《RESCUED AND RISEN》Chapter 39

I practically ran out of there after grabbing my things. I just couldn't stick around much longer after what I had just discovered. I mean how could I not have suspected this before? Mom had told me how she met my father and what happened. And then Marcos kept saying I reminded him of someone and almost told me the exact story mom did-of course he left out some of the details but still. And then he accidentally called me Marie and told me he had met her in Barbados? What more convincing do I need to see or hear to figure out that Marcos Rinaldo was actually my father? Which meant that Carter and that Adana girl were my half siblings.
That simply meant that when Marcos met my mom back in Barbados, he wasn't only married but also had a son and a baby on the way or conceived months after. What kind of heartless jerk did something like that? How could you be married to one woman and have a kid, then visit another country only to have an affair and lead on another young and clueless girl? I doubt that I was wrong with my discovery or if everything was only a big misunderstanding but I still needed to get a confirmation from mom about it all.
I really hoped Lucas hadn't decided that he was going to act like a jerk once again and be mad when he got home- since I practically ran out of there and disappeared before my shift was over. I had to get away though. After my new discovery, I honestly had no idea how else I would react towards Marcos or even Carter and his sister. To think that I had discovered who my dad was after 22years and also that I had siblings, it was a bit too much for me to handle all at once. First I got rescued from being sold into a terrible life, then when I got my first real boyfriend- I had witnessed him being killed, then I had eventually found my maternal side of family and then I found out who my father was and that I had siblings? Even more, they were linked to the mafia as well?
It was a bit too much for me to handle.
"Mom! Are you in here?" I called as I entered the living room of her apartment which I now had a key to. "Mom, are you up?"
"Amy? Is that you?" I heard mom called back from her bedroom which I then made my way to.
Mom was in her bed with the floral bed cover covering her lower waist areas and a book on her lap as she looked up to me.
"Sweetie, hi. You surprised me. What are you doing here now? I thought you were working a late shift." Mom said to me before looking over to the clock on her bedside table. "Oh? It's just 10:34pm?"
"I got off a bit earlier tonight, wasn't feeling so well." I told her as I went towards her bed and sat on the edge. "I thought you were sleeping."
"No, I wasn't quite sleepy yet so I figured I'd try to get some more idea from this book." Mom said holding the book up.
"Oh, it's a recipe book. Why am I not surprise?" I smiled before sighing out loud.
"Hey, what's up? Are you okay?" Mom asked as she put the book aside and scooted closer to me.
"Mom... I don't know but.. I just... I don't know how to feel..." I started rambling.

"Honey, what's wrong?" Mom asked me.
"Marcos Rinaldo." I sighed before looking at her.
The expression on her face at hearing the name said it all.
"Amy, where did you hear that name?" Mom asked after a while with a slightly pained voice.
"Is he...my father?" I asked her instead of answering her question.
"Amy I.... Yes." Mom whispered while nodding. "Who told you his name?"
"We've met...more than once. And then we had a small conversation tonight while I made a drink for him at the club." I told her.
"At the club? You mean..." Mom trailed off with a looks of disbelief.
"Yeah," I nodded. "He's apart of the mafia as well along with his son."
"He has a son?"
"Yes-Carter, and a daughter." I told her "I think Carter is older than I0 and the girl-Adana I think is her name- we're either the same age or she's a bit younger. I'm not sure. "
"So he was not only married but had a child?" Mom said shaking her head. "I was such an idiot... Wait, how did you know he was your father? He hasn't recognized you did he?"
"We first met that night Lucas took me to that business event and he mentioned that I reminded him of someone but it wasn't until tonight that I figured it out." I told her. 0"He mentioned again that I reminded him so much of someone he once knew. He was making me uncomfortable the way he kept staring at me and I told him. He reassured me that he wasn't trying anything with me, that he was married and that I just looked so much like this girl. I asked him if she was an old friend or girlfriend and he told me you dated for a while but he screwed things up and after he hadn't seen her again. I didn't pick up on anything until after I served him his drinks and he mistakenly called me Marie..."
"Oh my God." Mom whispered in disbelief before covering her mouth with one hand.
"I was just so shocked but I couldn't allow him to figure anything out and so I asked who was Marie and he told me it was the girl he told me about, the one he met back in Barbados." I continued. "I don't know how I never figured it out before. I don't think he knows though... I mean about me. I didn't say anything else, I just left right after."
"I can't believe I was so blind and stupid. He had me fooled, totally. And he's apart of the mafia? What...How? Oh my God, I can't believe this." Mom said clearly conflicted.
"I found it hard to believe as well that is why I had to hear from you." I said to her.
"This is just too much. I really don't know what to say or how to feel or anything." Mom shook her head. "I didn't know just how much one... I honestly don't know what to say."
"He doesn't know about me or my relation to you but being in his position and the fact that Lucas still has me here and everything, how long is it going to be before he finds out that you're my mom? He may not know I'm his daughter but..."
"Do you want him to know?" Mom asked cutting me off.
"What?" I asked her confused.

"Do you want him to know that you are his daughter?" Mom asked.
"Mom I don't know. I grew up without a father and I never felt less loved or anything while I've got you. It wasn't up until a few years ago when....you know I don't want to bring that up now but it wasn't until then that I've wondered what it'd be like if I had a father- who would love and protect me." I said to her. "But now, I'm all grown up. And I've gotten away from that life, so what good is it going to do now if he knows? It isn't going to change anything or the past? And he already has a daughter and a son. Those who he have a bond with. I'll never be able to get that. It doesn't make sense, I won't be the one telling him. He was a jerk, a selfish no good jerk, he doesn't deserve to know anything."
~|~
"Where have you been?" I heard Lucas asked the minute I had snuck in his apartment.
"Oh god!" I jumped as I let out a breath with a hand over my chest trying to calm my frightened heart.
I was so frightened, I wasn't expecting him to be there in the living room area at this time. Last night after I had been over at mom's, I didn't bother to come back over here, I just slept there. It was early in the morning, just a few minutes after five and
I decided that I'd sneak in. I know Lucas would have came home late last night and would thought I was already sleeping, therefore he wouldn't know I didn't sleep there if I came in early but I was surprised to see him there sitting on the sofa in T-shirt and sweats.
"I asked you a question Amy. You didn't sleep here last night and you left the club long before your shift ended and now you're sneaking in at this hours in the morning? Where were you?" Lucas asked again.
"Sorry, I was only at mom's. I slept over last night. I didn't want you to get mad when you woke up and didn't find me here so I tried sneaking in now." I told him truthfully. "I asked Morgan to cover for me last night, I had to leave because I wasn't feeling well."
"Why was that?" Lucas asked with his arms folded under her chest.
"What?" I asked scrunching up my face in confusion.
"Why weren't you feeling well all of a sudden when you had seemed quite fine before?" Lucas asked me. "Would that have anything to do with Rinaldo?"
"No! Of course not. I told you, I wasn't feeling well. Why would you think it had anything to do with him? I just happened to serve him a drink." I said hoping Lucas wouldn't see through my little lie.
"You disappeared immediately after and then instead of coming home since you 'weren't feeling so well' you spent the night out." Lucas replied.
"Lucas, I wasn't far. I was just over at mom's apartment, I spent the night there. I didn't come back here because... I didn't want to be alone." I said to him. "I'm sorry if that was a problem."
"What happened with you and Rinaldo at the bar?" Lucas asked me again.
Why can't he give up?
"I don't know what you mean. Nothing happened. He said that I reminded him of someone and we talked while I made him a drink then I started feeling a bit sick shortly after, so I left." I said to him.
"You're hiding something Amy but just know I'll eventually figure out what it is." Lucas said to me.
"I don't know..." I started to deny his accusation when Lucas cut me off.
"Save it Amy. I'm not sure you'd do well with telling me another lie." Lucas said to me. "You've done it before, now don't give me more reasons to not trust you further."
**************************************
Lucas's POV
"You know I'm not surprised that you wanted to meet up with me for drinks today." Rinaldo said with a smug smile as he brought the glass of whiskey to his lips.
"Is that so?" I asked raising a brow at him.
"Yes, I figured this have something to do with the girl- Amy?"
"How did you know?" I asked nonchalantly before taking a drink of the whiskey.
"I know you have taken her under your care and I know how things like that work. And no, there is no use in denying that you've developed some feelings for her..."
I went to deny it when he put up a finger stopping me.
"...no, let me finish. I'm not stupid son, I've noticed these things all the time. Now you've noticed me taking a certain interest and you're curious as to what the hell that's about aren't you?"
"I trust that you have your reasons, but I trust that you aren't stupid enough to be taking an interest in her because of any sort of attraction. She is young enough to be your daughter and need I remind you that you're married?" I said to him.
"I'm quite aware of that Lucas, you don't need to remind me of my family and relationship status." He replied calmly. "I don't have any physical or sexual attraction to the girl... No need to feel threatened."
"Threatened?" I snorted before chuckling at what he just said. "Of you? Please, I don't see any need."
"It's so strange that my daughter is pining after you when you're here secretly pining for another woman. Do me a favor will you, and don't lead on Adena any further. Don't let her think she has a chance with you while you have eyes on another woman." Rinaldo said to me completely surprising me. "I don't want her to get hurt. Don't make the same stupid decisions I made in the past. It isn't fair to any woman to be led on and hurt in such ways."
"Who was it Marcos?" I asked him finally putting the pieces together.
Rinaldo had broken some girl's heart when he was younger and now the guilt lives on with him and somehow Amy reminded him of that girl? I needed to know.
"Her name was Mariean Stewart. I called her Marie. I met her over twenty years ago while I was on a mission in Barbados." He said to me.
If he met a Marie Stewart back in Barbados some years ago, and considering that was Amy's mother's name and she was also from Barbados then it couldn't all just be a coincidence. Rinaldo did say Amy reminded him of someone, and Amy hadn't met her maternal family until weeks ago. She has also never met her father before. It only made sense that Amy was actually Rinaldo's daughter.
He obviously had no idea yet and the reason why Amy reminded him so much of this other person, was actually because she was in fact the daughter of that very same woman. That explained where Amy got those blue eyes. So that was what Amy actually found out the other night why she fled the club.
"Hey, what's the matter? You just zoned out on me like you're trying to make some big discovery." Marcos said snapping me out of my thoughts.
"No, I'm just thinking. Look,I'm sorry about what happened back then but I promise you I never did anything to lead on Adena wrongfully and I don't intend to hurt her like that." I said to him.
"Well I'm glad to hear that from you son." He nodded. "It may seem fun at the time or you may not have given much thought at the moment but it's not a wise choice. Sometimes it's easier to live with the guilt of killing a guilty man than the guilt of hurting an innocent soul."
"Rinaldo, I don't know if you want to get into it but would you tell me what happened in Barbados?"
Alright there you go, it's official- I've said it. Marcos Rinaldo is Amy's father. Rinaldo is strangely drawn to Amy because of her resemblance with a past 'girlfriend' but not only that but she so happened to be his daughter. How do you think he's going to react when he finds out? What do you think was his excuse for being such a jerk in the pass " Hope you like the chapter, thank you so much for continuing to read my stories.
