《Flatmates》8

'Netflix?' I ask, poking my head around Alex's door. It was midday, and I knew he was awake as I had seen him posting on instagram.

'Sounds ideal' he yawned, throwing his duvet back and beginning to pull himself up.

George had gone out for the day, so it was just me and Alex in the flat. I felt like we had barely got to spend any time together with all of the business planning, so now that I had a week of waiting I decided to use it wisely.

Halfway through the film we were watching, I glanced up and looked Alex. Like really looked at him. Has he always been so attractive? I must have been distracted by work to not notice that chiselled jaw line. Alex looked up and caught me staring, so I quickly turned back to the TV pretending not to notice.

I catch Jess staring at me and she quickly turns away, acting like it never happened. I honestly don't think I have ever met a girl as gorgeous as Jess. It is just a shame she would never be interested in someone like me. What do I have going for me? I make shitty videos bullying people. Not like Will, I could never compete with him. I couldn't just hand over £10,000 like it was nothing. Well I could, but it would deplete my entire savings.

Maybe I should ask her out for dinner or something? No, what's the point. I may as well save my embarrassment and the disappointment that is sure to come when she says no. I spoke to George about it a few nights ago and he told me to go for it, said he was sure she was interested. How could he get that so wrong? I though he was good at reading people.

I guess I am destined to be forever alone.

When the film finishes, I turn myself to face Alex. I want to know more about him, he keeps himself to himself. But I don't want to upset him by pushing him too far.

'Fancy getting lunch or something?' I ask, realising it was gone two and we hadn't eaten.

'Uhhh.. can do? What do you want?'

'I don't mind, you choose.'

'Takeaway or go out?'

'Takeaway. Then I don't have to get dressed' I laugh, pointing down at my pyjamas to reiterate my point.

We devour our Nando's whilst getting stuck into another film, eating till we can barely breathe. I feel my eyelids begin to droop, fighting to keep my eyes open. A true food coma taking over.

When I open my eyes again, I find that the film is turned off and I am no longer sat up, but horizontal. Alex is laid on the sofa on his back, me tucked down the side of him against the back on the sofa. My head is on his shoulder, his arm wrapped around me. I don't think Alex notices me wake up, as he is just scrolling through twitter on his phone.

'Sorry' I mumble, making no effort to move. Alex locks his phone, putting it on the floor and turning his face towards mine.

'Its okay, I didn't want to wake you' Alex mumbles, his cheeks turning pink. 'I woke up about twenty minutes ago, I don't really know how we got into this position, but I didn't want to move whilst you were sleeping. I know you haven't been sleeping much' he adds.

We lay in silence for a few minutes, just staring into each others eyes. Alex's finger rubbing gentle circles absentmindedly on my ribs, me hand just resting on his chest. The tension is killing me, you could cut it with a knife. I keep finding my gaze moving down to his lips, having to pull my gaze back up. Trying to push thoughts out of my mind.

It wouldn't be a good idea. I need to move.
