《Plot Twist [VKOOK/TAEKOOK]》April pt.4

Then the door is opened wider and all the members come bustling in. They all begin talking over the top of each other, and I catch a few things like "he's alive!" and "about time you woke up, sleeping beauty!".
"Okay, everyone, calm down!" Nurse Clairs raises her voice over the top of them, silencing everyone. "I'll just be two ticks and then you can talk to him as much as you want. Here, Mr Kim, take these. I'm afraid ice chips are all you can eat at the moment." She passes me the styrofoam cup, and I take one of the ice chips and eat it. I can't stop the groan that escapes me as I do so.
"It tastes like heaven," I breathe.
Nurse Clairs laughs. "You're not the first to think so. Do you have feeling in your lower body yet?" I shake my head. "Good, you shouldn't. You'll start to get feeling tomorrow." She looks up at my heart rate monitor which is still beeping steadily. "I'll be back soon to kick these guys out and get you to your baby."
"Okay, thank you," I say.
She nods and leaves. I look back at everyone, and see several of them are biting their lips.
"I think we can talk now," Jin breaks the silence.
Jimin runs to my side and wraps me up in an embrace. "You're okay!"
I hug him back tightly before pulling away and waving to everyone else. "Hello!"
One by one, they take turns hugging me.
"We were so worried, you have no idea," Namjoon says when they finish.
"You looked like you were in so much pain," says Hoseok.
"It was pretty intense," I tell him. "I'm glad that's over."
"None of us wanted to go back onstage. I can't believe they made us," Yoongi huffs.

Guilt washes over me. "You all had to keep performing?"
"Of course we did." Namjoon shrugs.
"I'm sorry... I really must have thrown you off," I apologise.
Jin shakes his head. "Don't be sorry. We actually told the audience the truth about what was happening, much to the annoyance of the staff, and they turned into the most excited crowd we've ever had."
I laugh.
"So you haven't seen the baby yet?" Jimin asks.
"No, I only just woke up. Jungkook said he has."
Jungkook smiles again. "I can't wait for you to see her."
"He's been telling us all about her since he saw her yesterday," Yoongi says.
"We really want to see her too, but we're not allowed!" Hoseok pouts.
"Why?" I ask.
"Apparently they only let immediate family into the NICU," Namjoon says sadly.
"That sucks. Can we take pictures?" I ask Jungkook.
"I haven't asked yet," he says.
Every second that passes, I get even more eager to get out of this room and into the NICU. After we spend some time talking, Nurse Clairs comes back in and asks everyone besides Jungkook to leave. Then both of them help me into a wheelchair as she tells me I'm about to see my daughter. I can barely contain my excitement as I'm wheeled out of my room. Before long, we're in the NICU. It's spacious and contains rows of clear boxes on each side. Most of the boxes are empty, but some have very small babies inside with several tubes attached to them. My excitement fades and I'm filled with sadness as I take them in. There are teary parents holding onto each other as they look at their children, and nurses poking their hands through the holes on the side to listen to the babies' heartbeats. A lump rises in my throat and I blink back tears.

"Where's mine?" I ask in a wobbly voice.
Jungkook walks in front of Nurse Clairs and I to stand at an incubator in the far right corner, and I'm wheeled over there.
"Here," Jungkook says softly.
Then I lay eyes on my baby girl for the first time and my heart is ripped out of my chest. She's tiny. So very tiny. Tubes are attached everywhere; on her chest, her stomach, her feet, up her nose. Her eyes are shut and her arms are bent up. She's the most precious thing I've ever had the pleasure of looking at. I find it hard to believe that she's mine. I could stare at her forever.
"Tae?" Jungkook's voice breaks me out of the trance I didn't realise I had fallen into.
I blink, but I can't seem to take my eyes off her. "She's so pretty."
Jungkook plants a gentle kiss atop my head, and I can't stop the tears from falling.
"I wish I could have done a better job of growing her. I don't want her to be stuck in there."
Out of the corner of my eye I see Jungkook squat down beside my wheelchair. "Tae, look at me."
I finally tear my eyes away from my baby to meet his and see pain mixed with joy in them that reflects exactly how I feel.
"This isn't your fault. You did everything right." His eyes begin to glisten. "You had faith, and here she is. She's going to be okay in the end."
I take a deep breath and nod, feeling like the luckiest person alive to have Jungkook by my side. "Thank you, Jungkookie."
"Faith?" Nurse Clairs pipes up. I'd forgotten she was there. "Is that the baby's name? It's lovely. Suits her."
"Oh, no, that's not what I meant," Jungkook says, but then we exchange a look and I know we're thinking the same thing.
I look at our baby and then back at Jungkook. "It does suit her."
"Faith," Jungkook tries out the name, then shrugs and smiles at me. "I don't have anything better."
"Me neither." I smile too.
Nurse Clairs chuckles. "Well, happy to help. We can get a little name tag sorted for her now. And a birth certificate, obviously. Kim Faith."
"Jeon-Kim Faith, actually," I correct her.
"Fantastic," she says. "Would you like to touch her? You can just put your hand through here." She points to the hole in the side of the incubator.
Jungkook stands up again and puts a hand on my shoulder as I tentatively reach my hand through the hole. When my skin makes contact with hers, a shiver runs from my fingers all the way up my spine. I'm touching the person who has been living inside me for so long, who I've felt kick and move around, who I've tried to cover up, and now she's here and we're touching.
"Hello, Faith," I whisper to her, stroking her miniature arm. "I'm Papa, the one you grew inside. I've been waiting a long time to meet you."

Later that day, my parents and sister come to visit me. My parents were pretty shocked when I told them about the pregnancy soon after I told Tori, but now they're nothing but thrilled and relieved. I do a double take when I see Tori, I'd forgotten that she was five months pregnant. She tells me she's having twins. I tell her she's lucky she doesn't have to hide it.
After they leave, Jungkook and I also decide on Faith's middle name. I send April a text:
