《Love on Top》Ch.7

I finished getting dressed for the day. Today was the kind of day where I didn't really try but I still looked cute. I was heading down to the library so I could find the book The Danish Girl. I must read the book before I even watch the movie and the movie looks great but I heard some mixed reviews about it.

When I arrived at the library,I searched for The Danish Girl and then I went to go search for Playlist For The Dead. When I grabbed what I needed,I headed towards the checkout area and checked it out before leaving. I decided to head to the grocery store so I could buy a few groceries. I drove to Sprouts Farmer's Market and I go to find what I need. I bought some grapes, apples,Milk,Peace Tea,Nuts,Deli Meat, and other organic things. I headed towards the vegetables and I started inspecting the lettuce and cabbage. I set down the cabbage I had in my hand and reached for another. A hand touched mine as we reached for the same cabbage. I looked up to see him. The very handsome and tall Asian man from the coffee shop from a month ago. I blushed and retracted my hand at my side. He smiled at me kindly.

"You go ahead," He murmured.

"Are you sure? You can have it if you want," I replied.

"I'm positive," He nods.

"Oh alright. Thank you," I said.

"You're welcome," He nods. I grabbed the cabbage and place it in the plastic bag.

"Thank you again," I said.

"No problem," He said. I pushed my cart towards the spinach. I felt a tap on my shoulder and I turned to see that it was him again.

"Excuse me,Miss. But you dropped this," That same man said handing me my phone.

"Oh. You're a lifesaver," I giggled.

"Well I'd do anything to help such a beautiful woman like you," He beamed.

"I know this might sound crazy but do you want to maybe go out sometime? I know women don't usually ask men out on dates," I rambled. He chuckled with a smile.

"Sure. I'm free this Saturday," He said.

"Great," I smiled.

"Let me at least get your number," He tells me. We exchanged phone numbers and I gave him my address.

"Well I'll see you this Saturday,Daphne," He said.

"You too,Samuel," I murmured before heading to the register to pay for my things. I went out to my car after paying and I loaded my groceries into my trunk before putting away the cart. I then get in and drive off from the grocery store. I was really really really happy right now and nothing could bring me down. I got a date with that really handsome man from the coffee shop this Friday. Thank you,Lord, for giving me the strength and courage to talk to a man as handsome as him. My phone rang and I saw that it was my sister Regina.

"Hello?" I greeted happily.

"Ooh! Someone's very very very happy," She chuckled.

"Yes someone is," I smiled broadly.

"What has you so happy?" She asked.

"You will never believe what happened to me," I gushed.

"What? You finally got some dick?" She teased.

"Umm.....no. Not yet," I responded.

"Not yet? What do you mean?" She sang the last part.

"Well if you must know,Justin Bieber. I asked a man out on a date," I replied. She groaned loudly.

"NOOOO! You are not supposed to do that," She scolded.

"Shut up. It's the twenty-first century," I hissed.

"Who cares what century it is! You're supposed to let the man ask you out," She scolded.

"Well it didn't go like that so shut up and listen to me!" I snapped.

"Okay. Fine. Finish your story of how you failed to ask a man out," She muttered.

"First of all,I didn't fail at doing that. Second, what the hell possessed you to say some shir like that? And third,I'll have you know that he said yes. Boy,bye," I retorted.

"He said yes?" She asked in disbelief.

"Yes he did and if you had listened earlier instead of jumping to conclusions then maybe you would've known that," I quipped.

"I'm sorry,Daphne. I didn't know," She apologized.

"Mhm. You didn't," I murmured.

"Wait. When is this so called date?" She asked.

"This Saturday," I responded.

"Oh," She said.

"Yeah. I actually met this guy at the coffee shop about a month ago," I said.

"Didn't you tell me,Chastity, and Marcela about him?" She queried.

"That's correct," I replied.

"Is he black, white,Asian,Arabian,or what?" She asked.

"He's Asian," I responded.

"Ooh! You better work that Asian persuasion," She said. We both laughed together at what she said.

"What's his name?" She asked.

"Samuel Zhāng," I answered.

"Well tell me how that date goes with Mr.Zhāng,your soon-to-be husband," She said. I smiled faintly.

"I will," I replied.

"I gotta go but I'll talk to you later," She said.

"You too. Bye," I hung up. I decided to drive to Starbucks for coffee and three of those Frappucino cookies. I arrived in the drive-thru and as soon as the voice on speaker asked greeted and asked what I wanted,I told them my order then they told me my total and I said a thank you before driving towards the window. I paid at the window and got my stuff. I drove home and took my purse and food and drink from Starbucks in the house. Cristian ran outside with me as I unloaded the groceries from the car and brought them inside the house. My phone rings as I brought the last groceries into the house. I answered it after seeing that it was Chastity. I pressed accept.

"Is it true? You got a date this Saturday with a man you asked out?" She asked

"Damn you,Regina," I said.

"So it is. I'm proud of you for asking him out. I asked Bryson out and look at where we are. Married with two kids," She said.

"I thought he asked you out?" I scrunched my eyebrows in confusion.

"Nope. I asked him out," She said.

"Oh. I didn't know that," I mumbled.

"No one did but us and Marcela," She tells me.

"Mhm," I replied.

"So I bet you that Regina told mother and that she-devil," Chastity said.

"Knowing her,she probably did," I sighed in exasperation as I started putting away the groceries.

"I'll be dreading the call I'll get later on from our dear mother," I breathed.

"Wait till Chad hears about this," She snickered.

"Can you please tell your twin?" I queried.

"Fine," She sighed.

"Thank you,sissy," I giggled.

"You're lucky I love you and-NASIR ROYCE MICHAELSON,STOP RUNNING IN MY GODDAMN HOUSE LIKE YOU CRAZY!" She yelled. I held the phone away when she started yelling. I put it back to my ear when she finished.

"I guess I'll talk to you later," I said.

"Oh okay. Bye," She hung up. Suddenly I received the call I was dreading for a long time. I groaned and then answered it.

"Hello," I greeted.

"Why did I get a call from your sister saying that you asked some strange man out on a date for this Saturday?" She asked.

"Because I did and he isn't strange. I met him at a coffee shop," I responded.

"That's even worse," She snapped.

"I don't see what the problem is. You wanted me to meet somebody so we could get married or whatever," I murmured.

"Not some strange man who doesn't even have a cent to his name," She hissed.

"Who cares if he's not rich? Money can't buy happiness, mother," I countered.

"Do you at least want to be taken care of?" She asked.

"Yes I do," I replied,"But I also want to be loved, cherished, valued for my opinions and my intelligence, and as well as seen as an equal."

"That's why John is a good match," She said.

"John is a boring man who works at a freaking law firm. The only thing going for him is his looks and his paycheck," I retorted.

"John comes from a well off family," She said.

"Yeah and? I'm not interested in him because right now I'm interested in getting to know the man I have a date with this Friday," I murmured.

"You're not going on that date,Daphne. You're going to cancel it and go out with John that night," She ordered.

"Uh-uh. Don't tell me what to do. I'm not 17 anymore, mother. You can't just order me around like that. I'm a grown woman and I will make my own decisions without you dictating my life," I snarled.

"Don't you get that tone with me," She growled.

"Why? You can't handle the truth?" I chuckled humorlessly.

"Daphne Audrey Marilyn Gaines!" She snapped.

"Listen here,Diane. Your time to tell me what to do has passed. I'm a grown ass woman who refuses to be ordered around like some damn dog. Until you get that through your thick skull, then you can talk to me. But till then, don't even think about calling me," I venomously said to her. I hung up before she could even reply. I placed my phone facedown and continued putting away groceries while it buzzes constantly. I ignored it until I headed upstairs. I'm getting tired of her constant nagging and trying to set me up with someone. She wanted me to meet somebody and I did. Now that I've met someone, she's unhappy. I can never win with her. She's always been unhappy with the choices I've made especially when I decided to become a writer.
