《RESCUED AND RISEN》Chapter 40

I decided that since I had left work earlier than I should the night before, I would go in early this evening to make up for my shift. I had just finished getting dressed in a black leggings and a long sleeve shirt with some sneakers to wear to work.
I grabbed my bag and exited my room- prepared to leave. When I reached the living room, I was surprised to see Lucas once again and him stopping me.
"Lucas, I thought you were at work." I said to him.
"We need to talk. " He said to me.
"Does it have to be now? I was hoping I could go to work earlier this evening since I had got off before the end of my shift lastnight." I said to him.
"You're not going to work tonight. I'm giving you the night off." Lucas said to me before pointing to the sofa "Sit. We need to talk."
"Okay," I nodded as I hesitantly sat down on the sofa in front of him. "What do you need to talk about?"
"I know what happened last night, why you ran out of the club." Lucas said to me causing my heart to start racing.
Could he? No, I don't think so.
"You do?" I asked him.
"I told you that I'd figure it out. Rinaldo is your father." Lucas stated, causing my eyes to widen in surprise.
How did he...?
"What...How did you know that?" I asked him in shock.
"I'm good at putting two and two together " Lucas replied. "It makes perfect sense. Rinaldo seeing a resemblance in you as that of someone he once knew. Which happened to be Marie right?"
"You've talk to him." I guessed.
"I had to know what was up between you and him." Lucas replied.
"Does he know? Did you tell him?" I asked worried that he had.
"No. He doesn't seem to know it yet but it won't be long until he finds out. I wasn't going to be the one to tell him about his unknown daughter." Lucas said to me.
"He doesn't deserve to know..." I said to him.
"Why is that?" Lucas asked curiously.
"I've lived all my life without a father. There are things that happened to me... there were days when I wondered if things would be different if I had a father. But now I've got out and nothing is going to change now that I know who my father is." I said to him. "He doesn't deserve to know. All my life I've been surrounded by men who played women and I'm sick of it. He was one of those guys, who played my mom. He knew he was married and had a son too yet he felt the need to approach a young innocent girl in another country, only to toy with her then leave her broken. What kind of person does that?"
"He was young, he made a mistake. We all make some bad choices in our lives at times, especially when you're involved in the mafia. Not all the choices we make are wise." Lucas said to me.
"Please don't make excuses for him. It may be fun for you guys to go about adding notches in your belts but it isn't for the females, especially not when you're innocent and weren't exposed to certain things. And then when there are consequences of those stupid actions... It doesn't matter anyway, he's got Carter and what's her name- Adana?"

"Adena." Lucas corrected me.
"Yes, her. He already have the perfect children. No way I want to compete with that." I sighed. "So, is that all then? Since I've got the night off, am I allowed to go spent the night with my mom?"
"Actually we are going out." Lucas replied.
"Out?" I asked surprised.
"Dinner with Gio and Lexi. I've decided to bring you along so you should go change." Lucas said to me.
He totally dictate everything doesn't he?

Amy's outfit for the dinner
When Lucas told me that we were going to dinner with the Cavelli's, I thought that meant we were meeting them at a restaurant or something. I never expected it to be at their house. I was surprised when Lucas drove us there and I realized we were at their home. I would have to admit it though, that whoever the designer of the house was, they sure know how to do their jobs well- the house was gorgeous.
"So how do you find working at the club Amy?" Lexi was the one to ask me as we sat around the table having dinner.
"It's okay, I guess I enjoy working there." I replied.
"Haven't had any issues with anyone there?" Gio asked me now.
"No, well not yet. And I hope I don't ever have any." I said to him.
"Good. So I also heard that Rinaldo is your father." Gio said to me which caused me to look at Lucas. He must've been the one to tell him. "He is obligated to tell me these things."
"Oh, I understand." I said to him. "Yeah, that's what I've discovered too. He had met my mom back in Barbados."
"That was when my father was still the boss of the group." Gio replied. "How do you feel about that?"
"Honestly, I don't know how to feel. I'm surprise to find out that he is my father but I'm also upset to know him after what he did to my mom. He knew he was married yet he still approached her then toyed with her." I confessed. "I don't want him to know who I am."
"You do know that he's going to find out who you are eventually don't you?" Gio said to me.
"Yes, maybe but it doesn't matter he already has a daughter and a son. He isn't going to lose or gain anything by finding out about me." I replied.
"Before you finally make up your mind about Marcos, maybe you should first give him a chance to know that you're his and to explain himself." Gio told me before turning to Lucas. "Lucas, since we're talking about the Rinaldo's, what are your intentions with Adena?"
At this question I also looked at Lucas. Was there really something going on between him and the girl? They did look quite cozy and friendly the other night. And not only that, but she practically throws herself at him.
"I don't have any intention with her. She's someone I view as a friend and the daughter and sister of fellow colleagues." Lucas said to him "She's like a sister to me as well."
"Not from what I've seen. The girl is obviously into you, you must really be clueless dumbass not to notice. " Lexi joined in. "And the both of you always seem pretty close. I'm sure she is looking forward for you to ask her out sometime soon."

"Believe me when I say, I only view her as a friend. I've never given her any reason to think such things." Lucas replied.
"You know it's best to let her know from now then instead of leading her on." Gio said to him
"I already told you, I never gave Adena any ideas about she and I. I was just always being nice to her." Lucas replied. "And don't worry, her father already read me the rights and gave me an entire lecture. If the girl thinks that there is something more between us, it's because of fragments of her imagination. I have never given her reasons to think that."
Wait, does this mean that Lucas wasn't interested in Adena like I think he was?
After the dinner, Lucas and Gio left us and went to his office to discuss 'business' while Lexi and I went to the living room.
"So, what do you think of Lucas now?" Lexi asked me with a smirk.
"I'm not sure what you mean." I said to her. "I think he's a serious guy who doesn't like being messed with."
"You know that's not what I mean Amy." Lexi smiled "I saw the way you look at him now. Things have changed haven't they?"
"Lexi, I really don't know what you mean?" I said innocently.
"Don't try to deny it. You've started developing feelings for him haven't you?" Lexi asked with a knowing smile.
"No!" I denied
"You don't have to lie about it you know Amy. There's nothing wrong with developing feelings for the guy, you've been living with him for months." Lexi said to me.
"I don't know when it started happening. I think I may have a case of Stockholm syndrome or something. something..."
"Don't be silly," Lexi laughed. "You don't have Stockholm syndrome."
"Then why is it that I feel this way about him when he practically kidnapped me, all he does is threaten me and he is holding me against my will?" I asked her.
"Is he now?" Lexi asked raising her brow.
"Yes."
"So are you saying that if he decided that he is going to allow you to go tonight, you'll gladly pack up and disappear without a second thought?" Lexi asked me.
"Well... I..." I stuttered thinking about what she had said.
"That's what I thought." Lexi smiled. "You know, I think you two would be good for each other..."
"Woah. I think we're getting ahead of ourselves right now. I may have started having some little feelings for Lucas but it doesn't mean that he reciprocates those feelings or that anything is going to happen between us." I said to her. "Right now, all I am to Lucas is a potential threat to him and your husband's group. That's the only reason he's keeping me around. And you can't tell him that I'm harbouring a silly crush on him okay?"
"I won't. " Lexi replied with an amused smile.
"Lexi please, I'm serious, you can't tell him. I'll look like an idiot." I said to her.
"Alright, I won't tell him. I promise, your secret is safe with me." Lexi replied. "I don't even talk to Lucas that much anyway."
"Thank you," I said to her. "Now can we please talk about something that has nothing to do with me? Like how about you for example? You're pregnant, how does that feel? You and Gio must be excited."
"We are and especially Gio. He's all the more excited since he believe that we're having a boy. In just a few weeks we'll know for sure." Lexi smiled as she ran her hand over the small baby bump.
"This might sound weird but it suits you." I said nodding towards her stomach.
"Thanks, I think." Lexi chuckled.
"It is a compliment. You look good with it." I said to her.
"Thank you though I'm not sure you'll still think that in a few more months when I've gotten bigger." She replied.
"How far along are you?" I asked her curiously.
"I'm over three and a half months, almost four months."
"Really? I wouldn't be able to tell. You actually look earlier to me." I said to her. "So what does it feel like having a young one growing inside of you?"
"It's actually an amazing feeling. Sure, it feels somewhat uncomfortable at times with my stomach growing and skin stretching but to know that there's another life developing inside of you, one you're going to be responsible for, it's awesome." Lexi smiled.
"I guess it puts true meaning to the phrase loving before seeing huh?" I asked her.
"Exactly, I guess you can say that." Lexi replied before Gio and Lucas showed up.
"Amy it's time to go, are you ready?" Lucas asked me.
He actually asked me? What happened to just telling me let's go?
"Oh, yeah sure." I nodded as I got up from the couch. "I guess I'll see you around Lexi, you too Gio. Thanks for dinner."
"No problem." "Sure you can come by anytime, I'll see you around." Gio and Lexi responded.
Lucas and I then left the house and headed to his car before he started the journey back to his apartment. I swear I wasn't imagining things but there was this tension in the car with us that wasn't there before. I didn't know if it was the conversation that I had with Lexi and the fact that I had admitted to liking Lucas out loud to her, why this feeling was present.
I couldn't help but steal glances at Lucas every now and then. I noticed that something seemed to be bothering him as well, the way he gripped the steering wheel, strummed his fingers against it whenever we came to a stoplight and even the way his brows furrowed as if he was in deep thoughts.
"You're staring." Lucas said to me without even looking at me.
"Yeah, uhm...sorry. It's just that... Are you okay? You seem a bit upset or tense." I said to him not bothering to deny the fact that I was indeed staring at him.
"No, I'm fine." Lucas replied glancing at me then back on the road.
"Okay." I nodded.
The remainder of the ride was perfectly silent. Except for the sounds of other vehicles passing us each time, we drove in relative silence. After reaching back at the apartment complex Lucas and I made our way up to his apartment.
"So uhm goodnight." I said to him as I took out my earrings then put them in the side of my bag.
I had no idea why all of a sudden things just started to feel so awkward.
"Yeah Goodnight Amy." Lucas replied as he stared at me.
"Okay." I nodded.
What the hell was wrong with me? I've told him goodnight and he told me goodnight yet for some reason the both of us were just standing there staring at each other like idiots. As I stood there thinking about how much of an idiot I looked like and how I should probably go to my room right away before Lucas thinks I'm a crack head once again, Lucas came to stand right in front of me.
"Gio thinks that I'm into you." Lucas said as he was standing directly in front of me- probably a little too close.
"Why would he think that?" I breathe out.
"He also thinks that you're into me." Lucas said taking a step closer- I didn't think it was possible.
"Your boss is crazy." I whispered as my heart was hammering inside of my chest.
"He is, isn't he?" Lucas asked leaning in.
"Yeah. Totally crazy." I responded as my breathing increased.
"I know. " Lucas said just before his lips were on mine.
To be continued...😀😀
