"I have everything covered," Ryusei told me, a map of the school in between us as he sipped his coffee. "Here and here are the exits. I can have my men escort you places when you leave campus, otherwise you should be safe on campus."
"Um I'm not sure if I'm comfortable with that." I injected, making the yakuza leader purse his lips.
"Alright I suppose, but then I won't be able to guarantee your safety you know."
"I know that," I have him a smile, "you've already gone above and beyond, you don't need to do anything else for me."
"If you insist." Ryusei sighed, running a hand through his hair. "At least allow me to give you my number in case of an emergency."
"Sure!" I smiled, then handed my phone over to him. "Also, thank you for lunch, and for warning me."
"My pleasure." He smiled lazily, "speaking of which, we should probably head back now."
"Sounds good." I agreed.
"Last thing about this matter, you should refrain from trying to bring it up with the two." Ryusei advised, "it might cause them to act rashly and move up the plan."
"Oh, alright." I nodded, smiling. "Come on, let's go."
"Right." He nodded, glancing at his men who remained stoic as ever as they followed the two outside of the coffee shop.
Arriving back at school, the two first years walked back to class together as the yakuza men left. Ryusei listened calmly and attentively as I talked about my team and the boys team, about how awesome everyone was and how excited I was for nationals.
"Where are the nationals being held?" Ryusei asked as I mentioned it.

"Tokyo metro gym! It's really exciting!" I squealed, causing him to chuckle as we entered the classroom.
We were right on time, and he gave me a smile before I sat down. The rest of classes went well, I got a good mark on my pop quiz in sixth period.
After classes got out, I headed to practice. When I got to the club room to change, my eyes were immediately drawn to Kimura and Hana.
They noticed.
"Hey, how was your little trip? Have fun?" Kimura smiled.
"You gonna stare at us all day or are you gonna come in? Close the door while you're at it, it's cold." Hana glanced at me.
I couldn't see any malice in Kimura's smile, and Hana was acting as blunt and annoyed as always. Sighing, I apologized and closed the door behind me.
Changing into my practice gear, everyone else showed up and changed as well.
"Let's get a move on! Lap around the school first, then we got the rest of practice!" Azusa grinned, the rest of us cheering as we exited the club room.
Starting our run, I jogged beside Bushida, talking animatedly as we went.
We were near the entrance of campus when the boys came into view. They were also running around the campus, but it looked like they were just getting started.
Keeping my head down, Bushida and I ran past them. I could feel their eyes lingering on me, but I ignored it as we reentered the campus.
Practice started as soon as everyone got back and had a drink of water. We began with serve receive drills, then spike receives from coach.
After practice, I snuck into the boys' club room, putting a note in a particular boy's cubby, I made my way to the main school building and waited outside the front door.

Several minutes later, I saw a figure approaching from the distance. He paused as he saw me, but then continued until he was in front of me. "So it was you who asked me to come."
"Yes.." I twiddled my thumbs as I looked anywhere but him.
"So what is this about?" He asked. Taking a deep breath, I locked eyes with him.
"Um... I like you, a-and I'm not sure what your feelings are so c-can you please tell me before I get my hopes up?" I asked, glancing away as I bit my lip.
Suddenly, his hand was on my cheek, causing me to look at him. "I like you too." Ushiwaka murmured, looking me straight in the eye. "And I know I'm not exactly good with affection and expressing myself, but I will try for you." He gave me a slight smile, making me tear up slightly.
"That's all I can ask." I gave him a closed eye grin before quickly pecking his cheek and running away. "S-See you tomorrow!"

Slamming my dorm room door, I was panting hard as Tendou gave me a concerned look. "Was somebody chasing you or something?" He demanded, and I shook my head.
"I was running away from myself, more like." I panted, laughing slightly. The redhead looked even more confused, but shrugged it off.
"Sounds like quite the night, then. Where'd you go last night, anyway?"
"Uhhhh, the hang out."
"Seriously?! That was the first place I thought of but I thought it was too obvious so I didn't check there!" Tendou cried, covering his face with his hands, "I'm so stuuuupid!"
"It's alright, I'm okay now." I reassured him, smiling as I took his hands off his face. His eyes narrowed. "There is something we should talk about though."
"... Alright.." He nodded slowly, so we sat down on his bed. "What's up?"
"I don't want to lead you on," I explained, "I decided that I'd rather keep you as a best friend, because you've brought nothing but happiness to me since we met. I hope you can understand where I'm coming from."
"At least I'm not brother zoned." The redhead grumbled flopping onto his back. "That's cool with me, bestie."
"Thank you for understanding." I smiled happily, "I'll treat you to ice cream sometime."
"I'll cash in on that when we win the first round of nationals. And don't you already owe us ice cream?"
"Oh, right." I laughed. "Guess I owe you double."
"Bet." He smirked, before it softened into a frown as he sat up. "So, you go for Wakkun?"
"Yeah, he said he liked me too." I smiled softly, twiddling my thumbs as I thought about it.
"Ah, so that's why he left so fast." Tendou chuckled, smiling slightly. "Welp, you two have my full support~"
"Thanks Tendou." I kissed his cheek, "you're the best."
"I know~ you're lucky to have me~" He smirked, "Come on, we should finish the season." My eyes widened with his words.
"Oh my god! I forgot we haven't finished the show yet! Where's the computer?!"
So that's how my love life crisis ended, best friend zoning my best friend, and making Ushiwaka someone much more important to me than he had already been.
However, I couldn't have expected what happened soon after that. It all started at Nationals...

Humanity's End
Given a year to prepare by the mysterious ‘system’ for contact with the wider galaxy, humanity must work to ensure the Earth’s defense is ready to meet any challenge. Sadly, most of the world seems dedicated to tearing itself apart as the year-end deadline gets closer. The west is in barely contained Chaos, while the east descends into internal conflict and war. The Pillar Forts, one of the few successful projects of the United Nations headed by the United States, stand ready to defend humanity against any invasion that may come through the strange Connection Pillars that appeared on each continent. Massive steel and stone walls that surround the Connection Pillars. They are filled with deadly men and women trained in all manner of warfare, each trained in the newly acquired System with skills and magical abilities that they put to deadly purpose. Beside these brave warriors, tanks, helicopters, artillery and more stand ready to defend humanity at each of these powerful installations. But, can they overcome the disparity in levels and experience between themselves and the forces that threaten them and the rest of humanity? Main Characters Jessica Brown- A young African American girl. Her 18th birthday in Detroit was the same day the systems message appeared. She discovered she was Level 7, much higher than most of the rest of the world. Why she is blessed, or cursed, with the power she doesn’t know. But what she does know is that she rather likes the feeling that comes with manipulating magic. The week after her birthday, government workers started testing every person in the US in a massive census effort of skills and abilities. Jessica Brown found herself conscripted into the US Magical Corp, a new branch of the US Military, and shipped off to a Pillar Fort. Somewhere hot and muggy in her ancestors’ home of Africa. As she grows stronger, she finds she has some connection to the pillars. While everyone else sees beauty or danger when they look at the pillars, after connection is made all Jessica can see is a Tree. A tree the size of the entire universe. Isaka Smith - is a third generation American and farmer who just wants to be left alone. But she is dragged into the situation by events beyond her control. When people in her small town had to deal with rioters and looters after the system announcement, she rallied them to defend themselves, earning her a trait that the government found extraordinarily useful. After a visit to a local reservation, she finds herself conscripted to lead one of the many small support towns erected around the great pillar forts. Not near her old home, but in far-flung Africa. John McIntire, the “Fighting Bull” -The commander of the African Fort, but because of circumstances beyond his ability to contend with shortly after taking command after being re-activated from retirement, he finds communication with his chain of command increasingly difficult. The US government, hell, even the United Nations, seems to have fallen into complete and utter chaos. The African Union is embroiled in a bitter civil war just outside his door, and supposedly, most of the world governments are in similar situations. Meanwhile, John must do his best to be ready to facilitate diplomacy, or to match the hostile argument of whatever force might come through the pillar of light when the year timer finishes counting down. Can our heros defend Earth from outside threats, while it tares itself apart? Or will they need to rebuild from the ground up? DEDICATION: This story is dedicated to my father who passed away recently. Jim Holloway, you’ll be missed you old silverback gorilla. Love you dad. Always have, always will.

Rise of a Scarlet Devil (Regular+Draft Version)
A young girl slain during a war was brought back to life by some unknown force millennia later. She could only remember a vague face within her memories, uncertain as to who it was but there was one thing she did know. She needed to kill that person. But she was too weak, she needed to hide, to grow. She needed to flee from the battlefield her enemy reigns over. And to do so, she needed to run eastward, towards Helios, a safe haven for those who have lost their homes in the war. And where she would grow to become the strongest Hunter under her own strength. What was it that brought her back? Only time will tell. #Author's Note The novel is organized like this:Regular Chapters (Act, Title, Part (ranging from 1 to 9))Draft Chapter DisclaimerDraft Chapters (Entry Number, Perspective, Title, Part (ranging from i to ii)) Regular chapters are edited chapters that reflect the story aspect more while Draft chapters reflect plot progression more. An occasional interactive chapter will appear in the drafts but nowhere in the regular chapters. Expect changes when reading between Regular and Draft chapters as some events in the story may change in length or entirely removed/changed. Only read the draft version if you want a future view and/or opinion on the story and design elements. The main character is a human from a fantasy world reincarnated as a devil. The story possesses Reincarnators, Transmigrators, and Summoned Persons. though mainly focusing on Magic and other abilities such as Aura and Skills. Wizards (those who prepare arcane spells) and Mages (those who use elemental magic) are separate but seen as the same by common inhabitants of the world but clearly defined as different by more influential persons and by the circles themselves. The main character WILL not be a Mage or Wizard but will incorporate mana into her attacks to aid her as does any high-rank combatants. The system in the novel quantifies a person's abilities and keeps record of them but does not define natural ability, occasionally granting special abilities as skills to a person once prerequisites are met. There is no leveling system and no occupational systems in the novel featuring only a stat based and skill based system. Also, this novel is my first and will most likely be trash.
