《What happens in Vegas》1| Expectations

I sat there, squinting under the sun while our valedictorian said their speech.

"How long is this gonna go on?" Ava asked.

"It's our graduation, Ava, come on," Charlotte clicked her tongue.

"I don't want to graduate under the scorching sun and be sweating when I go up there, Charlotte," Ava sassed.

"Can both of you please shut up? Like seriously, please?" I said, looking between the two of them.

"She started it," Ava pouted.

"I did not!"

"I just asked how long this is gonna go on for and you-"

"Shut up. If you're feeling hot just- I don't know, shove ice down your dress," I rolled my eyes.

"Get me some ice then," Ava mumbled.

"Okay seriously, as hot as it is, Charlotte's right. It's our graduation, we're never coming back here again," I sighed.

"Good. This place can go to shit," Ava said, folding her arms across her chest.

"Say bye to Mr. Hollis, Ava," Charlotte teased. Mr. Hollis is our youngest, hottest, most beautiful teacher. Ava had a huge crush on him in junior year and Charlotte still holds it over her.

"Have both of you booked your tickets?" Ava asked.

"Yeah," we replied in sync.

"Ladies, shh!" We all looked up at Mrs. Hawkins who walked up and down the aisle.

"We're leaving, Mrs. Hawkins, you're not our teacher anymore so with all due respect, move along," Ava sang. Mrs. Hawkings rolled her eyes and kept walking. "And you all booked your rooms?"

"Yes, Ava," we said again.

"Great, then let's get over this graduation and get the fuck out of here at midnight," Ava sighed.

No, we're not running away together, it's our post-graduation trip that we planned. Even though we're all coming back here for college. Back here in San Diego.

I stood there, sipping my lemonade, yes our school served us lemonade. "Bella, get over here!" my mom ushered. I rolled my eyes and downed the lemonade before tossing the plastic cup. My mom pushed me in between her and my dad, handing her phone to Charlotte.

"Say cheese," she laughed.

"For God's sake," I mumbled but smiled nonetheless.

"You're growing up and leaving, okay? Just shut up," my dad said through his smile.

"I'm leaving for two weeks on a holiday, dad. Not leaving the country but I love you too," I grinned, turning to him. They took another picture after that, both of them kissing my cheeks at the same time.

This is the most cliche graduation ever yet it has no glamour like the movies which raise our expectations too high. No tossing caps in the air because it will likely hit someone else in the face, no cheers and applause, everyone is just eager to get out of here.

My god, it's hot.

After all the pictures, we all got into our cars and left to pack, get ready, deciding to meet at the airport. We drove past the school right opposite to ours. Our rivals, if you will. I don't get it, but if you ask the soccer or football team, they'll tell you.

"Oh, look at that. They all just had their graduation ceremony too," my mom laughed.

My dad pulled over and rolled down his window. "Hey boys," he nodded. He used to be a coach for their soccer team up until last year.

"Coach Miller," they all sang in sync. There was a huge group standing right there. I leaned forward, my elbows resting on the front seats while I looked. "Hey Bella," they all sang.

My dad grabbed my head, trying to push me in the backseat. I threw his hand off and looked. "Hi boys," I grinned. I think I also don't get the rivalry because I've been there watching them practice and seen how nice they all are. All except one.

Noah Hudson.

What a prick he was every time I went there. I suppose he took the rivalry a little seriously and I was from the enemy's den. It was hell being there for the games. The Wolves VS The Lions. Yes, those are our cliche mascots. Ours, a wolf, theirs, a lion.

When I scanned the line, I saw him there, looking around. He didn't seem as pissy today while he sipped a Capri sun.

"I want a Capri sun," I mumbled.

"Go get one, Bella," my dad rolled his eyes.

"Okay," I shrugged, beginning to climb out only for him to lock the doors.

"Which one of you boys can get us a Capri sun?" my dad huffed.

I bit back a laugh while Jamie jogged over with a Capri sun for me. "M'lady," he grinned.

"Thanks, Jamie," I smiled, leaning back in my seat and rolling down my window.

"You healin' okay, Noah? I heard about the ankle," my dad said. I frowned and looked at his ankle. Seems fine to me.

"The fracture healed just fine, coach. Thanks," he nodded.

"Enjoy the day, boys."

"Bye, coach! Bye, Bella!" they all sang. "Bye,"

I laughed as my dad drove off. "The eyes they have for my daughter," dad mumbled.

"They're good boys, Harry," my mom chuckled. We pulled up to our house moments later and we all climbed out. I stepped out, my graduation dress in my hand with the cap. "You gonna take a nap, honey?" my mom asked.

"Yeah, I'll shower first though, then I have to pack," I mumbled while my dad grabbed my head, shaking it lightly.

"You're growing up, doll," he sighed.

"I'm coming right back home, dad," I chuckled as we stepped in. "Goodnight!" I sang, going up to my room.

"Goodnight," they replied in sync. I went and grabbed a pair of pajamas and hit the shower first. I came back out and lay in bed for a while, taking a nap for an hour or so before I woke up on my own and then lay in bed some more, confirming the plan and where we were meeting with Ava and Charlotte.

I've been friends with them since middle school. Both of them. They are the bestest friends I could ask for, I wouldn't trade them for the world.

I forced myself out of bed and grabbed my suitcase. I flung it onto the bed and tossed it open. I threw in dresses, t-shirts, tank tops, shorts, jeans, some more dresses. I like sundresses, I wear them often. Then I packed my makeup, my jewelry, and then my shoes, bathing suits, everything that you take on vacation basically. By the time I was done, dinner was ready so I went downstairs and joined my parents.

"Tacos," I sang, sitting beside my dad on the barstool.

"I'll smash your face in the tacos if you don't finish," my mom said, smiling as she slid the plate to me.

"Of course, I'll finish them mom," I scoffed.

"Yeah, of course, Kelly, look at her," my dad snorted.

"Are you calling me fat, dad?"

"Not at all honey, in fact, you look like a damn twig."

"It's the metabolism in her genes, you're welcome honey," mom winked. We all ate and talked throughout dinner, laughing, me telling my parents all about the trip, them wishing me luck and then goodnight.

"I'll see you at midnight, dad," I sang while going upstairs to my room.

"Kelly, you drive her. I don't feel like waking up," my dad said, looking at me.

"You'll drive her Harry." There was no discussion after that.

I went up, brushed my teeth, and washed my face before climbing into bed. I fell asleep pretty quickly since I was still fairly tired from the day and then woke up when my alarm rang at 11:45. I groaned but got up because I was excited as hell.

We're going to Vegas. I can't believe it. This trip is finally happening.

I went and brushed my teeth, washed my face, changed and put my toiletries in the bag before taking my suitcase outside with my backpack which held my laptop, it's charger, my phone charger, airpods, gum, a hoodie, basically everything you need on standby at the airport. I put my phone in my pocket before slipping my shoes on.

I sighed, turning the lights off before stepping out, my dad coming out the same time as me. "Hey," I grinned.

"Don't talk, it's too early," he mumbled going downstairs.

"Um- dad?" He clicked his tongue, realizing before coming back upstairs and grabbing my suitcase. "Thank you," I sang as we climbed into the car.

"Fly safe, baby," he said, kissing my forehead at the entrance to the airport.

"Bye, Mr. Miller!" Ava and Charlotte sang.

"Bye, girls," he smiled before turning to me, "Whatever you do, just don't do drugs, promise me," he held his pinky out.

"Jesus Christ, dad. I will not do drugs, I promise," I laughed, giving him a pinky promise before hugging him bye and then heading inside with my friends.

"I can't believe we're going to Vegas!" Charlotte squealed.

"We're going but it's still 12:30 in the morning, all right? Don't be so loud," Ava said, heading to the bags check-in. We checked in our suitcases then headed for security.
