Over the next two days, they dont let me leave my room. I tried to leave me today but they stopped me. Remi and I go for some bobba tea. I get the mango flavor, and sit down across from her.
"So, you feeling all better?"
"Yes Remi, I have told you for the past three days that I am fine."
She smiles.
"Just making sure."
We sit there in silence.
"So tell me about John."
She almost chokes on her drink.
"What about him?"
"Like, what was he like before I came?"
She sits back.
"Well when he first came he pretended to be a cripple."
My eyes widen a bit. Why would he pretend to be a cripple?
"Arlo, the old king, was suspicious of him, and one day ambushed him. John lost his cool, and beat them up, and told them that if they spilled his secret, he would 'dethrone him'. But then Sera lost her powers, and each day his sanity was slipping away. Eventually he started the whole Joker thing, where he would beat up random people. Then he attacked the highest ranking students, one by one. During our battle, he took on everyone and beat the shit out of us. Then Isen exposed his true identity, and now he is the king of Wellston."
When did John become like this? I know in middle school he was beat up, but then he found his ability, and started defending himself. Was me leaving really that much that it pushed him to hide his ability?
"He was cruel, and merciless. We had this thing called the Safe House, where people could have a safe space, but he threatened to beat up people there, and beat up some of the members. But its weird, I haven't seen of heard him beat up one person since you got here."

"That's probably because he doesn't want me to see him like that. As long as I'm here, he probably wont attack anyone."
"Thats good."
"Yeah..."
I swear I am going to kill that weasel of yours.
What do you mean?
Isen, I am going to kill Isen.
What?!
I'm sorry (Y/N), I have tried to be good for you, but he just crossed the line. I'm sorry.
I jump up.
"(Y/N) what's wrong?!"
"John is going to hurt Isen. Come with me."
I grab her hand and run into the ally-way. I open a portal to the school. I start to run.
"How did you know?"
"We sorta have a telepathic bond. We can communicate through thoughts, but only if we are within 10 miles of each other. "
"So your ability takes the twin telepathy to a whole new level."
"Yeah."
We run through the halls, asking anyone if the saw John. Then we saw a group of students huddling around windows. I shove my way through, the crowd and look out the window. John was punching Isen. His limp body was covered in blood, and even though he was unconscious, John still punched him.
"JOHN!"
He stops and looks up at me. He turns back to Isen and throws him into the wall. He takes a step towards him, but I already jumped through the window and was standing in front of him, my eyes glowing a deep (E/C).
He charges at me, ready to punch me. He is so blinded by anger that he would even attack me. I dodge his punch and jump in front of Isen.
"John I don't want to fight you. But I will if I have to."
He comes at me with a kick, that I attempt to block with my arm, but I underestimated the force of the kick and I get blown back, my arm completely shattered. I scream in pain, my head bleeding.

I still dont have my full energy back. Isen's ability does enhance his strength, but damn.
"NO JOHN!"
Tears dwell in my eyes. I activate Zeke's ability, and in a flash I am right next to him. I grab his face and slam it into the ground. I see Remi, Blyke, and Elaine take Isen away.
"At least he wouldn't attack his own friends. What happened to you John?"
He pushed me away, and pins me to the ground.
"WHY?! WHAT DID HE DO?"
I teleport myself up and John falls on his face. He slowly gets to his hands and knees. I grab his hair and turn his to face me. His nose is bleeding, and so is his forehead.
"Why are you doing this John?"
Thats when I notice that there is tears in his eyes.
"I-I just dont want you to get hurt again. Since you've been here, you have been hurt, and just want you to be happy for once in your life."
I let go of his hair and kneel down, cupping his face.
"I am happy here though John. I'm with my brother that I haven't seen for years, new friends, and I am finally away from that wretched woman."
Tears fall from both our faces.
"But what did you risk to be here?"
My face falls.
"You lost the only one that you could call a parent. Safety, even the one you called love, just so you could see me again. (Y/N), was it worth it? To be here with me, to make new friends, to date Isen?"
"Of course it was!" I hug him.
"I love you John. Please dont hurt him any further."
He nods. I pull away and help he helps me up. I look around, and it looks as if the entire student body just watched that fight.
"Well it looks like my secret is out."
"Yeah."
I put my arm around his shoulder, and we help each other limp to the docs office. On the way, he tells me that Isen asked him if he could date me. Since John is super overprotective, he eat the shit out of him.
When we walk in, I see Isen lying in the bed getting checked out. I limp over. He barley opens his eyes and smiles at me.
"Hey (Y/N)."
"Hey. I talked to John about why he attacked you."
"Really?"
He looks at John and then back at me.
"He said it was ok now."
His face lights up.
"Well whats your answer? Will you go on a date with me?"
I smile and nod.
"Yes. I would Love too."
He smiles.
"Yes!"
John and I sit in the waiting room. I look at him and he looks deep in thought.
"Whats wrong?"
He looks at me his eyes showing a hint of fear.
"What if they were to publish this in the school newspaper?
My face falls.
"Then Mom would..." My voice trails off and guilt consumes me. He hugs me.
"I'm not going to lose you again (Y/N)."
"I'm not worried about mom."
He pulls away.
"Then who?"
I look away, looking at Isen's sleeping body.
"You know who."

An Unwavering Craftsman
Given the hereditary nature of classes, everyone expects Damien—the child of two high-tiered adventurers—to be granted a high-tier combat class of his own. Expectations are betrayed, however, when Damien finds himself instead saddled with a crafting class of the lowest possible tier: [Neophyte Tailor]. Left practically crippled compared to those with better classes, Damien wants to avoid becoming a pawn in the machinations of the nobility, desiring only to grind his level in peace while wondering why the usual rules of inheritance were broken. Was it his desire to excel by his own effort, rather than an unearned blessing from a god? Did the Five take offence at his opinions on the unfairness of hereditary classes? Or maybe it was something to do with the alien voice that intruded on his ceremony? A voice that offers great power, and freedom from the tyranny of the Five, but that never names its price. This story is litRPG-lite. While the class someone possesses controls most of their lives, people don't get dinged at for every level they gain, nor can they see their status without undergoing a special ritual. The MC has no romantic interest. Crafting is merely a way to game the system, and doesn't feature heavily in the story, aside from a few descriptions on how they're carrying out the system abuse. There is, on one unfortunate occasion, maths. The pace is quick. This was a participant in the Spring 2022 writathon. (i.e. it was posted as-written at high speed. I may give it another editing pass in the future.)
