《King's Corp》Chapter 25

After the elevator incident, Jungkook had been a bit clingy to Taehyung- rightfully so. After being convinced that his boss hated him and being somewhat ignored by the man, Jungkook felt the need to constantly be around him to well...compensate.
Taehyung finds it endearing. The way those big doe eyes are constantly trained on him or the way the younger follows him around with a bunch of documents clutched in his hands. Taehyung feels a strong urge within him to just drop everything and give the boy all his attention, but he can't. He has other concerns at hand.
Like finding out who the fuck is messing with his company.
Taehyung glares at the document as Jungkook stares at him worriedly.
"But how did anyone get access to secured documents like that? Only a very few people in the company know about these," Jungkook states with a frown.
Taehyung sighs and rubs his temples while staring down at the paper. "I don't know how they got access to this data but...this isn't good. This is direct information about the design of the car we're releasing. If this were to get released..."Taehyung pauses, feeling a sick pull at his gut.
"Do you know all the people who has access to this data?" Jungkook asks with a frown.
Taehyung nods, "only a few staff from the sales department should have access to this," he clicks his tongue and shoves the paper onto his desk. "Fuck, I need to go sort this out right now." He says while standing up abruptly.
Jungkook nods. "Should I come wit-"
"No bun, stay here and file this information for me."
Jungkook nods as the older storms out of the room, frowning ever-so-slightly as he watches him leave.
~
Taehyung stares at the figures in the room, raven eyes slightly narrowed into calculating slits. He leans forward on the desk and stares at the blond man in front of him.
"Mr Min, is it?" He asks. The blond nods, rather timid. "Do you know how much we are investing into this upcoming project?" Taehyung tilts his head a little, the action lacking aggression but still displaying a shiver-evoking sense of authority.
The man nods solemnly. "16..." he pauses, hesitates. Anxious. Taehyung stares at him, snake-like, his eyes- blood curdling poison in its very essence. "16 billion, sir," he finally responds, voice simmered down to the most cautious of whispers.
Taehyung nods, averting his gaze, now trailing a glance around the room. Penetrating the onlookers with tamed intimidation. "Did everyone catch that?"
A few nods are seen throughout the room. A mild, watered down chorus of " yes sir's" follow.
Taehyung smirks, face void of mirth. "Well then it should be granted you understand the severity of messing up such a project, hmm?"
More nods follow. This time however, no one makes a sound in reply, sensing their bosses bubbling aggression. Taehyung, however, doesn't yell. He doesn't shout or throw things across the room or make a fuss. His fury only slips through the small curve of his lips, an almost welcoming smile.
"One of you in here is a traitor to this company." He says simply, almost nonchalantly. The five employees freeze, looking around carefully amongst one another.
Taehyung sits back down in his chair, leaning back while spreading his thighs. He watches the employees silently. Watching their tense forms sweat in nervousness, watching them chew at their lips and fiddle with their fingers. Signs of discomfort...or perhaps a guilty conscious?
"Have a good day. You are dismissed." Taehyung says suddenly, causing the workers to lift their heads up in mild confusion.

"T-The meeting's over?" It's Kimberly who speaks, his ex-secretary.
He looks over at the intern, smirking. "Indeed."
The five employees hesitantly stand and leave the room, feeling an odd weight settle in their gut. Taehyung watches them leave, his dark eyes fixated on their movements. His face is eerily calm, no trace of anger or really any emotion at all.
It's only his sharp nails digging into his fists that gives away his wavering composure.
~
Jungkook watches as Taehyung walks back into the room, looking a little tense. "Did the meeting go well, Sir?" He asks from his desk.
Taehyung hums absentmindedly. "I have a few arrangements to make. I have another meeting tomorrow but you won't be attending that because you need to fill in for the client appointment I have," the man starts typing away at his laptop.
Jungkook nods, noticing how Taehyung looks a little distressed as he frantically shuffles through the documents on his desk. He looks down at his own pile of work before looking back up. "Sir... do you need any help with anything?"
Taehyung doesn't take a moment to ponder as he shakes his head 'no'. Jungkook frowns, pouting his lip out slightly at the older's dismissive behaviour. He continues to stare at the man for a few more seconds, watching as he takes out a cigarette and lights it. Jungkook looks away from him after a moment, feeling a pit of worry form in his gut.
~
Jungkook scurries into the break-room upon Mr Kim's late night request for a coffee. Taehyung had barely spoken to him the whole day, barely looked his way, he only gave him a few requests, this cup of coffee being one of them. So Jungkook made it his mission to make this the best coffee Taehyung has ever tried- he'll make it however close to perfect as he can. Maybe then... he thinks to himself as he walks towards the coffee machine. Maybe then he will pay attention to me.
Jungkook almost groans at his own thoughts. Taehyung is as busy as can be and here he is, selfishly whinging about his lack of attention towards him. Jungkook puffs out a little breath, feeling ashamed.
"...Jungkook?"
The boy jumps at the unexpected call of his names, eyes wide as he turns to face the person. He's eyes only widen when he spots who it is. "Oh...Ms Kimberely..."
The woman stares at him for a second, looking rather awkward before placing her own cup of coffee on the counter. "Urm...how are you?" She asks, shuffling uncomfortably on her feet.
He frowns slightly at that, not expecting any sort of greeting from someone who supposedly hated him. "I'm...I'm fine," he says, scratching his nape. "You?"
She stares at him for a moment before averting her gaze to the floor. A small sigh escapes her lips, "l-look," she starts, voice lacking that usual venom it holds. It makes the boy slightly confused, slightly unsettled. What is it that she wants? "I've been meaning to talk to you."
He tilts his head, questioning her statement. She doesn't look up to meet his eyes but continues speaking. "I...I know we haven't been on the best terms since you started working here and I haven't exactly been the nicest to you..."
Jungkook clutches the empty coffee cup in his hand and pulls it towards him, feeling wary from her words.
"But...but I wanted to...to urm..." she looks up at him, looking uncomfortable. "To apologise," she breathes out.

Jungkook's taken aback, his eyes blowing wide. "Apologise...?" He questions her, unsure of her motive.
She nods, biting the inner-corner of her cheek. "I...I guess I was suppose to say it a while ago after I got demoted but I never really got the chance." She leans against the counter and picks at a string dangling from a skirt. "I just...I dunno. I don't know if you know- well actually everyone in this company probably knows by now- but...but I guess you could say I have a thing for Mr Kim," she looks away, cheeks red. "When I was his secretary...I was head over heels for him," she laughs softly, her smile somewhat reminiscent.
Jungkook watches her carefully, feeling his heart rate pick up because he finds himself almost relating to her words.
"He fired me from being his secretary after I confessed my feelings to him and for the longest time, he didn't have another secretary." She looks up at him, "well, until you I guess."
"And...and I...I know you were just trying to do your job but I didn't like the fact Mr Kim had found a replacement for me." She smiles at him, rather weakly. "And I guess...I guess I took it out on you."
Jungkook is still surprised from her words, her words that lack their usual hostility.
"And for that, I'm...I'm sorry. It was a shitty thing to do and-and it didn't exactly work in my favour," she says with a shrug before tapping her 'intern' badge.
Jungkook opens his mouth but then closes it again, unsure of what to say or how to feel himself. After another minute of awkward silence, he shrugs. "It's okay," he picks at the edge of his sleeve. "Yeah I guess what you did is bad but...but I understand where you're coming from." He offers her an awkward smile.
She nods a little and looks down at her own cup of coffee. "Right..." she shuffles. God, it is so awkward. "I guess I'll see you around."
Jungkook nods, tense smile softening. "Sure."
With that she heads off and Jungkook lets out a small breath of air, feeling slightly dazed by the whole conversation. He shifts his attention to the cup of coffee and watches as the rich golden liquid slowly drips out of the machine into the cup.
~
"Your coffee, sir," Jungkook says while placing down the warm cup onto Taehyung's desk. Taehyung looks up from his computer screen and raises an eyebrow at the boy.
"What took so long?"
"Oh," the smaller says, looking a little startled under the mans firm questioning gaze. "I bumped into someone and-um- got caught up in a small conversation."
Taehyung hums, sounding a little unimpressed. Something in Jungkook's stomach tingles at that- not in the pleasant way. That sense of doubt rushes into him as he wonders if the older is mad at him again. He tries to push away the thought, especially after Taehyung had so carefully reassured him the other day that he wasn't. "I'm...I'm sorry," he blurts out.
Taehyung looks at him, looking a little tired. "Hm?"
"U-Uh, for taking too long."
The older lifts a finger in dismissal, silently telling him it's fine but the rather curt action causes Jungkook to frown. He bows his head and gnaws on his lips, trying to figure out something to say to the man to get at least a few words out of him- a reaction. After moments past, Jungkook slightly deflates and spins around to head back to his own desk.
However, before he can do so, a firm hand grips onto his wrist and turns him back around. "Sit," Taehyung says while gesturing towards his lap.
Jungkook eyes widen slightly and he looks down at the hold the older has on his wrist. He looks back at the man, noticing the way his eyes have fixated back onto his screen and before he can ponder over the request, Taehyung tugs at him firmly, causing him to almost fall into his lap.
Jungkook lets out a little yelp as he slips onto the older. Taehyung simply turns him around and pull him down onto his lap. The younger tries to hide his blush but the scarlet colour runs across his cheeks before he can stop it.
"You done with your work?" Taehyung asks while clicking onto some document.
Jungkook nods. "Yeah."
Taehyung's eyes quickly scan over to the time displayed on his screen. "It's pretty late, past your clock-out. You can go if you want."
Jungkook quickly shakes his head. "N-No, I wanna stay here...with you."
Taehyung nods, patting the boy's thigh a little with his free hand. Jungkook nibbles on his lip, feeling awfully shy for some reason as the older continues to focus on the screen. His tummy feels lighter just by being closer to the man, loving the touch of attention he's paying him.
He wonders to himself when he became like this? When he craved the simple touch of the older like nothing else? It slightly scared him, how dependent his emotions were on the man. But he doesn't dwell on it. Sitting here, on Taehyung's lap, feeling the warm patter of his heart behind him, Jungkook finds himself feeling content.
~
He doesn't know exactly how long has passed sitting here like this, watching the bright computer screen glow in the darkness as Taehyung works on several document that he doesn't have in him to pay attention to.
His eyes feel a little droopy from the constant exposure to the screen and the depths of the night allures his need for sleep. But he doesn't sleep, nor does he leave. Not when Mr Kim looks so...stressed. Jungkook notices the tiny details first. Like how the man is tense behind him, or how when he peeks over at him, his jaw always seems to be clenched, or the way he lets out small frustrated breaths.
It's only when he notices him digging his nails into his hand, clawing at the skin until its red and irritated does he speak up. "Sir?" He squeaks, voice filled with concern as he watches the man pick at his skin .
Taehyung doesn't respond, seemingly too fixated on what's on the screen to notice the younger's meek voice.
"Sir," Jungkook calls out a little louder, voice turning panicked as Taehyung claws deeper into his skin.
Again no repsonse.
Jungkook feels a lump in his throat when he sees the slightest drop of blood trickle past the supple skin. "Sir," he calls out breathlessly as he quickly reaches over and pulls the man's hand into his own.
This seems to snap Taehyung out of his sort of daze. He looks down at the boy who holds his hand with both of his.
"Sir..." Jungkook says, looking up at him with big rounded eyes, looking ever so distressed. "You're bleeding," he squeaks out, voice tiny.
Taehyung averts his gaze away from the boy's adorable eyes onto his own hand. "Oh..." he lets out, seeing the light smudge of blood on the skin of his hand. "Bad habit," he says dismissively. "Um, bun, pass me a cigarette from in ther-"
Before he can finish, Jungkook grabs a tissue and lightly dabs it against the bleeding spot. The boy looks back up at him, eyebrows furrowed in concern. "What's wrong?" He asks gently, voice like the crackle of fire in a frosty winter night; soothing.
Taehyung doesn't answer at first, instead opting to look away, trying to avoid those doey eyes that seep past his strong front, into his vulnerability. "Nothing..."
They both know its a lie.
Taehyung sighs after a moment of silence. "I'm just...scared."
Jungkook tilts his head, quietly questioning him.
Taehyung looks back at the boy and sighs again. "I just... I still haven't figured out who's got intel to all the company information. And-And I'm scared that... what if they release data on the new project? If that happens we would lose so much. The company may hit rock bottom again and the last time that happened...the last time..." Taehyung exhales shakily. "I don't want to disappoint him Koo. He died for this company and-and I'm already letting him down."
Jungkook sighs and gently pulls the older's head into the crevice of his neck. "Sir, you may not see it, but you're one of the best businessmen out there. I've never seen someone do business the way you do. You- you are powerful and...and I don' think that that's you pretending to be so. You truly are." He pauses, letting the older process his words. "You always say to me that you're a rabbit that learnt to roar like a lion but I feel like you forget that... you're not a rabbit. Or a lion. You're a human. You expect so much out of yourself but sir, as a human you can only do so much." He pulls away from the older and smiles at him. "And you are doing so much. You're one of the best CEOs out there." He embraces the older again and sighs. "Your father taught you well. And I think that no matter what...no matter what he will be proud of you."
Taehyung lifts his head for a moment and stares at the boy, his eyes looking a little dazed, awe-struck even. He finds his heart racing as he stares at the boy's fluffy hair and blushing cheeks and rosy lips and gentle smile and big pearly eyes.
He pulls him in closer, their lips hovering over each other's. "Promise me, bun," he whispers all of a sudden, his eyes appearing uncharacteristically desperate. He reaches his hand up, cupping the boy's cheek, his lungs suspended in his chest, heart erratic. "Promise me that no matter what happens..." He pauses, a small broken smile on his face. "...You'll stay."
And he knows it's pathetic. To beg someone to stay, to never leave and be by his side. But he can't help but be a little pathetic. Act a little desperate. Not when he feels so hopelessly pulled towards the boy's radiant warmth...so hopelessly bound to it, that essence of comfort. He can't help but be hopelessly attached. And the only thing pathetic about it really is the way his stupid heart betrays the warnings in his head. Let him fool himself just once, let him beg for a promise just this once. He hates vulnerability, the fear of losing yet another. But let him be vulnerable just this once. For him.
Jungkook's eyes widen slightly and his grip on the older's shoulder tightens. A promise? Jungkook doesn't like promises. They feel too superficial to him, a deceivingly false sense of hope. Promises are the weakest of ties, they're fragile, easily shattered, broken, lost, yet despite this they have the power of utter destruction, to wreak havoc and break what was once just innocent hope. Promises aren't meant to be broken. But neither are people. Neither are cities or homes or forests or even snowflakes. But those things are broken. Shattered. Ruined. Just like those pointless promises.
Yet it's something about charcoal eyes. Something about charcoal eyes, a wintery scent and a broken smile that makes Jungkook change his mind, just for a moment. Because just for a moment he lets himself believe in it; a promise. And so he puts his thoughts aside, stares down into those charcoal eyes. "I..." a moment of hesitation passes before he lets his breath carry out the words. "I promise," his words dissipate into the coldness of the night. Taehyung smiles and finally moves his hovering lips to meet the boy's awaiting ones.
And in true fashion, they seal their promise with a kiss, like hopeless romantics, kissing in the darkness of the office room as the dainty tufts of snow fall outside.
~
The man wears a crooked smirk on his face, staring into nothing in particular. The blonde beside him sighs. "So it's all done? You've sent all the documents to him?"
The man leans back, looking ever so smug. "I'm not one to slack. You know that."
The blond sighs. "Alright. Well, after this Kim is sure to fall so are your plans for the boy still up?"
A chuckle echoes through the hollow basement, the sinister noise seeping into grey walls as the man throws his head back in joy. "My plan isn't for Kim to just fall."
He tilts his head, "I want to ruin him, to hurt him." The man clenches his fist, eyes pooling with fire, with unsettled anguish. His voice drops to a whisper, an icy sound in the silent room. "The way he and his stupid father hurt me."
The blonde sighs, taking a drag out of his cigarette. "So are you going to hire a hitman-"
"I was thinking about it. But then I realised, what would be the fun in that?" The man says, pulling out a silver gun from behind his blazer.
The blond stares at the weapon, noticing the iridescent light reflecting off it. He hesitates for a moment. "Boss...I don't think it's the best idea for you to carry those things arou-"
