《clueless | goodguyfitz |》chapter 35

i sat at in the warm kitchen that was decorated with many sunflower plates. my younger brother, mika sat across from me with pursed lips. we were in the middle of an intense game of uno spin and nothing was getting in between us. "audrey!" well, almost nothing. i launched off of the wooden kitchen chair and sprinted to where my mom had called my name from. "someone is outside for you." i nod and exit my home. the air was more heavy than ever today which was most likely the cause as to why me and my siblings don't want to come outside.
"hey," mason mumbled as he bit into plain a slice of bread. every time i see him he is eating something that is unusual. "come walk with me, we gotta talk." shaking my head, i follow after him. "so, i haven't seen ya in a while, what the fuck is up?" i shrug my shoulders in response and look in front of us to see the sun just starting to set, creating a yellow/orange sunset.
mason and i are about a year apart and experience things that are insanely similar. yet we never really get to talk since his doesn't have a phone and never gave me a home number. he says he has been caught up in trying to get through school and stuff, but i don't think that's it. i think there is more to him that he really lets out.
"i've been trying to get closer to matt," i confess. "he's been a little distant this past week. i just think he's nervous because of prom or something." mason chuckled and snickered soon after. "but what are you even doing over here? you should be back over in australia, don't you have school?"
"yeah, mom let me visit for the weekend." his hands were tucked into the pockets of his blue shorts. i had almost forgotten about his uniform.
"how is school?" talking to mason was always effortless since we are the same age, but sometimes it was a little awkward. we don't see each other for a long while and never get the chance to call ever, so it's always a little strange when we see each other after a long time.
"it's fine i guess. not a lot has changed, ya know? i'm still fucking failing." i giggle at that a tad. numerous times when he would come down to visit i would have to help him with his homework, which i didn't mind at all since i was an all A student.

"you not studying, or what?" he huffed deeply and turned to me. if looks could kill. "fine, fine." i raise my hands defensively and watch him go back to normal mason. "got a girlfriend?"
"nah," he sighed. "too busy failing school for that." we turn into the park and keep our eyes on the ground, careful not to bump into any kids that were still wondering around the park.
"damn," i cursed, feeling a little bit anxious about someone hearing me. my eyes quickly found the lit up gazebo that was decorated in fairy lights and a few candles. upon the top was a well decorated poster that read;
my hands cover my mouth from shock as the whole scene just took me by surprise. i wasn't expecting such an elegant promposal. matt came down the steps and held out a hand to me with a giant smile painting across his scarred face. i took his hand and he led me into the white gazebo made of old wood. "i know i've been a little distant lately, but it's only because i've been stressing on making you the perfect promposal that i could possibly make." he leaned down and kissed me, his hands on the small of my back as we kissed.
"thank you matt," i whisper to him as i stare into his dark brown eyes. "it's beautiful." i was pleased with everything he had done, in all honesty it was more than i expected of him. he had done a fantastic job.
"aye, do i get a thank you for helping setting up?" fitz asked from behind us, ruining our moment. it was almost perfect. his arms were crossed and a playful smirk was playing across his lips.
"yes, thank you fitz." i have grown accustomed to calling the boys by their internet names, well except for zuckles. he will always be mason for some reason. he nodded his head and walked back out of the gazebo to stand beside mason.
"you're welcome, baby." i kissed his cheek and ruffled his hair a bit, watching as his hair spewed out into different directions. he was a mess.

"you never did go to prom, did you?" cameron asked as we sat inside of a different gazebo that looked very similar. i shook my head and traced my nail along the scars in the aged wood.

"no, my parents were having a troublesome time with my dads other child." his name still isn't clicking in my head, why is that? "we didn't have the money for a dress, and frankly, matt was being a little flakey at the time anyway." we were both sharing a little thing of chocolate ice cream even though i was lactose intolerant. "looking back, i can see little spots of jealousy you probably didn't mean to show."
"yeah, i certainly was a little agitated that matt had such a wonderful girlfriend and i didn't." i held his held his hand over the table and squeezed it gently before taking my hand back to scoop some more ice cream.
"we seem to talk about our past a lot."
"i mean, it's what got us here. plus, there is so much more interesting things that happened back then." i nodded, realizing his grammar mistakes. he wasn't the best at speaking sometimes but i know he tries.
as we walked back to his house in the streetlight lit sidewalk, we both awaited in silence. the other looked to me, his little smirk growing softly along his thin lips. "man," he shook his head. i turn back to him to see his eyes on the ground. "you are so fucking surreal."
"what do you mean?"
"like... just this in general. it's so strange how we met and how we got to where we are now." he is so sentimental sometimes. "i don't know, maybe i'm being too clingy."
"no, no. not at all." i slam open the door to a room full of boys playing and watching others play video games. swagger got off of the couch and pinched my arm lightly. "ow! what the fuck was that for, bitch?"
"i don't know, maybe for the fact that you didn't respond to any of my text messages." i pinch him back and watch him cover the area where i pinched him with his fingers. "how was your date anyway?"
"it was super chill," i respond and set down my little hand bag. "watched the meteor shower and shared some old stories with each other." swagger wiggles his eyebrows and waited for me to go on.
"no, we didn't have sex, i know that's what you're asking about."
"alright, what ever." he raised his hands in defense and looked to cam. "tell me, who was this guy anyway? you did say he was an old friend, how come you never talk about him?"
"oh!" i looked to fitz and furrowed my brows, trying my best to tell if he wanted it out there. his face was straight so i really couldn't get any answers out of him. "this dude i went to high school with.... his name is—jehan." swagger looked at me, questioning everything i had just said. "yeah, jehan." matt was then distracted from his game when he heard the name.
"really? like, the real jehan?"
"yup," i laugh awkwardly. "the one and only." cam crossed his arms over his chest and went ahead to his bedroom, leaving me to be questioned about my love life.
"anyway, i should be -uh- chasing after the skyscraper. umm... yeah." i do just that and leave them all behind to continue with their little game. "cam." i knock on his door a few times before he pulls it open. stepping into his room, i watched as he pulled over a new shirt over his torso.
fuck.
my face was covered in redness as i remembered what had gone down the time we both ate those moon cakes. "jesus," i huff. "sorry for whatever i did when we were both baked out of our mind." he shrugged and fell into his bed, his black sweats falling against his long legs.
"what was that down there?"
"i didn't know if you wanted them to know, i couldn't tell. we haven't talked about it and i felt a little awkward just saying it without talking with you about it first." he shook his head and ran his fingers through his hair. "i wasn't thinking."
"it's okay. but we are going to tell them about us, right?" nodding my head, i agreed with the idea.
"yeah, yeah. we will."
