《Love on Top》Ch.45

It was three weeks before the Ajani's due date. I was very excited because three more weeks is all we have until he arrives. Sam was currently in his home office doing a conference video call. He had the door slightly cracked because he told me that if I needed anything, I was allowed to come in and ask him. Naturally, I told him that I probably wouldn't need anything and that I would be fine, but he was very adamant about what he said. I decided to give in just this once because he was only looking out for me.
Currently, I was sitting downstairs on the couch eating from a big bag of Hershey Kisses that Sam had gotten me and watching What To Expect When You're Expecting. It was probably ironic for me to even watch a movie about five getting pregnant. I picked up my large water bottle that was beside me. I twisted the cap and raised it to my lips. I found that it was empty and I frowned a little. I sighed loudly to myself and sat up straight. I moved to the edge of the couch and struggled for a few minutes to get up with the water bottle in my hand. I finally stood to my feet and I huffed in irritation. Damn this large belly of mine. I hobbled slowly over to the kitchen area. I finally got over to the sink. Setting the bottle down on the counter, I untwisted the top and then raised it to the faucet which had a Purina filter on it. Once my bottle was done filling up, I twisted the cap back top back on. I raised it to my lips.
As I was drinking the water, I suddenly felt something rush down my legs. Did I pee myself? I looked down at the wooden floor to see a clear wet substance down there. My water broke. My freaking water just broke.
"SAM!" I yelled.
"YEAH, DAPHNE?" He yelled back.
"MY WATER JUST BROKE!" I announced. Moments later, I heard the sound of his footsteps as he ran around upstairs. I guess he was getting his shoes. Sam came down in a matter of minutes with a pair of flats for me in his hands as his shoes in his hands. His keys were in his mouth.

"You couldn't get other shoes for me?" I asked.
"Daphne, really? Your water just broke," He replied with the keys still between his teeth.
"Yes really. Now go upstairs and grab the green Fenty slides," I said.
"Daphne-" A contraction hit me and let me tell you that, that shit hurt like a motherfucker. I yelled in pain. The water bottle dropped to the ground as I held my stomach.
"Daphne, c'mon. Let's go," He said worriedly.
"Get the SLIIIIIIIIDEEEESSS," I painfully yelled.
"I'll be back," He told me. He dropped the flats and scrambled up the stairs. He tripped when he was halfway to the top. I started laughing, but it was cut off by another pained yell from me. Sam ran downstairs with the slides this time. He dropped them at my feet and helped me to put them on. He takes his keys out of his mouth.
"Now let's go," He said. He quickly helped me walk out of the house with his shoes still in hand. We got out to the car and he put me in the front seat. He closed the door and ran around to the driver's side.
We arrived at the hospital within minutes, Sam had his shoes now, he had put them on in the car. Sam and I walked towards the front desk where the receptionist was.
"Hi. My wife is going into labor," Sam hurriedly said. I hobbled behind him. Another contraction hit and I held back a yell. The receptionist quickly picked up the phone and pressed a button.
"There's a woman in labor at the front desk. Come quickly," She said into the phone. Pretty soon two muscular nurses come over with a hospital bed. They quickly got me onto the bed. Sam ran right beside us.
"Daphne, I'm right here," Sam said. His fingers laced with mine as we ran down the hall.
Eight hours later, Ajani Wayne Zhang was born. Ajani was 7 pounds and 6 ounces.
"Sam, can I hold him please?" I softly asked.

"Yeah you can," He responded. He gently placed Ajani in my arms. A smile came across my face as I looked down at the tiny human being that I just gave birth to.
"You are so beautiful, Ajani. I can't believe I finally got to meet you," I smiled down at him. Sam just stood back and smiled at the both of us because he knew how precious this moment was to a mother who just gave birth to her child. Sam took out his phone and took a picture of me holding Ajani.
"Sam, don't send the picture," I said.
"I have to or else my mother will start to worry," He replied.
"Fine, but just her and my grandparents," I told him.
"Alright," He nodded.
The next day, I woke up to the sound of voices.
"Hey, Sleeping Ugly. Had a nice sleep?" Arabella asked.
"Sam, why is there a dog in here?" I questioned. Sam and Fredrick started laughing.
"I'm being serious. Call Animal control," I said.
"Oh fuck you," Arabella hissed. I chuckled and sat up in my bed. I see that Ajani is being held by Sam who's sitting in the chair next to my bed.
"So how does it feel to be a new mommy?" Arabella asked.
"It feels great," I responded.
"That's good. How about you, Sam?" Arabella looked at him.
"Honestly, it feels very great," He smiled.
"Well I'm very happy for you guys," Arabella said. The door to the room opens and in walks a nurse.
"Alright, mommy. It's feeding time," The nurse said. She walked over to Sam and he gently placed Ajani in her arms. The nurse walked over to the bed. Arabella walked over and helped me to untie the top part of my gown. The nurse thanked her and proceeded to place Ajani in my arms.
After breastfeeding Ajani, Arabella tied up my gown again before the nurse left.
"Do you mind if I hold my nephew?" Arabella asked.
"Sure. Go ahead," I yawned. Arabella takes Ajani out of my arms carefully to hold him.
"He's such a beautiful little boy," Arabella beamed.
"To be honest, he kind of looks like Sam when he was a baby," I said.
"Indeed he does," Sam's mother walked into the room with his dad.
"Oh hey," I smiled faintly.
"Is that my grandson?" Sam's mother asked.
"No, mom. It's some random baby we picked up," Sam sarcastically said.
"Sam, remember that time you almost wet your pants?" His mom asked.
"No way. When was this?" Arabella smirked.
"It was-"
"Mom, please!" Sam exclaimed.
"Honey, quit embarrassing the boy," Sam's father laughed.
"Fine. I'll stop, Jiao-Long," She giggled.
"Daphne, how are you feeling?" His father asked.
"I'm doing fine. Just tired," I responded.
"Well you did just give birth," Arabella spoke up.
"You're still here?" I joked.
"You are such a butt face," Arabella said. Sam's mother walks over to the bed where Arabella and I were sitting.
"May I?" She asked Arabella.
"Oh sure," Arabella places Ajani into her arms. Arabella gets up from the bed and goes to stand by Fredrick.
"Isn't he so precious, Jiao-Long?" Sam's mother asked.
"Yes he is," Sam's father responded. The rest of the day was filled with people visiting Sam, Ajani, and I in the hospital. I was very happy to actually see them, even though I was really tired.
"Daphne, go to sleep," Sam said.
"What about you?" I questioned.
"I'll be here. Don't worry," He replied.
"Promise?"
"Promise."
