《King's Corp》Chapter 4

Jungkook wakes up to the feeling of a soft couch beneath his head. With strokes of sunlight painting his face he lifts his head up confusedly to inspect his surroundings. He frowns when he notices the familiar setting. His office room. Did he fall asleep in the office? A feeling of mortification washes over him. Did he fall asleep in front of Mr Kim?
If so, Jungkook is a dead man.
The brunette meekly sits up on the couch and rubs his eyes when that tall brooding figure enters the office. The man walks while cradling a steaming hot cup of coffee, adorning a fresh new navy blue suit. Jungkook gulps in fear when Taehyung shifts his eyes over to him.
"G-Good morning, sir," he calls out quietly, bracing himself to get his head blown off.
The man replies with a simple nod and then walks over to his desk. He puts down the coffee and then fiddles with a stack of files before speaking. "I checked your completed files last night so you can go home for the rest of the day. It's the weekend."
Jungkook nods cautiously, still unsure of whether he's going to face the man's wrath or not. He slowly stands up and heads to the door. "U-Uh, thank you, sir." Once again the man simply nods in response but doesn't say anything. Jungkook stops at the exit and hesitantly turns around to face his boss once again. He stares at the man wordlessly while he fiddles with his fingers.
Taehyung looks up at the feeling of the younger's eyes on him. He stares back at the boy who quickly averts his gaze away from him.
"Mr Jeon?" Taehyung asks, feeling a smirk tug at his lips. Jungkook slightly jumps and looks up at the older with wide doe-eyes. Taehyung slowly gets up from his desk, the smirk that was once brewing upon his lips now out on full display. He walks towards the boy who immediately cowers away from him like a small rabbit. Jungkook unconsciously backs away from the man as he approaches him until his back presses against the door.
Why did I stop?! Stupid Jungkook. Now he's going to yell at you! Stupid stupid stupid.
The man walks up towards the boy until he's towering over him. Jungkook can't help but think that this has happened too many times- the man hovering over him while he tries not to piss his pants in fear.
"Why'd you stop, Mr Jeon?" Taehyung drawls out lowly, his eyes flashing with a hint of mischief.
Jungkook doesn't answer, he instead opts to stare down at the tiled floor.
"Hmm, why are you so quiet now, huh bunny?"
Jungkook darts his head up at the nickname, not knowing whether to be offended or scared. Maybe a mixture of both. Taehyung leans in closer to the boy. Nope nope, never mind, he's definitely just scared.
"You seemed to be rather talkative in your sleep though," the ravenette tilts his head, a mocking brow rising in his favour.
Jungkook wants to scream. Oh dear holy spirits, help me for I have fucked up.
"I-uh- s-s-sorry," Jungkook stutters, shrinking into himself as his face blushes a bright pink.
"Do you regret falling alseep in my office room?" Taehyung asks.
Oh my god, here it comes. He's going to fire me. Oh no. "Yes sir," Jungkook says while bowing his head in shame.
"Hmm, why is that? Was my chest not a comfortable enough pillow for you?"

Jungkook self-implodes.
HE DID WHAT?! Please tell me, I didn't fall alsleep on my boss-
"S-Sir, did I..."
"...fall alseep on me? Yes, yes you did."
The brunette has never been so red in his life. How embarrassing is this? Imagine falling asleep on your boss on the third day of work. And this isn't just any boss, this is THE Kim Taehyung. Who do you think you are, Jungkook, fucking, sleeping beauty?
Taehyung raises his eyebrow, "Mr Jeon?"
Jungkook sighs and forces himself to break away from his thoughts. He already knows what's going to happen. He's going to lose his job. Way to go, Jungkook. All this hard work and you lost it over a nap. He knows that there is no point in explaining, his life is just too unfortunate. And plus, he doesn't take Mr Kim to be a man to feel sympathy towards his horrible sleep schedule. "I'm sorry, sir," he finally says, head bowing down in shame as he tries to keep his composture.
Taehyung stares at the smaller for a few seconds, observing his frown. He then sighs and steps away from him. "Hmm, well, go home and get some proper rest. I don't want you snoozing around in my office any more," he speaks in that dreadfully cold tone of his.
Jungkook shoots his head up once again, his eyes now sparkling with a newfound sense of gratitude.
"Thank you, sir," he cheers, almost bouncing up and down in relief. For whatever reason, Mr Kim didn't fire him, and for that he is very thankful. Jungkook grins giddily and bids the man good bye before rushing off.
Jungkook races through the lengthy halls and hastily walks out the building. He jogs to the bus stop, just in time to catch the bus, and makes his way down to the back of the bus where he finds an empty seat.
As the large vehicle stumbles through the streets, the sky abruptly bursts into a copious stream of tears. Jungkook leans his head against the window and watches the water pour over the glass. It creates a blurry mural of yellow taxis, bustling crowds and towering buildings that sets a gentle smile on his cheeks. Jungkook has always loved the lively atmosphere that comes with New York city. Ever since he came here at the age of 14 he's been drawn to the large crowds and the vibrant billboard ads that fill the landscape. He's always found a sense of comfort being in a placed that's filled with people. Despite how agitating it could be to bump shoulders every time you tried to get anywhere, he found it better than that sickeningly quiet silence that consumes him when he is alone.
Jungkook has always preferred drowning in a crowd of people that drowning in his own suffocating thoughts. Call it a false sense of comfort, if you will.
The brunette sighs deeply as he picks himself up from the seat. He trots over to the exit and thanks the driver before hopping off. The minute his steps foot onto the gravelly pavement his body is hit by the plummeting rain that he was once admiring. He tucks his head under his arms and makes a run for it, using his speed to his advantage as he races through the streets. He finally stops at that familiar small apartment and smiles to himself.
He enters the apartment and relishes in the warmth the greets him. He tugs off his wet coat in a haste, swinging it onto the rack before slowly walking into the living room. His eyes land on a tuft of greyish hair peeking from the couch.

"Hi, momma," he speaks gently as he approaches the woman and takes a seat next to her. The woman looks over at him blankly and then blinks in confusion.
"Who....who are you?" She whispers with furrowed brows.
Jungkook feels a pang in his chest at her words. A sad smile drifts onto his lips as he gently puts his hand over her's.
"I'm Jeon Jungkook, your eldest son," he reminds her. The woman continues to stare at him blankly before nodding.
"Jungkook," she tests the name on her lips. She slightly smiles at him while nodding. "It's a-a nice name."
Jungkook chuckles and then snuggles into his mother's side. "I got a new job, momma," he says, despite having already told her a few days ago.
The woman nods, "is that so? How is it like, J-Jungkook?" she asks, the name sounding foreign and awkward as she speaks.
Jungkook sighs. "Kookie, you call me Kookie. Not Jungkook."
His mum nods once again. "Kookie," she says. "How was...was.." she blinks, then blinks again, looking rather lost. A painful smile stretches across his lips. "My job was fine, momma," he whispers, inaudible to her.
"Do you remember if you took your pills or not?" Jungkook then asks, lifting his mother's hand up and pointing to the small wrist band that has the time for when she needs to take her medicine.
The woman ponders for a second before nodding. "Oh yes, that girl gave it to me."
Jungkook chuckles, "Brianna, her names Brianna. Where is she now..."
"...Jungkook, you're back," a blonde-haired girl says as she holds a wailing child in her arms.
The smaller boy spots the brunette and instantly stretches his arms towards him. "H-Hyungie!" he cries.
Jungkook smiles and walks towards the boy. "Why are you crying, Seonnie?"
The boy doesn't answer and just buries his head into his brother's neck. Jungkook looks over at Brianna and tilts his head in question.
"He's been in a bit of a mood today. Woke up grumpy and refused to go to school. He's not sick but he threw a complete fit when I told him he had to go so I let him stay for today."
Jungkook frowns and looks over at the sniffling boy in his hands. That didn't sound very much like his brother at all. He gently strokes the boy's head and then nods over at the girl.
"Hm, okay, I'll see what's up with him. You can get off a bit early today since I came home early. Thanks, Bri."
The girl smiles and walks over to the boy on Jungkook's shoulder. She ruffles his hair and smiles at him sweetly. "I hope you feel better, Seonnie."
Seonjin lifts his head up, still hiccuping, and whispers. "Bye bye, Bri."
The girl pinches his wet cheeks and then spins around to the woman sitting on the couch. "Bye Ms Hwasa. See you again on Monday." Jungkook's mother nods and smiles at the girl. Soon, the blond-haired girl picks up her belongings and exits the apartment, bidding one final farewell to the family.
Jungkook looks over at his brother and frowns. "What's wrong, Seonnie? Why are you crying? Why didn't you want to go to school?"
The small boy looks up at Jungkook with big teary eyes and shakes his head. "J-Just didn't feel like it, Hyung."
Jungkook frowns a bit longer but slowly eases back into a smile. "Okay then, how about we eat some ice cream to cheer us up?"
The smaller perks up at the mention of his favourite dessert. "I-Ice cream?"
"Mhm," Jungkook hums while grinning. "Sound good?"
Seonjin cheers merrily. "Y-YEAH! ice cream ice cream ice cream," he chants happily, his tears long forgotten.
Jungkook lifts the small boy and places him on his shoulders before running to the kitchen with the younger clinging onto him. "Hyungie is superman!" Seonjin shouts while giggling.
Jungkook laughs, "I thought you were superman?"
Seonjin shakes his head. "S-Seonnie is only little and can't ride a bike yet but hyung is big and can ride a big boy bike without falling and and Hyung gives Seonnie a lot and a lot of ice cream and-"
Jungkook chuckles, "how bout we both be superman? Is that okay?"
Seonjin nods excitedly. Jungkook smiles and places the boy onto the counter before opening the fridge. He takes out the ice cream and hands the chocolate flavoured dessert to the small boy. Seonjin kicks his feet excitedly and accepts the bowl with a wide smile.
"Thank you, Hyungie!"
Jungkook fondly ruffles the boy's hair and watches him yammer away animatedly about random things.
"Hyung?" Seonjin calls out as Jungkook washes the now-empty bowl.
"Can you play with me now? Since I didn't see you yesterday? Please Hyungie!?"
Jungkook frowns a little and turns to look at his brother. "Seonnie..." he trails off while eyeing his brother apologetically. "I've got a lot of work to do today. You know that hyung is really busy with his new job right? How bout we play another day?"
The younger instantly drops his smile and looks down with a slight pout. "Okay..." he whispers sadly.
Jungkook sighs as a heavy feeling settles in his heart. He walks over to his brother and hugs him. "You know why I got to do all this work, right, Seonnie?"
The boy nods slowly, still looking down. "S-So Seonnie can go to school and Seonnie can e-eat more yummy ice cream and-and mummy can have the medicine and get better."
Jungkook smiles weakly. "See, you do know. So don't be upset with hyung, okay?"
Seonnie nods but then his lower lip starts to wobble. "I-I miss a-appa," he sniffles.
Jungkook's face hardens as the boy speaks. "H-He would always play with me and-and-"
"Seonnie," Jungkook interrupts sternly. "I told you not to... you know what, nevermind. How about I call Jordan and ask if he wants to come and play?" Jungkook asks while forcing on a stiff smile.
Seonjin instantly lights up, "YES! Jordan is my bestest best bestest bestiest best friend..."
Jungkook lets his brother ramble on as he takes a deep breath. He finds his body tensing as he replays those words over and over again in his head.
I miss appa.
~
Monday seems to roll around a lot faster than Jungkook anticipated and before he knows it, he is trudging back to work. He enters the office, attempting to once again greet everyone but still doesn't get acknowledged. He doesn't mind it as much now so he just casually strolls to his desk. His boss is wearing a bright red suit today, almost catching Jungkook off guard with how flashy he looks.
"Woah..." Jungkook mutters before he can stop himself. The man looks up and lifts his brow as a smirk plays on his lips.
"What is it, bunny?"
Jungkook's eyes widen at the nickname. Why does he keep calling me bunny? Oh god, is this going to be a permanent thing?! He averts his gaze away from the man and looks down with a slight blush. "U-Uh you look very different today, sir," He says shyly. "I-I like your suit."
The man snickers before looking back at his work. "I have a photo shoot for an advertisement today," he says while clicking away at his laptop. "Very busy today."
Jungkook tilts his head, "oh? you don't have any mentions of a photoshoot on your schedule?"
Taehyung looks up, eyes startlingly sharp. "And whose fault is that?"
Jungkook ducks his head in apology. "I-I'm sorry sir, I'll add it t-to your schedule right away."
"Mr Jeon," the man calls out sternly, causing Jungkook to freeze in his spot.
"Didn't I tell you to stop stuttering? You sound like a child when you speak. How will you ever present anything in a meeting if you can't even speak properly?"
Jungkook turns his head in shame, "I'm really trying to w-work on it, sir. I just get nervo-"
"Well, you're going to have to fix it soon. We have an official meeting with a few other major companies in a few days, I'm sure you know. I want you to present some of the data you have found from your last two tasks."
Jungkook's eyes widen. "You want me to...present?"
The man nods. "So fix your interpersonal skills. Stop blaming it on your nerves and suck it up." Taehyung smirks lowly seeing the cowardly expression of the boy.
Jungkook nods and quietly walks over to his desk. He gnaws on his lip, wary of the eyes that still watch him.
"I'll ask you to randomly present an idea throughout the day," Taehyung speaks up. "It might help you improve."
Jungkook looks up with slight hesitation and nods. "Yes sir."
~
Time stretches by slowly that day. Taehyung goes to his photoshoot and Jungkook continues working at the office (Taehyung demanded that he stay in the office and not come with him because he doesn't need his "assistance"). When Taehyung arrives back at the office, the sun is settling down beneath the line of clouds. Jungkook greets the man and watches as he walks over to the glass windows that form the walls of the office room.
Taehyung shoves his hands in his pocket and stares off into the city that is glistening from the sun's final rays. The man is silent for a while, letting the repetitive tapping of the keyboard flood the room before he finally speaks.
"Present an idea to me."
Jungkook blinks, not expecting the man's first words to him after his arrival to be those. Jungkook flits through his mind for any ideas and then hesitantly starts speaking when he thinks of one.
"Uhh, I t-think technology-"
He's cut off by Mr Kim's piercing glare. "Stop stuttering," the man orders while staring directly into his eyes. He then slowly approaches the boy with a frown on his lips. "You started off with 'I think'. Have you not learnt any basic form of marketing?" The man scolds.
Jungkook bows his head in embarrassment as a red shade brushes over his cheeks.
"You might have a brilliant product but no one's going to believe it's brilliant unless you present it with confidence." Taehyung continues. "Imagine this, you're a suspect for a murder scene and when asked if you're the murderer, you say 'I think I'm not the murderer. Do you think the people will believe you?"
Jungkook shakes his head and fiddles with his fingers, looking like a small child getting scolded by their parents.
"Try again. This time, don't mess up," Taehyung says firmly.
Jungkook nods and takes a small deep breathe.
"Technology these days are coming to us in many unique forms," Jungkook starts, daring to meet the man's scorching stare. "From smartwatches, phones, tablets, computers, TVs and even cars. But with all these new forms of technology, we're all missing the bigger picture," he continues, trying to picture himself in a meeting room in front of people.
Mr Kim leans in closer to the boy, intimidating him as he scrutinises his every word with his eyes. "And what is that?" The man asks lowly.
Jungkook gulps and steps back a bit, feeling suffocated by the intense stare. "W-we, you-I," Jungkook stutters out.
Taehyung's eyes seem to darken even more, causing shivers to run down Jungkook's back.
"Pathetic," Taehyung spits. "You let your nerves get the best of you and let yourself fall apart. What good of a businessman are you if you can't speak. As my secretary, you should be able to do all these things. But you can't. It seems that all your prestigious college degrees are just some papers with no meaning."
Jungkook trembles in his spot, taking in the man's words. He wants to scream. He's trying his hardest to improve, trying his hardest to adapt but all Mr Kim sees are his small flaws. The man is truly is ruthless.
Taehyung smirks, staring at the cowering boy.
Ahh, it seems that the bunny is finally giving up.
But then Jungkook looks up once again, meeting the man's eyes with his own firm gaze.
And once again, Taehyung is wrong.
Jungkook doesn't give up.
"I'm sorry sir, I will work harder and improve. I'll try- no- I'll make sure I fix up my speaking skills before the meeting. You have my word."
Taehyung's taken aback. He stares at the smaller boy in awe, not understanding how he hasn't given up yet. Anyone else would have left this job by now so why is he still here. It's intriguing. This little bunny is so so intriguing. He reminds him of someone he once knew.
Taehyung scoffs. "I honestly doubt you can do it... But it's up to you to prove me wrong."
Jungkook nods firmly, his fists clenched in determination and his big eyes swirling with the passion to succeed. "I will, sir." Despite all the pushbacks, Jungkook still wants to be here, still wants to work as his secretary.
The boy clearly loves what he does.
And with this thought, Taehyung grimaces.
Don't get attached to this job, Bunny...
it might just get you killed.
