“Why do you have to be so wonderful?”

I smile as she wraps her arms around me from behind. I shut off the stove and turn, picking her up and setting her on the counter. I put my lips to her neck and she tilts her head slightly, allowing better access.

“Because I have the perfect wife. I know you don’t eat food, but I made you breakfast.”

“I can eat whatever I want. I just never get hungry. But for some odd reason, I'm very hungry right now.”

“Breakfast is right here.”

She pulls back, tilting her head down and peeking up at me.

“Not for food.”

I laugh, pushing back from her a little.

“I know that you really want this child, Lucifer, but we can't do this all day. We need a little break every once in awhile.”

“Is your head ok? You should be used to it by now. Do you need more pain meds?”

“It’s not that, babe. I want you for you. I don't want to find out now, after we tied the knot, that you are using me for reproduction that will lead to freedom.”

Her face reveals guilt. The very second tears appear in her eyes, I regret my words.

“I didn't mean to make you feel like that. I've been trapped in Hell for a long time. I thought I was never capable of love. Then I saw you. I wasn't wasn't trying to get pregnant all those times. Until I realized the truth. That the birth of my child would be the end of my siblings and set me free.”

A tear rolls down her cheek and I use my thumb to wipe it away. She gives me a weak smile.

“My first reaction when I saw you was, ‘Holy crap’. Not in a bad way. My heart sped up and I tuned out everybody, but you. I never felt that way before. I never felt this way before.”

She starts shaking. I pull her against me, stroking her hair.

“If this works, if I get pregnant, there will be a baby invading our privacy. I know this is ridiculous, but I'm afraid to share you. I don’t want to lose our private times together.”

“I understand, Luci. A baby is a life changing experience. If you are hesitant, we can use protection.”

“But that’s the thing. It works so quickly.”

“Plan B pills.”

“You just don't get it, do you?”

“Get what?”

“I think I may already be pregnant.”
