《Love on Top》Ch. 49

I was in the car with Ajani and Sam. I was driving us to the mall because I needed some new jeans and some sweaters. Sam was currently texting Bridgette about the twentieth anniversary banquet for the company and Ajani was sleeping in his carrier. I had decided to reschedule Sam and I's date for the week he came back home and after some persuading he agreed. I only rescheduled it because he was very tired from planning everything for the twentieth anniversary banquet for the company. Currently, I was getting bored with the music playing on the radio.

"Sam, can you plug up my phone to the car?" I asked.

"Sure," He responded. He sets down his phone and does what I ask.

"Thank you," I smiled.

"You're welcome," He nodded. He went back to texting Bridgette. I was thankful when we reached a newly turned red light. I instantly went to my playlist. I decided to play favorite song on there. Sam looked over at me with an amused expression. I looked at him for a split second before turning my attention back to the road.

"What? It's my favorite song," I said.

"You just love playing this song," He rolled his eyes.

"Yeah because I'm thick," I replied in a 'duh' tone of voice.

"Yes you are," He smirked. I giggled and started rapping along to the song.

"Wanna hit the club cause she wanna show her clothes," I rapped, "Bought some new heels cause she wanna show her toes." I continued singing to the song until it changed to HUMBLE. I had suddenly remembered something partially through the song. I turned down the radio.

"Sam, do you mind if I go out to the club with Arabella?" I asked.

"Sure. I don't mind," He responded.

"You really don't mind?" I questioned.

"Yeah I don't mind, Daphne," He chuckled.

"Okay. I'm just making sure," I said.

"Well if you think I'm gonna freak out because you're going to the club, then no I am not. Why? Because I trust you and I know that you would never ever do anything to betray that trust," He explained.

"That's so sweet of you, Sam. Thank you," I smiled.

"You're welcome, Daphne," He smiled back, "Since you're going out tonight, make sure to take your pepper spray. I trust you for sure, but it's just other men, the creepy types, who might try and take advantage of you."

"Okay, Sam. I'll be sure to do that," I nodded.

"Good. Now if there's any problems such as someone trying to follow you, call the police immediately," He stated.

"Did you do this with all of your exes?" I asked.

"I did it for almost all of them, except for one," He replied.

"Why didn't you do it for her?" I questioned.

"She had a black belt in karate, she had a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, and she did kickboxing every single day. If any guy so much as touched her the wrong way or tried to force himself into her, she'd kick their ass," He informed, "I still worried about her safety whenever she went out, but I knew she could handle herself. She was a complete badass."

"What ever happened to her?" I asked.

"Oh she got married to this really nice guy I know. They have two kids, a dog, and the last thing I heard about her was that she's taking up boxing," He answered.

"Holy shit. She's cool," I murmured.

"Oh and FYI, she was whiny or spoiled nor did she give me the time of day just because I would take her shopping," He told me.

"It's not true for her, but as for your other exes it's true," I replied.

"You just love taking shots at me and my past decisions, don't you?" He asked.

"Because you and your past decisions are hilarious, Sam," I answered.

"Don't make me call up Chad," He threatened.

"If you call up Chad, then I will spill every secret he has in the book along with every embarrassing thing that has ever happened to him so fast that he won't even think about telling you anything," I explained.

"That's evil," He remarked.

"Yes. Yes it is," I grinned.

We finally had arrived at the mall and I decided to park in the parking deck. Once I turned off the car, I slung my shoulder bag over my head and the strap rested on my left shoulder. I placed my phone and the car keys in there along with Sam's phone as well.

"I got the stroller and diaper bag," I said.

"I've got Ajani," He spoke up.

"If his hat came off, put it back on," I told him.

"Will do," Sam responded. We both got out the car got right into doing what we were going to do. Once everything was situated, we headed inside the mall together. The diaper bag had been placed in a little pocket underneath the stroller. Sam was pushing the stroller as I walked right beside him.

"Where to?" He asked me.

"Hmm...let's head over to New York & Company. I can buy a pair of jeans and get another for free," I replied.

"Alright. Let's head over there," He nods. We walked over through the mall and towards New York & Company. I instantly walked over to the jeans section and picked out two pairs of jeans. I headed to the line for the register with Sam and Ajani. The line moved fairly quickly and I was at the register in no time getting my items rung up.

"Alright, ma'am. That be 48.57," The cashier informed me. I took out my wallet then my card before swiping it. I put in my pin and everything else before the cashier printed out my receipt and gave me some NYCash for next time. I thanked her and left with Sam and Ajani.

"Alright, chief. Where do you want to go?" I asked.

"How about we head over to Footlocker? I need some new running shoes," He replied.

"Okay," I nodded as I hooked the New York & Company bag to the handle of the stroller. We continued on our way to Footlocker together.

When we got there, it was slightly crowded. I decided to push the stroller while Sam looked around. I sat down on one of the seats with the stroller closer to me and out of the way of people. I sat there for few minutes with Ajani before Sam walked over with two pairs of Nike running shoes.

"Which one should I get?" He asked, "This one?" He held up a black running shoe with a gray Nike symbol on both sides.

"Or this one?" He held up another that was a light gray, knit one with a stretchy back part where the heel was.

"I kind of like the gray one," I replied.

"Yeah. Me too," He said.

"Are you gonna go get your size?" I asked.

"Sure," He answered. He walked away and I turned my attention back to my baby boy who was sleeping in the carrier part of the stroller. Sam came back moments later and sat down next to me.

"How much did the gray one cost?" I asked.

"One hundred and ten dollars," He informed me.

"Wow. That's a low price," I nodded.

"I know right," He said.

"I'll purchase the shoes for you," I told him.

"You don't have to do that, Daphne," He replied.

"I know, but I want to," I said.

"No way, Daph. I'll pay for them myself," He shook his head.

"I'm paying for them, Sam. End of discussion," I finally said. He opened his mouth to say something, but closed it knowing full well that arguing with me was not something he wanted to do. I decided to take Ajani out of the carrier so I could hold him. I sat back down next to Sam with him in my arms. I noticed that Ajani was fully awake, which I hadn't noticed at all. He must've been really quiet as usual.

"Our son is such a quiet baby," I said to Sam.

"Mhm. He gets it from me," Sam smiled.

"Yeah. Whatever you say, Dr. Pee-Pee," I replied.

"Okay. You're gonna need to stop calling me that," He told me.

"Why? It's funny," I giggled.

"It's not funny to me when you have to relive the memories," He frowned.

"Aww. I'm sorry," I said.

"Thank you," He nodded. One of the sales associates walked over with a shoe box in hand. Sam thanked him before he walked away. He tried them on and I could see that they were a perfect fit.

"You sure you wanna get them?" I asked.

"I'm positive," He answered.

"Alright. Well put them back in the box," I said. He takes off the shoes and puts them in the box before putting his shoes back on.

"Since we're in here, do you want to go look at a pair of shoes?" He asked.

"Nah. I'm good," I responded,"Thanks for the offer though."

"You're welcome," He kissed my cheek. I smiled softly at him.

"I'll go pay your shoes," I told him.

"And I'll put Baby Bear back into his stroller," He said. I passed Ajani over towards him and I stood up and grabbed his shoes. I walked towards the register as soon as an employee came over.

"So your total is 111.17," He told me. I took out my wallet then my card before swiping it. It took a few seconds before I was able to type in my pin and sign my name. The cashier printed out my receipt and put it in the bag as Sam rolled over with the stroller.

After leaving Footlocker, we headed on over to Children's Place to buy Ajani a few more long sleeved shirts. Since the store was downstairs, we used the elevator.

"Do you want me to push the stroller?" I asked.

"Nah. I got it," He shook his head.

"Okay," I responded.

"After I come back from my trip, my mom wants to start planning the wedding," He informed me.

"I'll have to tell my grandmother too because she wants to plan it as well," I said. We soon reached the second floor and the doors opened. Sam and I got off the elevator with Ajani. We started heading to Children's Place.

"Ugh. I forgot that this means that I have to shave my legs for our wedding," I groaned. He chuckled.

"With or without body hair, you're still beautiful to me," He smiled.

"Thank you, Sam," I replied.

"Are Arabella and Fredrick planning their wedding?" He asked.

"Yeah they are. Arabella wants to have it the day after Afryea's birthday," I answered.

"Well we've got a few months till that happens," He said.

"Mhm," I responded. We had finally reached Children's Place and all I saw were parents picking out clothes and kids running around. Sam and I went inside together. We went straight for the section dedicated to babies.

"Ya know Christmas is around the corner," He said.

"Man, I almost forgot that it was," I replied as I started looking through the shirts.

"So I guess we're getting a tree this year?" He asked.

"We sure as hell are," I replied. He chuckled.

"You bought the presents and everything?" He questioned.

"If I course I did. All of my Christmas shopping for you, your son, my grandparents, my siblings, your parents, Arabella, Fredrick, and Afryea were done in Black Friday as well as last week," I explained.

"Well I still have to finish mine for you," He said.

"Aww. How sweet," I smiled.

"Do you mind if we have the wedding next year?" He asked.

"You also want to officiate things between us quickly?" I questioned.

"Pretty much," He answered. I giggled.

"Fine. We'll have to next year, but it has to be in the summer," I said.

"I'm down with that," He nodded.

"And I get to pick the destination," I added.

"Fine, but I get to decided whether or not we take a private jet," He said.

"That seems fair, but everything else that's part of the wedding, except for the tux, the dress, bridesmaids, bridesmaid dresses, groomsmen, and the taking of your soul, is a joint decision," I explained.

"Did you really just say 'the taking of my soul'? He laughed.

"Yes I did," I giggled.

"Well I guess once the planning is over, I'll be completely soulless," He joked.

"I'll be just as soulless as you," I smiled.

"At least we'll be soulless together," He smiled back.

"Can't forget Baby Bear," I said.

"Who can forget Baby Bear, the product of two parents who will become soulless in a few months," He joked. I giggled again.

"Let's finish shopping so I can go out with Arabella," I told him.

"Alright, boss," He nodded.
