《Love on Top》Ch.22

Today was the day that Daphne meets my parents. I was more nervous than she was and it was getting to me. I was pacing her room as she got ready in the bathroom. Cristian was laying on her bed looking at me as if to say, 'dude, calm down'.
"Samuel, quit pacing," Daphne said from behind the closed door of the bathroom.
"I stopped," I replied.
"No you didn't. Because when you lie, your eye starts to twitch a little," She tells me. My eye did start to twitch a little.
"Fine. I'll just sit," I replied.
"Oh okay," She said. I sit down in her computer chair and wait for her to finish getting ready.
"Why did they want to meet at a restaurant for lunch instead of at their house?" She asked.
"My aunt, her husband, and two sons are staying with them for a few days," I replied.
"Oh," She said. She came out the bathroom a few minutes later in a gray dress that hugged her curves, a light pink blazer, and a pair of white heels. Her hair fell past her shoulders. She smiled at me.
"Ready?" She asked.
"Y-Yes I am," I stammered.
"You sure? You seem a little stunned," She tells me.
"No I am great," I assured her. She smiled.
"Good." She walks towards the bed. She pets Cristian on the head before saying goodbye to him. We go out to my car and we both get in. I drive to the restaurant called The Four Seasons.
When we arrived at the restaurant, I got out the car with Daphne. I walked around to her side and I pulled her into my arms.
"We don't have to do this if you don't want to," I said.
"I want to do this, Samuel," She smiled at me reassuringly. I sighed loudly.

"Hey. Don't think like that. Your parents are going to love me. No ifs, ands, or buts," She said. I nodded silently.
"Now let's go inside that restaurant so they won't think we skipped out of town," She joked. I chuckled softly before we headed inside the restaurant. We found my parents sitting at a table right next to each other.
"Mom, Dad," I greeted.
"Samuel," My mother stood up and hugged me. I hugged her back while Daphne stood right next to me. She pulled away and when she saw Daphne, she hugged her instantly. Daphne hugged her back with a smile. Mother pulled away and looked at her.
"Daphne, it is so nice to meet you finally. You are so gorgeous. Samuel did a nice job," She gushed.
"Thank you, ma'am," Daphne replied with a smile. My father stood up to greet Daphne.
"Well hello, Daphne. I'm Samuel's father Jiao-long," He smiled warmly.
"Nice to meet you, sir," She greeted back. We all soon took our seats.
"Daphne, what do you do for a living?" Mother asked.
"I am a freelance writer for Cosmopolitan," She answered.
"I have read Cosmopolitan since I was a teenager. It was my favorite magazine," She explained.
"My sister's read them and sometimes when they aren't looking, I would just sneak away to my room and read them," Daphne explained.
"Aside from writing, what else do you like to do?" Mother asked.
"I love to read a lot," Daphne answered. After that, the rest of lunch went by very smoothly. I could tell that both of my parents, especially my mother, had taken a liking to her. I don't know what I was nervous for. By the end of lunch, Mother and Daphne had exchanged phone numbers so they could have lunch together some other time.

When we reached Daphne's place, we went upstairs to her room. While taking off her blazer, her heels, and her accessories, she started telling me about what happened between her and her mom again with the whole country club thing again.
"She had the audacity to try and set me up with John again. I kept telling that miserable old fool that I don't want him at all," She ranted.
"Well I said that you didn't have to go if you didn't want to," I remarked.
"But I really and truly thought that she would apologize, but nooo she didn't. She just wanted to find another way to make me miserable and unhappy with a man I don't even like at all," She raged.
"Wow," I said.
"I know right," She agreed.
"But let's get off the topic of your mother," I said.
"Fine. What do you want to talk about?" She asked. I gestured for her to come over towards me. She did so and then I pulled her into my lap. I kissed her softly on her lips and she kissed me back passionately. My fingers went into her hair as we kissed. She stopped kissing me and my lips went to her neck. I planted butterfly kisses along her neck. She cranes her head back to give me more access. Daphne gets up to straddle my lap. I kissed her again with a heated passion. I stopped kissing her after realizing something. She continues to plant kisses onto my neck. Daphne notices and pulls away to look at me.
"Samuel, what's wrong?" She asked with worry in her voice.
"This isn't right," I answered.
"Why not?" She asked.
"As much as I would love to have sex with you, Daphne, I can't. I just can't," I replied.
"Why not? Is there something wrong with me?" She frowned.
"No no no. There is nothing wrong with you. You're perfect, but I don't want to do it like this with you. I want our first time together to be perfect," I answered. She smiles softly at me.
"Of course. I understand, Samuel," She stands up.
"I also didn't want to do it here and now because Cristian is sitting in the doorway staring at us," I whispered to her. She looks behind her and she started to laugh out loud.
"Oh God. He would've been scarred for life," She giggled.
"Daphne, I don't think he would've been scarred for life," I commented with an amused look.
"I know, but if we had done then I would have felt bad every time I looked at him," She explained. I rolled my eyes with a smile.
"What do you want to do?" She asked.
"We can watch a movie," I suggested.
"Okay," She nods. She turns on her television and turns on her Amazon firestick. She goes to Netflix and she scrolls through the movies.
"Do you want to watch South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut?" She asked.
"Sure," I answered.
"Awesome because I wasn't going to watch anything else," She tells me. I take off my shoes and I get up to walk towards the upper part of the bed where the pillows are. Daphne lays down beside me once the movie started. She moves closer to me and lays her on my chest while my arm rest on her shoulder. She throws one leg over mine as we watched the movie.

The Forgotten Hero
Long ago, in the world of Thyne, the Alliance of the Free Races, a name they had given themselves, summoned a hundred humans from another dimension. Praised as heroes by the people, they rejoiced that they had been able to acquire pure, mana deficient humans that wanted to aid them in their time of need, ignoring the black, archaic slave collars around their necks or the depressed, almost hate-filled expressions that they received when interacting with them. After Ten years of bloody war, the dark races were pushed back deep into their territories. Both sides were near breaking point and desperate to end the war once and for all. In a bargain, the twelve surviving heroes launched a high-risk mission, utilising advanced tactics from their home world to kill the Demon Lord. In exchange, they would be sent home, along with the magically preserved corpses of their comrades, though in truth, they knew that even if they returned, they would never be the same. Legends say that, upon ambushing the Demon Lord in his castle, they finally understood the plight of the world, and in the last act of heroism, sacrificed their lives, sealing him in an eternal prison so his essence would not be able to create another. With the loss of the Demon Lord, and no chance for another to be born, the dark races quickly surrendered and the free races celebrated, honouring the noble sacrifice of the heroes before quickly forgetting about them as they returned to their everyday lives. However, legends are rarely truthful, embellished by the victors in order to earn praise as well as hide the less desirable aspects of their deeds. Trapped in the Demon Lord's throne room inside the Demonic Palace, which even taking a single step on its desecrated grounds is punished by death, two figures remain motionless. They had long run out of insults and threats to trade and now they waited. For what, not even the Gods knew.

War of Seasons
Dorothea Atlin is the young, apathetic leader of the neutral territory of Sirpo, a chilly land hovering above the continuously warring factions of Sacer and Ghuria, whose devastating magics have ravaged their people and lands time and time again. Following a shocking attack and a cruel deception, Dorothea grows her conscience and takes up arms, using her self-destructive ability to manipulate the flow of time to ensure Sacer’s victory. Her growing understanding of war and the two factions is guided by Iree Nobelis, the determined and enthralling commander of Sacer’s forces, Ariana Kingfisher, a steely swordswoman of mixed Ghurian and Sacerian descent, and Rhys Tamlin, a kind but haunted soldier who goes to challenge Dorothea’s self-imposed celibacy and join her on a mutual journey of healing from the tragic legacies of the Atlin family and wars between the nations. Meanwhile, Dorothea’s only friend and deserter from the Sacerian military, Shark Olyen, returns to their homeland to face the family that disowned them and finds more than they bargained for in meeting Cerid Creed, a noble whose duty to his people clashes with his desires in romance and in life, much like Shark’s did long before. As their developing or preexisting loves and differing convictions on how to achieve peace create rifts between these major players, Dorothea experiences a personal revolution that leads her to fight for what she believes is right, no matter the cost. A slow-burn story that takes time setting up the psychology and motivations of characters for explosive payoff later down the line.
