《RESCUED AND RISEN》Chapter 37

"Mommy look, her hair is purple and blue." I heard a little girl whispered to her mom in the hallway as I was leaving mom's apartment.
"Sweetie, don't do that. It's rude to point." Her mom scolded.
"But I didn't say anything bad. I like it, I think it's pretty" The girl responded. "Wow. She has purple hair. It so cool."
I couldn't help but turn to look at them. I wanted to see what this little girl looked like. I turned to see a jet black haired little girl about six or seven years old and her mom.
"Oh, I'm so sorry about her." The lady apologized when she noticed me looking back at them.
"No, it's not a problem." I smiled at them. "I just happened to overheard her saying she likes my hair. Thank you sweetheart."
"Were you born with that hair?" The little girl asked me. "Is that your normal hair color?"
"No, I dyed my hair. My natural hair color is brown." I replied.
"Oh wow. Mommy can I have purple hair too? Please, can I? Can I?" The little girl asked jumping up and down.
"Sweetie, I don't think that'll be a good idea..." The mother tried reasoning with her.
"Well why not?" She whined.
Uh oh. My hair was being somewhat a bad influence to a small toddler.
"When you're old enough like me then you can do any color you want. Even pink." I smiled at her. "You like pink right?"
"Huh uh." She nodded excitedly.
"See, when you're a little older you can get any color you like. " I smiled at her before turning to her mother. "She's a sweet child."
"Thank you," she smiled at me. "I'm Lisa, by the way. And this is Farrah."
"Amy." I replied. "It's nice meeting you."
"And you. Do you live here as well? It's actually the first time seeing you. Although the complex is huge." Lisa asked me.
"Yeah, I do but my Mon lives down this side." I told her.
"Oh, that's nice. I guess there are a lot of people living here that we haven't met before." Lisa replied.
"That's true." I smiled at her "Maybe I'll see you around again."
"Yeah." She nodded.
"Bye. Bye Farrah." I waved at the little girl who waved back.
I then made my way to Lucas's apartment. The minute I had entered, I could hear footsteps like someone had entered recently.
"Greta?" I called out as I followed the sounds. "Greta, are you here?"
I was starting to wonder why I wasn't hearing anyone answering me when I saw Lucas.
"It's not Greta." He replied.
"Oh, I just thought.... Oh my God Lucas, what happened to you?" I asked in shock walking over to him.
He had a new bruise slowly forming on his jaw -most likely from a punch or something. It was like he had gotten in a fight with someone, but that wasn't what alerted me the most. It was the large growing pool of blood on the lower left side of his shirt. And it was obviously his blood.
"Oh no, you're hurt. You're bleeding." I said slightly panicking as I attempted to touch him.
"I'm fine. What happened was a small issue, it's no longer a problem." He replied turning his back.

"Let me help you," I said going in front of him."There's a first aid kit in the bathroom right?"
"Amy, I'm fine. Go back to what you were doing." He said as he started unbuttoning his shirt.
Even though he was trying to hide it, I could see that it was painful for him. And I was concerned, what happened to cause this bleeding injury?
"What happened? Let me help you. Is it bad?" I asked trying to lift the shirt to see the injury.
"I said I'm fine! Dammit! I don't need your help!" Lucas snapped at me causing me to jump back from him.
What the hell was this guy's problem? I was concerned for him and trying to help and this was how he reacts? He passed me and went into the main bathroom. I decided that to hell with Lucas, if he was hurt and in pain and didn't want my help, then that was his problem. As I turned to leave and go in the direction of my room, I heard something fell in the bathroom and Lucas letting out a painful curse. Sighing, I turned back into the direction of the bathroom. He was probably going to snap at me again but just because he was an ass, didn't mean that I had to be one too.
"I told you I'm fine! What are you deaf?" Lucas said when I entered the bathroom behind him and took up the first aid kit which had fallen to the ground.
I decided not to answer him or acknowledge the fact that he had snapped at me once again. I had came to the conclusion that the guy had some form of bad experience or trust issues with people before. He obviously kept trying to push people away. After setting the kit on the counter, I opened it before turning back to him.
"What are you doing?" Lucas asked as I started helping to unbutton his shirt. "Dont you listen!?"
"I'm trying not to be an ass as well and not ignore the fact that you really do need help." I said to him as I finished with the buttons.
Looking at the shirt, I could assume that he had been stabbed. Cautiously, I looked up at him as I slid the shirt down off his shoulders. I was surprised when Lucas didn't protest anymore but allowed me to do that as he stared at me with an unreadable expression. Feeling nervous and self-conscious by his stare, I adverted my eyes back to his torso and now seeing the full extent of his wound. Though I couldn't tell how deep it was since it was covered in blood and was still bleeding.
"Oh my God." I whispered at seeing this.
Lucas definitely had a nice body and he had a few tattoos on his chest but I didn't have the time to focus on all that right now.
"Could you sit down?" I asked him motioning to the toilet seat.
Surprisingly, Lucas had obliged and pulled down the cover before sitting down. I put the first aid kit on the floor beside him then retrieved a clean rag from the kit, wetting it slightly with some warm water and cleansing my hands before kneeling in front of him. Cautiously, I started trying to get rid of the excess blood while trying not to hurt him more.

Even as I tried to get of the excess blood the wound was still bleeding slightly but I could now see the full extent of the injury and it didn't look as if he was stabbed too deep. The amount of blood made it seemed worst than it really was. It seems as if he got lucky.
"It's not too deep" I said as I got up to wash the excess blood from the rag and to get back to cleaning the cut.
"I didn't give him much of a chance to go deeper. He was dead the minute he was able to get that knife close enough to me" Lucas said to me.
"Uhm...what happened? Did you get in a fight or something? Or was it...mafia business?" I took liberty in asking since Lucas was talking now.
"I was taking care of some business for the group. This guy just wanted to be difficult and tried attacking me, I dealt with him" Lucas replied.
"Is it always like this in this life? Aren't you always in danger?" I asked as I took out an antiseptic wipes to clean the wound a second time.
"It is, but its something I've gonna used to. It something I'm always prepared for" Lucas said.
"Don't you ever get... You know scared?" I asked looking up at him.
"Scared?" Lucas snorted. "That's not something you can allow to be in your vocabulary when you're involved in this life"
"Oh. I guess not" I replied.
Taking out an antibacterial ointment from the kit, I squeezed some and gently applied it around the wound. It was still bleeding slightly but for some reason it didn't bother me.
"There's gloves in the kit you know" Lucas said to me. "You're getting my blood on your hand"
"I know but I don't mind. And I've cleanse my hands so don't worry, I don't think I'll be passing any germs into your wound" I said to him.
"I didn't said you were. I was just letting you know that using the gloves would have been more sanitary for you with all this blood" Lucas replied.
"It's just blood Lucas, I can wash it off after" I replied.
As I washed my hands I dried them before getting two sterile gauze pads and putting them over the wound before using pieces of the adhesive tape to keep the gauze in place.
"I thought it would freak you out" Lucas said to me.
"Well it doesn't" I replied. It was kinda weird that Lucas and I were seemingly having a conversation. It was actually a first time we've ever been talking like this.
"Do you want me to used a waterproof bandage or..."
"Waterproof would be best" Lucas replied cutting me off before I had finished my question.
"Okay" I nodded as I took out a waterproof bandage and covering the gauze.
"Okay, I think that's it" I said smoothing out the bandage. "You were lucky it wasn't more serious. I think you need to always be careful, it could be worst"
"I'll bear that in mind" Lucas replied looking down at me.
"Yeah" I nodded looking at him before slowly looking back down to his chest where the tattoo caught my eyes.
On the left side of his chest was a tattoo that has in beautiful cursive writing there were four words. 'Il destino ama la paura. Con il destino viene scelta'
"It is Italian" Lucas said to me after noticing me staring intently at that tattoo.
"Oh uhm.. Sorry, I didn't mean to stare... What does it mean?" I asked cautiously hoping that my question wasn't considered to be too personal.
"Fate loves the fearless. With fate comes choice" Lucas said to me.
"What?" I asked confused at what he just said. Somehow I had been admiring his chest.
"The English translation" Lucas said to me with a slight smirk.
"Oh. Its beautiful" I said admiring how elegant the writing looks against his tan skin.
It was really intriguing that I was tempted to touch it. Looking at Lucas asking him permission with my eyes, I hesitantly and cautiously raised my hand towards the writing. Since Lucas still hadn't protested or snapped at me yet, I assumed it was okay. Slowly, I began tracing the words with my index finger. Following the pattern of each letters, I smiled at the fact that Lucas had seemingly warmed up
to me within the last 15 minutes. I was just about to start tracing the last line of words when Lucas grabbed my hand stopping me. Nervously I looked back at his face preparing myself for his wrath now for me crossing boundaries.
"I'm sorry, that was out of..." I began apologising but Lucas cut me off.
"Thank you" he said surprising me completely. "Thanks for helping me with the wound"
"Oh uhm... Its fine, it wasn't a problem. I'm glad to help" I said giving him a small smile still trying to recover from the shock. "I should uhm... Put these back"
"I can do that" Lucas said to me.
"No I'll do it. You should take it easy, dont want to aggravate your injury anymore so uhm..." I trailed off looking at my hand that he was still holding to his chest.
Without responding Lucas let go off my hand and I started putting back the things I used inside before putting it back in the cupboard. Taking the bloody rag I rest it in the sink as I started washing my hands.
"Should I dispose of the rag or you're going to get it was...." I trailed off in shock as I turned back to face Lucas.
I was surprised to see that Lucas had gotten rid of the slacks he was wearing earlier and only stood there in his boxers.
"What are you doing?" I asked eyes threatening to pop out of my head.
"Going to take a shower" Lucas responded.
"But couldn't you like uhm wait until I left to do that" I asked gesturing to his removal of clothes before turning to leave.
"I thought you'd want to help me do this as well. You know since I'm hurt and all" Lucas said causing me to look back at him with wide eyes.
"What?" I asked in disbelief.
"Yeah, since you helped with the bandage" Lucas replied.
"I- I don't think that..."
"I'm just messing with you" Lucas smirked at me "Relax, i'm kidding"
"Oh. I uhm... I should uh... I should go" I said pointing to the door as I made my way out and closing it behind me.
I could have sworn I heard Lucas chuckled after I practically ran out of there. Then a thought occurred to me, wait did Lucas just make a joke with me?
