《ONLY US (ongoing)》Chapter 15

Mabel sat and waited for Adonis to come back.

She almost laughed when she thought about it.

She's always waiting for him to come to her but she never tries to seek him out.

So she decided she was going to go find him.

At first she kind of just walked around lamely, trying to listen out for anyone, anything, but after a while she realised that "the dark" now occupied no one.

But as she stumbled through empty silent corridors she caught a small noise in the distance.

her wolf urged.

Mabel didn't need telling twice before she was approaching the sound, as it became louder and louder.

It was an almost wail, a cry of desperation.

She came across a door where the sound seemed to be emitting from, a door that looked remarkably like her own cell door.

She opened it to find a woman, no older than her, laying in the corner of the room- alone and bloody.

Mabel instinctively rushed forward, hands outstretched as she went to hold the girl who seemed to be on the brink of death.

The girls eyes held Mabels and tears rushed down the path that seemed to be carved into her cheeks.

"He-help them, oh god please help them." The woman gurgled, slowly choking on her own blood. It was obvious that this woman was human by the wounds that weren't healing, for wolves they would heal but for humans they were fatal.

"Who? H-help wh-who?" Mabel says, feeling a sense of deja vu. She hated how she was always the one that never knew the answers, but was always given the questions.

"M-my babies, my bab-babies, they've got my babies." The woman cried out. Mabel could have choked on air. This woman looked no older than 17 and here she was saying she has kids.

"Okay, okay I'll help them, what are their names?" Mabel asks, not noticing that she hadn't stuttered. It was obvious that the mother was not gonna survive.

"Eddie and A-Atreus, pl-please help my babies." The mother cried, clutching Mabel close.

"I will, don't worry. What's your name?" Mabel asks. She will have a funeral for her. She will give her a beautiful ending.

"Callista White." She says as Mabel lays her on her back so her head falls into Mabels lap.

"It's okay now Callista, I have you, okay? You can sleep now. I will find your boys, I'll make sure their happy and healthy and lead long and amazing lives." Mabel says, brushing her hands through the womans strawberry blonde hair with more comfort than she knew she had.

The girls eyes held Mabels as she whispered.

"Thank you."

Mabel simply smiled and whispered words of encouragement and tales of a happy life.

A final tear escaped the woman's sad grey eyes before they glazed over, forever staring into nothingness.

Mabel leaned down and kissed her head, before slowly standing and walking out of the cell.

She was calm for some reason. Like she didn't just witness a death of a young mother, of someones child and someones soulmate.

She didn't notice herself slip into the white room again until she was there, with Nicholas by her side.

"Nicholas?" She called, confused.

Nicholas merely nodded his head, before taking a step closer to her.

"Why are we back here?" She asked. She can't be here, she's got to get Callistas sons.

"You needed me." He answered before turning to a big screen in front of them. Mabel could have sworn it wasn't there a second ago.

On the big screen seemed to be a window through Mabels eyes, they could see everything she was seeing right now.

"What's happening?" Mabel whispers, examining the screen with incredible detail.

"You have accessed a little bit of your potential, your instincts have come out and your need to protect has surfaced." Nicholas recites as if he had heard the words millions of times before.

"Where are we going?" Mabel asks, she seems to be floating in mid air while moving forward. She just wanted to find Eddie and Atreus.

"What were you doing before you came here?" Nicholas asked, somewhat curious.

"The two boys, I was trying to find them. They're only babies, children." Mabel said trying to imagine the two kids.

Nicholas seemed to have slightly scowled but when Mabel looked at him a second time, his face was void of emotion.

"Okay. I need you to close your eyes and envision a tie between you and the pups." He says, guiding Mabel as she closed her eyes.

The only thing that popped into her mind was Callista, so she held her face in her mind, burning the memory into her brain.

Mabels body moves fast, floating through the air with golden eyes, scanning everywhere for the children.

"Stop." Nicholas says, hearing small cries enter his ears.

Mabel opens her eyes, Callista falling away into the darkest depths of her mind.

Mabels body levitates towards the cries automatically and pushes another door open again. Only this wasn't a cell door- but a door that led her out of "the dark."

Mabel winced as the light of the moon invades her senses, as barks of dominance break her hearing.

She comes back to earth when she hears a small yelp.

She rushes towards the spot, at the edge of the building, and gasps.

There she finds two boys and a girl tied together with their heads down and hands up while a grey wolf stood in front of them, growling as he readied to pounce.

Instantly Mabel felt her motherly instinct that she always knew she had rise, her now golden eyes burning brightly as she rose higher in the air.

The kids spot her and quieten down just by the comfort that her presence brought.

The wolf went back on its back legs and just as it went for the kill, Mabel lifted her hand and the wolfs neck snapped. That was it. One second and she became a killer.

But Mabel realised she didn't care. She realised she would become a killer for children, for the innocent, any day.

The pups cried out and huddled together.

"H-how did I do that." Mabel asked, looking at Nicholas with a bewildered expression.

"You will learn soon." Nicholas says, kissing Mabels forehead.

"I'll miss you, Nico." Mabel says, feeling herself fade away.

"I'll miss you too Ma." Nicholas muttered, so low that Mabel hadn't realised he said anything in her drowsy state.

And then her eyes opened and she saw everything that she saw on the screen in the white room.

She closed her eyes and fluttered them a couple of times before blinking normally.

She quickly regained her composure and hiked up her dirty, now stained with blood, white nightgown and jogged towards the children.

The one girl was wearing what Mabel was wearing, an identical nightgown but in light grey, splashes of mud plastered to it.

The boys both wore a shirt and shorts, one wore red while the other wore yellow. That was the normal boy clothes that were given in "the dark".

She quickly untied the children and watched as they all curled into each other and cried.

"E-Eddie? Uh A-Atreus?" Mabel said, looking between the two boys.

One of them had strawberry blonde hair, just like his mother, and big brown eyes.

The other had curly dark blonde hair with grey eyes, he seemed to be the older one. Mabel couldn't look him in the eyes no matter how hard she tried to force herself. Everytime she looked into his eyes, she saw the sad eyes of his mother looking back at her.

"Ye-yes." The boy with big brown eyes said, stumbling forward with his slightly chubby toddler legs. His brother grabbed his arm and pulled him back.

"How o-old are ye?" Mabel asked, looking between them while feeling her heart clench at the thought that they weren't ever gonna see their mother again.

"I'm 5. He's 3." The blonde one answered.

Mabel nodded along, that means she was only a kid having them., she thought, thinking about Callista.

"O-okay. Wh-which one is E-Eddie and which is A-Atreus?" She asked even though she was sure she already had an idea which was which.

"Eddie" The brown eyes kid says, making Mabel want to hug him.

"I'm Atreus." The other boy says, his eyes holding an ever lasting look that tears were being held in.

Mabel felt tears run down her cheeks as she brought them into a hug.

She knows their probably afraid of her beat up face of confused as to where their mom is, but she couldn't help but want to hold them, comfort and console them- even before they knew their mom was never coming back.

After a long hug with their heads buried into the right and left side of her neck, she lifted her head to look at the girl that stood alone, watching them with eyes of longing.

She seemed to be the smallest of them all, with tan skin and black curly hair. But it wasn't that, that struck her. It was the fact that one of her eyes were a dark brown while the other was a light brown. Mabel couldn't help but think that the child was wise beyond her years, as she stood with her hands behind her back to keep from latching onto Mabels comforting aroma.

"And who m-might y-you be?" Mabel asked, smiling kindly at the young girl.

"My names Blake" the girl says, her voice that of a sad child. Mabel could tell the girl was desperate for a hug so she spread her arms wider, and waited as Blake approached before wrapping her arms around Mabels waist and burying her head in her collarbone.

"Ni-nice to m-meet you pu-pups, my na-name is Mabel." She says, squeezing them and introducing herself.

"Where is mum?", Eddie asked, his voice muffled against Mabels hair.

Mabel let out a small whine at the unexpected sudden question.

"Your m-mum asked me t-t-to mind y-you guys, whi-while she w-went away." Mabel says.

The children will not know of the fear that death brings.

"Where?" Blake asked, it was obvious that she was not related to Callista nor the boys, and she couldn't help but notice the small glances that Eddie and her made to each other, the glances that Mabel and Adonis used to steal.

If the goddess had placed her here then she belonged with them.

"Paradeisos." Mabel responded, using the Greek term that Soter used to speak so highly of.

Soter loved everything Greek while Adonis loved everything Latin, a difference she only just noticed now.

"Why she leave us here?" Atreus asked, Mabel could feel the tears of the small boy on her neck and couldn't help but clutch him closer.

"Beca-because she kne-knew I'd protect ye." Mabel answered, which was partially true. That and she had no choice.

All three sets of arms tighten around her at her words, making her feel safe amid the chaos.

Mabels wolf screamed into her head sending shocks through her skull.

Mabel asked, half worried.

Ray says.

Mabel asks, quickly letting go of the kids and making them hold hands and hiding them behind a large bush, before standing guard in front of it, waiting for her irritated mate to come to her.

Ray says as if that physically hurt her.

Mabel half thought half said in her mind.

Just then the door she had used to get out burst open and she heard Blake let out a small squeak before being stifled by a hand, most likely Atreus.

Adonis didn't just look absolutely crazy nut psycho angry, he looked scared and annoyed and worried.

His hair was pulled in multiple different ways and his boxers were thrown on, a sign he had shifted again.

His arms and torso and partially his neck was covered in blood, who's blood? Mabel did not know.

"Must you try and escape me the moment after we meet again after three years?" Adonis huffed, trying not to flip out on her.
