《butterfly; tsukishima kei》15

for the first time in a while, the sky was painted in a tinted shell of immense blue. a cloudless baby blue sky spread like a field of flowers. wide, open, complete with emptiness, just like my life all summed up.

the train station had a few passengers waiting today. some are glued to their phones while the others stared, lost in their own thoughts. and my eyes never left the other side, switching to one person to another. hoping to see that familiar image of him standing there with his headphones on.

i wanted to wave at him again.

unluckily this time, he wasn't there. that's fine, maybe once i get in miyagi i'll be able to see him. even if it's an accident once again, even if it happens in the flower shop, i'll be fine. but my thoughts are all interrupted when a female voice was heard in the system.

i failed to hear another one coming beside me.

"visiting miyagi again, i see." it was spoken in a lazy tone, somehow mocking and teasing me.

i scoffed, "yeah and you're here in tokyo again."

"you're complaining?" he rose a brow at me with a smirk forming on his face as he placed his headphones down.

"no." i chuckled, glancing at his golden-brown eyes that i always drown into, "there's no reason to."

"so, you're coming back?" i asked, shifting my weight on my other foot. he's no longer on the other side and instead, right here with me. well that's a level up, huh.

"yeah, i'm done visiting." he replied, shoving his hands back in his pocket.

i find him attractive in every single thing he do. the way he would straighten his posture, push his glasses up, pinch the bridge of his nose and bringing his wrist up to check on the time on his watch. it was weird how these simple things send butterflies in my stomach and makes my heart beat fast.

"tokyo? or that girl?" i blurted out and i saw how he glanced at me after that. he quickly looked away and a small smile form on his face, somehow it was the first genuine one i've seen on him.

"the one right beside me."

we got off in miyagi after being in a train ride for two hours. it was painful to get stuck in a crowd even inside the train, i hate the people's loud chatter blasting through my ears. tsukishima seems to be at peace with his headphones and i envy him for that.

i forgot to bring my earphones, i broke one last time.

as we walked the path leading towards the flower shop, the first place that i met him. however, it seems like to him, it wasn't the first place. i kept my hands on my back, silent and didn't mind to utter a word since his headphones are still on.

i sighed and tugged on his sleeve, catching his attention as he turned towards me, raising a brow. he let the headphones hang around his neck as he spoke, "what?"

"what are you listening to?"

"music."

"let me hear."

he let out a sigh and took off his headphones, giving it to me as he played the music. it was a gentle and calm song with a beat hyping up at the background, it was the kind of music that fits his vibes. the genre was something that the generation wouldn't listen to today and i find it interesting how he likes it.

"it's nice." i smiled and he hummed as a reply.

he didn't bother me after that and let me have the headphones for the rest of the walk. the time that i took it off is when we were already in front of the flower shop, the familiar glass door greeting me. remembering the scene from the first day made me blush at the fact that the person back then is now here with me.

it was strange, how everything is flowing too nice, too calm and right. too perfect that i feel like i'll be facing a big storm soon.

i entered the shop and he followed behind me. i greeted the woman on the counter with a smile, averting my eyes back towards the flowers in front of me. i crouched down, like how i was from that day. i examined the pink petals, how it makes contact with my finger.

it was soft and elegant, gentle and calm. it was just like her, the touch reminds me of the memories in the past.

"you're buying one?" tsukishima asked on the other side, crouching down to examine the flowers too.

"yeah, why else would i come here?"

he never left his eyes on the red rose that danced when the wind from outside entered, "just thought that you'll be wondering again."

my eyebrows furrowed, but he never continued after that. i sighed and averted my attention back on the flower and the petal below my finger, "it's my mother's death anniversary." i mumbled.

his eyes widened and he was a bit startled, but his face quickly calmed and went serious after, "i'm sorry." he mumbled and the sound of the bell ringing made me smile.

just like that day.

our fingertips barely touching again, only the petals felt our touch. the door shut closed, footsteps entered and a single insect visited once again. those tiny wings flapping its way towards us, coming in between our fingertips. it layed there, letting the mixture of its colors blend in with the flowers.

and i'm clueless if it's trying to make a wall between us or it's trying to protect us from each other.

"if you two ended it," i mumbled and his attention went from the butterfly to me, "why are you still saying that you're visiting her back then?"

one flap of its wings.

"as an excuse."

two flaps of its wings.

"for what?"

three flaps of its wings.

"to see the girl that's been on my mind ever since then."

the butterfly flew away and our fingertips touched each other.
