《RESCUED AND RISEN》Chapter 44

"Gio, I know I had sworn to be available twenty four hours, whenever you call me but sometimes I need at least an hour or so to myself." I said to him as I met him outside the warehouse."It's the middle of the night."

"And do you have anything more important to do at this time?" Gio asked. "It's not like you have a pregnant wife you had to leave at home to come out here."

"I may not have a pregnant wife but you did interrupt me from something important." I said to him. "I was much more relaxed than being out here."

"What? Did you get lucky tonight or something?" Gio asked raising a brow. "Excellent, now you understand what it feels like when you always seem to have bad timing."

"Can we just deal with this and get it over with so I can go back home?" I asked him.

"Does this means that she's actually at your apartment? Wonder how Amy feel about that...or is it Amy?" Gio asked amused.

"Did you call me out here to have guy talk or so that we can solve a problem?" I asked him ignoring his question.

"So it is. When did this happened? I thought you had denied that there was ever going to be anything between you and her." Gio continued.

"Gio, I can say anything I want and with all respect I doubt Amy's and I current situation is any of your concern right now." I said to him. "Now can we please go get this over with."

"Did you know?" I heard Marcos said as he walked into the conference room where Gio, Paolo and I as well as few of the other guys were sitting waiting to have a group meeting with all the members of higher rank.

"Know what?" I asked feigning clueless though I was pretty sure I knew what this is about.

"Did you know about Amy?" Rinaldo asked once again as he sat on the chair on the opposite side of the table.

"What about her?" I asked innocently.

"Don't play dumb with me Lucas." he said sounding annoyed. "Did you know about Amy being my daughter!?"

"Look Rinaldo..." I started to reply but Carter's voice cut me off along with the murmurs of the others who were present.

"What?" Carter asked in surprised. He had just entered the room with us.

"What's this about Amy being your daughter? I'm not sure I heard you correctly."

"Carter that is exactly what I just said." Rinaldo replied looking at his son. "Amy is your sister."

"What? How is that so!?" Carter asked angrily. "Answer me Dad!"

"Her mother and I had a history. We met some years ago when I was in

Barbados." Rinaldo responded. "I never saw her again until few days ago and figured it out."

"When you were in Barbados? Amy is younger than I am so that means it was after mom?" Carter responded as he put the pieces together. "You cheated on her! Does she know!?"

"Carter I suggest you lower your tone with me. You may be an adult but I'm still your father!" Rinaldo responded.

"And a cheating lying bastard too. Does mom know about this? How you went off and screw some other woman making her pregnant!?"

"Your mom and I never had a normal relationship! We were both forced into that arranged marriage at the time. She knew I didn't love her to be faithful... "

"You son of a ....."

"That's enough!" Gio said slamming his hands down on the table as he stood up. "I get that the both of you are angry at each other right now but what's done is done. You're going to have to deal with it and solve your issues some other time but right now this here is an important meeting, that's why you're all here together. You can deal with past issues after we finished having some serious discussions."

Amy's POV

"So he was more upset about the fact that Marcos cheated on his mom than me being the product?" I asked Lucas.

"It's basically the same thing Amy, but he was more upset about what Rinaldo did and the fact that he was just finding out about now." Lucas replied.

"Do you think he's going to take it out on me?" I asked concerned.

"I don't think so, he's been warned not to. You're innocent to what happened." Lucas replied.

We were currently in Lucas's home office and he was telling me that Carter heard Marcos said that I was his daughter and they had clashed. I couldn't feel bad about them falling out because it wasn't my fault, it was just my father's past catching up with him. I was wondering if his wife heard as yet or even Adena, how did they take it or how were they going to take it when they find out. Lucas was sitting at his desk working on something on his laptop while I was seated on a sofa which was in opposite direction of the desk. I noticed how Lucas kept stretching his neck and moving it from side to side as if it was stiff.

"Are you alright?" I asked watching him.

"Hmm," Lucas responded without looking up at me. "I'm fine."

"It seems you have a knot in your neck." I pointed out.

"Amy, I said I'm fine." he responded.

I've noticed that Lucas seemed to have issues with letting people in. You would think that after us being together more than once, he'd started letting me in by now, I'm guessing it was a mafia man pride thing. Getting up from where I was seated, I made my way over to him.

"What are you doing Amy?" Lucas asked looking at me.

"I'm going to help you get rid of the knot." I said to him as I round him.

"I already told you I'm alright. Why won't you listen?" Lucas said to me.

"Is that why you keep rotating your neck ever five minutes?" I asked as I put my hands on his shoulders and started massaging that area and near his neck.

At first Lucas tensed and tried protesting but after a few seconds he let out a sigh and relaxed into my hands. I was really curious as to why Lucas seemed so closed off most of the time and try to keep people out.

"Have you always had these trust issues and try to keep people out?" I asked him as I massaged his shoulders.

"What?" Lucas asked me.

"You seem to have extreme trust issues and I've noticed you try to keep people out." I said to him. "It's like you're afraid to let people in. Why is that? Did something happened with you and someone that..."

"Amy you're being really annoying now, asking too many damn questions." Lucas snapped as he caught my hands and pushed them off his shoulders. "I told you I was fine, yet you still insisted on giving me a massage and now thinking that was an opportunity to ask me stupid questions? What is it? You trying to get into my head? Or somehow fix me?Why the hell are all women so annoying!? You all dont know when to give up!"

I jumped back from him feeling hurt as his words seems to struck me really hard. All I was trying to do was to get to know him, see if I could help but I guess I was wrong.

"I'm sorry." I whispered hurt before turning to leave him in his office.

"Amy wait!" Lucas stopped me while letting out a sigh. "I'm sorry I snapped at you. I shouldn't have done that. I just find it difficult..."

"Difficult to let people in." I finished for him. "And I was being pushy and persistent. You have every right to be upset. I won't try to get in your head anymore. I should just go."

I didn't wait for him to say anything else or stop me again, I just decided to leave him alone to calm down. It was obvious that something happened which made him build that wall up to keep people out.

**************************************

I hadn't seen Lucas in two days since he had snapped at me that night in his office. I had woke up late the following morning and when I came out of my room, Lucas had already gone to work. Then I went to work in the late evening and I didn't saw him at the club and just the same when I went home, he didn't seem to be home at all. I was actually relieved that we hadn't ran into each other since. I was still feeling a bit hurt and humiliated by what he had said. I actually thought Lucas and I were making progress and then to hear him say something like that to me, it made me realized we still had a long way to go. Even though he had apologized for snapping at me, I just still felt away about everything and seeing him now wouldn't exactly do any good for me.

It was three days since and I had just arrived at work. I was working an early shift from 5-8pm. I had recently found out that the club wasn't just only opened at night, it was opened at daytime too. I had just thrown on a draw string blue hoodie over a white tank top, shorts and some black ballet cutout sandals before coming here, and threw my hair up in a messy bun.

I had only just changed and started working for about five minutes at the bar counter when I saw Carter walking in my direction. Oh dear god, not now. Fortunately for me, I hadn't seen him for days since I had heard he knew about my relationship to him and I actually wasn't looking forward to this run in right now.

"Hey Amy, I need to talk to you." Carter said taking a seat at one of the stools on the other side of the counter.

"Oh, hi Carter." I said giving him a slight smile. "Can I get you anything?"

"No, I'm good. I just needed to talk to you." He responded.

"What about?" I asked innocently.

"About you and me being siblings." Carter announced.

"So you've found out?" I said pretending like I didn't already heard about he and his dad almost showdown. "It came as a surprise to me too."

"So are you telling me you didn't know this from before?" Carter asked me looking at me suspiciously.

"No, I never knew or have been introduced to a man that was called my dad in all my years on earth. Maybe if I had a father present in my life things that happened to me and certain choices I've made would never been the same." I said to him. "So yeah, I only just learnt that I actually have a dad a couple days ago."

"Then if you never knew before how did you find out now? Who told you?" He asked me.

"No one told me, I figured it out on my own and then it was confirmed." I told him. "You see my mom had told me the story of how she met my father and why he didn't know I existed and then your father kept saying I reminded him of someone and told me the very same story mom told me. So I figured it out. I know he was an ass- no offence."

"None taken. He's your father too isn't he?" Carter asked. "I just can't believe he'd hurt my mom like that- having an affair."

"Well he also hurt my mom too Carter. He knew he was a married man when he met her in Barbados. He should've never asked her out and let her feel that she was special and all, yet hiding the fact that he was married and had a son. I know my mom and she would never have been with him if she knew he was married. It took a phone call from your mom to his phone that had my mom figuring out he was married and then he left to come back home unknown to him that he had actually helped in me being conceived." I said to him. "Have your mom heard about me as yet? Or even your sister?"

"The one good thing about my father is that he always owned up to his wrongs." Carter said to me. "He actually told my mom and sister before I would."

"How are they taking it?" I asked biting my lip nervously as I waited for his reply.

"Well Adena is just as surprised as I am and she's upset with him as well. My mom now is another story. She is hurt by the news but she's being somewhat understanding so they are trying to work things out." Carter said to me.

"What does that mean? She's being understanding?" I asked curiously.

"You see my mother and father didn't have the typical fall in love and get married type of marriage. They were both forced into an arranged marriage by their parents as a way of forming an alliance and my mom gaining protection from the Cavelli group. Sure they had messed around and she got pregnant with me but even after I was born, they still weren't in love at the time. I guess my father hadn't fully decided to commit and be faithful to my mother as yet. When he went to Barbados and met your mother, I think he generally liked her and wish she was the one he had. It was years after before they both learn to love each other, so my mother is understanding of what he did but it's still upsetting to know he cheated on her."

"You're lucky." I said to him.

"Why is that?" Carter asked me.

"Because in spite of what happened you got to know and grew up with a father, a mother and a sister. You still grew up with a family that I'm guessing love each other, you weren't abandoned even though he cheated on your mother." I told him. "He still came back for you. I on the other hand, never knew what it was like to have a father, I often felt abandoned. And then I grew up with a stepfather, a man who was supposed to treat me like a father yet he was verbally abusive most of the time and then in my later years, he sold me to a drug dealer who abused and forcefully made me into a sex worker and a crack head. So you guys are lucky, I didn't have a dad who cared for me when maybe if I had, things would've been different."

"Amy I'm sorry about what happened to you and for all you went through. My father may be an asshole for what he did but I just know that if he had known about you, you would never have to worry about any of the stuff you went through or about your stepfather. Dad would have killed him before he ever think to hurt you."

"It's good to hear that really but it doesn't change the past and what happened." I said to him. "You have a caring father Carter-be thankful in spite of everything."

"We have a caring father Amy. He is your father too. I guess I can afford to share him with just one more person." Carter said giving me a smile.

It warmed my heart really to know that he actually seemed to accept me as a sister whether or not it was just half. I couldn't help but return the smile.

"Thanks Carter but I am yet to experience the caring father part." I said to him.

"Just give it time." Carter replied.

I was smiling at him and about to respond to him when Lucas joined us at the counter.

"Carter," He acknowledged before turning to me. "Hi Amy, can we talk?"

"Hi Lucas," I replied. "Can it be later after work? I'm kinda going to be busy now."

After snapping at me and disappearing for almost three days, now he wanted to talk?

"I'm sorry about snapping and what I said to you the other night." Lucas said as he subconsciously reached for my hand that was resting on the counter. "I was being a jerk, that is why I want us to talk now."

"Wait, is there something going on between you two?" Carter asked causing me to remember he was still there as well witnessing this exchange. "Things are about to get interesting. I have one sister who has been pining for you for years and now you're actually talking to the other sister? That is quite interesting."
