I knocked on Ethan's office door three times until I heard his voice.
"Come in." He said sophisticatedly. I opened the door and quickly closed it behind me. There was fear in my eyes and he clearly noticed. He stood up from his chair and walked over to me. "What're you doing here, Jordyn?"
"Matt and Riley came over and--" I said quickly as he held my arms.
"Matt and Riley?" He questioned. "Why?"
"They came to tell me something and I'm trying to tell you." I nodded.
"Okay, okay, sorry, continue." He lightly smiled, not knowing how serious this could be.
"Josie's out of prison." I said and he took a step back.
"She's what?!" He raised his voice.
"And she's looking for us."
"W-what? No, this doesn't make any sense." He shook his head. "How can she be out already?"
"Matt told me she had got out early for good behavior."
"Bullshit good behavior! Do they even know what she did to do? She almost kil-." He ran his hands through his hair and walked around his office. "Shit, shit, shit." He hit his desk.
"Ethan, what do we do?" I sat down in a chair that was in the corner.
"Fuck, I--I, don't know." He sat down on his chair and ran his hands over his face. "We can't just leave town." He shook his head. "Do we file a police report?"
"They told me they only heard it around. It may not even be true... What if it's not true?"
"Do you really think it could be a false rumor?" He stood up and walked over to me. He kneeled down in front of me and took my hands.
"I don't know." I shrugged my shoulders. "She wanted to once before, she could want to do it again."
"I thought what I told her at the police station years ago stuck with her. It probably did, yeah." He nodded his head and stood up, trying to convince himself that this rumor isn't true.
"Do you really think so?" I asked.
"I don't know, but I can't imagine her trying this again. She knows I want nothing to do with her." He pulled me off of the chair and pulled me close to him. "I promise you, I will not let anyone hurt you."

I looked up to him and lightly smiled, still nervous of the whole situation.
"I promise." He whispered again and cupped my cheeks with his warm hands. "Nothing will ever hurt you. Not ever again." He rested his forehead on mine.
"I love you." I whispered.
"I love you too." He pressed his lips against mine very softly. At that moment, I felt at ease and safe. For the past five years, Ethan has never let me down, not once.
I pulled away and smiled up at him. I held onto his wrists as he still cupped my hands.
"This could just be a rumor for all we know. It probably is a rumor. I told her that I was going to marry you and nothing was ever going to make me love her more than I love you. She knows nothing will tear me and you apart." He said lightly and I smiled.
"You're right, you're right." I let out a deep breath. "I think it was just a huge shock, but you're right, it's just a false rumor." I nodded.
"It's going to be okay. I'll make sure of it." He smiled and kissed my nose.
"Thank you." I smiled and nodded my head. I placed my head against his chest as he squeezed me tight.
"Do you want to stay in my office for a bit?" He asked as I pulled away.
"Are you sure I won't bother you?"
"You're always on my mind." He chuckled. "You staying here will make me feel better, trust me."
"Alright." I shrugged my shoulders and sat in the chair in the corner. He sat in his chair and typed a few words on his computer.
He looked up to me a couple of times and lightly smiled, I was such a distraction. I was beginning to feel bad.
"Are you even typing anything?" I asked with my legs crossed over each other.
"No." He leaned back in his chair. I stood off of my chair and walked over to him. I leaned against his desk and he placed his hand on my thigh.
"I can leave, you know." I looked down at him and he puttered out his bottom lip like he use to do when we were younger.

"Please don't." He grabbed my hand. I smiled and nodded my head.
Ethan's door opened and in came another man in a suit.
"Oh, sorry, should I came back later?" He stopped in his tracks and looked at Ethan.
"No, it's all good, come in." Ethan sat back in his chair.
"Are you sure?" He looked over to me while closing the door. "I can come back later."
"Don't worry about it. What's up?"
The man sat in one of the two chairs that was right in front of Ethan's desk.
"I wanted to ask you about the Scottsdale file?" He sat down and peered over to me every once in a while, probably confused on who I was.
"Yeah, what about it?" Ethan crossed his arms, he was so intimidating.
"Uh, I'm sorry." The man shook his head. "Should we be talking about this here with--?" He looked over to me.
"Oh!" Ethan sat up straight in his chair. "This is my wife Jordyn. Jordyn this is my assistant Daniel."
"Oh, I'm sorry!" He stood up and reached to shake my hand.
"No problem, I'm sure he doesn't talk about me a whole bunch." I shook his hand and smiled.
"Trust me, he does." Daniel smiled.
I looked down to Ethan and there was a slight blush in his cheeks.
"Now back to that file." Ethan interrupted to get the attention off of him being so sweet. I lightly chuckled and walked away from them since I wasn't going to understand any of it.
I've never really been to his office a whole bunch so it was sort of interesting to see what he keeps in his space. Ethan did have a pretty big space for just himself, I was proud to see how far up the chain he's gotten.
On the right side of the room there were a few shelves where he kept some books and pictures of us both. It made me smile.
"I hope that clears things up, Daniel." Ethan said.
"Yes, thank you. I'll get this finished immediately." Daniel stood up off of the the chair and walked towards the door.
"Thank you, Daniel." Ethan looked back at his computer.
"It was so nice to finally meet you, Jordyn." He smiled towards me.
"You too, Daniel." I smiled and walked towards Ethan.
Daniel walked out of the door and closed it behind him. I leaned back on Ethan's desk and wanted to chuckled, but held it in.
"What?" He leaned in his chair.
"I think it's cute that you're so intimidating to everyone here, but you're actually a sensitive lil guy at home."
"I'm not intimidating." He smiled and shook his head.
"You're assistant is so nervous to come in here when you have company."
"He's just--a shy kid." He shrugged his shoulders.
"Okay, yeah." I rolled my eyes and smiled. "I should get back home and let you finish up your work."
"No, no, no." He tugged on my hand. "I like having you here."
"Getting your work done is far more important than me keeping you company during the day." I tilted my head and he groaned.
"Please." He begged and I continued to glare at him. "Okay, okay, what about this? What if we go into the closet and--" He smirked.
"You're such a teenager." I rolled my eyes and chuckled. "Get your work done." I began to walk towards the door.
"Hold on." He jumped up from his chair and ran over to me. "I'll see you when I get home then?"
"That's more like it." I smiled and leaned my lips onto his. It wasn't a long kiss, but it certainly did make me happy.
He pulled away and smiled lightly. "Drive safe."
I nodded my head and walked out of his office. I began to make my way towards the elevator, thinking about what we talked about.
This Josie rumor is most likely false, I shouldn't worry about it. She might not even be out of the prison yet.
Ethan is so cute when he's trying to intimidate others.
I love Ethan and he loves me, that's all that matters to me at this point.

Sexy Sect Babes
“One in a billion.” Jack kept repeating the mantra in his head. “One in a billion.” That was the number the Omni-Corps liked to cite whenever someone stepped onto one trans-mat pad and then simply… never stepped off the other. “Safer than a car,” he repeated as he slogged through the snow, his mining overalls doing at least a passable job of keeping out the cold as he brushed aside a tree branch. “Safer than a plane. Or a starship. Safest form of transport in the Star League.” He slammed his fist into a nearby tree, exo-empowered strength shattering it into little more than scattered bark and kindling. “Yeah, well I never heard of a car ride stranding some prick in another dimension!” He roared, his voice echoing through the seemingly endless forest around him. Then he kept marching. He’d seen the fire off in the distance. And given all the snow around, he sincerely doubted it was natural. Which left the unnatural. Which meant people. He hoped. Because even if the trans-mat had screwed up, he doubted it had dumped him too far off the central finite curve. The fact that the air was breathable and that he could recognize the trees around him as oak told him that much. And if the dimension he was in had trees native to Earth, chances are it would have animals too. Of which humans would hopefully be no exception. “Because I’ll be damned if I spend the rest of my days talking to goddamn squirrels.” No, if there were humans on this mudball, he was going to find them. One way or another.

BODY&SHADOW
AN ILLUSTRATED NOVEL • UPDATES TUESDAY AND FRIDAY In a time before living memory, the King Dragon of the Void watched the world and realized there was a crack. He realized that humanity was destroying the rock upon which they lived; they leaked life’s code into the churning chaos. At first the change was imperceptible: nanites overtook microorganisms, bacteria, viruses, amoebas. Insects became increasingly inorganic; birds and lizards followed soon after. Even humans were infected by their own advances, cell by cell, till there was not a person left on earth who wasn’t at least part synthetic, the product of a prior generation’s carelessness. The world’s population was ravaged by mechanical viruses with no vaccines; they were mercilessly overtaken by bacteria that knew no death. Soon, most of the planet was empty and only a handful remained who remembered the hedonist realm they came from; only a few were left who remembered what the world looked like when their buildings touched the sky. The King Dragon of the Void watched the rock turn. He watched humans cower as the Old World fell down around them; watched their great monuments crumble into dusty ruins; watched their codes become precious, ancient gem memories forged under the crushing pressure of so many fallen stones. The world has spun many times around the sun since chaos swallowed man whole. It is a simpler time than the one that died out, but the people now are not immune to the folly of the people before. There is old code everywhere: in the water, in the air, in the trees. The heart of man has been replaced by power cores, many of which are hard-coded with preternatural abilities—when they die, an esoteric mountain sect collects their cores and stores them in their hollow mountain home to preserve the sanctity and dignity of human death. They’ve learned to harness artifacts of the old world, gemstones full of codes their nanite infused bodies can parse as spells imbuing their users with great power; they inlay them into their bodies, into their skins, connected to their cores by copper conduit and gold tracers; they dress themselves in tattoos to advertise their prowess; they battle for relics in arenas, fight for them in the open world wherever they are found. The King Dragon of the Void watches the rock turn and wonders: when will this hunger finally make the rock stop spinning? WELCOME TO FANXING CITY … Twenty-five years ago, Fanxing City and the surrounding lands were commanded by the mad King Zao Beiguan. For many years, the King hoarded wealth, artifacts, food; he demanded tribute from a people already taxed to the edges of their existence and expected they be happy with their circumstances. Noncompliance was often punished harshly, bodies displayed proudly on Fanxing’s streets as a warning, from the city gates to the Zao palace’s golden doors. The youths of several prominent clans came together to overthrow the tyrant and made names for themselves as legendary heroes across the land: Tian, Ren, Feng, Gui, Ma, and Zhenxi. Even wanderers from the Luanshi sect descended from Yunji mountain to aid the rebellion. When the dust settled after three years, Tian Yunyong ascended the throne of Fanxing and swore to honour his slain father’s memory, and has maintained Fanxing’s peace with generosity and mercy where fear and cruelty once reigned.
