Christmas Oneshot- Ryo and Suki
You found yourself smiling. You felt warm inside, from both the hot coco, and the sense of comradery that came with a Christmas celebration. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves—at least a little bit. Even Ryo was happy—well. He wasn't frowning. That was a small improvement. You giggled as you sipped your coco, and Quince came to sit by you.
"Have you enjoyed today, (y/n)?" He smiled.
"I have! It's been so much fun. Thanks for letting us do this," you spoke genuinely.
"Of course! If I had said no, that would make me an asshole," tilted his head.
"Yeah, you're right," you replied mercilessly. Almost everyone in the room was taking turns staring at you. Despite the differences they had, everyone could agree that you had been exceptionally cute today. You had been blushing and laughing without restraint all morning. It was a good look on you. Deciding you needed a new drink, you stood from your seat, "I'm going to the kitchen, would anyone like me to grab them anything?" you offered.
"If you can, I'd love a cup of coffee," Jason asked as he looked up from his book. You nodded and glanced around the room to see if anyone else wanted anything. Seeing that no one did, you turned and made your way forward. With a spring in your step, you quickly made it to the kitchen.
What you didn't notice was Ryo following you close behind until he spoke to you. "You've been cheery today," was all he said.
You whirled around in surprise, "Ryo!" you exclaimed. "Geez, you don't gotta scare me like that!" He smiled softly at your frustration. The expression was... oddly tender on him. You huffed and began to prepare a fresh pot of coffee.
"It's too easy to scare you for me to stop," he teased.
"Well, it's not very nice," you frowned.
"Well, I'm not very nice, princess," Ryo leaned on the counter. You rolled your eyes at this.
"Yeah, whatever. What'd you follow me for, anyway? You want some coffee?"
"That's not it," he said without answering anything. Ryo seemed to really enjoy tormenting you! And on Christmas no less.
"Well, what is it then?" you retorted.
"Why should I tell you?" He shot back. You decided to give up as you waited for the coffee to be done. The day had been really nice so far, you weren't going to ruin it by arguing with some asshole.
"Have you had a good day, at least?" you asked as you opted to sit on the counter.
"The best Christmas I've ever had," Ryo's reply was surprisingly honest. For the millionth time that day, you smiled warmly. Even if he was a bit of a dick, you were glad that he was happy.
"I'm glad. What's been your favorite part?"
"Watching..." was all he said before stopping himself.
"Watching...? What?" you raised an eyebrow at him. He said nothing for a few moments and seemed to be thinking about his answer. While you waited, you looked in the cabinets near you for the best mugs.
"Just watching people interact. We aren't always around each other. Or at least we weren't until your group came along," Ryo eventually replied. You got down from the counter and put some sugar in both mugs before pouring the bitter coffee in.
"Really? What changed?" You asked with genuine curiosity.
"You're curious today," he scoffed. "I think we were all just excited to see new people. One of them being easy to tease is a bonus."

"Not a bonus to me!! Dickhead!" you snapped as you carried the two mugs of coffee back to the living room. This time, he walked beside you. He was still being a dick, but something about the conversation you just had with him was... nice for a change. Maybe Christmas had softened his heart. You almost laughed at the thought.
Jason thanked you for the cup and you sat back down. Most everyone was messing with the gifts they got—and most of that was reading. Suki seemed to be really interested in that art history book Ryo got her... that's weird. You decided you were going to bother her. "Suki! Let's do something fun!" you smiled as you dashed toward her and plopped yourself next to her on the couch. She immediately dropped her book and matched your enthusiasm.
"Hell yeah! Funky Christmas tunes are on let's jam!" She jumped up and took you with her. She couldn't really dance, but her attempt was endearing. You tried not to be embarrassed as you wiggled with her. You were both laughing so much you eventually had to stop and sit on the floor to catch your breath. Suki was fun and energetic, probably more so than anyone else in the house. You really liked that about her. She leaned completely on you and rested her head on your lap.
"Are you happy with Christmas?" you asked softly as you looked into her eyes. They were sparkling brown like coffee filled with warmth.
"I'm very happy," she smiled with flushed cheeks and a smile. "I'm happy I'm with you." She adjusted herself and leaned into you. You leaned back on the carpet and closed your eyes. Midday cuddle-session-nap in the middle of the floor seemed like a fine idea.
Or at least it did until someone hooked their hands under your arms and dragged you away from Suki's warm embrace. "Hey!" you both shouted in unison as your eyes snapped open. That was comfortable, dammit. The first thing you saw when you opened your eyes was an... angry Ryo.
"Ryo! What's your damage?!" Suki hissed as she sat up and pouted angrily.
"You guys are being obnoxious," Was all he said as he dropped your shoulders and stared at her.
"Yeah, well it's Christmas, fuck you!"
"Ryo, if you wanted to nap all you had to do was ask," you teased as you looked up at him. You didn't think that's what he was really getting at, you just wanted to see him flustered for once. Turn the tables and make him uncomfortable. He looked down at you and shrugged.
"Alright then," was all he said before he situated himself on the ground with his head on your stomach.
"Huh?" you didn't see this coming.
"Ryo!" Suki scooted over and shoved him lightly. "That was my spot!" She quickly gave up and settled with leaning on your arm. You giggled. This was ridiculous, but it was nice. You closed your eyes again. You heard... one pair of footsteps leave the room and one pair come closer to you. You opened one eye to see Quince with a pillow. He smiled and gently lifted your head, so he could place the pillow under it. You grinned at the gesture.
"Thanks, Quince."
"Any time, (y/n). Stay safe," he walked away. Stay safe? Oh yeah, cuz a little nap is dangerous, you rolled your eyes before closing them and drifting off into a restful sleep.

It was definitely weird to wake up sandwiched between two of the most dissimilar people in the house, but you weren't complaining. They were warm. You kept dozing off peacefully until you felt Ryo shift and leave. Suki woke soon after and sat up. You still wanted to sleep, so you rolled over childishly, and she giggled. "Wakey wakey, (y/n)," she brushed some of the hair out of your face.
"Whyyy?"
"Cuz you've been asleep too long! We gotta go bother people or something. Come on, get up!" At your persistent refusal, she began tickling you. You tried to hold back your laughs, but it didn't take long for you to succumb to laughter.
"S-s-stoop, Suki!" you spoke between laughs and panting. "Quit! I ha- haha HATE being tickled!!" You pushed her away as much as you could. The sound of your loud laughing and yelling made Ryo return to the room and stare at the two of you. When Suki noticed him, she stopped, and everything was still. After a few very awkward moments of silence, he turned around and left.
Time to get up, you decided while dusting yourself off. You offered a hand to Suki which she readily accepted. You stood in the doorway of the room for a moment and looked at the scene... Christmas was beautiful. The presents were all gone, so the tree looked a little empty, but it was still bright and beautiful and happy. Suki stood before you and you both looked silently at each other. She was smiling, her face was flushed, and her eyes were sparkling; she was picturesque.
"You look beautiful," you admitted to her. Her eyebrows raised in surprise and she didn't reply for a minute. You got nervous—you didn't mean anything by it! It was just a compliment, but then she leaned into you and wrapped her arms around your waist.
"Thank you," she whispered before pressing a kiss to your lips. A heat bloomed onto your cheeks that spread like fire through your whole body. It was soft like cotton candy, but you didn't know what to do. Aw shit, have I led her on? You thought worriedly as she pulled away. She laughed at your face, "Don't get so worked up, silly." She pointed up and you looked—oh. Mistletoe. You laughed nervously at the realization, but that felt too emotional for a casual mistletoe kiss...
You decided to not dwell on it as you walked to the kitchen with her. You both talked about Christmas and what it was like for each of you while you were alive. Turns out that her parents were divorced, and she got two Christmas's—a small bonus that comes with a broken family. It was kind of sad, but she was laughing the whole time. I'll have to see if she's ok later, you make a mental note.
The two of you arrive in the kitchen to find that only Ryo was in there. "Where's everyone else?" you ask.
"Why are you worried about them?" he shot back. "I'm right here." You rolled your eyes. Jealous much?
You poured yourself a glass of water, "Whatever, I guess. So, Christmas is over now, huh?" you posed the question to the other two. It was an observation—but you were also curious to know if the other two had any other plans for the day.
"No one has made out under the mistletoe, no one has started a fight, and no one has tipped over the Christmas tree in rage, so Christmas hasn't happened like it usually does for me," Ryo said in perhaps more words than you had ever heard from him before
"At least one of those things has happened," Suki argued vaguely. "But Christmas doesn't have to be over yet, we could still hang out like, as a family unit." You nodded.
"Wait—which of those things happened?" Ryo asked.
"Not telling!" Suki replied, and your face flushed. You appreciated her secrecy. Ryo took a step closer to you.
"I think I would've heard a fight," although he was arguing with Suki, he was glaring at you. You took a step back and nervously scratched at your neck. Why is Ryo so weird? "...Please tell me it's not true." His tone surprised you—he sounded disappointed.
"And what if it is!" Suki wrapped an arm around your shoulders and smiled smugly.
"Guys, quit being so dumb it's just a mistletoe kiss," you tried to diffuse them.
"No, it's not fair," Ryo put a hand around your upper arm. The grip wasn't tight—it was more like a silent request that you don't move away from him. "You can't just kiss one of us."
"How does that make any sense!" you spoke loudly. "You can kiss anyone in the house—why don't you kiss her if you're so jealous?" Suki shifted uncomfortably at the suggestion and Ryo's eyes narrowed. He leaned a bit too close, and Suki pulled you away from him.
"She's hanging out with me, Ryo. Piss off!" Suki stuck her tongue out. However, Ryo hadn't let go of your arm and now his grip was tighter. You winced, and before you could process anything, Ryo's lips were on yours. While Suki was soft, he was intense. It was a weird struggle of Suki trying to pull you away without hurting you, and Ryo holding you tight—not really caring if it hurt or not. Your lips were soft to him, and it only made him want more.
When he was satisfied, he leaned back and looked at your blushing face. Christmas is fun but brings out a lot of weirdness in people, you decided as your heart beat heavily. His trademark lazy grin sat on his face. He looked smug. "Christmas can be over now since we're even."
You huffed and took a step back, "That doesn't even make sense—I didn't owe you anything!" You frowned and crossed your arms. You weren't really that mad, just frustrated that he wasn't making any sense. You looked to Suki—she looked numb. Her eyes were wide, and her mouth gaped, she was frozen in a state of shock. If things weren't so weird right now, you might've laughed at her face. Ryo left the room. You nudged Suki a few times, "Hey are you alright?"
"I should be asking you that," she said finally with a shake of her head. Her demeanor suddenly changed as she spoke much louder, "That rat bastard! I'll kick his ass for that!" She began stomping toward the exit of the kitchen, but you stopped her.
"Suki come on. It's just... Christmas antics," you defended. You didn't want any violence, especially not on a holiday. She stopped at your request. You could shake away all your discomfort for the sake of Christmas. It was a Holiday and holidays meant laughing and kissing and fun! Right? You leaned your head on Suki's shoulder and closed your eyes. You were relaxed.
"Merry Christmas, (y/n)."

Ghostified City
‘Ghostified City’ is a post-dystopian sci-fi tale, set in a fading world that might be a future version of ours, running out on autopilot into oblivion. Adaman Yimmand is a simple robofactory operator in The City who's working with robots and machines every day. He doesn’t even realise that he might not have met another actual human being in years. Everything begins when he breaks his routine for once and enters a bar where he meets Evelith. This pesky other person does not let him go after he has had his -rather terrible- beer, because according to her actual humans are much rarer than he’s aware of. And from then on ‘the genie is out of the bottle and won’t get back in’, to use her words: Adaman meets more people, and gradually he has no choice but to accept that the reality of The City is not what he always thought it was, and to face the darkness of a fading humanity on the brink of self-inflicted extinction. Is there any hope left for him, and for his species? I have selected 'sexual content' and 'traumatising content' to be on the safe side, because there is a stripclub-like venue in the background of the story, and an almost-extinct humanity that has institutionalised suicide which might be disturbing to some. Apart from that it's not really a heavy 'adult' story.('Ghostified City' is my first long story in English as opposed to my native language Dutch, and an earlier version was published on my fiction blog 'Oranderra' until I stopped updating. This is a slightly altered version of the first series.)

A lost horse and a chance meeting with the Catherine the Great set him off on a journey that will take him from the steppes of the Crimea to the beaches of the Gold Coast of Africa and back again. There he will face British slavers, pirates, and the ghosts of his past to become the bane of his enemies as the Czarina's Buccaneer. ----- DISCLAIMER: This novel acknowledges the fact that the Cossacks, and the Ukrainian people by extension, are unique and not simply a "different variety of Russians." The main character views the Russians as "moskal foreigners" and does not see himself as one. This also acknowledges the fact that the czarina deprived many of the Cossacks of their freedom, something that the main character resents.
