Matter of fact, she was opinionated as far as this was concerned. After all, a perfect boyfriend liked the boss did not come by every day. She didn't want to break up with him. Marry him and becoming little male lead's stepmother, on the other hand, was not an option either. It was just a matter of time before she broke up with him. Even if he wasn't dead, she wouldn't get back with him. What if he found out that she wasn't original owner? That certainly would not end well.

She must put her own safety over her instant son's mental health.

"Are you saying that you will get back together with him if he is still alive?" - Zhou Qinhe almost slipped and asked but he quickly stopped himself. He knew that it was meaningless to try and compete with a dead person; besides, knowing how heartless she normally was, just because she was telling him to get back together with his ex-wife didn't necessarily mean that she missed her late husband.

That way of thinking, however, did not make him feel completely fine. He had to take a deep breath before he was able to adjust his emotions. Then he said to her calmly, "If it was best for the child, we wouldn't have gotten a divorce in the first place."

Yan Shuyu was already curious after meeting the little male lead's mother today. Now that the boss had brought it up, she asked matter of-factly, "Oh yeah, so why did you two divorce each other?"

Zhou Qinhe wasn't surprised at her curiosity. He did, however, casted her glance before he said, "Why did you ask why I married her in the first place?"

Yan Shuyu was completely oblivious to the change in the boss's mood. Still smiling heartlessly, she said, "Well, I'd love to hear it if you want to share."

Zhou Qinhe, "....”

Boss Zhou finally put down his tie, sat down on the couch, waved at her and looked like he was ready for a long talk. Yan Shuyu quickly pitter-pattered over, sat down next to him, and made like she was ready for whatever he cared to share.

"There wasn't much of a story there. Grandfather Lin had helped out our family when I was still a kid so there were talked that her and I should marry when we grow up. Later on, Grandfather Lin had passed away as did my parents and all of their final wish was for us to get married. As such, we got married matter-of-factly as soon as Lin Surong graduated college."

The boss's voice was calm as though he was telling someone else's story. Yan Shuyu had initially thought that it was quite a romantic story the two of them knowing each other since childhood but one look at his expressionless face, she decided to keep her mouth shut and keep on listening.

"She was young and she desired love. Me, on the other hand, had just taken over the company less than two years prior to that and had a lot of things to take care of. I had neither the time nor the mood to spend time with her. Slow, over time, we drifted further and further apart from each other..."

"You were even busier then than you are now?" Yan Shuyu finally couldn't help but interjected. "Exactly how busy were you?!"

With the husband not being home day after day, never mind the little male lead's mother, even if it was her she'd want to divorce the boss. Not to mention that she as a young mistress from a wealthy family. Why would she want to subject herself to that?

Boss Zhou gave her an expressionless glance and Yan Shuyu's neck shrank quickly. She smiled at him and said, "Carry on. Carry on. I promise I won't interrupt you again."

The conversation took a turn after that point. The boss continued mildly, "I still didn't have time to spend with her even when she was pregnant. She met a friend whom she got along with well and decided to say goodbye to our lifestyle. She took off after she had given birth."

"Wait..." Yan Shuyu, who had promised to not interrupt, looked at the top of the boss's head reflexively and couldn't help but asked, "A friend whom she met... while she was pregnant?"

There was no change in Boss Zhou's look. "She said they were just friends."

"Mmm, mmm." Yan Shuyu nodded. "Then what happened?"

"They moved overseas after the divorce."

Yan Shuyu, “....”

Who'd believe that there wasn't a lush grass field on the top of the boss's head?

With the indifferent look on the boss, Yan Shuyu felt that it would be inappropriate for her to tease him. It was said that a man's ego was a very dangerous territory.

Nevertheless, she got it now. The female side had cheated and led to a divorce. That would explain why everybody avoided talking about her and also explained the distance feel between the little male lead and his mother. "So you've always told Xiao Yi that his mother is overseas?"

"She wanted to pursue love and wished that we would not meddle with her life. I had no choice but to tell Xiao Yi the truth."

The boss may look like he had no better choice but Yan Shuyu wanted to make a comment. He was such a smart man, of course there were many things that he could have done. He merely chose the most direct and simple way that would also serve the purpose of toughing up the little male lead.

Then again, comparing to all of the other stuff that he had done in the book, he was already being a very kind and loving father here. Yan Shuyu decided against commenting on it and, instead, focused on a different point. "If she was going after he true love, why is she back now?"

Zhou Qinhe gave her a smile that wasn't a smile and it seemed to be saying that now you finally figured that out.

Yan Shuyu remained silence. She really wasn't that stupid. But there were just so much information in their conversation today that she couldn't quite focus was all. =.=

Boss Zhou looked back at her and continued to explain to her patiently. "She had split with said friend and heard some of her friends and families back in China mentioned me. When she was zoning out, the boss concluded, "She felt that if you are fine then, for sure, so would she."

"Fine for what?" Yan Shuyu was baffled but the boss just at her calmly and unruffled. Chuckling, he asked, "What do you think?"

Yan Shuyu may not be the smartest one but all women were experts when it came to relationships. She thought over it for a little bit and suddenly understood what the little male lead's mother meant by that - that she wasn't good enough for the boss's love!

She was just trying to eat melon and somehow ended up being looked down upon. Yan Shuyu was irritated all of a sudden. She thrusted out her cleavage that was squeezed out by the gown and said, "What did she mean by 'if I am fine'? Exactly what does she have that I don't."*

Boss Zhou finally smiled for the first time since they have gotten home and that smile was warm like a breeze in spring time. "Mmm. You are irresplaceable."

Yan Shuyu, "....”

Yan Shuyu blushed uncontrollably all of a sudden. Something had gotten into the boss lately. What's was all the mushiness coming from him? They were too much for her.
