Nora's mother had a brief relationship with the head of SHIELD and had a daughter but it ended badly and her mother took her and ran. She had a really good relationship with her mother and they were alone for 13 years. Nick would see his child every so often but eventually her mom married and had another kid. It was a happy family as they lived in uptown Manhattan.
One day, their house was shot up by some SHIELD enemies that found out that Nick Fury's child was basically unprotected. The accident was all a blur but the bullets caused an explosion that killed her family and severely injured her.
After her world turned upside down and she was confined to wheelchair, the Avengers took her in as a favor
- In the accident, her injury damaged her spine and she was briefly partially paralysed. She regained feeling after 4 months but only got back some of the movements in her legs. She can stand with help and feel but she lost the ability to walk so is in a wheelchair
- Her relationship with her father was always strained but, after rehabilitation to live with her disability, she forgave him
- She lives in the Avengers compound as her father is afraid that there's a chance that she'd be targeted again
- Natasha taught her some self defence moves to do without her legs just for fun
