《King's Corp》Chapter 8

"So remind me again why you have come to raid my closet?" Jimin asks as he enters the room with a juice box.
Jungkook grunts out a response, something along the lines of Gala and fancy, but Jimin doesn't bother to interpret it. The blond seats himself on his bed and watches his best friend place several shirts in front of his chest before making a face and shoving the clothes back into the closet.
"Thanks for messing up my closet, bro," Jimin says while sipping his juice box.
Jungkook groans and the drops to the floor dramatically. He lays flat on the carpeted surface and kicks his legs up like a child. "There's nothing to wear!" He exclaims while stamping his fists into the ground in distress.
Jimin stands up from his seated position and walks towards the cupboard, still calmly sipping his juice box. "So you need to find an outfit for a Gala..?" He asks as he brushes past the distressed boy.
"Yes," Jungkook whines.
"And your going with..?" Jimin asks while trailing his hands over several shirts and trousers.
"Mr Kim, who else," Jungkook grumbles.
Jimin hums, "mmm, how is he? Still being a dick?"
At Jungkook's slight hesitance to respond, Jimin spins around and faces the boy with a quirked eyebrow.
"He's...confusing," Jungkook finally says.
"Confusing?" Jimin asks while spinning back around to look through his collection of expensive suits. "How so?"
"Well...Well one minute he's cold and arrogant and cocky and... and being all mean and stuff but then he's...he's kinda sweet and nice and he's buying me ice cream or giving me his scarf..." Jungkook trails off. "It's weird," he says after a moment of pondering.
Jimin hums, "Maybe he likes you," he says with a shrug.
Jungkook lets out a chortle, "yeah, as if."
"No, I'm serious. From what you're saying it sounds like he has a soft spot for you," Jimin continues as he picks up a green flowy shirt. He closes one eye and positions the shirt in front of Jungkook's face, testing the style on the boy. He shakes his head and puts it back before continuing to rummage through the clothes again.
"But...but he's so mean sometimes," Jungkook says quietly, lips pulled into a pout. "Why would he be mean if he likes me?"
Jimin glances over at the boy and lets a fond smile settle on his lips upon seeing his scrunched up features. "Some people have very different ways of expressing feelings, Jungkook. Don't expect everyone to buy you flowers and call you a princess."
Jungkook flushes at the comment, "no, I know but...but it's just..." Jungkook trails off not having the right words to describe his thoughts towards his boss. "Ugh...he's just so confusing! But I'm sure he doesn't like me. Plus, I think he's straight. And so am I so it doesn't matter either way," Jungkook rambles on.
Jimin pauses his actions and looks over at the boy. "Right," he says quietly, a soft bitterness to his tone.
"Anyways," Jungkook says while sitting up. "Anything interesting happening in your life? How's your job? Did you fix the toilet that you broke? Ooh oh! Anything interesting in your love life recently?" Jungkook fires out random questions at the blond. "Any guys you have your eyes on?" Jungkook says while wiggling his brows in a teasing manner.

Jimin has stopped his actions by now, his back turned to Jungkook but his body completely still and listening. "You haven't mentioned any guys in forever, Jimin! Surely you found someone and you're just not telling me about hi-"
"Jungkook," Jimin says lowly, his tone cold, warning.
The brunette quietens down. "Y-You're not... you're not still...?"
Jimin turns around wordlessly to face the boy. His caramel brown eyes meet Jungkook's, answering the unasked question with an untold answer. Jungkook looks down, gulping. "M'sorry... I shouldn't have said anything... I..." He trails off before letting his words dwindle down into silence.
Jimin takes a deep breath, letting the small noise slice through the stifling tension. He then spins around and grabs a shirt from the closet before approaching the younger boy with a soft smile.
"This one," he says while holding out a red shirt towards the brunette. Jungkook looks up at the shirt in front of him before slowly reaching out and accepting it. He lets his fingers grip onto the lusciously soft satin material, admiring the crimson fabric as it melts into a seamless pool in his palms.
"Chuck some trousers on with that and voila!" Jimin says, his smile widening. Jungkook nods and smiles back. "Thank you, Chim! You're the best!"
The brunette then stands up and rushes towards the door. "I have to go now. I have to be at the office to meet Mr Kim by six. I'll call you tonight and tell you how it goes, okay?" He says as he exits the room.
Jimin watches as the younger rushes off.
"Yeah, call me," Jimin says quietly to the boy's receding frame.
~
As Jungkook enters the company building, clad in the flowy red satin shirt tucked into a pair of black trousers and a silky tie dangling off his neck, he feels that familiar pool of nervousness settle in his gut. Jungkook decided to do some last minute research on this so-called Gala and found that it was one of the most prestigious, high-class events of the year. Important businessmen from all around the world were to attend and from working just a week in the business world, he knew what he should expect; A bunch of snobby rich people, bragging about their riches and scrutinising each other while adorning tight lipped smiles. Just the thought makes him grimace.
With a sigh, he pushes open the office door, but the sight inside makes him pause in his steps, knocking the air out of his gut. He blinks once, then again. And then once again.
Breath taking. There, standing in his crisp golden suit, charcoal hair gelled up to rest perfectly on his head is Mr Kim, and he looks breath taking. The man embodies perfection almost humbly, his mere stance exuding power, beauty, seduction. Staring at the man who casually inhales a puff of stinging cigarette smoke, Jungkook comes to the startling realisation that Mr Kim isn't perfect. Perfection is Mr Kim.
And the mere thought makes inhibition sweep throughout his entire being. The stifling presence of self consciousness now dwindles him down to feel smaller than he actually is. Despite feeling the soft touch of the red satin fabric kiss his skin, he feels naked, exposed, overwhelmingly ugly in the mere presence of this god-like man. Jungkook ducks his head with a red flush of embarrassment coating his cheeks.
"Oh," he squeaks out meekly. "I think I'm a bit u-underdressed?"
Taehyung doesn't say anything, he simply stubs out the cigarette and walks over to the boy, subtly scanning his attire with an unreadable expression on his face. Jungkook gulps and continues to stare at the ground, rubbing his pointed shoes against the tiled floor to distract himself from the awkward silence. Taehyung stops in front of the boy, causing Jungkook's body to tense up. The smaller startles when he feels the man's hand grip firmly onto his jaw before tilting his head up, causing their eyes to meet.

"Underdressed?" The ravenette asks, his voice low, almost a whisper. Jungkook tenses even further when his boss leans in closer to him, the scent of his sweet cologne and the vibrations of his gravelly voice making him dizzy as speaks;
"I think you look rather ravishing, bunny," he drawls out, the heat of his breath grazing the younger's sensitive ears. Jungkook flushes a hot scarlet, feeling breathless by his bosses remark.
What does he mean ravishing?! Is that a good thing? Is he joking or being serious?! Was that a compliment? A million thoughts run through Jungkook's head but they're all left unanswered as his boss simply makes his way out of the office. Jungkook stumbles behind him in a daze as he attempts to catch up with the man's long strides.
They both enter the car and the brunette awkwardly seats himself across the older. Still dwelling on what had just happened, Jungkook almost misses his bosses question.
"Oh..uh, huh?" Jungkook asks, still evidently flustered.
Taehyung rolls his eyes at the boy. "Pay attention when I'm speaking to you," he says bluntly before repeating himself. "You probably already know but there's going to be a lot of important people attending today."
Jungkook nods, feeling almost whiplashed by the change in the man's behaviour.
"I don't care what the situation is, I just need you to act professional. You can't afford any slip ups here, unless you want to make headlines tomorrow?"Jungkook gulps and nods again, feeling his anxiety kick in once again with Taehyung's words.
They continue the rest of the ride in silence. Taehyung calmly staring out the window and Jungkook calmly staring at his lap. To anyone else they look composed, cool, calm. To each other they look calm. So deceivingly calm.
Neither knows that the calm facade is only there to hide the calamity within them. Speeding hearts, stifling nerves, diminishing breathes, within their bodies the turmoil of frantic thoughts surge through them, capturing every inch of their being, holding them down. But they rest still, silent, undisturbed. Calm. So so calm.
It's scary what the skin can hide; Scary how little you know of someone despite being so close to them. Jungkook would never imagine that his cold, confident boss currently replicates the frantic nerves residing within his own stomach. It is only their tell-tale hearts that dare to expose such resemble between the polar opposite men, both hearts beating wildly in trepidation; The only difference being the reason why.
As the car comes to a stop, Taehyung looks over at Jungkook one last time, his eyes firm, hard, fixated on the younger with this overbearing intensity.
"Tonight..." he starts, seemingly lost in his own thoughts as he speaks to the younger. "We're going to meet someone very very important."
Jungkook tenses up at the words, feeling taken aback by the utter bitterness they hold.
~
The Gala is being held at an opera house. The mass expanse of the theatrical building is now filled with crowds of people, all wrapped in the richest most luxurious garments and adorning jewellery that exceeds the millions.
"Woah," Jungkook whispers as he stares wide-eyed at his surroundings. His eyes seem to be transfixed on the large chandeliers that dangle from the height of the structure, etching a vibrant glow across the space.
Taehyung looks over at the smaller and raises a brow. "What? Have you never seen a chandelier?"
Jungkook reluctantly averts his gaze from the lightening fixture and looks over at his boss. "I have...it's just...it's just..."
Taehyung stares at the boy, looking unimpressed. "Just what?"
Jungkook looks back over at the large chandelier. "It just so pretty," he whispers quietly, immediately feeling embarrassed by his own stupid remark. Jungkook is so busy dwelling over his own childish words that he seems to miss the way Taehyung's mouth slightly twitches upwards. And before he can witness the ghost of a smile, Taehyung drops his expression into his usual cold stare.
"We're not here to ogle over lighting," he states while striding forward. Jungkook walks up behind him, brushing past several men and women who don't hesitate to bore their eyes into his small figure. "We are here, however, to meet some new business partners," Taehyung tilts his head back to look at Jungkook and sends the boy a cunning smirk.
"Are you ready to be a businessman, Mr Jeon?" Taehyung asks, his eye brow raised in question.
Jungkook can barely answer because Taehyung is already marching ahead, leaving the boy to ponder over his words.
~
"You see that women over there?" Taehyung asks as he leans closer to Jungkook's ear, his lips hidden behind the glass of champagne that he cradles in his hand.
Jungkook looks in the direction that his boss gestures towards and nods when he spots a lady in a stunning black dress, talking to a man who seems around twice her age. "She's the heir of Kola Koka. She's one of my clients. The man next to her..."
Jungkook gasps before Taehyung can finish his sentence, "he's the CEO of Kola Koka..."
Taehyung nods, "Indeed. Elise already knows me, we have made a few business deals together. But I am yet to make a deal with the man himself. Now..." Taehyung says while spinning around to face the younger. "Your job is to go up to them, introduce yourself as my secretary, and try to lock in a business meeting with Mr Kola."
Jungkook feels like the winds been knocked out of him (that's twice in one day). He has to do what?! All by himself?
"Do you think you can do that?" Taehyung asks, his eyes trained on the younger in an almost unnerving manner.
Absolutely fucking not. "Yes," Jungkook squeaks out unconvincingly, eyes wide with nerves. He gives his head a small nod to affirm his confirmation because even to himself, he sounded so unsure. Taehyung lips tug into that sly smirk of his once again as he gestures his head towards the pair.
"The stage is yours."
Jungkook gulps and slowly starts to walk towards the man and the woman. He mentally preps himself for what he's going to say as he approaches them. He gulps down the lump in his throat as he finally stops in front of them, garnering the woman's attention almost immediately with his rather awkward presence. Mr Kola seems to be busy talking to someone behind them and Jungkook is almost glad. He can only deal with one intimidating person at a time.
"Um, do you need anything?" The woman asks rather rudely, her voice filled with this hostility that makes Jungkook almost run away.
Jungkook takes a small deep breath, clenches his fist in determination and then puts on his biggest fake smile. "Jeon Jungkook, I'm Kim Taehyung's secretary," he states while reaching out his hand for a hand shake.
The woman's hard glare slightly eases as her eyebrows raise up in surprise. "Oh, so you work for King's Corp?"
Jungkook nods, still adorning his fake smile that almost wears away in exhaustion.
"Mhm, is there anything I can help you with?" The woman now asks, tone much softer than before.
"Actually, I wanted to speak with your father about a possible meeting between our companies," Jungkook asks, mentally patting himself on the back for not stuttering.
The woman nods and then twists around, calling the man who seems to be enjoying light conversation with a some middle aged women. "Daddy?" She asks as she pats his back.
The man turns around to look at her. "Yes, darling? Is anything the matter?"
She gestures towards Jungkook before speaking, "he wanted to talk to you about a possible meeting between our company. He's the secretary fo-"
The man doesn't let her finish, instead he turns towards Jungkook and smiles before speaking. "Ah, wel-come. Which over-seas mar-ket do you work for? Oh let me guess...technology...oh no no, clothing right?" The man speaks slowly as he enunciates each and every word.
Jungkook frowns. What the hell is this?
"Actually, daddy, he-" the woman tries to speak up but the man cuts her off once again.
"Where- did-you-come-here-from?" He asks, once again speaking slowly.
Jungkook furrows his eyebrows. "Actually, sir. I live here in New York."
The man shoots his eyebrows up in surprise upon hearing Jungkook's fluent accent. "Oh my, you sound so fluent. How long have you stayed here for."
Jungkook slightly shuffles his weight from one leg to another, feeling uncomfortable by the man's random questions. "A while now," he says with a small smile.
The man frowns, "ah, is that so. Well then, what is it you needed to talk to me about?" He asks, tone dropping to one of boredom.
Jungkook gulps down the ball the nerves that had reformed in his throat before speaking up once again. "I'm Jeon Jungkook, working for King's Corp. Nice to meet you Mr Kola," Jungkook says while reaching out his hand.
Mr Kola's eyebrows dart up in surprise upon hearing the company name, much like his daughter's did earlier. He hesitantly reaches out his hands and shakes Jungkook's. "Nice to meet you too..."
~
Where the hell is Mr Kim? Jungkook wonders as he aimlessly walks around. After finishing his talk with Mr Kola, Jungkook had turned around in hopes of seeing his boss waiting for him where he left, but to his dismay, the man was no where in sight. So now here is, wandering around this fancy Gala filled with snobby rich people like a little lamb who lost its owner. Jungkook almost gives up and starts heading towards the exit but a sudden tug on his wrist causes him to stop his actions as he yelps.
He's pulled into a dark corner and looks up in alarm to see who had grabbed him. To his utter relief, it's his boss, staring at him with a bored expression. "So?" the man questions, waiting for Jungkook to speak up.
"So what?" Jungkook squeaks out, still flustered from the sudden action.
Taehyung rolls his eyes. "Did you manage to arrange the meeting?"
Jungkook stares at the man blankly for a second before pulling out a small card from his pocket. "Friday next week, 2:30 pm at out company. Here are his details," Jungkook says while handing over the card.
Taehyung slowly takes the card into his hand and inspects it before looking back up at the younger, his expression unreadable like always.
But as he says, "you actually arranged a meeting?", his tone sounds slightly surprised, causing Jungkook to look down at his shoes, feeling somewhat shy from his bosses words.
"Yeah," the brunette mumbles.
Taehyung doesn't say anything more and continues to just silently observe the boy.
He hums, "well then..." but he cuts himself off mid-sentence as his eyes fixate on something behind him.
Jungkook furrows his eyebrows and turns to look at what the man is staring at and upon doing so, he too feels himself freeze.
His heart beat accelerates and his breathing ceases at the sight.
No no no no this can't be happening. It has to be a dream. Jungkook thinks as panic swarms his body.
He then feels Mr Kim grip onto his arm tightly, the man turns to him with piercingly sharp eyes, something dark now residing beneath his irises. "You know the important person I was talking about?" He whispers, fingernails unconsciously digging into Jungkook's pale wrist.
"It's him," he spits, venom spilling past his lips in the form of just these two words.
"Don't mess this up," he whispers again before dragging the boy in the direction of the two men.
But Jungkook hears none of it. The ringing in his ears is just too loud.
~
"Mr Grey, Hoseok, nice to see you again," Taehyung greets the CEO and his secretary with a tight-lipped smile. Jungkook doesn't say a word, he just stand frozen behind Taehyung.
"Ahh, good to see you too, Kim Taehyung," the older man speaks up, his voice coated with sugary poison that makes the two men feel sick to their stomach.
"How's your company coming along? You handling things well on your own?" The older ask, something twisted and sly ringing along with his every word.
Taehyung tightens his jaw, "yes. I'm handling everything fine. Thank you for your concern."
