I get a text from my older brother saying that he was outside. I tense up but walk outside anyways. And there he was standing in front of me.
Me: What do you want?
Illumi: Come home
Me: Why would I do that?
Illumi: Because you care about that little rat upstairs
Me: He isn't a little rat! He's my boyfriend!
Illumi: Whatever you want to call it I don't care, but if you care about him you'll come home
I hear someone banging on the window and we both look up. It was Gon. He went to open the window but someone was behind him. My eyes widen when I see him. I thought he would leave us alone. He drags Gon back and Illumi grabs my arm.
Illumi: Come on little brother you don't want him to get hurt again do you?
Me: Fine! I'll come home but only because I don't want him hurt
Illumi: Very well *let's go of my arm*
Me: But tell Hisoka to leave him alone!
Illumi: *pulls phone out* Fine
He pulls his phone out and I'm guessing he texts Hisoka because next thing I know he hops out the window and stands behind me. I turn around facing him.
Me: Where's Gon?
Hisoka: Upstairs~
Me: Is he ok?
Hisoka: Yes~
Illumi: Ok let's go *motions me to get into the car*
I get into the car and we drive away. I turn around and look back at the house. I know I made the right choice.
Illumi: So Killua when we get to the mansion father asked to see you
Me: Whatever
Illumi: I suggest you don't get an attitude with me, remember I can still end your little rats life
Me: He isn't a goddamn rat! He is my boyfriend!
Hisoka: *laughs* Isn't that the cutest thing ever~
Me: *rolls my eyes*
Illumi: We'll be there in 15 minutes
I sit back staring out the window. What did Hisoka do to Gon?

Leftover Apocalypse
[Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] This is a story about the newly-adult Calliope Smith having a terrible day that ends in her getting mysteriously teleported from Phoenix, Arizona to a fantasy world where her life is in constant danger. She considers this an upgrade. Someone evil is looking for her, and she doesn't know why. Someone who seems to know a lot about her has promised they'll help her, but she doesn't know who they are. All that matters to Callie is that magic is real and one way or another she's going to learn it. The end of the world is coming up, sure, but Callie won't need to worry about that. In fact, by the time she even finds out about it one of the doomsday devices will already be destroyed, and the authorities will be well on the way to dealing with the other one. It's fine. Everything will be smooth sailing. Almost certainly. Probably. Chapters are usually about 2500-3500 words, and the goal is to post 2-3 per week but I sometimes get busy or have some writers block. It's your standard portal fantasy / Isekai premise, but unlike some the main character's time on Earth and how she got pulled into another world will (eventually) be explored. Some slight GameLit-feeling stuff later, no menus or level-ups but there's something suspiciously like a skill tree when the magic system gets going. No number crunching, and while the main character will get to do some silly stuff she won't be a god like in some fics (and will in fact spend a lot of time being badly outclassed by her enemies). Some reader interaction, ranging from adding to the worldbuilding to occasionally making big important decisions about skill progression. Please note that the main character is flawed and impulsive, and will make some stupid decisions. That's part of the story, but I get that it's not for everyone. Trigger Warnings: Foster care system references, crappy parenting. Some mental health adjacent stuff, specifically the main character has some issues where she experiences varying levels of empathy and emotional vulnerability depending on the day (it's complicated and not meant to portray any real-world conditions). Occasional violence including mention of death and grievous bodily harm, but no detailed descriptions of gore.

If you are expecting quick progression, I suggest looking at some of the other great stories on RR. I personally enjoy and Patreon several, but that's not what I'm writing. That might hurt my chances of trending anytime soon (or ever lol), but that is fine with me. I'm sure some of you will appreciate the story as much as I do in writing it. FAQ: The story has elements of xianxia and wuxia along with some GameLit (at some point). The story takes place in an age where tech has advanced to a complete integration with magic. Imagine everything running on mana or qi instead of electricity, and you will get the idea. There will be crafting but not until later in the story. It's actually a core plot elemenet for Layla. I'm writing this story for my own enjoyment and as a way of relieving stress in my life. I'm not a pro author or a naturally gifted wordsmith. I don't have beta readers and every chapter posted is a first draft. I'm still learning and will strive to improve as I continue the story. If you don't speak up I can't work on improving as an author. I welcome any criticism and encouragement that would help me become a better writer. All three of the great Greek Tragedians have written plays about the bloody chain of murder and revenge within the royal family of Argos. Forming a discourse set against the emergence of Athenian democracy out of a period of chaos and destruction, the Orestian plays are compelling stories of the tensions between our obligations to our families and the laws that bind us together as a society. In the beginning, we witness how a king’s decision to sacrifice his daughter and turn the tide of war inflicts lasting damage on his family, culminating in a terrible act of retribution. In the aftermath of regicide, we behold how a son must set out to avenge his father’s death by committing a most egregious sin. In the end, the sinner is tormented by supernatural powers that can never be appeased, but ultimately finds redemption and ends the curse on his house once and for all. Woven through all of this is the story of a friendship so close that it elevates itself to brotherhood - Where the blood of the covenant is shown to be indeed thicker than the water of the womb. In this very brief twelve-chapter modern rendition of the Orestian plays, I have chosen to place my focus mainly on the lives of the characters Orestes and his best friend Pylades. The chapters, each around 2000-2500 words, are split up evenly between them in first-person narrative. I hope that you will come to enjoy reading this heartwarming story, but more importantly, that you see how the conflicts portrayed in the story, whether human or institutional, are still much very relevant to our societies today. Note on Sources: The details of this story is very loosely based on The Oresteia by Aeschylus. And I mean very loosely. Other sources that I referenced for detail and inspiration are Mythology by Edith Hamilton, Electra by Sophocles, and Iphigenia in Tauris by Euripides. You may also find that I have quoted some of these works, and others (such as Shelley's Ozymondaeus), without citations (average of 1-2 such quotes per chapter). I did this because I do not have the ability to describe certain scenes nearly as well as some of those writers. If you read a particularly beautiful piece of prose here, chances are it's probably stolen lol. Also, I wrote this during the summer between my high school senior year and my college freshmen year. It was the summer of 2020, and being quarantined apparently gets my creative side out lol.
