《Whatever》Chapter 40

Glaring at the male in front of me, I snarled, "You've got a lot of nerve showing your face around here!" His face held guilt and just as he opened his mouth, "Might we come in first?" I looked to his left and saw a female standing there with her short brown hair having grey streaks in them but her face had a smile. "What's up J-" Carter stopped talking then and he shoved me behind him as he growled, "We already gave you leniency. What more do you want?"
"Please, he only wants to apologize and make amends." the female pleaded. I growled out, "And why do you care? Do you have any idea what he did to me?" With a sad smile, she sighed, "I'm afraid I don't. But I do however, know what it feels like to be rejected by your mate." My cheeks burned at her statement when I felt a hand cover mine. "What do you know about getting rejected?" I snarled out. She let out a sigh, "Maybe I should introduce myself first. I'm Susan."
My back went rigid.
"I guess you know my tale then. Anyway, I'm really sorry for what my mate-" I cut her off just as I pushed past Carter's arm. "This bastard is your mate? Do you have any idea what he put me through?" I yelled out. Both of them took a step back and then, "Jesse, I know-" she started but I cut her off, "You know absolutely nothing about what I went through with this lowlife! I got kidnapped, I was jailed, I was kept like a caged animal!" I growled out and I whispered darkly as I stepped back inside the cabin, "Don't ever try and come near me again. Or you'll be sorry." Slamming the door shut, I stomped away from the door and went to my bedroom.

"Jess, you all right?" Carter asked from outside the door after I stayed in my room for knows how long while staring angrily at the wall. Letting out a sigh, I slipped off the bed and I went to unlock the door and peer outside where Carter stood with a cup of chamomile tea and a smile. "Hey, can I come in?" Pursing my lips, I reluctantly nodded before stepping aside to let him in. Switching on the fairy lights, I went and took a seat on the floor as Carter made himself comfortable next to me. "You okay love?" he asked as he handed me my cup of tea. Heaving a sigh, I could only blow at my tea and take a sip. "Jesse?"
"I honestly, don't know Carter." I breathed out. Carter rubbed my arm reassuringly before softly speaking, "It's all right if you don't know love. Just know that I'm here if you need a shoulder to cry on. And I mean that literally." Laughing, I set down the cup I was holding on the floor next to me before saying, "Very funny Carter." I had just went to stand up when Carter pulled my hand till I almost fell on to his lap. Wincing at the impact, I was about to make a remark when I raised my head and was staring right at Carter's eyes. "I wasn't joking Jesse." I mumbled softy as a hand went to cup my cheek. Embarassed, I stammered out, "Y- yeah." Attempting to pull away from him, my hand seemed to have, brushed against something that was now apparently, bulging.
Hearing a sharp intake of breath, I quickly pulled away from Carter but his hand pushed my from my back and my lips connected with his. My eyes widened and I was about to pull away when Carter wrapped his arm around my waist and deepened the kiss. Slowly, my eyes fluttered shut and my arms made their way around his neck and pulled him closer as he moved his lips against mine. Brushing gently against mine, he tightened his grip around me making me yelp at the interaction causing him to chuckle against my lips. Despairingly, Carter pulled away and leaned his forehead against mine with my eyes casted down. "You know I'm always here for you. I won't leave you Jess. Not ever."

I could only stay silent.
The next few days, I finally decided to head back home. Reassuring that I would be fine, I told Carter that I'd text him as soon as I arrived. I was about to do that had I just stepped outside my door when my body was rammed in to and arms wrapped themselves tightly around me. "Don't ever do that to me again Jesse! I swear if anything had happen to you," Kya rambled on whilst I could only chuckle at her reaction before saying, "It's good to see you too K." As she pulled away, the first thing she did was punch me hard in my stomach. "Never do that again! Who else is going to be my maid of honour if you're not there?" Trying not to cry, I wheezed out, "Maid of honour?" Suddenly Kya became all shy and stammered, "Well, i-it's not o-official y-yet."
"He proposed?" I shouted out in exclamation as I stared at Kya; the pain from her punch suddenly the least of my worries. Rolling her eyes, she said, "Not officially. He was only asking about us getting married. He didn't ask for my hand in my marriage you dumbass." I let out a sigh of relief as I layed a hand on my chest, "Thank the Moon Goddess." She narrowed her eyes at me suspiciously before saying, "Why?" Replying with relief, I breathed, "I thought you got pregnant and that was why he wanted both of you to get married."
I fell on my backside as Kya pushed me down on the ground before huffing out, "You imagine too much Jess." I laughed as I raised my hand in surrender, "Hey, I don't mind you having a child." Kya then replied with the corners of her lips raising, "Good. Cause I plan to give a name to my child that's similar to yours."
I snorted out as I took out Kya's outstretched hand before dusting myself off and shouldering my duffel bag, "What're you going to name him? Jamie?"

Aito Walker was a self-proclaimed martial artist, a criminal, a broken man, and a fishing slave who later became a woodcutter before dying due to his heavy consumption of alcohol. With thousands of other humans, he is forcefully revived into a boundless grey space by the gods of a foreign world, Iris, to take part in a never-ending war waged against Fearmongers. A race capable of corrupting living beings and inducing fear, even the bravest of warriors cannot resist—when the Fearmongers do not kill them, that is.To bait humans into this conflict, the gods offer the mortals powers in exchange of eternal servitude and the completion of trials before finally entering Iris.Even though Aito doesn’t agree with it, he sees in Iris a chance to atone for his past misdeeds, in this fantasy world of swords and magic filled with many races, where everything seems possible. He will pave his own path despite the gods he despises trying to manipulate him into doing their bidding.Aito will start with almost nothing but his wit, a peculiar system, and increased strength—much like other revived humans.Bearing a sin—he could not, cannot, and will not forget—haunting him to this day, Aito will strive to regain what little honor he has left.He will suffer and, at times, fail. Taking advantage of his weaknesses, the Fearmongers, demigods, gods, and many others will hinder his path. But a powerful yearning will keep him from falling apart. An ever-burning flame melting away the despair and welding back the broken pieces of courage.A single desire.«I will find redemption no matter the cost.»………Or not, hun, who knows? The book isn’t done yet. Haha—SLAP!«Who put this guy in the synopsis narration?! Get him out of here and launch the warnings! Now!»***WARNINGS:— The MC is human. If you’re looking for a perfect MC, you’ll only be wasting your time here. However, if you’re looking for an MC who will LEARN, GROW because of his flaws. An MC who will try his hardest to overcome adversity, then you’re in the right place.— No harems. However, it doesn’t mean the characters can’t fool around without having love interests. A relationship isn’t necessary for people to satisfy their physical desires.— You will find a few typos, grammatical and wording issues, that’s certain. I’ll do my best to bring you guys quality content and such issues will either be nonexistent or extremely few. However, one man can only do so much. If I get enough support, I’ll hire an EDITOR that will look at the chaps with a fresh eye. And POOF! Issues no more. Improved quality. Happier author and reader. Not sure if the editor will be happy tho.— The first three chapters are fast-paced as to quickly get into the nitty-gritty but slow down afterward to give the story the time it needs to progress accordingly.— The book can, never mind, it will contain «strong» language, gore and violence.— Comedy, as you know it (and if you don’t, now you know) is subjective. So you might not like the jokes.— If you truly read that until the end you have my virtual congratulations ‘cause I sure as hell wouldn’t have done that.

It's the beginning of a series I know I'm going to enjoy, with great writing and hints of deep in-game lore.
