《Just Revenge (#1)》The Friend's Advice

"I am really impressed with these designs. There are only a few changes that I am requesting otherwise we can finalize on them."

I clenched my hand in a fist under the table. I am going to slaughter this bastard.

No, no. I am not talking about Aaron, for a change. I am talking about this secretary of the Duke's grandson. He has been staring at me flirtatiously since I entered the room. I have given him so many signals that I am not interested. He is just infuriatingly shameless. I am almost on the verge of getting up and slapping him hard on the face.

"Very well, Mr. Silva. It should not be a problem.", Aaron said looking at me for confirmation.

"Um...yeah sure", I answered with a shrug.

"Alright then. You can decide with my secretary when will be a good time to meet again with the changed designs, Miss..." Duke's grandson looked at me expectantly to give him my name.

"Missus. She is Mrs. Amelia." Aaron answered for me.

"Oh, you are married?" asked the secretary with a surprise.

"Yes, she is very happily married", Aaron said with a smile.

"Well then, see you later, Mrs. Amelia and Mr. Kingston." The Duke's grandson smiled and left with a very embarrassed secretary tailing behind. Peter escorted them out. I bit my lip to hide my smile. It was funny to see the secretary so embarrassed.

Soon everyone else left too, as I was packing the designs neatly and once again it was just Aaron and I, left alone in the conference room.

"You are welcome", Aaron said tilting his head slightly upwards.

"For what? I never even thanked you in the first place", I asked him with a frown.

"Firstly, for motivating you to design something so good and secondly," Aaron got up from his chair and sat on the table, "For getting rid of that flirty bastard of a secretary."

He knew? He knew that the secretary was trying to flirt with me? Oh my god. I swear, Aaron Kingston is a mystery I will never be able to solve.

"How did you know that he was throwing lewd glances at me?" I asked before I could stop myself.

"Because you were on the edge of your seat almost ready to punch him. I guess what saved him was that we were in middle of a meeting." Aaron smirked at me.

"Were you concentrating on the clients or me?" I asked cockily.

"You wish. I am just an observant man, remember?" Aaron scoffed and I shook my head.

We walked out of the conference room and entered the elevator. It was already lunch time and I guess everyone had left so the elevator was empty. It was just the two of us inside. I decided to text Luke to ask him if he already left.

"What are you doing for lunch?" Aaron said looking at me.

"Well, I was just asking Luke if he left for lunch. I'll probably join him", I shrugged.

"Why? Is it some kind of a Reunion of Long Lost Friends rule that you need to have lunch together everyday until you die?" Aaron glared at me making me chuckle.

"It is just that we enjoy talking to each other while we are eating", I told him with a smile.

Aaron scoffed at me. "Right, enjoy talking to each other. What do you guys even talk about everyday? The weather?"

"Well, we talk about a lot of things", I shrugged.

"I doubt it is just talking that you enjoy", Aaron muttered something along those lines but, I kind of heard him.

I didn't get a chance to reply as we reached our floor. We walked towards our offices.

"Hey Amy, glad you are here. How did the meeting go?" Luke asked making me notice him.

"Nice, it was good. I texted you about lunch", I told him.

"Yes, I was waiting for you. Where do you want to go?" he asked and I looked at Aaron from the corner of my eye. He was just looking at us expressionlessly.

"Actually, I-" I started but was cut off by a very shrill voice right behind me. The one voice that I will never ever forget.

"Aaron Kingston, I have missed you so much", said Ashley Jones making all of us turn to look at her.

"Ashley!" Aaron looked at her with his eyebrows raised in surprise which later turned to a smiling face.

Before anyone could even think of anything, Ashley ran past me and hugged Aaron. And Aaron fucking hugged her back!

"Aaron, I have missed you so much. I just came back from London and the first thing I did after going home is come and see you. I heard you got married three months ago. I was so sad that I was not invited, you know. Who is your wife? Is it that girl? What was her name again?" she asked still clinging to Aaron.

"Amelia. The name is Amelia." I decided to make my presence known.

"Oh! Oh yes, of course. How are you, Amy? It is...good to...to see you again." She was shamelessly clinging to Aaron and eyeing me up and down. The look in her eye clearly said 'I-am-better-than-you' and her smile was as real as flying pigs.

"It is Amelia, for you. Only my friends call me Amy", I said glaring at her.

She looked at me shocked. I turned my head to look at Aaron and gave him a look which clearly said, 'Aaron Kingston, if you do not push her away right now, I will poison you to death.'

"Aaron, did you hear that? How can she talk to me like that?" Ashley shrieked again making me cringe.

Aaron pushed her away slightly and said, "Don't worry, Ashley. Mel has a very peculiar kind of friend list. Only the most privileged people get their names on it." Aaron said looking behind me.

I turned to see that he was looking at Luke.

"Mr. Luke Thompson." He smiled at Luke and nodded his head once. Luke smiled back with a frown.

How did Aaron know Luke's last name was Thompson? I don't remember ever mentioning it. Well, maybe it is a boss thing.

"Amy, we should get going." Luke said to me.

"Yes, of course. Let's go, Luke. I am starving and we should not waste time talking to people who lack intelligence", I said looking at Ashley as Luke coughed miserably trying to hide his laughter.

We walked away and I heard Ashley complain to Aaron.

We went to a chinese restaurant and ordered our food. We were sitting near the window eating our food. Luke was talking about something that happened in the office while I was in the meeting. But, my mind was stuck on Aaron.

What must be he doing? Was he still talking to Ashley? Is that woman still stuck to him like glue? Why am I thinking of him? Why do I still care? It is not like I still love him after all. He doesn't belong to me. I should be glad in fact. If he finds his true love in Ashley Jones, I will be free. Why does that thought unsettle me though? Do I not want him to be with Ashley? Well, of course. Ashley is dumb. But, would I be really okay if it was someone else?

Why do I care though? How does it matter to me if he wants Ashley or Jasmine or some other girl? I mean yes, Aaron helped me with my work. He intended to inspire me to be better. But, so what? He did it like a good boss, right? Not like a good husband. He doesn't even consider me his wife. But, then today morning he saved me again from that secretary. And yet, he is the same Aaron who cheated on me, made me do all the chores like his slave, played with my feelings for two years and married me for just revenge. He is the one because of whom I almost lost my life even though he was the one who actually saved me in the end. Seriously, Aaron's behavior since last two days has confused me to the brink. What should I believe? I must believe the Aaron who hates me or the one that supported and helped me?

Oh god, why is it so confusing! I think my head will burst. I need to talk about it with someone. Someone needs to guide me on what I should do.

"Earth to Amy." Luke waved his hand in front of me getting me out of my thoughts.

"Sorry, I was just thinking about-"

"About Aaron, right?" Luke asked and I nodded biting on my lip.

"You are still thinking about him and that girl Ashley? You need to chill, girl. She must be his friend just like I am yours", Luke shrugged.

"No, it is not that. I was actually-" I stopped because even I didn't know what I wanted to say.

"Amy, you don't have to be jealous. Even I could tell that Aaron was not interested in her. Besides, he is your husband", Luke explained.

"I am not jealous. I am just thinking about what they must be doing. Jealousy would be if I was getting worked up about it or I would want to hit that Ashley for clinging to Aaron or if I would be clenching my fist right now." I frowned.

This is not being jealous.

Luke chuckled and said, "Your fist is clenched, Amy."

I opened my fist at once and said, "I am not jealous. Why would I be jealous?"

"Because you are his wife. But, more importantly, because you have trust issues. I thought Aaron might be an exception, considering you love him, but no", Luke shrugged.

"I don't have trust issues. I just don't trust anyone easily", I pouted. But, I did try trusting Aaron the most I could bring myself to trust anyone and see, where that landed me.

"Amy, there is only one person on this planet that you have ever trusted completely. Admit it, you have trust issues", Luke smirked.

"You don't understand, Luke. Aaron and I..we are..."

Should I tell him? Maybe he can help me. He is the observant one between us after all. But, the prenup said that I shouldn't. Well, Aaron did tell Daniel though.

Luke was still looking at me expectantly, waiting for me to continue. At that time, I made one of the most important decisions of my life.

"Luke, I need to tell you something."

For the next twenty minutes or so, I told Luke everything that happened since the wedding. The wedding night fiasco, Aaron blackmailing me, making me do all the household work, disturbing my sleep, cheating on me, the Jasmine incident, Aaron taking me to the hospital, his challenge for me, the talk we had last night and how he helped me today morning.

When I finished Luke was completely silent. He didn't say a word. While I was talking, he did say a lot of 'What?' , 'The fuck', 'Are you serious?', 'Is he insane?', 'What the fucking hell!' and 'You've got to be kidding me.' But, nothing after I told him what happened yesterday and today. He seemed to be deep in thought.

"Luke? Say something", I nudged him.

"I don't know, Amy. I don't know what to say", Luke shrugged.

"Luke..." I gave him a pleading look.

"Okay, honestly, I kind of had an inkling that something was off between the two of you. I mean I have observed the way you both have been the past couple of months and even past week since we all started working on the fourteenth floor. At first, I thought that maybe it was because you guys want to hide your relationship. But, now that I know everything, things are too complicated for me to judge by just listening to you. I mean I can understand that he cares for you, definitely. He could have let you die in the bathtub if that is all that he wanted. Money can do wonders and I have no doubt that he would have gotten away with that. So, the fact that he saved you means that he didn't want you to die. He also wants to harass you though, for his revenge purposes. So, I guess the first thing you should do is find out what is the reason behind his revenge."

"You think I haven't tried that? I have asked him almost a million times. He just gets more rude and angry." I frowned at him.

"Really? You think he will tell you, Amy? If he wanted to tell you he would have done it a long time ago. You need to find out by yourself. That will definitely make things a lot clearer for you", Luke smirked at me.

"I don't know, Luke. This is just so difficult", I groaned.

"The course of true love never did run smooth", Luke said impersonating Shakespeare.

I laughed and said, "We do not love each other, Luke. Aaron is extracting revenge and I am stuck in his web. There is no love involved." At least, not now. Definitely, not after he cheated.

Luke just smiled at me in return.

"I don't even know where to start, Luke", I said rolling my eyes.

"You are not alone. We'll try to figure it out together." Luke said holding my hand that I had kept on the table.

"There is no way around it, is it?" I asked raising an eyebrow making Luke shake my head in denial.

"Guess not", Luke shrugged.

After a second, Luke said, "Fuck, Amy. Look at the time. We need to rush."

I checked my watch and realised it was almost two. Lunch time ended at one thirty. I sighed and we got up to go back to work.

"So, what's your secret?" I asked Luke as we entered the elevator.

"What secret? You know all my secrets already" Luke frowned at me.

"The one that you haven't told me yet. Your personal work which keeps you busy every Monday and Wednesday afternoon during half the lunch time. The secret for which you left me alone in the club for like an hour." I teased him.

"That..." Luke chuckled.

"Yes, that. What is that little personal work of yours?" I laughed as we exited the elevator.

"Well, I'll tell you in a few days, I guess", Luke laughed.

"I will count you on that", I smirked as we got back to work.

After about ten minutes, Peter tapped on my shoulder.

"Amy, boss is calling you." Peter said to me.

"What does he want now?" I grumbled making the lady next to me give me a weird look. I just ignore her and went with Peter.

"Boss, Ms. Lawson is here." Peter said as we entered the room.

Aaron looked away from his laptop and as soon as his gaze fell on me, his eyes turned cold. I gulped in fear of what about to happen.

"Leave us alone, Peter", Aaron said, his voice had a weird sound to it.

What is wrong? I am really getting scared now.

Peter left the office and I took a deep breath. I waited for him to say something but he just stared at me.

"You...you a..a..asked for me?" I stammered.

"What time is it?" he asked me.

"Two ten." I answered after looking at my watch.

"What time does lunch end?" he asked again.

"One thirty." I answer biting my lip.

"Then, what the hell were you doing for half an hour?" he yelled making me flinch.

"I lost track of time."

"Lost track of time! Mrs. Amelia Kingston, I think I need to remind you that just because I was kind to you for one day doesn't mean that things have changed between us. You are still an employee here", Aaron said.

"Ms. Amelia Lawson", I corrected him.

"What?" he gritted.

"For my colleagues and my boss , I am Amelia Lawson not Kingston", I told him with defiance in my eyes.

"Do not talk to me like that when you are at fault. You wasted half an hour talking and eating while everyone else was working. We still have a lot of work to do on this project", Aaron got up from his chair and stood in front of me.

"I will make up for that half an hour after work, okay?" I asked.

"It is not the half an hour that matters. It is the work ethic."

"Is that it? Can I go?" I asked him in a deliberate bored tone.

"No, that is not it. How can you talk to Ashley like that? She is my friend", he said getting somewhat calmer.

"Exactly, she is your friend. Not mine. You very well know what opinion I have of her. Do not expect me to behave nice with her. Ever", I told him with finality and turned to leave without waiting for a reply.

I was going back to my desk when Peter walked towards me.

"Hey, Peter. I didn't see you around yesterday. How was the weekend?" I asked him smiling.

"Good, great actually. Jenny and I took Reece to Coney Island over the weekend. It was fun. Recee bought so many toys and literally didn't wanna go home. We had to lure him to go in the end", Peter laughed.

"Sounds fun", I replied with a smile but my head was stuck on something else.

Coney Island brought back a lot of memories. Memories that I didn't want to come back.

Peter and I parted ways. I started working but my mind was still stuck on Coney Island.

Flashback

"Aaron, where do you wanna go next?" I asked linking my arm with his.

"I don't know, Mel. You tell me. You have enjoyed each and every ride here twice, some thrice, eaten popcorn and candy floss, won these games and literally did more stuff than those kids there. What else do you want to do?" Aaron asked laughing.

"Do not pretend that you didn't enjoy yourself. It was a fun date idea and the credit goes to the one and only, Amelia Lawson", I told him haughtily.

"Yes, too much fun", Aaron winked at me.

"I can't believe you haven't been to Coney Island in all these years that you have been in New York. It is the best place in NYC. It is so much fun", I told him.

"How old are you exactly, Mel?" Aaron asked.

"Twenty four. Why?" I rolled my eyes.

"Nothing, just making sure I am not dating a kid", Aaron laughed.

"Shut up. Take it back", I fake glared at him.

I can never be angry at Aaron. We have dated for four months now and I haven't been able to stay angry at him for more than two minutes, in total. He is just too sweet. He is so caring that I am sure that he can not bear to see me cry. I know that he is the one person I can trust with my life if I have to.

"I am not taking it back. It is true, you know. I haven't seen anyone enjoy so much in an amusement park. You literally spent the whole day here. They are about to close the park", Aaron laughed.

"Because it was fun. I can't believe it is the end of the day already", I argued making him laugh more.

"Well, it is though. Let's go", Aaron told me pulling my hand but I just pouted.

"Come on, Mel. We will come back next time", Aaron laughed.

"Stop laughing. With the amount of work you have nowadays, the next time will be after a year probably. Why do you have to work so hard?" I asked him.

"Because I love my work as much as you love yours", Aaron said pushing a strand of my hair behind my ear.

"Why are you not like those cheesy boyfriends from those romance novels who skip work sometimes to spend time with their girlfriends?" I asked him.

"Because my girlfriend knows that I do not cheat on my work and would hate it if I do." Aaron smirked.

"True, I wouldn't like that. I like this punctual and disciplined Aaron more", I said smiling at him and putting my arms around his neck.

Aaron's eyes shifted from my eyes to my lips. He gulped and snaked his arm around my waist pulling me closer. His gaze later shifted again to my eyes searching in them. I knew what he was about to do. He was about to kiss me but was waiting for me to give him permission.

Well, so the thing is that even though we have been dating for four months and have made it official for like two months now, we haven't really kissed. Actually, we haven't kissed at all. Except the pecks on cheeks and forehead. The problem is that initially I was not ready and Aaron didn't push me at all. Later on, it never came up as an issue. But lately, Aaron has been trying to initiate it but, sometimes we get disturbed and sometimes I get nervous jitters. It is my first kiss after all!
