《Throwin' It Back》14.) Born to Handjive

"Hi honey, how was your walk?" My mother asks as I walk in the front door of the house. She was sitting on the couch watching I Love Lucy while dad sat in the chair beside the couch reading the newspaper.

"Good. Delilah pretty much ripped my arm off my body, though." Mom shakes her head and chuckles, and I take Delilah's chain off before walking back to my bedroom.

When I open my door, my eyes catch sight of a lavender silk dress with tints of pink through it, and a lavender flower hair clip. I walk over and pick up the dress, and a card falls to the floor. I pick it up, and it reads "Look to your left."

I turn my head, and there stands Axel with a bouquet of red roses. He smiles at me and walks closer.

"Will you go to the formal with me?" He asks, and a smile grows on my face as I nod my head eagerly and jump into his arms. I wrap my arms around his neck, and he wraps his around my waist.

"I hope you like the dress. I had Pam help me pick it out." I pulled my head away from his shoulder and looked into his beautiful brown eyes.

"I love it. Thank you so much." I say, and he crashes his lips into mine. He kisses me passionately, yet slowly. This kind of kiss makes my head spin, and it only made me fall for him more.

"I will pick you up at seven tomorrow." I nod, and he kisses me once more before walking out of my house.

The next morning was a complete rush. As soon as I got up, the girls and I went to the diner to get some breakfast and discussed pre formal things, like where we were getting pictures and who was riding with who.

Pam volunteered to drive Axel and I so we didn't have to ride his motorcycle, and I was more than grateful. Could you imagine me on a motorcycle with being in a dress?

Yeah, how about no.

After we finished breakfast, we all went to Pam's house to do our hair and nails. The guys were at Danny's house, so Axel wasn't there. Bonnie painted my nails pink, to match the tints of pink in my dress.

Pam did my hair. She curled the ends, and clipped back the right side with the lavender flower Axel got to go with my dress. Bev does my make up. She does black winged eyeliner with lavender eye shadow on my eyes, and light pink lipstick on my lips. She applies a little blush and mascara.

I walk over to my bag and slip on my white heels. When I turn around, all three of the girls jaws drop to the floor.

"What?" I ask, feeling slightly uncomfortable.

"You look amazing, Michelle. Axel is gonna love you." A small smile grows on my lips, and I sit on the bed as I wait for the other girls to get ready.

Pam had on a white dress with black heels, Bev had on a black and red dress, and Bonnie had a sky blue dress. All three of them looked absolutely beautiful. Honestly, I loved the dresses from the fifties. They were beautiful.

"Alright, we better get going. Our idiots are impatient monkeys." The four of us laugh as we grab our clutch bags and walk out to Pam's car. We drive over to Danny's house, which was huge, and she parks the car on the street.

We all hop out and walk into the mansion. Danny is the first one to walk out, and when he sees Pam, his jaw drops to the floor.

"Pamela..." He breathes out, his eyes wide, "you look absolutely beautiful."

Pam's face tinges pink, and she walks up and plants a small kiss on his lips. When they pull away, they are both smiling.

"You don't look to bad yourself, baby." He wraps his arms around her waist, and they stand beside us as Rocco and Rickie walk out.

Cue the awkwardness.

Rocco and Bev still weren't talking. Bev was so mad at him, but I could tell she was more hurt than mad. She honestly likes him, and I think Rocco likes her too. They just won't admit it.

Rickie walks over to Bonnie and kisses her hand. She smiles at him, before wrapping her arms around his neck and pulling him into a hug. They were adorable. Rickie actually did ask her out, which meant they were no longer shy around each other.

"Axel should be out. He's fixing his tie." I nod, and they all talk to each other, well, except for Rocco and Bev.

Rocco walks over to her and wraps an arm around her waist, pulling her to his side. I watch as he leans down and whispers, "I'm sorry", in her ear before gently kissing her cheek. She ignored him, but I could see her eyes becoming glassy with tears. She really did love him.

After a couple of minutes, Axel finally walked out. And let me tell you.

That boy could rock a tux.

He walked up to me with his signature smirk, and the whole room went quiet. He wrapped an arm around my waist, his smirk growing bigger.

"You look good." I smile at him, even though I was kind of disappointed. I think Pam was mad too. She looked like she wanted to rip his head off.

I didn't rely on compliments, but, I mean, no one has ever called me beautiful. I wanted to know what it felt like at least once.

"Well, we should get going." Pam says, leading us out the door.

Bonnie, Rickie, Rocco, and Beverly go in one car, while Danny, Pamela, Axel, and I go in another. When we get to the dance, the lights from the gym light up the outside, and music blares from inside.

We all hop out and begin our walk towards the school. Pam stood beside me, with Danny beside her. Axel had his arm wrapped around my waist.

We were about to walk through the front doors of the school when Stephanie Vitalli jumped in front of us. She had on a red dress that showed her cleavage a little too much, paired with black pumps.

"Hey, Axel. I didn't know you came to dances." She smiled at him, purposely pushing her chest in his face. He smirked down at her.

"I do. You look beautiful, Steph."

Ouch.

Pam glared at him, while I pulled away from him and swallowed the lump in my throat.

"I-I'm gonna use the powder room." I quickly walk into the school and go straight to the bathroom. I take a deep breath and close my eyes. Pam walks in and shoots me a sad smile.

"Sorry about that, Michelle. My brother is an oblivious idiot sometimes." I shake my head and give her a sad smile.

"It's okay. I get it." She grabs my hand and we walk out of the bathroom.

Danny intertwines his hand with hers, and I follow them into the gym. When we walked in, Axel was standing by the entrance. He grabbed my hand and pulled me out to the dance floor.

The first song to come on was handjive. I could do this dance because every one knows the handjive. Axel stood beside me and do it with me, and pretty soon the whole gym joined.

When that song ended, a slow song came on, and Axel pulled me to him. He wrapped his arms around my waist, and I wrapped mine around his neck. We slow danced to the song, my head resting on his chest and his head resting on the top of my head as we moved with the rhythm.

When the song ends, he lifts my chin up and stares into my eyes before planting a slow, soft kiss on my lips.

When we pull away, he smiles at me. I would have smiled back, but there was a pit in my stomach that told me everything was about to end, and that ending wouldn't be good.

I walked over to get a cup of punch, and Pam stood beside me as we watched the dance floor.

Another slow song came on, and I was about to walk out to Axel, until I saw he already started dancing with Stephanie. The whole time he danced with her, he was smiling at her. She rested her head on his chest, and he kissed her forehead.

Pam looked over at me, and I shook my head before running out of the school and all the way to my house.

It's always too good to be true.
