SNIPPET/SCENE:

Quickly I walked over to my desk and put the gift baskets out of view.

I knew that any moment from now my boss would walk through those doors.

I checked my appearance in my compact mirror. Make-up, check;

Hair, check; teeth...

I let out a shriek. My eyes dart to the office door.

I had chocolate on my upper teeth. Oh my gosh, oh my gosh.

I had spoken to the ice man with a brown stain on my teeth. And he didn't even tell me.

Imagine if my boss had walked in instead of the snowman.

Still, I almost died with embarrassment.

Heat traveled from my neck to my ears.

'I don't care what he thinks about me.'

I repeated the mantra over and over again. When I had said it about a billion times, I almost believed it.

Twenty minutes had gone by and my boss wasn't appearing and the Iceman wasn't leaving.

So I walked into my boss' office to let Junior know that my boss may be held up in another meeting so he would have to reschedule.

I took no pleasure in exercising my limited authority with him but boy did the idea sound nice.

I walked into the office without knocking.

At the next instant, the breath from my lungs was knocked right out of me.

To my complete disbelief, I found the Yeti sitting in the main seat.

'I believe, Ms. Miles, that you understand the notion of knocking.'

Welsh junior said without looking up from the document in his hands.

I knew I wasn't dumb. No one could ever call me dumb but at that moment I was dumbfounded and so asked a dumb question.

'What are you doing in my boss' chair?'

Whether or not he realized the stupidity of my question, he didn't show.

'Ms. Miles, I believe I'm in this seat because I am the business consultant who you will be assisting with your competent skills.'

His remark sounded almost like an insult and that bit.

Oh, the stress.

But my boss was supposed to be the sweetest man alive, I cried in my head.

I must have stared at him for a while because he said,

'It seems you have nothing better to do. So why don't you get me a cup of coffee.'

Like a doll, I nodded.

I didn't even bother to correct him in my stupefied state.

My mind tried to wrestle with the fact that he stole my job. Did they give him my job?

I had no idea how I made the coffee or what I put in it but I got the task done.

'Good girl. I believe I have important files that need my attention so if you are done doing whatever it is you think you're doing get me those files.'

I couldn't stop the furious blush that crept up my cheeks.

With my head bowed, I retrieved the organized files and presented it to him.

'That will be all for now. You may return to your desk.'

I stopped halfway in my tracks to the door when I realized how he was treating me. Like a dog!

The nerve of the man.

'Is there something I can help you with?'

With nerves of steel, I bit down on my tongue to keep from insulting him. After all, he was my boss.

I could cry.

I let out a pent-up breath upon returning to my desk.

And just when I thought the day couldn't get any worse, the despicable-job-stealing-grey-eyes-snowman stood at his door and looked right at me.

'One more thing Ms. Miles.'

'Mills.'

'Those baskets,' he pointed to the hidden gift baskets at my desk.

'I believe if you read the cards, you'll find that they do not belong to you.

I'll like them in my office thank you.'

I was almost afraid to look after he closed his door.

But I eventually did.

I buried my face in my hands and then attempt to strangle myself with my hair.

I was beginning to hate this man.

In fact, I already hated this man, with a passion that rivaled any of my previous feelings.

The weirdest thing about the whole day was, I kept hearing someone whistling.

Funny thing was, the tune was a familiar one.

'Don't worry be happy.'

SNIPPET/SCENE

If I could stretch her across my lap and spank her, I happily would. I nearly rolled my eyes when she smiled at me at her table.

'Uh-oh, the boss is here.' She giggled and hid her head behind the green bottles of beer and soju, the Korean alcoholic drink.

I seriously did not have time for games.

'Are you her friend who called?'

The owner of the bar and restaurant asked. But she used the word Oppa.

'Oppa, will you buy me a drink?' Keziah sang in Korean.

It's like she had been possessed by another personality.

'Yes, I am. Thank you for keeping an eye on her.' Paying no mind to Keziah's musical request.

'We are going home.'

My heart forgot how to beat, Keziah pouted lifting a pleading with a finger in my direction.

I had to say no, I thought to myself but the words made themselves scarce when the will to refuse her became apparently absent.

'If your Oppa won't buy you a drink, then let me.' The stranger's offer snapped me back to my right state of mind.

'The hell you will.' I spoke in English.

I lifted Keziah from the chair, awkwardly dragging her to the door while holding her pocketbook.

'Can you walk?'

Her eyes furiously searched for something,

'Where's the car?'

'I didn't bring it.'

'Why?' She whined.

'The house is six blocks that way.'

She removed herself from my embrace and sat on the floor, I could smell a tantrum coming.

Oh god, I couldn't deal with this now.

Maybe I should just leave her here.
