《Whatever》Chapter 31

"There's someone watching us." Carter whispered against my ear. I froze and Carter instinctively wrapped his arms tightly around me more as I asked quietly, "Who?" Carter simply kissed my temple as he settled against the couch comfortably with me still in his embrace and leaning on his chest. "Just pretend to sleep Jess." Carter adviced me. Gulping, I pretended that my eyelids were getting heavy and finally closed them shut whilst snuggling deeper in to Carters' chest. After a few more minutes, I mind-linked him and asked, "Are they gone?" Carter replied, "Keep sleeping. I'm going to close all the curtains."
He gently lifted me off from his lap and placed me beside him and left a kiss on my forehead before pulling away to draw the curtains shut. As soon as I heard everything was shut, my eyes shot open and I stared at Carter with confusion on my face. He placed a finger on his lips as a sign for me to keep silent and then tapped his nose with his other index finger. I took a deep breath in and wondered why I didn't smell it just as Carter did.
Rogues.
There was more than one, that's for sure and my hands clenched in to fist on my lap when I realized I let my guard down. Slowly, their scents started to become faint until it disappeared but still, it lingered slightly in the air. "We need to leave." Carter said while staring at me with concern. "As much as I'd like to," I began then continued, "I'm still in heat. If I go back to my pac-" Carter cut me off then by asking incredulously, "What makes you think you're going back to your pack?"
Narrowing my eyes at him, I said while getting up from the couch, "Well I see no other place for me to go." Carter replied without missing a beat as he stared at me with his face steady, "You're coming back with me to my pack." My eyebrows rose up in alarm as I heard what he just said. I scoffed out, "No, I'm not." Carter replied while taking a step closer to me, "Yes, you are." I scowled at him as I snarled out, "No, I won't. If I went there, with this," I gestured to his mark on my neck, "People would get the wrong impression." Carter raised his left eyebrow as he said while looking at me with confusion, "My mark on your neck means you're my mate and Luna of the pack." I growled out, "I'm not your mate! You rejected me for fucks' sake Carter! I shouldn't even be wearing your mark!"

Suddenly, I was pushed against the wall with a furious Carter glaring at me as he growled out with his eyes turning black as an abyss, "Say that again, and I won't be responsible for what happens next." Laughing harshly, I said with a scowl on my face, "You already rejected me and marked me by force." I poked his chest as I glared at him while saying with venom, "You, have already taken the all the precious things a mate earns from when they found each other without even caring about how I would feel. So either you back off and leave me alone, or I will disappear from you for good." With that said, I pushed him off of me and stormed towards my room before slamming the door shut.
I can't believe he actually thought I would go back with him! Not in this lifetime. If he wants to make this work, forcing me against my will is going to make me wish I left for good.
I stayed cooped up in my room for hours, not bothering to even answer to Carters' pleas of opening the door and letting him in to comfort me. He apologized again and again but I only layed on my bed while thinking what did I do to deserve this. After a while, I finally decided to get out of my room because my skin started to crawl which meant I needed another cold shower. Slowly, I opened the door and looked both ways to see if Carter was anywhere in sight. I quickly grabbed new clothes to wear and made a dash to the toilet successfully.
Well, that lasted about 10 seconds.
I had just let out a sigh of relief and locked the toilet door shut when I heard someone clearing their throat. My back froze up just as my cheeks reddened when I realized who was in the shower. "Er, Jess?" He said which made me imagine his right eyebrow was raised in confusion as to why I was in the bathroom with him naked. I gritted my teeth as I fumbled with the lock, desparately trying to get out before my wolf took over. I had managed to unlock the door and was about to make a run for it when I felt arms wrap around my waist. I said in a desperate whisper, "Carter, let go. Please!" He only tightened his arms causing my back to press against his chest which made my shirt get soaked because he was still wet from the shower. I begged this time while struggling to escape his grip, "Carter! Please!"

"Jess, let me hold you. Just let me bond with my mate and let our wolves bond with each other." He whispered against my ear; his hot breath causing me to shiver involuntarily. Hearing him say that, I forgot that with me staying away from Carter, my wolf would be in pure agony without having her mate. I forgot that it wasn't just me facing Carter.
Our wolves needed their mates like they were each others life supports and if they didn't have each other who knows what could happen. This rejection, of course, is the icing on the cake because my wolf had been completely silent for so long, the last time I came in contact with her was my birthday. I couldn't find the bond but if I just fell in to his arms, it would feel like I was desperate for him. Carter hurt me when I needed him most and I just can't allow him to think that its okay for him to get away with it. Feeling my walls breaking down, I let out a whisper, "I can't Carter. Not after what you did and my wolf is just as upset with you as I am though she loves you already."
With that said, I got out of his grip and made my way to the upstairs bathroom, closing the door shut behind me.

Only Villains Do That
While waiting on an Akihabara train platform one day, ordinary high schooler Yoshi Shinonome was suddenly plucked from his normal life in Japan and whisked away by a beautiful goddess to Ephemera, a world of magic and adventure, to serve as her Hero and drive back the evil Dark Lord. This is not his story. Standing nearby at the moment Yoshi was isekai'd was a man named Seiji - a rude, cranky, misanthropic musician who was not at all pleased to find himself also snatched up and transported to Ephemera by the goddess's wicked sister, Virya. According to this self-proclaimed Goddess of Evil, the whole fantasy adventure thing was a game she and her sister played to stave off the boredom of immortality, and since the good goddess, Sanora, had picked her Hero...well, Virya needed a Dark Lord. A grown man with his own career and ambitions, Seiji has no interest in playing. Unfortunately for him, the call to adventure was not a request. Now, he must conquer Ephemera and defeat the Hero...or Virya promises to make him beg for the release of death before granting it. Playing along for his own survival, Seiji nonetheless is under no illusions who his true enemy is, and it's not the naive young would-be Hero from his own world. Placed in an impossible position, Seiji must make enough progress toward world domination to keep his sadistic patron goddess off his back, but not so much that he can't strike an accord with the forces of Good and convince the Hero Yoshi that it's the goddesses who are their mutual enemy. Forced to embrace Evil without being too evil, Seiji walks the razor's edge, building his forces and biding his time till he can get revenge on the goddesses and be free of them, his only certainty that he will not be getting out of this with his hands clean. A Dark Lord's gotta do what a Dark Lord's gotta do. Updates Tuesday and Friday. Most Patreon tiers get to read one chapter in advance of the public release!
