《Outlawry》Chapter 18 - Luther//The Yellow Swings

I had poured my heart, my guts, out to Gomez. I completely confessed that I loved Ava Lane. She was my everything, and I didn't know why. I wasn't even sure that is was love. All I knew was that I didn't want anyone else to take her, to touch her, to even look at her, besides me.

I just wanted to be with her. Inside of her in every way. I wanted to be in her mind. I wanted our souls to be meshed. I wanted my tongue in her mouth and every other disgusting thing I could do. Was that love? Was that what this...insane obsession was?

"Gomez," I spoke.

"What is it?" he asked.

"Let me out."

"I can't do that, hermano."

I balled my hands up into fists and struck the hard, cement floor.

"Let me out of here!"

"Are you kidding me? You are way to unpredictable right now."

"Then let me see Ava." I heard no response from him. "Let me see her, you bastard!" I screamed.

"If you really loved her, you wouldn't do this to her, Lex."

"I do love her! Shut up you Brazilian son of a bitch! I've had enough with your Superman references! I am NOT Lex Luthor! I love her and it's nothing you would understand! I need her! She needs to belong to me!"

"THAT'S ENOUGH, LUTHER!" Gomez shouted. I shrunk back. I couldn't see his face, but I could tell that he was seething. "Ava is a human being just like you are. Put yourself in her shoes. Would you love someone who did all the things to you that you do to Ava?"

I clenched my jaw. "Maybe..."

"You wouldn't. Trust me. You can't force her to love you. And, to be honest, I think that you have ruined your chances with her for good."

"Don't say that, Gomez. I can do what I want with her. She's going to fall in love with me. She would have already if you had just stayed out of it!"

"Don't blame this on me, you would've have been caught by the police if it hadn't been for me."

"I was careful. I wasn't even at my house."

"Then...where were you?" he asked, perplexed.

"Ava's house," I replied with pride.

"And what were you doing at Ava's house?" he asked suspiciously.

"I was about to make her love me...until you RUINED IT!"

"If you think that raping her is going to make her love you, then you seriously need a reality check."

"Just...let me talk to Ava," I quietly requested. "Please. I'm going to loose my mind if I don't."

I could hear him mumble as he began to walk up the stairs. "You've already lost it..."

I waited silently in the basement as I waited for the soft pitter patter of Ava's footsteps to walk down the stairs. I heard nothing but Gomez's oversized feet and the thudding of rain on the roof. I looked out the small window and smiled. It was a perfect day. After a few more minutes of waiting, I grew impatient.

"GOMEZ!" I screamed. "Where is she?"

I heard him thump back down the stairs again. He opened the door. He was the only one standing there. I furrowed my brows.

"Where is Ava?" I demanded. He shrugged.

"I don't know. She's not here, I think that she ran off."

"Ran off?" I shouted. I lowered my head and glared at him. "You're lying."

He shook his head. "I'm not lying to you, Luther." He turned and began to walk away. I silently followed after him.

We walked into the kitchen. He began stuffing bags of weed into the orange envelopes lying about.

"I'd like for you to stay here tonight," he requested. I wasn't really paying attention. Instead, I grabbed a frying pan that was resting on the stove.

"And why is that?" I asked as I snuck up behind him.

"I have errands to run tonight and I really don't feel like babysitting-" I cut him off as I swung the frying pan into the back of his head. He fell to the ground with a thud. I smirked to myself.

Putting the pan down, I began a thorough search of Gomez's house. I had been there many times before, and knew every hiding place he had to hide drugs. I searched every crack and crevice of the house, but Ava was no where to be found.

He let her leave... I thought.

Growling through my teeth, I took off through the front door and ran across the neighborhood to the park that was in mine. My black hair dripping in rain, I looked around a bush and saw the yellow swing set in the distance. A girl with familiar orange hair was sitting on one of the swings with her head bowed. I smirked to myself as I silently crept up to her.

I could hear her faint weeping as I snuck up behind her. Furrowing my brows, I wrapped one arm around her waist and my hand cupped her mouth. She didn't react.

"Why did you leave, Ava?" I whispered into her ear.

"I heard what you said to Gomez," she mumbled into my hand. I lifted a brow and pulled my hand away from her mouth. I walked over and sat on the swing next to hers.

"What did you hear?"

Her wet, orange hair was pasted across her face. Mascara ran down her cheeks and underneath her eyes. It, to me, was simply beautiful. She must have noticed the admiring look in my eyes, because she disregarded my question to ask one of her own.

"Why do you look at me like that?" she asked like she was about to cry.

Taken aback, I straightened my posture. "Like what?"

"Like you want to eat me."

I sat there silently, my mouth slightly parted open. I suppose I did look like I wanted to eat her. She looked away from me.

"I don't know," I replied with little emotion. "Did Gomez tell you to leave?"

She shook her head. "I ran away."

"Why?"

She lifted her head and inhaled loudly through her nose. "I already told you."

"What exactly did you hear?" I repeated.

She threw her head back and let the rain fall onto her face. I watched her intently. This wasn't Ava's normal behavior. She was starting to act like...me. This action made her jaw line more defined than before. She closed her eyes. If I hadn't been watching so closely, I wouldn't have noticed the hot tear that trickled down the side of her cheek. She brought her head back down and stared back at me.

"Luther," she began. "Do you love me?"

I stared at her as I gulped. "What does it matter?" I asked to myself as I looked away from her.

"Tell me," she demanded.

"It doesn't matter..."

"Tell me right NOW!" she growled.

I flinched at her sudden outburst. This was a whole new side to Ava that I had never seen before. I kind of...liked it.

I slowly turned my head back to her as a wicked grin spread across my lips.

"Yes," I said. "I love you."

Her eyebrows curled up as her grey eyes widened. "Oh."

I let out a sarcastic chuckle. "That's all you have to say, isn't it?"

"What do you expect from me? I can't handle this." She got up from the swing and began walking back towards her house.

I watched her silently as she walked home in the rain. Suddenly, adrenaline possessed me and I shot off the swing and ran towards her with great swiftness. I'm sure she heard me approaching from behind her, but she didn't react at all. Had I...broken her?

"Ava!" I called as I stopped her from walking by stepping in front of her.

"What?" she asked.

"Please. Say something!"

"I don't know what you want me to say anymore. You've only known me for two weeks. There's no way you're in love with me, and if you are in love with me, that does not mean that I automatically love you."

She pushed past me and resumed her course.

"Ava..." I whispered.

"I'm done with you, Luther. Are you done with me?"

"What do you mean by done?" I asked, on the verge of tears.

"I don't ever want to see you again. And I don't want to ever see Gomez again. I don't ever want to hear your voice, or anything associated with you. Leave me alone, before I call the police and have you put behind bars." I stood there and stared at her, the hot tears rolling down my cheeks. "You are too dangerous, Luther. Tell me, how many people have you killed?"

I looked away like an ashamed child, getting scolded. I shrugged.

"Tell me, Luther. I know you know."

I gulped. "Ava, please..."

"Now."

I turned my gaze to her and gulped. She lifted her brows as she waited for my answer. "Thirty-seven."

She let out a startled gasp as her posture suddenly became weak. She placed her hand on her heart and slowly began stumbling backwards. "That can't be..." she whispered.

"You made me tell you," I blamed. "You will forgive me for telling the truth."

"You're mad," she claimed. "You are absolutely insane. You are sick. You disgust me, Luther." She turned and bolted to her house. This time, I let her go. It was useless trying to keep going after her today. My phone vibrated in my pocket. Gomez had woken up, and was trying to call me. I answered it, but didn't say anything.

"Luther?" he asked angrily. I didn't respond. "Luther!"

I pursed my lips and flipped the phone shut. I didn't have time for Gomez's shit right now. I had other plans...
