《Living With The Asshole》Chapter 2

"Get the hell out of here, Trent!" I heard Kayla yell as I walked towards her bedroom.
I cringed. Having a pissed off Kayla was never good.
"Please rela-
"Don't you fucking dare tell me to relax!"
"Please Kayla! You know we would never-"
"Trent, I swear to God if you don't leave right now-"
"Fine! Alright. I'm leaving but would you please hear me out-"
I was at Kayla's house and Trent and Kayla were fighting. Oh God, this was so, so wrong. Trent and I could never ever dream of doing something like this.
I rushed inside to see many broken things on the floor. Her right hand which tightly clutched a flower vase was bleeding.
"Kayla! Your hand!" I exclaimed.
She gave me a terrifying look. Kayla was really scary when she was angry.
"Don't act like you fucking care!"
"Of course I care, Kayla! You're my best friend!"
She raised an eyebrow. "Really now?"
"Of course Kay. Please hear us out. You know we would never ever do that to you!" Trent exclaimed, trying to walk closer to her.
"Now, put that vase aside and relax. Okay?" Trent said softly, taking small and slow steps towards her.
Trent was really good with situations like these.
He slowly took the vase out of her hand and sat her down on the bed.
"Baby, look at me," he said gently to her.
She didn't.
He placed his hands on either side of her face and made her look at him.
"Now, do you really think we would do anything of this sort?"
"But-"
I figured I should leave the two of them alone and quietly crept out of Kayla's room and went to my room.
I sighed and threw myself on the bed without bothering to change my clothes. This night had been exhausting.
***
I instantly regretted waking up when the events of last night came rushing back to me.
I looked at my reflection in the mirror and cringed. I looked like a crazy person with my makeup all smudged and my hair messed up.
I quickly took a shower and put some clothes on. I didn't want Kayla's family to kick me out now, did I?
I paced outside her room, wondering what to do. I was hesitant about trying to talk to her because trust me, nobody wanted to face angry Kayla.
But maybe Trent had talked some sense into her?
With a deep breath, I entered her room. "Here goes nothing," I muttered to myself opening the door.
She was my best friend, after all. She would have to hear me out.
Only she wasn't there.
"Kayla?" I said, walking inside.
When I'd looked everywhere in her room, including the bathroom, I went downstairs.
"Kayla, honey are you up?"
It was Kayla's mother.
"No, it's me Maureen. Good morning," I smiled at her. "Morning Fred," I said to Kayla's six year old brother.
He smiled back in response.
Her father had probably already left for work.
When I'd gotten here last night, none of them had been at home. Kayla had told me that they had all gone to a family friend's house for dinner.

It would have been awkward popping out of Maureen's elder son's room early in the morning had we not been so close to each other and she hadn't been so used to seeing me around the house so frequently.
"Morning dear. Where's Kayla? Oversleeping again?"
Shit. She didn't know where Kayla was either.
"No, she actually went to school early today. She had to work on this,uh,project we have," I lied.
"Oh yes, she was telling me about it. Anyway, have a seat. Pancakes?"
"No, actually I've got to get going too. I'll be late for school," I said, feeling too anxious to eat.
I quickly said goodbye to both of them and hurried out the front door, clutching my bag tightly.
I quickly took my phone out of my bad and called Trent.
"Hello?"
"Trent, what happened last night?"
"Why? What-"
"She isn't home."
"What do you mean she's not at home?"
I let out a sigh. "Kayla. She wasn't in her house when I woke up."
"Oh. She... she must have gone to school."
Trent was always the level headed one.
Of course. School. Where else would she go early in the morning?
I was such an idiot. Freaking out over nothing.
"Oh. Right. Sorry."
"Ashley, she's going to be fine. Don't worry."
"Yeah. Sorry for scaring you. See you." I said quickly and hung up.
Then, remembering that I didn't have a ride, I called him up again and asked him to pick me up.
He came ten minutes later and I quickly got into his car.
"Hi Trent." I said giving him a quick hug.
"Hey. Are you okay?"
I nodded. "I'm so sorry for calling you like that. My brain stopped working I guess."
"It's fine. Don't worry about it."
I gave him a weak smile as he started the car and turned the radio on.
"What happened last night?" I asked, turning the music off so we could talk.
He shrugged. "We talked, I guess. I explained things to her. She was still pretty angry but you know how she is."
I nodded. "Yeah. I think she just needs time."
We soon got to school and I quickly got out of Trent's car. I didn't want Kayla to see us together. Trent might have talked to her but I knew that seeing us together would definitely make her angry, even if she knew the truth now.
As luck would have it, she had just parked her car beside Trent's and was just getting out of it.
Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit.
This was not good.
A flicker of annoyance crossed her face but she quickly covered it up and walked away without giving either of us another look.
"Oh my God, Trent. Stop her,"I said seeing her long black hair swinging behind her as she walked away from us.
Trent let out a sigh, staring at her longingly as she went inside the school building.
"I will," he said. "I'll see you later."
And with that he disappeared too.
***
The whole day Kayla didn't once and I mean once speak to me.

Why was she being like this? I thought she'd be back to normal after Trent had talked to her last night. He was pretty good at it too.
But then again I suppose I understood why. She had just calmed down a little bit and then seeing us together again would've made her even more angry. It didn't matter that we were best friends.
Last night's incident had done it's damage and I could tell it was going to last a while.
I didn't want to go to Kayla's house after school. It would be too awkward and strange to be in the same house after not having talked to each other for the whole day.
Trent, Cole and I went to a small restaurant after school to talk about it. Needless to say, Trent was even more disturbed with this than I was.
"Can you guys not act like this?" Cole said in exasperation.
"Like what?" I asked, looking at him.
He gave me a flat look. "Like this! Come on you guys. It's a small misunderstanding. It will be fine!"
I let out a sigh. "You know what, you're right. It's just a misunderstanding and Kayla's angry right now but once she calms down she'll realize how silly she's being and everything will be back to normal."
"There you go." Cole smiled. He nudged Trent. "Cheer up, man."
"Guys there's one thing though," I started.
"What?" Cole asked.
"You guys know how I'm living at Kayla's house?"
"Oh shit," Trent said, suddenly looking up." I completely forgot about that."
"What about it?" asked Cole.
I gave him a pointed look. "Given the circumstances, do you think it would be right for me to be around her while she's this angry?"
"Ohh. Right!" Cole's eyes widened in realization.
"Where are you going to do?"
"I don't know," I shrugged.
"We'll figure it out.Don't worry Ash," Cole said sweetly.
I smiled. "But what are we going to do? Maybe I could live at my own house till things settle down. I'll make Tessa and her mother swear to not tell Mom."
Trent shook his head. "No," he said firmly.
"But what am I supposed to do?"
"Cole!" someone exclaimed and I saw a familiar girl walking towards our table. I couldn't put my finger on where I knew her from.
"Hey Amanda," Cole greeted her as she reached our table.
"Guys, this is Amanda Woods. The girl who threw that awesome party we went to last night," he grinned, gesturing towards the chair so Amanda would join us.
It was then that I realized that she was the girl I'd asked where the bathroom was last night.
She laughed, sitting down. "Oh hey!" she said, her gaze landing on me. "You're the girl from yesterday."
I smiled. "I'm Ashley."
"Amanda. Nice to see you again," she smiled back.
"Likewise."
I saw Trent looking confused.
"Oh and this my friend, Trent," Cole said before I could introduce him to her.
"Hey."
We chatted for a while, mostly about the party when Trent's phone buzzed. He glanced at the screen and got up.
"I'm really sorry but I have to go," he said.
His house was soon going to be renovated and so he was almost always busy these days.
He gave me a brief hug before saying goodbye to everyone and leaving.
"Okay, so maybe it was just me but you guys seemed to be really worried...Is everything okay? You don't have to tell me if you don't want to, of course."
"Well, Ashley here has no place to stay. Her parents are out of town for a while. She just needs a place to stay for a few days."
I felt a bit embarrassed telling her about this but she seemed like a pretty nice person.
"Oh, so why don't you live with Trent or Cole?" she asked me.
Cole answered before I could. "Well, she could live with me, but I don't think her parents would approve of her staying in a house full of five teenage guys."
That was right. Cole had four brothers.
"And she could go live with Trent, but they're going to start renovating soon. And our other friends are holidaying and-"
"-I get it, I get it."
"That sucks," Amanda said, looking at me sympathetically.
"Yeah. I think I'll just find a way to go back to my own house or something." I shrugged not wanting to talk more about it and feel bad about Kayla again.
Everyone was quiet for a while before Amanda broke the silence.
"Hey, I can help you," she said to me with a large smile.
"Really?"
"Yes, you can come stay in my house."
"Oh no,I can't. I mean that'd be-"
"It will be no trouble at all. Trust me."
"You think so?"
"Yeah, totally! It's just for a few days anyway, right? Not a big deal at all."
"But I don't know exactly for how long I'll have to stay. My parents aren't here and-"
"It's no problem at all. My parents are never at home. I just live with my brother and our housekeeper,Joanna."
"Are you sure though?" I asked again. It felt weird. I mean, Amanda seemed like a nice girl but I'd just met her.
"Yeah, definitely. You can move in tomorrow if you like."
I looked at Cole. He gave me a nod.
I wasn't entirely happy about going to live with a girl that I didn't even know but I didn't really have a lot of options.
"Okay. I guess I'll see you tomorrow then."
"Yay! Problem solved," Cole said with a grin.
I smiled before turning to Amanda. "Thank you so much, Amanda."
"You're welcome."
She gave me a kind smile.
I breathed a sigh of relief. At least one thing was out of the way.
After having coffee, Amanda and I exchanged numbers and then we went our own ways.
Cole left to go to a football match. He took me to Kayla's so I could get my things and then he dropped me off at Hannah's house.
Hannah was a friend of mine. She was nowhere near a good friend as Kayla though. I was supposed to help her out with some schoolwork anyway, so I decided to stay over at her house.
As we had dinner later that night, I couldn't help but think about Kayla.
Things needed to be fixed soon.
