captain."
Earlier that week, their coach had announced the team captains for the season. One being Jennie and the other was none better than Jisoo. It was clear both girls had leadership qualities and the fact that they worked well together. It was inevitable. All the girls knew it would be them but nonetheless still acted surprise and cheered for the two girls.

Lisa threw a fry at Jennie. "Talk to us, Jen. Give us the latest gossip your girlfriend had shared with you."
The captain rolled her eyes and shook her head. "You guys are awful. As if listening to Irene and her team of leeches isn't bad enough, I have to tell it to you guys."
"That's what are captains for." Yeri smiled smugly. Lisa chuckled and gave her teammate a high five.
"Nayeon just asked out Jisoo!" Rosé squealed as she threw herself in the seat next to Lisa.
"NO WAY!" Lisa shrieked in excitement. "WHERE! WHEN! HOW?!"
Rosé pointed towards the doorway where Jisoo and Nayeon stood giggling about something. Lisa and Yeri brought their hands to cup their mouth to muffle their screaming. The duo always rooted for them ever since freshman year but Nayeon was to timid to make a move and Jisoo was too love struck with her teammate.
Jennie on the other hand glared at the scene unfolding. Nayeon smiled at Jisoo adoringly while the other girl flipped her hair on one side. Her blood boiled as her ears blew out steam. It wasn't enough that a girl was interested in Jisoo but she also had to be a soccer player.
"Wait, wait. Rosé what did Jisoo say?" Yeri turned her attention back to her tallest teammate.
Rosé's face dropped. "She uh... she said she would think about it."
"WHAT? WHY?" Lisa grabbed Rosé's shoulders and shook the poor girl. "WHY!"
"Lisa, I don't know! Stop shaking me!" The girl groaned, her head feeling dizzy. She massaged her temples and glanced back at the brown-eyed girl who was slowly making her way to the table. "Oh shit, wait here she comes! Act cool guys."
The four girls all bowed their heads and pretended to eat their lunches. Jisoo wrinkled her eyebrows together as she saw through her teammates acts. Shaking her head she walked around the table and plopped herself next to Jennie.
"Fancy meeting you here, Tiger." Jisoo poked her co-captain by her side.
Jennie flinched but held back a giggle. She was suppose to be mad at Jisoo and no way her teammate will win her over with her charm.
"Chu, a little birdy told us that Nayeon asked you on a daaaaateee." Yeri sang, moving closer to Jennie to examine Jisoo's face.
"And by that little birdy, do you mean Rosé over there." Jisoo chuckled as she took out the contents in her lunch bag. She didn't trust the school lunch system so she packed lunch everyday. It was healthier and she knows what was in it.
"Spill the beans, Chu." Lisa leaned in, a smug smile drawn on her face. The pale skinned girl sighed dramatically and locked eyes with the taller girl.
"Nayeon did." She hummed.
"And..." Yeri encouraged.
"And I said I'll think about it." Jisoo replied, side-eyeing her teammate sitting next to her. She noticed that Jennie had been awfully quiet since she had sat down. "You okay, Jendeukie?"
"Yup." Jennie retorted her eyes focused on the fries in her tray. Jisoo knew better than to believe the other girl's words so she took out a bunch of strawberries from her bag and held it out for her to take. The brown-eyed girl saw a glimpse of her favorite fruit and snatched them from Jisoo's hand, her demeanor changing just like that.
"Better?" The brown-eyed girl asked.
"Better." Jennie nodded as she started to eat it. The three other girls in the table watched the small exchanged and gagged.

"I think I'm going to be sick." Lisa proclaimed as she draped her arm over Rosé smirking.
"Oh no, Lisa!" Rosé said dramatically. She grabbed her apple from her tray and shook the red fruit in front of the girl. "Here take this apple! It'll make you feel better."
"Oh Rosé! You're a lifesaver." The girl reached over and took the apple, clutching it over her heart.
"Only for you." Rosé batted her eyelashes as she clasped her hands together. "Better?"
"Better."
Yeri snickered at her foolish teammates. The other two girls erupted with fits of laughter after their little skit. Jisoo laughed along to the very dramatic representation. She couldn't deny it. That's what her and Jennie act like but with less emphasis.
Jennie kept eating, staring at her teammates with an unimpressed look. "You guys are annoying."
The rest of the varsity volleyball team joined the five girls the remaining half hour. They talked and joked around with each other like family. However, while everyone gossiped Jisoo rested her chin in her hand and she stared at Jennie until the bell rang. Nayeon could never compare.
"Jendeukie, you have plans tonight?" Jisoo questioned as she walked side by side with her co-captain. Practice ended early due to the captains' request. The team had three games back to back that week and thought that they deserved a break.
"Nope." Jennie chuckled wearily as she looked back to when all her Friday nights were booked.
"Irene cancelled again?"
"Yeah."
"Her loss, right?" Jisoo tried to joke. She rubbed the back of her neck nervously and glanced at her the other captain. "A couple of girls are coming over to Yeri's for movie night. You in?"
"Is there going to be popcorn?"
"It's movie night. Duh."
"I'm in."
Jisoo grinned widely at the other girl's response. She gets to spend more time with Jennie, which is never a bad thing. She opened the door for her but tilted her head in bewilderment when Jennie turned.
"Uh... Jen? The parking lot is this way..." She pointed behind her.
Jennie chuckled lightly. "Yeah, I know. But my locker is this way."
Jisoo shot her a questioning look before letting go of the door.
"I forgot my homework in my locker." The brown-eyed girl informed with a smile.
"Oh." Jisoo scurried to catch up with her teammate. "I'll come with you."
"Okay."
Jisoo trailed behind Jennie, clutching on to the girl's backpack and swaying whenever the girl made a turn. Every now and then Jennie would look back and laugh at Jisoo's childish play.
"Careful, Kim. Some may think you're four." Jennie teased.
"Eyes on the road, Jendeukie." Jisoo remarked as her eyes dropped down to gawk at Jennie's long legs. She found herself drooling at them. She was so focused on the legs that she didn't notice the other girl stopped walking causing her to collide with the girl. "Jen-"
Her teammate quickly rotated her body and cupped Jisoo's mouth to silence her. Jisoo furrowed her eyebrows and looked at the girl in puzzlement.
"What's happening?" The pale skinned girl said into Jennie's hand. Jennie raised her pointer finger up and pushed it upon her own mouth. Jisoo grew even more confused until she heard it.
Moaning.
Her eyes widened as she realized that there were people having sex in the hallway. She heard people talk about doing so or having witnessed it but she thought it was far from the truth. But now that she's in that position, she couldn't believe it.
"Yeah... right there." A high-pitched voice moaned. Ragged breaths echoed throughout the hall.
Jisoo cringed as she heard it. Sex was normal but she felt disgusted just listening to it. She wanted to get out of there as fast as she could, not wanting to know who it was. She craned her head and saw Jennie in the verge of crying. She took hold of Jennie's hand and pulled it off her mouth.
"Hey Jendeukie. Are you okay?" Jisoo whispered. Jennie bit her lip and shut her eyes. "Hey."
Now she was curious. She carefully moved around her teammate and peeped out her head. That's when she saw it. Her orbs landing upon a brunette with a petite frame wearing a varsity cheer uniform. Irene.
Jennie's girlfriend was on a desk with a girl kissing her neck. Jisoo didn't care who the other girl was, all she knew was that it was Irene and that was enough for her.
When Jisoo turned back to Jennie, the girl was gone. Following her instincts, Jisoo rushed to the nearest bathroom. Once she opened the door she was met with chocolate balls of sadness staring at her.
Jennie wiped her tears off her face and gave Jisoo a small smile. "I'm okay."
"No, Jennie you are not." Her teammate replied her voice laced with concern. "You just witness your girlfriend cheat on you."
"It's not the first time." Jennie revealed nonchalantly.
"What?" Jisoo exclaimed. "This is the first time! You knew?"
The girl leaned against the bathroom wall and slid down against it. She patted the spot next to her signaling Jisoo to take a sit. Jisoo sighed and strolled over to Jennie, taking a sit facing her.
"Sophomore year, I found her making out with Seulgi that very spot. I guess Irene was seeing her back then as well." Jennie shrugged.
"Why didn't you tell me? I would have beaten the shit out of her!" Jisoo clenched her jaw and glared at Jennie.
"No you wouldn't. Chu, you're like the sweetest person I've ever met. You wouldn't hurt a fly. Plus, I thought you liked Irene. You always defended her when Yeri or Lisa would talk shit." Jennie countered.
"I defended her because she made you happy. I did that for you not because I like her. Jennie, I tolerate her because she was your girlfriend." Jisoo took a sharp inhale. "You think I'm sweet because you haven't seen how I am when I'm angry."
The blood in Jennie's face drained as she heard Jisoo's rasped, rigid voice.
"Why didn't you break up with her?" The other volleyball player spoke lowly. "Jennie, why didn't you break up with Irene when you found her kissing someone else?"
"Because I love her." Jennie sniffed. That was a lie. Never in their years growing up together had she loved the girl more than friends or a sister. "I grew up with her and she's all I know."
"You don't love her." Jisoo snapped. She lifted her gaze and locked eyes with Jennie. "You put up with her because you're afraid. You put up with her because you think she's your responsibility. You put up with her because she's safe!"
Jennie laughed as reality hit her like a ton of bricks. Her laugh soon turned to sobs. She threw herself at Jisoo and cried. Jisoo was always right.
Jennie sobbed softly.
