《More than rubies [D. Alli x E. Dier]》Chapter 19

I left my barely touched food together with my two friends, because if I stayed they'd make me eat some more, but my stomach was tied up, so no food would get inside.

When I was in front of Dele's room I asked a nurse if I could see him, because I didn't want to make anything worse, and give him time, but at the same time I wanted to stay with him the whole time.

"No, I beg your pardon, sir, but the patient's bandages are being changed at the moment and..."

"So I can't see him now? But when can I see him, then? Is he getting better?", I asked exited.

"Sir, the patient can be visited at half past six, he is about to get better. He is strong, he will be in shape again in less than two weeks, thanks to his very healthy body."

"He's a footballplayer!", I claimed proudly.

"Oh, well, that explains his good shape. But excuse me now, sir, I need to bring these pills to another patient."

I nodded and wished her a good day.

After that I went to my bed and was happy, that my friend was getting better, he was such a strong guy...

Then I texted my team mates and gave them an update on Dele's condition, and soon, I got many friendly replies and wishes for him.

Time seemed to be standing still, so I decided to take a walk to a nearby park and called Ruby, who had driven home at 7 o'clock in the morning.

"Hey, Ruby... So you're awake already?"

"Obviously.", she muffled.

"Any news?"

"No, I'll visit him in an hour.", I explained.

"I hope he's... Okay. As okay as he can be right now..."

"He's about to get better. He's strong."

"I know. I'm looking forward to seeing him."

"Good luck."

We continued chatting for additional 30 minutes, then I made my way back to the hospital.

The sun was already setting and I enjoyed the colourful, fallen leafes, that were lying everywhere, covering the gray street.

15 minutes later I was standing in front of the white, big door, that led to Dele.

My hands were shivering again, I didn't quite know why I was so excited.

But it was Dele... So how could I not be happy?

With my still shivering hands I opened the door and there he was: sleeping peacefully.

"Hey, beauty.", I closed the door.

"How has your day been? I heard you're getting better... I hope it's true."

As I already did yesterday, I kneeled next to his head and smiled weakly.

The colour of his new bandage was a bright red, and some machines had disappeared by now, like the oxygen resuscutiation apparatus, with it's scary pipe inside his throat.

I carefully played with his fingers and smiled again.

"Dele. You know, I've never thought, that I'd say that, but you're the most beautiful person I've ever seen.

I'd trade anything for an answere from you..

I was so worried... That...", I swallowed, because I felt the tears appearing.

"That you wouldn't make it. I'm so sorry... I wanted to stay strong, I didn't want to cry in front of you... But...", I sniffled.

"I can't. I'm weak. I'm so sorry."

I buried my head in the sheets again. "But I love you so much, you mean so much to me... Dele. I miss you, I love you."

"Don't cry...", a weak voice suddenly whispered.

"Dele!", I almost screamed.

I wanted to hug him, but I had to hold myself back, so I wouldn't hurt him.

"Dele, you're awake! Dele, do you hear me? Say something!" I jumped up, happily.

"Eric...", he breathed out.

"Yes, Dele?", I asked full of hope.

He was back!

My Dele!

He had made it!

I smiled as bright as the sun.

"Dele, so you can hear me? I have so much to tell you!", I shouted in exitement, but then I went silent.

"Or... Do you need a break?"

"Stay.", he whispered.

"Okay!", I nodded happily.

"So... Where do I start?

So... How did you even end up here? It's such a wild story..."

I explained the story to him with every detail, until a nurse came in, to tear us apart.

I fought her, I didn't want to leave already, but in the end she was right, Dele had gone through so much, the needed a rest now.

"Bye, Dele! I'll see you tomorrow, then I'll tell you the rest of the story."

"Bye...", he breathed out.

Eventually, the nurse shoved me out of the room, but I left it with the brightest smile in the world.
