《Male Lead's Villainess Stepmother》Chapter 12 - The Story Behind The Villainess Stepmother

Yan Shuyu had not expected that even the late husband of the villainess stepmother was a super handsome boy. She wasn’t exactly envious of the stepmother’s luck, although she was quite the winner in life. Her second husband Zhou Qinhe was already a class A male god, and her late husband was every bit as handsome. Either one of them could have easily attracted thousands to tens of thousands of young girls. Was this stepmother a male-god collector?

Yan Shuyu has her doubts. The villainess stepmother was but a cannon fodder who didn’t even make the rank of a villainess boss in the story. Her existent should be that of a theatrical property, so why did she have such a comprehensive and touching backstory? That did not make any sense.

The stepmother’s backstory did not sound like that of a cannon fodder at all; in fact, it was that for a main character!

Nevertheless, the ending of the villainess stepmother was already predetermined, it was meaningless to wonder about that now. Yan Shuyu gently patted her instant son, who was very focused on looking at the picture right now, on his shoulder before she painfully put away the marriage certificate.

She felt that she had a better understanding of the original owner’s feelings now and why she had stopped talking about her late husband altogether. She even went as far as getting rid of all his pictures as though he had never existed. There could only be one explanation for her extreme actions – that she loved her late husband so much that she couldn’t move on, except by forcing herself to forget about it. After all, even when she thought about how handsome her late husband her, she almost felt like she had lost $5 million dollars and that her heart ached every time she thought about him. She could only imagine how the original owner must have felt.

She hadn’t expected the villainess stepmother to be so flesh and blood and have such a sensual and mortal side to her.

Yan Shuyu couldn’t help but lament before she decided to follow in the footsteps of the original owner and lock up everything that had to do with her late husband. After all, he was gone and no good would come out of thinking about him.

This was the first time Zhong Yuhuan saw his father that he had always been thinking about. Even though it was just a picture, it was still a precious treasure to him. He leaned all over Yan Shuyu and wouldn’t even blink. When the marriage certificate with closed suddenly and heartlessly, the normally strong little boy looked at his mother. Close to tears, he asked, “Can I look at daddy one more time?”

Yan Shuyu was determined to pay as much attention to her instant son’s mental health as well as his physical health, meaning she couldn’t not explain anything to him like the original owner. She didn’t want that to be the reason the villainous boss thought that he never had a father thus causing him to want to fight over someone else’s father in the future.

She thought about it for a little bit and said to her son in the most serious tone, “Yuanbao, mom showed you your daddy’s picture today to let you know that just like other kids, you have a daddy too. And, just as you have seen, your daddy was much better than other little kids’ daddies. It was very unfortunate that daddy had an accident and was no longer with us, but it was his biggest hope that we will be happy in our lives. That’s why you can’t dwell on the fact that he was gone, okay? He’d be disappointed on the other side. Yuanbao will need to grow up quickly and become a real man like your daddy.”

It was possible that the idea of a father was deeply rooted in every kid’s mind. Even though Zhang Yuanjia had never seen his dad except for the pictures and only heard a few things about him, his little face was still filled with yearning. Looking up, he asked him mother excitedly, “Mom, is dad a well-respected hero?”

Yan Shuyu paused for a bit then, finally, under the hopeful look of the little kiddo, lied through her teeth and said, “Yes.”

Certainly, her late husband was a bum whose life worth less than that of a bug, but he still shielded the original owner and her son the best he could and altered the original owner’s life to a certain degree. If he never ran off with the original owner, she might have already been sold by her parents and her life was ruined completely.

After they had the accidental child and were living in abject poverty, he still tried to give the original owner the best that he could. The first thing he had done when he became a small leader in the gang was to change the identity of the original owner to her current name.

Speaking of the name, Yan Shuyu felt that it was all meant to be after she had transmigrated. She had never met anyone that had the same name as herself in her entire life. Her name was picked by her grandfather’s brother who was a college professor. Many said that the name sounded very poetic. And the original owner had the exactly same name as her. Coincidence?

It was surely a good thing that the original owner was able to get away from her poor and stupid family and resumed a new identity so they’d never be able to find her.

Other than the original owner’s identity, the two of them had been together before they have reached legal age. On top of that, she was pregnant before they were married. Both the marriage certificate and Zhang Yuanjia’s birth certificate were challenging issues, but her late husband had them all taken care of. It was because of that that Yan Shuyu didn’t need to worry about any of them after her transmigration.

From this perspective, she truly felt that her instant son’s father was an amazing man. Had he not died so young, he might even because the big boss of a gang. The villainous boss probably got his outstanding hereditary from his father.

If Yan Shuyu was lamenting, Zhang Yuanjia, who was full of yearning for his dad, was definitely filled with pride. Blinking his limpid eyes, he begged, “Mom, can you please tell me more about dad?”

The little kiddo certainly knew how to push the envelope. First he just asked to see his dad, now he wanted to ask about him. Yan Shuyu was going to tease him a little, but, in consideration of his future mental health, she did not turn down his request. She merely brought up her condition, “Okay, but you will have to promise me that you will not bring up daddy again in the future. We will need to get used to life without your daddy and move forward. Alright?”

Zhang Yuanjia bit his lips and finally agreed to her condition, but even at his young age he knew what a fair exchange was, “Okay, but you will have to tell me about everything I want to know!”

Yan Shuyu didn’t try to weasel out of it this time, “I will tell you anything that I know. Okay, go lie down in bed, let me put everything back first.”

Zhang Yuanjia turned around frequently on his way back to bed. Yan Shuyu quickly packed everything back up from the floor and shoved them back inside the drawer before going to the bathroom and washing her hands. After she returned to the side of the bed, she saw that the little kiddo was struggling to keep his eyes open ^__^

Yan Shuyu couldn’t help but smile, “Do you want to take a nap first? We can chat tonight instead?”

Stubbornly, the little boy expressed his desire to carry on right away. Yan Shuyu didn’t need to take naps, so she didn’t care either way. She leaned comfortably on the pillow and said, “Okay, you can ask me whatever you like now.”

As much as he looked up to big hero, Yan Shuyu expected the first question to be what was daddy’s biggest power, instead, the little kiddo sighed and asked in a very adult tone, “Why isn’t dad here with us anymore?”

“Um….” That caught Yan Shuyu a little off guard. She quickly organized her thoughts and said, “Daddy did it all for us. You were still a little baby back then, you needed milk and someone to take care of you, so daddy has to make money to support the three of us. One day he had an accident at work and that’s how he was gone.”

Yan Shuyu felt that she was such a genius to be able to phrase a gangster gun fight in such a refreshing way. After her instant son heard the story, he lowered his head, distressed, and said, “It was all my fault.”

“Of course not. Daddy loved Yuanbao more than anything else. He’d do anything for you.”

Your own daddy was so nice that you didn’t need to be envious of male lead’s daddy, get it? Yan Shuyu was trying as hard as she could to shape her instant son’s positive outlook on this subject.

Zhang Yuanjia was just as curious as any other kids. Given him enough time, he could literally ask 10,000 questions. His little mouth asked all sorts of questions and never stopped for the entire afternoon. He even got gossipy in the end, “How did mom and dad meet?”

“Since we were kids. We grew up together.”

“So mom knew dad when he was Yuanbao’s age?” The little kiddo looked at her, full of surprise, “Was dad as cute as Yuanbao when he was a kid?”

Truth be told, Yan Shuyu did not find any of the original owner’s memory of her late husband when he was a child, possibly because it was too long ago.

The original owner’s memory of him started during her late grade school years just before she started junior high school. Both the original owner and her late husband lived in a poor and remote village that didn’t have a school of their own. After third grade, they’d need to go to school in their neighboring village. Everyday they’d have to hike through the hill for about a good part of an hour. There weren’t a lot of girls in the village and even less that was attending school. Every day, when the original owner was walking to and from school, there were always a few boys teasing her. Finally, she befriended Zhang Xiaolu, a person that most kids tend to avoid, and she was never bullied again.

Zhang Xiaolu was milky-white and delicate and usually had on clean clothes. He looked nothing like a village boy, but he was vicious whenever he got into a fight, which was why kids in the village were afraid to play with him. Zhang Xiaolu’s mom and dad had four additional daughters before they had him, so he was particularly spoiled. Later on, his mom had another boy, and he became the one that nobody cared about, which was also why he didn’t hesitate at all when original owner suggested to elope. The two of them packed their stuff and left that very night.

Yan Shuyu sat up abruptly after remembering this part. Original owner had almost no recollection of Zhang Xiaolu when he was younger, could he have been kidnapped and brought to the village?

Truth be told, if one was to look at the attractiveness of both the original owner and her late husband, they both looked like they could have been kidnapped. Yan Shuyu, however, had no doubt about the original owner’s identify. She vaguely remembered that when she was 2 or 3 years old, she had an older brother and an older sister. Later on, she had another younger brother. Her family said they couldn’t afford so many kids so they gave her older sister away. They even thought about giving away the original owner as well, but her grandmother said she was so pretty that she’d be able to marry into a good family, which was why they ended up keeping her.

The way that Yan Shuyu looked at this was – they had already given away her older sister, if the original owner was not their own child, there was no way they would have kept her, regardless of how pretty she was.

The situation surrounding Zhang Xiaolu’s family was more peculiar. With all the daughters that they had, they only kept one of them. The other three were given away, although some elders in the village said their family sold their daughters. Regardless, Zhang Xiaolu was the one they had “prayed” for. Even if they had another son later on, it wouldn’t make sense that they had completely ignored the older one unless he wasn’t their real son. Take the original owner’s parents for example, both their older and younger sons were their precious babies.

Now, if Zhang Xiaolu wasn’t their own child, then it all made sense.

The backstory of the villainess stepmother was getting more and more exciting.

Yan Shuyu only spent a few seconds in her heightened mood. After a second thought, her late husband was already gone; regardless of whether he was the biological child of the

Zhang’s, she wouldn’t be able to find out his true identity for him. So was the point of getting stirred up over that?

Yan Shuyu collected herself and saw that the little kiddo was still blinking at her and waiting for her to answer his question. She smiled and said, “Yes, daddy was as cute as Yuanbao when he was a kid, which was why Yuanbao would be as handsome as daddy when he grows up.

“Yes, I will!” said the little kiddo. He nodded forcefully. Hearing the answer that he wanted, he didn’t think much about mom zoning out.

After he finished saying that, the alarm clock that Yan Shuyu had set went off. She turned it off as she patted his instant son and said, “Okay, time is up. Let’s get up and go to work.”
